Im mere minutes away, so ive had food from this place a bunch of times...and I'm shocked to see 5 stars given out on this place. It's a straight Greek joint that piles on free old bread and inedible soups to your order to make you feel like you got some great value....breakfast is decent, but hardly cheap as some suggest(10dollar for an omelette with toast), but it's good and comes with hash browns. As far as dinner or lunch, i suggest you give it a pass. The food is underseasoned and just not very good even if the portions are somewhat generous. Some of the people who have spent decades in the burbs obviously can't even tell what is half decent fare anymore. Tip: If you are like me and like your Hashbrowns crispy, then order them EXTRA crispy when ordering. Usually its mushy and without bite at all. The omelettes are huge....definitely splitable... As I am new to the area, I visit many local businesses. Tonight I tried The Continental Restaurant. I ordered a Swiss cheese hamburger. My server, who was absolutely not at fault, asked me how I would like it cooked. I ordered medium. The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd burgers all came out well done. The "manager on duty" decided to argue with me, and told me that the cook said that they were all cooked medium. She even brought out 2 of the 3 burgers that I had sent back "as proof that they had pink in them." I went there for a burger and a dinner on the patio, not to argue with the MOD. Well, in my opinion, the salad was fine. Crisp lettuce, cucumber and tomato, but swimming in water. What can I say about the meatloaf? Hearty portion, but yeech, again in my opinion. I filled up on the rolls which were good. My husband didn't care for his pasta, the spaghetti sauce of which was watery with a strange taste. We'll give this restaurant one more try - for breakfast. My family has been going there for years. They have always been great over the years. However, in the past few years, since they have renovated/expanded, it hasn't been the same. They raised prices after the first reno, which is fine. Then when they expanded into the space next door they raised prices again. We were just there the other day for lunch and for the first time ever they charged an additional $2 for soup and fries with my sandwich. That's new!! Did they raise prices again???? You would always get fries and soup with your meal. Two weeks before that we stopped by mid week for lunch at about 3pm and just after we were seated our waitress said that she had a "mandatory" staff meeting to attend and just left us. She said that she would stop by again to check up on us, but never did. We just sat there with a few other diners completely unattended. As you looked around all you could see is a few bus boys and the cooks, that was it. The entire staff was next door in their new banquet room. That was very inappropriate and I realize that wasn't our waitresses fault, but you just don't leave customers in a restaurant completely unattended. The food I must admit, has been consistently good over the years. I like almost everything on their menu. Very tasty and good size portions. They also offer a great selection of homemade soups every day. They are delicious!! I'm not sure how often we'll keep going there since they are now starting to get a bit pricey....... read more

Typical diner place. I went for lunch with my fiancee. He ordered the corned beef hash skillet with pancakes. I must say the portion is huge! He only ate about 1/3 of it and that skillet was heavy. The hash browns were nice and crispy. Pancakes were average. I got the grilled cheese with bacon and a bowl of cream of spinach soup. The soup was lumpy and kind of bland. This is the perfect example of who to run a restaurant. I've been coming here since I was a child and to this day, I have not had a bad experience. Sure, there's been a small amount of times where I had an issue, but it was taken care of immediately. The food is absolutely amazing and the service is top notch. 10 of us ate here this past Sunday night. Each one of our dinners were fantastic and service was exceptional. We go out every Sunday night and we are thinking about making The Continental our regular stop. This place is a very good family restaurant. They have a huge variety of options with several soups every day and yummy dinner specials. The beef stew, beef stroganoff and goulash are wonderful. We have breakfast here pretty much every weekend and their omelets are great as well. The prices are decent (not cheap mind you, but decent) for the most part but a few items like the skirt steak are quite high (higher than most other family restaurants) and I refuse to order at that price, but there are plenty of items to choose from so I don't feel limited. This restaurant reminds me of my childhood. It has the warmest atmosphere with old school hospitality you rarely see these days. Pete, the owner, is the nicest, friendliest guy. "Family-style dining" doesn't typically imply "Fantastic" and this place isn't, but I've found it to be a step above other restaurants of its type. It's big, clean, has a very pleasant decor, comfortable booths and a menu with nearly everything. They are also one of few places that remain that give you a truly top-notch bread basket--probably supplied by NY Bagel & Bialy--and always have a good selection of soups. I've been here a few times in the past and have never been disappointed, but the Francheezie I had just the other day wasn't anything special and should've come on a French Onion Roll rather than a drab (no poppyseeds even) hot dog bun. Also, Sprite my friend ordered was flat. So I won't go above and beyond in my praise, but still consider Continental to be well-worth a visit if you're looking for somewhere convenient and comfortable to eat. read more

My first visit here and very happy with the great reviews. It's very nice and clean inside serving a variety of foods. We came around 11am so we ordered breakfast and lunch entrees. Each of our lunch entrees came with a bowl of soup. Chicken noodle and minestrone soup both homemade and plentiful. We also got a nice selection of breads and crackers. And our breakfast entrees were also excellent, we ordered eggs Benedict and vegetarian omelet which included pancakes. We were very satisfied with our meals. Bad service. My family and I have been going here for years due to friendly service and decent food, but that has changed. The service has taken a turn for the worst. In a recent visit with my family, we waited about an hour for pure food, several orders were messed up and order corrections were still bout correct. The waitress had an attitude and was demanding. We could see where she got our from as the hostess/ manager was the same. There were never apologies or discount offers to our bill. The restaurant was contacted twice to try and address the situation with no response. There are plenty of similar restaurants in the area -I suggest finding another. read more

This is a small cute old fashioned dinner in a strip mall. Looked a bit weathered from the outside but once you went in it seemed much nicer. The waitstaff was friendly and the matzo ball soup was pretty good (not the best, but ok). I also ordered a mushroom and cheddar cheese omelette. The mushrooms seemed abundant throughout but the cheese was only on top and minimal for the 3 or 4 eggs that were used to make it. The hash browns were sort of tasteless. Could have used some salt. I love this place. Their food is great, and the service is too. Everyone is always so friendly and helpful. The last time I went, I asked for a banana split. The waitress came back and told me their bananas were not at their best today and offered to whip me up something else, which was delicious. Any other restaurant would have went ahead and just served the bananas. But this waitress cared, and that's one of the most important things about restaurants. I really love it here. It's a nice family restaurant and reminds me of when my family and I used to go out and eat at these kinds of restaurants when I was young. It's a wonderful nostalgia. I am really surprised by the bad reviews here. My family and I have been going here since it for years. The staff is always extremely friendly and not only are the food portions huge they are tasty. If you aren't happy with a dish they are always willing to let you order something else. I have never left without a doggy bag. Pete, the owner, greets his guests personally, with many of them being regulars. One time we were there and he pointed out an elderly man who he says eats there everyday. The matzoh ball soup is fabulous as well as the other soup choices. I'm a kind picky eater and they always allow substitutions, with a smile no less. The service was okay, however the food was terrible for what you pay. The bread they brought prior to the meal was hard and cold like it had been on a shelf for a couple months. The soup tasted like it was microwaved from a can and our actual meal was hardly worth the price we paid. I love this diner! If you go there a few times, its like the Cheers Theme Song - "i like to go where everyone knows your name".. so i feel like when I'm eating there, its like home away from home. I've tried many of the meals, my faves which I recommend are - the Athenian chicken and the Athenian Skirt Steak (very tender), the Lamb chops, The Short Ribs (melt in your mouth tender); the chicken noodle soup (YUMMY!), the fried chicken and the broasted chicken. You will love these as much as I did! My favorite potatos are the Greek potatos that come with the Athenian dishes, and the mashed potatos. Desert is a HUGE piece of carrot cake, which you can actually save for later and cut into 3 portions because its so huge! Thats my fave dessert! You should see how so many people also order to go, and the #1 item is the chicken noodle soup - coz its delicious! The best salad dressing is the home made ranch! it is the best! This restaurant is very family friendly. They give you a box of crayons and markers and paper for drawing while you wait at table plus there are also books that you can read at tables. We have had the same waiter the couple of times we have been and he's been very good. Coffee comes right away, yay! I have always gotten the omelette because it is so delicious! It comes with hash browns and pancakes. The pancakes are good too. The kid meals are very reasonable. Around $5 to 6. The whole menu is reasonable and you get a decent amount of food. Stopped here to eat an early dinner. Service was excellent and the food was big portions. The food looked good, but once I started eating I looked down half through and it didn't looked very cooked like the top layer I could see when I started eating. About 3 hours later I started feeling sick to my stomach. Went to bed and woke up sick to my stomach. It didn't look super busy, so I don't know if the cooks were in a hurry and threw the skillet ingredients on the grill to cook the bottom and flipped it into the dish so the more cooked side was up, or what. The owner, Pete, is super nice and accommodating. My only complaint, which is really lame, is the fries. Continental Restaurant deserves way more than 5 stars. The food is plentiful at a good price, the staff friendly, and the restaurant always clean. I've been eating here for over 12 years and have never had anything shy of a great meal. The tables are cleaned at lightning speed and the wait staff is there as a wait staff, not a cleaning staff. Tables are "bussed" by a buss staff allowing the wait staff to give you the attention. Great for a casual date or a large party (35-50+) in the party room. Plus very kid friendly. The true gem here is the owner, Pete, and his family. You get the personal touch of a true family restaurant that all but a few places have lost site of. read more

This restaurant used to be ok. Now, it is awful. The service is a joke. The cooks can't cook at all. We waited 20 minutes for our food with only 2 other tables in the place. The waitresses are rude & can't seem to get anything correct. The food was old & the veggies had brown spots. The burger was completely raw. Returned it & it took another 20 minutes to get there only to taste like crap! The bill was over $75 for garbage. 3 people out of our 5 party got sick from the food and had stomach upset for days. Stay away from this place. Not a great location, service is nasty, food is disgusting & you will end up ill!!! read more
