The service I received here was awful. The only reasons I'm giving 2 stars is because the food and ambiance outdoors was really good. It took a while for the waiter to take my order and when he did, he just came up to my table without a word. I said Hi and placed my order. He assumed I was finished ordering halfway through and kept confirming as if I didn't actually want to order what I already told him. The food came pretty quick but the receipt was what pissed me off. The itemized receipt was of the correct amount, however the one where I actually had to sign and tip was easily $30 more expensive. I went up to the front desk, and one of the waiters said he'll cancel the wrong receipt. He waited for my response, as if there was a different solution or that I was asking for too much. That's what made me angry the most: their attitude as if I was being unorthodox. Then, they kept repeating over and over that they canceled the wrong receipt while showing me in the system that it was because they combined my order with someone else's. All I wanted was to get the correct receipt, sign and tip, so I could go the fuck home. They refused to apologize and kept defending the fact that they canceled the charge. So I spelled it out for them -- I have paid $0 right? And you want me to pay for this meal, right? So can I get the correct receipt now? They acted ridiculously confused for no reason and FINALLY printed the correct receipt so I could leave. And it's not like they were trying to give the meal for free so I'm still nonplussed at their incompetence. It was beyond frustrating and almost like they expected me to just go along with everything. They finally started saying sorry and that it shouldn't have happened. My assigned waiter still hasn't apologized and was laughing as if he was explaining something so intelligent that I couldn't understand. I wanted to love this place, but any positive feeling from the food/ambiance was quickly replaced by anger towards the way they handled the payment. This restaurant should not exist. A glorified dinner with kids running around and a noise level that is unhealthy. Kitchen doors are open and the sounds of pots, pans and clanking dishes was unexceptionable. The manager was nasty and rude and a slob! The food was at best diner quality and overpriced. Should have eaten at the diner down the street. The service was awful as was the entire experience. Wish I could get a refund. Best part of the place was when we left. read more

Copinette had all the makings of a fantastic restaurant but missed the mark where it matters most...the cuisine. At surface level, this looked like the perfect restaurant; a great ambiance, cool decor, a stellar Yelp rating. I thought I was in for a real treat for sure. However Copinette missed the mark big time. The table all started out with lattes/cappuccinos and half the table complained they theirs were cold. We were a group of 5 so I gave Copinette the benefit of the doubt & wasn't going to let that effect my mindset as we awaited our brunch. I ordered the steak and eggs (medium rare and sunny side is the way I like them btw). Aesthetically, this dish looks Instagram worthy but the taste did not match the looks. It was bland as could be and didn't have any pop to it. Ever heard of salt & pepper? That's literally all you need to get that good crusting on the steak & Copinette failed to achieve that. Now typically I don't let other people's order within my group effect my rating but this time I just had to. My girlfriend was adamant about not having mushrooms in her omelette and said it multiple times to hammer the point home. Guess what was in her omelette? Mushrooms. They replaced it for her but half haphazardly cooked it so much to the point that the cheese in the middle wasn't even melted. Making decent food isn't their strong suit but I guess neither is customer service. I am really disappointed by this joint because it had all the potential to be a 5 star spot but really failed where it counts the most. read more

It's my second time dining here, and the first time was great -- I was with folks who live on the block, who knew what to order. Left to our own devices it was... disappointing. The bacon mac and "cheese" had no cheese -- it was a soup of heavy cream. And barely any bacon. It was nearly inedible. A busy weekend, but the service wasn't great. No one got waters; when I asked, no one refilled it. I ordered a cappuccino, but someone tried to give me an espresso three times. The cappuccino I was finally served was taken off a different diner's table and brought over to me. We were a big group with another whose omelette was dry, a second bacon mac and cheese-turned-cream-soup, and a couple burgers, which was obviously the way to go. You can get a decent sandwich on a weekday, but avoid weekends at all costs. read more

We did take out, steak frites, tuna tartare and French onion soup. The steak was standard with too few fries. The tuna tartare topped by guacamole lacked any seasoning at all, I doctored it up. The food was delicious, but the management was the rudest I have experienced in New York. We ordered appetizers, entrees, and a bottle of wine. Our appetizers arrived and we enjoyed them. Then I noticed the food runner erroneously took our entrees to a large party, back into the restaurant, then to our table. I expressed to my server that it made me uncomfortable to have my food talked over by a large table of other guests. She asked for it to be remade. The dish was quickly returned hot and simply reheated, not remade. I asked to check in with a manager. I didn't think this was a big ask, considering they had touched most tables to chat and ask about their experience already. I could hear managers ask other tables how they were doing. The managers walked by multiple times. One looked at me and ignored me when I waived for his attention, and continued to speak to the tables he chose. I went inside to ask the hostess to speak to with a manager, but staff seemed scared to ask either of the two managers for anything. Both present managers said they were too busy to come to my table, even though they had stopped to chat with other guests - including a casual conversation with the table next to me moments before. The manager was standing in front of my table and whispered to the host that he was too busy. So the host said she had to "take it." No way to treat guests spending time and money at your restaurant. Both managers walked by for the next 30 minutes and refused to stop at my table. Then, I witnessed one of the "busy" managers yell at a busser and throw a towel at him. The same manager also screamed at my server to bring our check, so he could turn the table over. Everyone noticed him screaming each time. He would then look around at guests and smile. I cannot believe that folks are being treated this way. No one survives a pandemic, working in the service industry should be treated so poorly. Everyone deserves human decency. The managers expressed no care for me or their own staff. It was a terrible experience for a $200 dinner. I have really never seen such rude treatment of staff. The patron sitting next to me even shared that she would not return because of the manager's angry outbursts. Being busy is not an excuse for poor, lazy behavior. read more

Returned recently to enjoy the outdoor setting on a cold winter's night. Had a most enjoyable time in their open air, yet covered and heated setting...even had to take off one of my layers. The service was attentive and our meal well paced. Enjoyed the onion soup, beet salad, caesar salad with chicken, the crusted halibut and the crusted lamb chops (chef's crusting is light and flavorful)..all served hot and enjoyed along with sides of garlic mashed and brussels sprouts (I think maybe baby ones cause they were petite). The peach melba for dessert was sweet and good...ice cream in the icy weather! Have not taken advantage of lunch or brunch but it's always crowded for these meals and others I know have enjoyed their brunch so it's on the bucket list! read more

We asked to speak to the manager 3 times and finally told the manager is going to come over to talk to you. We were offered a free dessert, and they were busy. This is a new "fusion" restaurant mixing what I believe is New American, French, and Italian. It has a minimalist internal decor, and any time I see that, I love it because (let's all repeat this out loud): "THE PRICE IS NOT PASSED ON TO THE CONSUMER." You think that giant fake Buddha at "TAO" doesn't affect the price of your $20 two-piece sashimi? Ha! I found the food uneven. The seared foie gras is unbelievable, and so are the desserts (peach melba and chocolate bourbon cake). I didn't think I'd like a peach dessert that didn't have cobbler, but this worked -- and really well, at that. The buratta (sp) was OK, though it's not a dish that has a lot of upside. You have to make an effort to mess up a tomato on cheese. I found my lamb really unremarkable and something you could make for a 1/4 of the cost with a Whole Foods visit (especially post-Amazon acquisition with Prime markdowns) and a mix of good seasonings. I took a bite of my dining partner's pasta, though, and it tasted pretty fantastic, so maybe this is what you should get. But I'm rating what I had, so no points for that. P2P (price to portions) ratio on the meat is off. The gold standard for seared foie gras remains Gotham Bar and Grill, where you get twice the amount for the same price. I ate my lamb in like 5 minutes, too, and actually got some more food at Columbus Circle on the way home. Being a new restaurant, some of the logistics are also a little off. Drinks were brought to the table in a staggered fashion, rather than at the same time, which resulted in an embarrassing screw-up by moi. I mixed a Coke up with the ice tea that I ordered, took a sip of someone else's drink, and felt STUPID!!! What's new in the land of MC3, tho. But this time, it wasn't ALL my fault. read more

I am slightly conflicted- Copinette states it's a French restaurant but the cuisine is more Mediterranean meets American meets farm to table concept. After seeing the restaurant recently open in the neighborhood, we dropped by a random weekday .. Must've been around 3-4PM where one doesn't know if it's dinner yet but it's way past lunch. The kitchen wasn't open but the owner (I presume) asked the chef if he could open the kitchen for us. The staff was watching the World Cup, and Croatia just won, and everyone was very jovial as I believe the owner is Croatian. It was a very bizarre experience to be honest. To begin, they asked us to sit at the bar and order drinks as their kitchen opened. We obliged. But, after the chef went back to the kitchen, we were never offered to be seated at a table. Fine. The food was meh. Portions were way small for the price. Got the beet salad, tuna tartare, burrata, rigatoni. Beet salad was deconstructed and, frankly, tasteless. It was also incredibly meager (I think there was maybe 4-5 pieces of beets in the whole "salad"). I wouldn't recommend. Tuna tartare was equally bland. I rarely add salt when dining out but this definitely warranted more seasoning. It was presented with a paprika based sauce/dressing; I wished they would've combined that into the tartare to bring out the flavors. Burrata was also predictably bland. Maybe it was an off day? I felt like I was consuming a salt restricted diet with this meal. Moreover, I was borderline upset that it took the waiter so long to bring my bread to accompany the burrata .. we were practically done before our bread arrived. But I will say: the veal rigatoni was excellent! It was probably the redeeming factor to the meal and appropriately seasoned although the veal portion was meager and composed of grounded veal so it made me question if it was actually veal. So, would I return? I paid $90, not including tip, for two people and was not full. I was also confused by its culinary aesthetic .. ingredients were fresh and clean, but lacked the richness you typically expect of French cuisine. Despite it being a new restaurant, I wouldn't come back. There are better options nearby that give this place a run for its money. read more

I hosted my engagement party at Copinette in the Mezzanine. IT WAS AMAZING! I spent time with the staff prior to the party figuring out the logistics, food menu and drink menu. They were incredibly thoughtful and professional. The space was perfect for 30 people. The exposed brick set the vibe and the private space was ideal for this occasion. There was a large variety of food to choose from and it was ALL delicious! The staff was attentive, accommodating and friendly. I could not have asked for a better experience.
