I have to say I have eaten here often, love the food and the service....except last night. I am so upset by what occurred I feel the need to write this review. Me and a friend sat at the bar area, had quite a few dishes of food and lots of wine. When we got there the place was empty, 2 hours later as we were wrapping up it was quite full. As soon as we paid our check, and gave 20% tip I might add, the bartender/waiter asked us to leave so he could use the table for people who were waiting outside. How rude! Me and my friend were still clearly chatting and had just spent quite a bit of money there. Really disappointing as I had raved about this place and was excited to bring him there and this was the service we received. Poor. read more

Great, cozy little spot off Bedford street. Everything about the ambiance is incredibly relaxing. The place is extremely small, so there's obviously limited tables. Great food at good prices. The service is a bit slow and it can be tough getting a table at prime hours due to the tiny nature of the restaurant, but it's worth the wait. The cinghiale con polenta (wild boar stew with polenta) and crostini di pulpo (toast with sliced octopus, capers, and tomato pesto) were the absolute standouts of my meal here, and all of the pasta dishes we ordered were solid as well. read more

Although the food was tasty, this restaurant had some of the worst service I've ever seen. It's a tiny space, and with so few tables, it's surprising that we had to essentially beg our waiter to do his job every step of the way. We were seated next to the waiter's friend, and his friend got his order taken and delivered nearly an hour before we did even though we were seated first. We were at the restaurant for over 3 hours due to the lack of service. To make matters worse, we spent almost 20 mins trying to flag someone down to get the check, and when the waiter finally brought it, he realized he forgot to charge for 1 glass of wine. Instead of giving it on the house to compensate for the terrible service, he took our cards and simply charged more without showing us the new bill. 2 stars because the food was decent (though not spectacular), but I would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

Actually really like the food here. However, every time I order delivery there is an issue. I have given many, many chances but tonight when I received the wrong order with the drinks spilt and drenching all food items due to very poor packaging for the 5th+ time I urge you to proceed with caution if ordering take out. This is the only place I feel like I need to call them as I'm placing an order to remind them to package things securely and it still does not happen. After receiving a botched order I called the restaurant to explain and try to rectify- willing to go pick it up to get my food- and was hung up on due to it being too loud and they truly just do not care. I have given too many chances and wasted too much $ on items I will never receive and there is such a poor level of customer service to never be listened to or compensated for lost time and money. Been in the West Village for a little over a year, and has gone through a few iterations. I miss their constructed cocktails, particularly the Bedford which was fantastic. Still, a plate of their Burrata Mozzarella w/ prosciutto and a glass of vermentino is a good night. Superb food, small/cozy, romantic atmosphere, great menu with a mix of seafood/pastas/risotto and other well designed italian dishes. It's a bit on the expensive side of the two dollar sign yelp system since the dishes are a bit smaller. I got pretty full though and had excellent wine as well. It took a while for our pasta to come out after our anchovy fish and salad appetizer (which I highly recommend). Risotto is excellent. Cooked perfectly. I want to like this place more than I actually do. The interior design is certainly attractive and warm. I was initially warmly greeted by the hostess, who, in hindsight, is a clear asset to this place relative to our experience with the waiter. First, for a self-styled "wine bar" (we were prepared to and ultimately got a bottle), the waiter curtly and loudly told us we couldn't just sit to have wine (my friend was getting food), which was sort of embarrassing since, given how small this place is, other patrons are literally rubbing shoulders with you. We were also there on a week night, and the place, although tight, was certainly not fully occupied. I ultimately got a salad to accommodate the situation (they're reasonably priced at $12). The salad was decent (and the meat well seasoned) although the lettuce was a little soggy. I appreciate intimacy and understand the space limitations of restaurants in the area. But this is more of a tourist's idea of West Village dining. read more

This place is so cute I just want to squeeze it. I love this area of the city, it's so quaint. I walked in early on a Friday night, around 5:30 and joined my friend that was already at the bar. This is a quintessential NYC wine bar and the perfect spot for a cozy evening. The bartender was super friendly. I decided to start out with a cocktail and was in the mood for something different so I went with some sort of Kale martini. Now I like's me some Kale but I think I'll relegate it to a side dish and not have it mix with me alcohol....well at least I had a "healthy" cocktail? We decided to start with a meat and cheese plate and we went with some usuals: Soppressata, breseola, bleu and camembert and they all were lovely iterations. I seriously wanted to try just about everything on the menu but here's what we went for. 1. asparagas with prosciutto and egg - white asparagas and pretty darn yummy 2. pappardelle with wild boar - very fresh pasta with just the right amount of gaminess 3. eggplant rolotini - probably my least favorite dish but still good. Ahhhh...here is where my mind starts to fail. I know we ordered more and everything was fresh and tatsy but I can't recall what exactly? I wasn't a HUGE fan of the wine list, the bartender was great by letting me have a few tastes before committing to a bottle though. I ended up with an Aglianico that I've had before. It was served at the wrong temperature, I get the space issue, but the mark-up was also excessive. I definitely would go back for the food and the atmosphere and suffer through the wine list : ). read more

Ahh this place is great! I've come here twice so far.. once for drinks and another time this past weekend for dinner and it hasn't disappointed. Service is excellent, quick and friendly, the food is amazing, and the atmosphere is cozy and romantic. Over the weekend, I came here for dinner with the bf and we really enjoyed ourselves. They give you fresh bread with olive oil to start, which is always a plus. We ordered the tuna tartare and the spicy artichokes for appetizers. Both were so good..probably one of the best tartares I've had and it was a pretty decent amount, too. I feel like most places give you a small little tartare but this was bigger than the size of my fist. The artichoke dish wasn't overly spicy but they were super tender and in this garlic tomato sauce that was heaven. I could have licked the plate. For our entrees, I ordered the tortellini in a cream sauce with peas and proscuitto (can't remember the name of this dish) and my boyfriend ordered the clams linguine. Both were so delicious. They are smaller portioned but heavy enough for you not to leave hungry. We also got the creme brûlée for dessert, plus a bottle of wine AND we both ordered an espresso martini at the end of the night. Oops. We had actually also ordered a cheese plate with camembert on it but that never ended up coming out.. probably didn't need it anyways with all of the other food we ordered. There are tons of apps to order on the menu, something for everyone! All reasonably priced, too. As if this wasn't enough of a taste, I can't wait to come back here again and try more dishes. The service was so fast. The food came out pretty quickly after we ordered, which is nice because I'm impatient :) Our server was very friendly and accommodating the entire night. The restaurant itself is TINY. I mean, I had a hard time squeezing in between the tables to sit down and I'm pretty small. I guess that's hard to work around since the space is so small but be aware that you basically are sitting with your neighbors. Horrendous experience; I can not recommend this restaurant. While it is true the food is reasonably priced, they get you with the ridiculously marked up wine (ex: $14 glass for mediocre Rose). Plus, the entire space is about as big as a typical Manhattan bedroom, which means getting used to constantly being bumped into by the wait staff, and acoustics that render conversation meaningless, unless you are willing to scream, which regrettably everyone does. My most poignant criticism is reserved for the utter disrespect and sheer lack of professionalism from the waiter who ran our credit cards after our meal (we were a group of 7, all local residents). Instead of swiping my card once, I was charged three times for my meal. I encourage anyone who has eaten here recently to check their credit card and checking account statements, because apparently this happens often here. I went back to Cotenna this morning to inform management about the problem, and was met with total indifference. They basically said " crap happens, sorry, nothing we can do. Charges should fall off your statement in a couple days, if not, come back. Sorry for the inconvenience". That's all I got, and frankly it's not enough. There are too many other good little mom and pop restaurants struggling to survive in our neighborhood (Greenwich Village)....I would rather support a business that cares about customer service, and building loyalty with their neighbors. absolutely awful experience!!!!! we had a 10:15pm reservation (we arrived on time) and were rudely told by the nasty waitress that the restaurant would be closing within 30 minutes. we purposely booked here because it was advertised as open until midnight!!!! the whole scenario made us feel incredibly rushed & completely ruined my girlfriends birthday dinner. you need to advertise that the restaurant might be closing early when people book a set reservation time well in advance. the same $25 per person fee for cancellation should be applied for wasting peoples fucking time & ruining their night!!!!! i will most certainly not be back & will be warning all my clients how horrific your shitty service is read more

Came in for a Thursday lunch with a friend, and I couldn't recommend it more. They give quality food, drinks, service, and vibes for a good price. We ordered a glass of the house red and my friend got the cocktail with absinthe, I don't remember the name. House red was nothing special, but the cocktail was strong, well-balanced, and went down real easy. Definitely recommend. To start, we ordered the burratta proscutto special app and half a dozen oysters, and they brought out crusty bread with olive oil and a few marinated olives (yum). The oysters were very fresh and delicious Blue Point, and the burrata dish was some of the best I've had yet. The prosciutto was key- incredibly fresh and tasty. I ordered the fettucini al funghi to eat and my friend ordered the grilled lamb chops. The pasta was above average- tasty, good portioned, and well-presented but I wouldn't go back just for this specific pasta dish. The lamb chops, however, were the stuff of dreams. Tender, delicious, and heartily-portioned. Overall I loved the restaurant, especially for the price. The ambiance is very intimate and European, great for small parties and dates. I wouldn't give it 5 stars because not all the dishes/drinks were impressive and the space itself is far too small to be convenient for parties larger than 4, but they fill a specific niche very well. Another small pseudo Italian ( but honestly cute ) restaurant from the owner of " aria ". This time the result is mediocre at best. We went tonite and the service was non existing. The hostess was completely clueless and helpless.... All she kept saying to us was " I don't know.....let me ask someone else ". If you are that clueless don't wait tables ! And the food was nothing to write home about.... I had better taglioli with clams in my school cafeteria in Italy ( yes, I am from Italy ). But the shock came with the check when we realized that a glass of sparking wine ( NOT French champagne ) is $ 18, a bottle of Pellegrino is $ 8 and the cicchetti of the day ( usually $ 10) are priced at $ 19. I realize now that the reason people are standing outside waiting for a table is because the place is so tiny, not because the food is great. Their meatballs taste like Trader Joe's, only not as good and the sauce tastes like it is out of a jar. Very salty. The octopus special is sliced and and strange in texture. I think they bought a package of sliced frozen octopus. And it's not cheap! The calamari was just the rings and you know what that means...frozen pig anus! Very mediocre. read more

Was looking for a cozy romantic spot last night and this was absolutely perfect! Tables are extremely close together (basically touching each other) but for some reason, it didn't feel like it, and certainly didn't bother us. You can't make same-day reservations but we only had to wait about ten minutes for a table of 2, which is nothing at 7:30 on a Friday night. The waiter was friendly and comforting, very knowledgeable and the food was absolutely unbelievable. Seriously... Next level, 11 out of a possible 10, every bite makes you shake your head because you can't believe how good it is, food... We got the burrata and prosciutto to start and then spaghetti carbonara and pappardelle cinghiale (wild boar). Everything was as fresh as can be. Pasta was homemade and silky smooth. Flavors were out of this world. We also ordered a bottle of wine and the bill came to under $100. Super affordable, delicious, fun, romantic.... Perfect spot. We will DEFINITELY be returning... Just fabulous. Went for lunch and it was buzzing. Tried the tuna carpaccio, lamb chops, porchetta crostini, and braised boar risotto. All were excellent but the porchetta was truly memorable, among the best things I've had in the neighborhood. Staff are just great too---very welcoming and clearly pros. Food is good but service was rather rude. We were seated at 7 and were told they needed the table at 8. We agreed because we were fine with just getting some wine and appetizers. We ordered wine, cheese, and olives with feta. Cheese was lackluster, and even though we got two different wines they tasted exactly the same. I feel like there was no integrity in the pour. Just a quick hustle. Furthermore, they didn't put in our olive and feta order and, after reminding them, we finally got it around 7:40. Then they hustled us out, clearing the table without letting us finish the food we finally got. Didn't ask, nada. Just whisked it away before we could say anything, half a plate of olives and feta, and some cheese. We asked for the check and were waiting to pay. There was no need to clear the table prematurely. Prior to that, we sat talking about how we should come back with our significant others but once they took the food away from us mid-eating we were left with a sour taste in our mouths. It's a shame. We are paying customers and to be hustled out (especially since the brought the food out late because they forgot!) sucked. Haven't come across this kind of rude service much. My friends and I came to the restaurant with a reservation. We ordered a lot food. They kept trying to take our unfinished plates away. They asked us to leave the restaurant for four times because our dinning time is almost 2 hours. We said that we were still working on the dessert, but they kept saying that we had 15 mins left. Horrible service. Funny thing is that they never asked people at the table next to us to leave, not even once. I have never been to a restaurant where waitresses kept asking me to leave. My best friend was coming to visit NYC from Boston and I wanted to take her to a nice restaurant for dinner. I made a reservation at Cotenna a month in advance for a Saturday night. When we arrived at the restaurant, it was mostly empty. There were several available tables and a few bar seats open. The hostess told us our seats would be at the little strip of wood attached to the window and right next to the door. This meant that my friend and I were going to have to sit on bar stools to eat, not facing each other. It was also snowing that night and the window was cold and drafty, so I kindly asked if we could sit at one of the open tables. We wanted to make a night of drinks, dinner, dessert and catching up (especially after not seeing each other for so long). The manager that night, Marina, overheard us and came over and tried to sit us in a similar setting at the bar. I again explained that we did not want to sit at the bar on bar stools and that I made the reservation a month in advance. Marina argued that there was a party of ten coming in and she needed all the empty tables. My friend and I said that we were disappointed and asked if we sat at the little strip of wood if they could at least do a glass of wine, or appetizer on the house? Marina pushed past me and said "No, you're just being difficult, I offered you the bar!" Right after she said that, another couple walked into the restaurant and she seated them in the middle of where she said the party of ten would be.....at a table for two! We asked the hostess if the couple was a part of the party of ten and the hostess said no. While we were trying to book an Uber to leave, Marina sent a waiter over to pick an argument with us and kick us out. The waiter told us that we should just sit on the stools at the window and turn our bodies sideways to face one another while we ate. He then said that he was a professional and had forty years of experience and that it was rude of us to argue with him and the manager, because it was our fault we made a general reservation and did not specify that we wanted a table (we were just trying to leave at that point). I have never felt so humiliated or harassed in my entire life!!!!!!! Why did Marina send the WAITER over to get involved? My friend and I ended up having to stand out in the snow and call another restaurant. However, we ended up finding an AMAZING little Italian restaurant called Cacio e Pepe. We told Cacio e Pepe what happened to us and the hostess had two glasses of Prosecco waiting for us when we arrived. She and the wait staff went out of their way to make sure a table was cleared for us. They were fully booked that night, but did everything they could for us. We ended up having a wonderful meal there and it was one of the best dinners I have had in a long time. read more
