When I walk in I head straight for Davidovich, order my black coffee and LES (a must-try classic) and take a couple minutes out of my errand to sit down and enjoy an immensely satisfying and delicious meal. a bit over a year later and I am no longer a fan. This store is just never open. whether i come at 4pm or 1pm. they are closed or closing or they have no stock. At times, there's been a sign saying, "Be right back", but it's a lie. It's annoying because on many occasions, I have refrained from picking up bagels figuring i'd get them on the way home at Davidovich, only to find them closed. They must have gotten some sweetheart deal which allows them to afford to be open 10 random hours a week. It doesnt seem like they are interested in doing business any more. read more

I am writing about their seamless service. I have never ever written a review- this is my first because I am so infuriated. It's been an hour and a half and my food is nowhere to be found. I've called the store three times, only to be very rudely dismissed by a woman who works there. On the first call, she said "there are other deliveries" and then immediately hung up the phone, on the second call she said "he's been walking for three hours" and promptly hung up the phone again. What does that even mean? The third call I asked to speak to a manager, and upon telling "the manager" about the rudeness of her employee, she ALSO was dismissive about my complaint and then told me that it was busy. She also told me the food would be late because their delivery guy was walking. WALKING?! Don't say my food will be delivered in 30-45 minutes if your only delivery guy is walking from the LES to 14th street! Never order from here. Their staff and their service is infuriatingly unprofessional. read more

Coffee was fine but it took ten minutes for me to get a bagel that wasn't even toasted (I asked for it to be toasted well). Service was fine. One of them asked if they should remake my bagel when I asked about it but the guy that took my order wouldn't even say hi to me and was not a good listener for more reasons than the bagel. read more

Tried it for the first time because I feel there is a lack of good traditional bagel stores on the Lower East Side (Katz's and Russ and Daughters I consider to be more specialty places). The LES sandwich here was so good and fresh - generous portion of lax paired perfectly with onions capers tomato and cream cheese. The prices here are more than fair, bagels are very fresh even at 3 in the afternoon. Friendly delivery people and fast delivery - always comes under the estimated time. Try this new LES spot! Top notch New York bagels and a genuinely friendly staff, located in the excellent Essex Street indoor market with some great neighbors. Quality cream cheese offered a perfect complement. Typical of the kind of perks we seek living in & visiting NYC. The bagel and herbal tea selections encouraged me to also order a blueberry muffin, which was airy and fresh without a trace of greasiness. The bagels here are made fresh and right in essex street market. They have a very small spot so it can be easily missed. The bagels here have volume and dense. It is somewhat chewy and this i am not used to. This is what a NY bagel should taste like but im just so used to the local deli bagels in midtown. Therefore, I prefer the bagels that are over toasted and slapped on with a massive amount of cream cheese. read more

Estimated time online said one hour for ONE bagel sandwich to be delivered 6 blocks away- which is fine. I waited. This is actually a really good place. The bagels are delightful. Coffee is well done. They have croissants and all kind of bagels. The reason I am giving this 3 stars instead of 4 is because they need to get a better online ordering system. The poor guy that came today with our breakfast was soaking wet and so was our bag with our bagels. A plastic bag would have solved the issue, of course. They do take quite a bit to deliver too. Last week we waited more than 40 minutes and we live 3 minutes away from this place. We still order from here since their bagels are a million times better than what you get in the nearby delis and coffee shops (I am looking at you Irving Farm!!) read more

I want to like and support this small neighborhood business, but you guys need to be more consistent with your opening times. I come mostly in the morning after dropping my child at school, then I'm off to work. Usually you're open, but there have been many times that I come by and I'm told you're not open. That means I'm going to go to another vendor and spend money that I intended to spend there. But what bothers me is that the times I was told you're not open, I wasn't told in a nice way. No need to be nasty if you're not ready to serve customers, but maybe don't have staggered opening times and I won't bother you. read more

I'm always a supporter for small businesses; however, I was very disappointed with the customer service here. Heard great accolade about the fresh baked bagels pastries, so I stopped by the stall after browsing through the grocery area at the Essex Market. With an array of different bagel flavors, I had my heart set on the blue-swirly, blueberry bagel, a flavor not too commonly seen. But as it turned out, the sole staff had already put up a 'will be back' sign because she needed to step out for fifteen minutes. I didn't have time to wait around, so disappointed with an empty shopping bag, I was about to turn away when a 'regular' showed up and she immediately served him. Oh, what great hospitality. I wasn't too trilled with this crass treatment and the playing of 'favoritism'. All I wanted was a bagel, a deal that could've been made under a minute. Well, her lost, and of course I didn't stay around till she returned. I'm sure the foods are great and delicious, but I'm a big proponent for good customer service. Not expecting a big, friendly smile, but at least an equality to treat all customers fairly. read more
