One of the worst places I have been. My food was still Ok but all the rest complained about the food not being cooked. They have good meal plans (good combos) but it wasnt cooked properly. We used to love this family run diner, but over the past year it has steadily declined. It is such as shame because there aren't any other decent diners in the area. We had witnessed terrible service a handful of times, yet this afternoon I decided to give it one more shot since it had been a while that I had dined here. I was really hoping for a good experience, but unfortunately it was my worst yet. My friend and I came in with my two-year-old twins. We stood at the entrance for a good five minutes while the hostess was on the phone. There was a multitude of staff who were in the back and saw us standing there, including the owner, and nobody bothered to get up to seat us. After we were sat, we were not greeted by anybody for twenty minutes - we didn't even have water or coffee. I finally asked a passing waitress if we had someone to wait on us and she said she would go find her. Our waitress got up from the bar where she was eating and came to take our order (EATING WHILE WORKING A SHIFT IN THE RESTAURANT BUSINESS IS A HEALTH CODE VIOLATION). I had coffee, and it was never refilled. After our food arrived, she never came to check on us. I took over an adjacent table to cut up my kids' food because we didn't have a ton of room on our table and I didn't want my hungry kids to try to reach for the hot food. There were only six tables in the entire restaurant, yet the hostess still came over and told me to move our stuff. I would like to see her try to take care of two hungry two-year-olds who had to wait way too long for their food! Our server dropped the check and I shortly thereafter remembered that the kid's meal came with ice cream. Since our server was nowhere to be found, I asked someone else about it. Our server came over and took the order. I politely asked her if she would please bring it out quickly because my kids were not going to tolerate sitting much longer. She said "I will bring it out when I decide to bring it" in a very rude tone. She went into the back and came out with a bread basket for a table of grown men - no ice cream. I went to the front and complained to a woman who I believe is a member of the family who owns the restaurant. She was apologetic and immediately got us the ice cream. When I went to pay, I told her that this was not the first time we were ill treated. She asked if it was the same woman. I indicated that one time it was and another few times is was by another member of her waitstaff. It was very obvious that I was not the only person who complained about this woman. I also told her that we would not be coming back. Her response was that no matter how much they talk to these people, they still won't listen and there was nothing she could do. She then asked me to please come back and to just ask for another person's station next time. She didn't comp anything off of our bill or offer a coupon for our next visit. Nothing was done to make it right. The owner was standing right there during this conversation and didn't say a word to me. On another note, the place is dingy. It is obvious that the waitstaff and the owners to not care about their customers. If you want to be waited on by rude waitstaff and wait a long time for food, then this place is for you! read more

My wife likes this continental more than I do. I prefer the Buffalo. Typical NW burbs diner stuff. Totally Greek run. I get the pigs in a blanket with turkey sausage. I find the pancakes to be a little dry for my tastes, but I also don't like drowning things in syrup. I'm trying to watch my figure, what can I say? Its a nice spot for a weekend morning breakfast, but there is always some crazy guy sitting up by the tv who only wants to watch what he wants to watch. Not really fair to everyone else in the joint. Pete,the owner, is AMAZING. We had the luncheon after our Grandmother's funeral here. (This was her favorite restaurant). We had our own private room. We had 2 vegetarians in the group (I was one of them). Pete went out of the way to make us veggie soup. Then he made pasta for my niece and made me a HUGE plate of veggies. The rest of the food was served buffet style. They also had a large sweet table at end. We had open bar. Which he capped our price at $150. The cost per person for food was $22. (We had 40 people) We had 2 servers who did a great job getting drinks and clearing tables. At the end when we went to pay, we went to ask about tips, Pete actually made us LOWER the tip amount we wanted to give. What owner does that? He said 10% was plenty. He did not rush anyone out and kept the bar open after we left for the people who were still there. At the end they had to go boxes, so we could take dessert and other food home. It could not have been a more pleasant experience, for such an occasion that was a sad one. We want to go eat there JUST so we can visit Pete again!! read more

I have affection for this place because I used to go here all the time as thhe lovely Miss Jennifer Q lived in the hood. Honestly the food is your typical Greek / American dinner but it's always so good!! Tasty and huge portions! Went there today for breakfast (after boot camp) and had the best oatmeal I have had in the long time!! Huge serving so I split it with my dining companion. We also got an order of eggs with hash browns. The waitress was really cool and split it all up for us. Coffee was good, service was prompt and courteous. I love this place. Well, it was just okay. Wonderful, friendly staff. Decent food. The chicken noodle and matzo soup had no trace of chicken meat or flavor. Both tasted like a chicken may have been walking a block or so from the broth. Dishwater. The veggie omelette was tasty but the cheese was missing. Grecian chicken was mildly flavored and a bit dry, but passable. The kid's pizza tasted pretty good to me, but my son hated it. Wonderful pancakes. Pretty good chicken alfredo. I had come down with a horrible head cold and was in need of some soup to help me feel better. I stopped in and the owner asked me how I was and after hearing my voice realized I was sick. I ordered and paid for a small chicken noodle soup and left with a large chicken noodle soup AND a large vegetable soup. Friend of mine kept raving about the matzoh ball soup at the Continental, so I agreed to go along. I actually wasn't that big a fan of the soup but the other food was pretty good. The first thing that strikes you about this place is the strong Greek-American vibe. This plays out very strongly in the menu - which features a wide variety of American classics with some Greek undertones. Back to this matzoh ball soup - these folks do what I call the "old school" matzoh ball. It's one giant ball of matzoh with a pretty light, fluffy texture in a weak broth. I actually put Tabasco in it to amp up the flavor and save it. Alas, even Louisiana hot sauce couldn't do it. But that's the way my grandparents liked it - and I get that. I'm more used to a thicker, dryer matzoh in smaller pieces maybe in a chicken stock broth. Just a preference thing for me. The Continental has a build your own burger menu - which isn't the most creative thing in the world, but the Greek influence on the place added some interesting toppings like olives and green peppers. The place also offers the full range of A1 sauces, which could be a good or bad thing depending on your opinion. I like A1, so that's a net plus. At any rate, my burger was decent enough. My buddy, on the other hand, got a grilled chicken sandwich and order a side of saganaki. He then put the saganaki on the sandwich and ate that for his meal. Genius! Would have never thought to do that. I'm not in the area often, but I would definitely go again and probably try some of the stuff under their "Classic Greek dishes" - like the Athenian skirt steak. An average old school coffee shop. The deserts looked amazing and the phosphate that I had was really good. It tasted like a sweet cream soda. The waffle with baked apples wasn't great. The apples were straight out of a can and also made the waffle soggy. My wife ordered an omelet that was also pretty average. We drove about 1/2 hour though a lite snow storm to meet my friend, her daughter and boyfriend to get here. I wouldn't go out of my way to go here, but in you are in the area, its OK. read more

I've eaten here a lot. I always enjoy whatever I order. I was there for my niece's bday party in the private banquet room. They set up an awesome ice cream bar with all the toppings you can handle. 2 servers were scooping ice cream and getting drinks. They were both extremely friendly, and the one; I sadly don't remember her name, was just awesome. She and I were joking around with each other. I like that kind of service. Pete, the owner, is always so nice to us when we go. He's always there to greet us with a hand shake, and thank us for coming when we leave. Honestly, the only reason I decided to leave off one star is because there were a couple times I had a server who had a bad attitude. When you go out to eat, you expect a pleasant dining experience. I've been coming to this restaurant off and on for the past 20 years. Each time has been worse than the previous. I ordered the gyros platter and found the meat very dry - like it had been microwaved before serving. The pita bread was hardly cuttable with a knife. The only reason I ate it was because I was hungry. Upon paying, I told this to the cashier, and she took about $3.00 off the bill. This place nickels and dimes you to death. Their add-on of $1.99 for a bowl of lousy soup and a handful of fries is an example of this. $8.49 for the sandwich and fries should be enough. Nobody needs the watery soup. My grandkids had the pancakes. In addition, they ordered a side of bacon. The 4 strips of bacon were billed at $2.99 each. Another rip-off. The Continental is a perennial stop for my lunch crew. The food is reliable but forgettable. Service is generally quick except for one time but I chalk that up to an off day. It's a decent place to get my occasional matzo ball soup fix and I do admit to really liking their pork chop sandwich, served bone-in. It's a real value but be careful when you're eating it, lest you bite into a bone fragment. The turkey burger is best left avoided though. I found it to be tasteless and texturally dry. read more

Always great comfort food here. Love the saganaki and the egg lemon soup. I don't believe there's a bad eye on the menu, which is very large with many choices. Do you think any chicken is really good as is the Athenian skirt steak. The Greek potatoes could be a little bit more well done, but other than that everything is great. Same owner and everything- super nice guy and a wonderful place to grab lunch or dinner with the family. First off, they have great rolls with butter(something I think most restaurants nowadays are really lacking in), but my favorite is the Matzo ball soup. Oh man! It's so good, tastes like homemade soup your grandma makes when you're sick. It just tastes like home. Ever since I was 6 I always get the same dish: the hot turkey, which is insanely good. It's just got the perfect mix of mashed potatoes, turkey, and gravy. Makes my heart melt just thinking about it. And for dessert, don't even get me started.... Seriously, just go there and try it... Nothing is fresh, all the food seems like frozen reheated mush, including the disgusting vegetables. The title used to belong to another old school diner in Ravenswood called Le Sabre. Unfortunately, since that place closed down, I've been searching for Le Sabre pancakes ever since. Provide a giant menu, but not really mastered cooking any of the selections on said menu. Continental broke this mold. It's a sit down casual restaurant that has breakfast lunch and dinner. They have booths and tables the atmosphere is casual. The busser was amazing he got our drinks for us and figured out what soups they had for me. He got cream for ma because they only had flavored creamers on the table then when we were done eating he got our boxes for us to bring our leftovers home. He also offered me tea togo he was nice and polite and observant. Ma liked our waitress because she was personable. The soup that I had was very good and my ma liked her breakfast. We were seated the moment we walked in. Pete, the owner, kept sending the waitress over to our table to make sure that we were still doing okay from beginning to end. You get a basket of warm bread and butter before your meal. I ordered the Greek Salad which was very delicious and the portions are extremely generous! When you leave you pay up at the front and they take care of you right away. The service there is definitely on point!
