I'm not sure what's going on with the mixed reviews here but I've always had a good experience with their bagels! Their bagels are an example of the New York bagel that you want! I haven't tried any of their speciality sandwiches other than their Lox with Cream Cheese but if the bagel is good, I don't need much more than that and maybe some cream cheese! Got an LES on everything flat... This is an embarrassment to any establishment selling bagels. They should stick to their baked goods and nothing else. I am not the type to leave reviews, nonetheless negative review, but I was absolutely appalled at my experience today. The first red flag were flies near the bagel baskets, and in the store. My friend and I placed an order while the store was mildly busy at best (maybe 2 or 3 people behind us). We ordered 2 bagels and made our way to take a seat and wait. After 25 minutes go by and the line has lengthened, I asked the cashier if there was any update on our order, as we've been waiting almost 30 minutes for 2 bagels, and was told it would be "just a minute". After another 5-8 minutes go by, my friend asks again for some clarification of what's going on, and this time the cashier shrugs his shoulder and says he does not know. At this point, I noticed them laughing at us. By the 45 minute mark, I ask again what is going on and how it is genuinely possible that the entire store filled and cleared out, and we still have yet to received 2 bagels. Again, I was given absolutely not explanation, sense of urgency or help in the slightest. We ended up with no bagels and asked for a refund. I've never in my life experienced such atrocious costumer service in my life. I will never be coming back. read more

This quaint little counter serves up some of the best bagels in the area - in my typical smelly fashion, I grab a toasted onion with scallion cream cheese on the walk home, and it serves as the perfect ending to a stressful workday. Also, get their black and white cookie because it'll be the best you've ever had - soft, but not falling apart, slathered in icing. Hands down the best bagel that I've ever had in New York! I'm sorry but as a jersey girl, I know jersey bagels are simply the BEST. That said, I couldn't even believe my bagel was so good. It was totally comparable to the Jersey bagels that I know and love. I ordered an everything bagel with cream cheese. I didn't want my bagel toasted, so I expected it to be cold. I was pleasantly surprised when it it bit into my bagel and it was warm! I have to give it another try to decide if the bagels really deserve 5 stars. After seeing the longest line EVER in front of Russ + Daughters, my friend and I decided to check out Davidovich Bakery since it also got rave reviews on Yelp. Can't say that I didn't miss that caviar cream cheese a la Russ + Daughters, but that LES definitely helped satisfy my bagel craving. The bagel was toasty and the portion of lox was more than generous. I only wish that there had been slightly more cream cheese. The capers also didn't seem to be the freshest. I have found my new favorite bagel spot - and it's absolutely DELICIOUS. Davidovich Bakery is found in the always awesome Essex St. Market, right behind the Luca & Bosco Ice Cream Stand. (That's behind the very first door of the market, right next to Essex restaurant. The bagels here are soft, chewy, and just absolute perfection. The everything bagel is delicious, as long as you have some mints after. The strawberry and veggie cream cheeses are my favorites, and the LES sandwich is absolutely fantastic. It opens right as the Essex Street Market opens, which means that I can stop by right before I catch my F train - way more convenient than my former usuals (Murray's Bagels, Ess-a-Bagel & Kossar's Bialys (which has become subpar anyway)). Plus, the service here is way better than anywhere else I've been. The owner's also there whenever I'm there, and he's super nice. Thank you for bringing back super yummy high quality bagels to to the Lower East Side. And yes, they're a bit pricey - but totally worth it for the quality (and size) of the bagels. But, if you're on a budget like me, just don't end up eating one everyday, and make the sandwiches are a "super ultra very bad days only" type of food. And keep an eye out for the different groupons/scoutmob/online deals they offer! read more

I also like the veggie and scallion flavored cream cheeses. the bagels also freeze well so try the baker's dozen. I'm happy that a good bagel exists the lower east side. I stayed with a friend in the neighborhood and wanted to go grab breakfast in the morning. Yelp swears this bakery has great bagels. It turns out it's part of a little... grocery... store.. .thing. Maybe a sort of co-op? Indoor street market? I have no idea. But tucked away in the corner is the bakery. It took a surprising amount of time to toast the bagel and slather on what appeared to be about 1.3 lbs of cream cheese on my Everything bagel. And it was fucking awesome. What else can you say? I had the LES bagel layered with yummy cream cheese and they are so generous with the lox. I didn't even feel too bad eating the capers that I'm not such a fan of. My threshold for bagels is set lower than normal, coming from a country where there are no good bagels. We literally have 1 supermarket-distributed bagel brand and it sucks. Hence when this girl is in NYC she is on the look out for a good chewy bagel. I ordered the Everything bagel with cream cheese. Loved the various flavors and bits on my bagel - ooh onions, rye and poppy is dat chu?... as well as the thickest spread of cream cheese I have ever seen. Bless America and her large portions. A good on the go coffee/breakfast place. It's located within the Essex market. Food was displayed nearly along the shelves. many varieties of pastries. This bakery is located in the Essex street market in the back corner. We order their bagels with plain cream cheese. I'm no bagel expert but I felt it tasted like any other deli bagel. Didn't get a chance to try the pastries which maybe better.They serve eggs now but the only breakfast sandwich you can get is bagel with egg and cheese. The worker can only do one order at a time so I don't recommend going in a larger group with everyone wanting toasty bagels. I didn't really feel the cashier was very kind considering how slow it was. There were also some specialty bagels worth trying however, I don't see myself going out of my way to get their bagels still a good eat. read more

Came here, from SF, with some friends in Boston. We all were craving a real New York bagel, and we were all very happy with Davidovich. I got the whitefish on a whole wheat everything bagel. What a great development --whole wheat =less guilt, everything = delicious indulgence. LOVED it. It's also not easy for us to get whitefish salad out in SF, but when I've gotten it in other shops in NYC, it's so thick that your first bite sends whitefish salad splurting out in all directions. It's more than unseemly, it's unpleasant, unbalanced and you end up not eating it all, which seems wasteful. Not so at Davidovich. It's a generous but sane portion. The staff was super friendly with our large, indecisive group. There are tables right in front of their stand but most people seem to take their orders to go. We did try the faux cronut as well, but it was disappointing. It just tasted like fried pastry, not bad, really, but nothing special. We got the genuine article at Dominique Ansel's bakery the next day and it really was kind of transcendent. So go here for a dough nutty thing but don't be fooled... it ain't no cronut. Definitely recommend the bagels here, even better if you can get a groupon or yelp deal. read more

Tried the Avenue A location and had an avocado toast which was very tasty and substantial. Went back a week or two later and was disappointed. there was about a 1/4 of an avocado, if that much, placed on top of toast, so it was really eating a slab of toast with a bit of avocado as a garnish. Just ordered online and got my delivery. The order was wrong with instead of the latte I ordered with skim milk, I received a nice cup of cold milk and my bagel was toasted even though I had requested it not to be. But that didn't stop me from eating the yummy bagel. Delicious even toasted! A very nice woman from the bakery called about an hour after the order was delivered letting me know she saw that they had messed up my order and that they were preparing a large latte to be delivered ASAP. We rushed out to catch our train, only for us to discover once there that my bagel was missing. We went back the next morning, and they gave me a complimentary replacement bagel, but they had run out of bacon, didn't refund me for that, and this all without much apology for the disservice. Placed an online order for two bagels. They called 20 minutes later to tell me they were out of turkey bacon. I told them to leave the bacon off the order and to please deliver ASAP. An hour goes by and I call them back to find out what's going on. They say the order just left for delivery... Did he even know which delivery I was talking about? I guess it's a standard reply to end the call. 1:40 goes by and I still am here with no bagels. They have stopped answering the phones now. This is not the first time I've waited such a long time but I always give the benefit of the doubt. If you want timely delivery service, this is not the place. Looking for an authentic bagel? Davidovich is your place. Hand rolled, boiled then baked, old fashioned, proper bagels. Best bagel in NYC, even better than Absolute. I usually order by the dozen and take them home where they are slathered with all manner of toppings. Sadly, good bagels have become really hard to find in the city but Davidovich solves that problem for those of us who know what a real bagel tastes like. Enjoy! read more
