I was not impressed with my pizza at all. The crust looks like it was premade. I ordered a prosciutto and arugula pizza for $25 and I think they took one slice of prosciutto and cut it up into little pieces and put one on each quarter slice. You can tell from the picture. I would not come back here again. Service is pretty slow, but the environment is very nice. They need to do better. Oh and one glass of wine is $16. Absolute tourist trap stay away. Little Italy is a really beautiful place to have dinner at night. The food was very rich and tasty. Served with free bread, including olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Service was poor. It started out good because the host was really friendly. But the waiter made us feel like an inconvenience and would try to start walking away before we could finish a request, such refill on bread. We also asked for 3 to go waters and the waiter seemed irritated. We probably spent like $150 (food, wine, tip) so I think a couple to go waters isn't much too much to ask. read more

My son-in-law took me here, and what a warm old, world Italian feel it was. Listen, it's on Mulberry Street, and you know the food better be good because the competition is steep on that block. It's either go hard- or - go home. I had the eggplant Parmesan, it was food, but I've had better. It needs a better sauce; the res saice was okay but not that great. I wanted more of a tangy/sweet sauce. The sauce is everything in an eggplant dish because it's like a sponge. I didn't get that; the eggplant needed some salt as well. My daughter said her chicken parm was good, but then I tasted my husband's dish, and it was a no Bueno for me; it needed salt too, which my husband added, and then it was better. My son-in-law loved his pasta with seafood. I tasted the shrimp, but once again, it was missing something for me. Whenever I'm back, I'll give them another chance to redeem themselves. Ok so this Cali girl with her 99.5% Italian girl who has been coming her since she was a bambina came in the pouring rain in search for some good Italian food. After walking the block and being nearly accosted by the barkers at every other restaurant we stopped here. The absolute sweet greeter asked if we were interested in dinner only when we approached him...REFRESHING!! Inside was pretty loud. He said he could set us up outside in a dry spot with a personal heater. Amazing!! We got some still water house bread with this delicious concoction, EVO, fresh garlic, Italian seasoning and a little heat. Carlos our server came over. We asked for his top 3 favorite apps. He recommended sort of the basic Bruschetta, calamari, garlic bread. We told him we were looking for the real deal. Out came the Bruschetta, Eggplant Rollantini, and Clam Oreganata. Oh holy hell!!! I don't even like clams but I was using the house bread to get all the sauce up from the cast iron skillet!!! It was a literal downpour the whole time we ate and we stayed toasty warm and dry, had great music playing and a kick ass staff all the way around. I was hungry, wandering around Little Italy, and saw Da Gennaro. I had looked at their menu prior so was excited when they had an outdoor space available. I was also a bit leery at first, because I don't trust places with someone standing outside inviting you to eat, but the food was good and service excellent. I was disappointed that they did not have tortellini en brodo, which was listed on their online menu. It's my fave and hard to find, but I understand. I ordered the eggplant parmigiana. It comes with linguini but I got penne instead. I loved the eggplant; it was crispy and flavorful. Definitely the best version I've had. However, I could have done without the side of pasta and unseasoned sauce. The eggplant was perfectly seasoned but the pasta with it was bland. Bread and oil was good. I'm a rush to turn the table, they didn't let the tiramisu come to room temperature, which was too bad. So I can't comment on that as it was inedible. Great Scott Da Gennaro, as the generous portions just south of Grand Street generate more buzz than the grandeur of Frank Sinatra gently busting out toons from at least the Great Depression. As a good eater does, I get the fact that this menu is not going to go easy on the green, but at least they accept plastic in regards to payment, so you will not feel shortchanged. I started with the gregarious meatballs, which sit in a Pomodoro sauce like globs on an easel. They taste a bit dry, if not for the tomato sauce, these would be forgettable in nature, so forgo these in the future. The star of this grandiose (okay, not that grandiose) review is the Seafood Risotto. Goodness gracious! It seemed they just grabbed as much seafood out of the ocean and graciously put them on the plate. The addition of parmesano regíanno (optional) gravitates the dish to another level. Ever the creamy and never the grotesque or gruesome, this will not fail you, and engorge your stomach to the point you might feel gastric ineptitude if you are not ready. That is why you must drink the water and allow your stomach time to generate the power to digest such a meal. It is worth it. Unlimited bread goes a long way in New York City restaurants. This one in Little Italy gives it to you. We should all be grateful for that. Go here and do not let gelatiny vibes get to you. This is a classic Little Italy restaurant. The menu is huge, so it's ideal if you get a few different dishes to share. Our large group ordered 6 different pasta dishes, and most were great. The only one I didn't care for was the pesto gnocchi, which was lacking flavor. The rigatoni vodka and the pappardelle with cream and mushrooms were my favorites. The burrata was a great appetizer also. I would stay away from the Caesar salad though, as it was nothing special. We had mixed experiences with the Tiramisu. It wasn't as nice as the other room and they kind of forget about you since you are over there. We started with the free bread and the Garlic Bread. The free bread is very good and fresh. The garlic bread was ok, I would go for the free bread. We ordered the Chicken Parmigiana and the Eggplant Parmigiana. They were both very tasty and good portions, but the pasta was very average. Food was 4/5.
