Stopped in for an afternoon bite after hiking. Had the taco sampler from the window. You get a number and then they'll deliver to your table. The rock cod and halibut tacos were our favorite. Made two stops here while in Juneau, which became my favorite visited city in Alaska. Everything we had was fresh and filled with some much flavor. The ambiance is super casual and COLD. Outdoor seating only with some heaters, so dress warm. The food is definitely worth it. The service was great, everyone was so friendly! On our trip we tried some other seafood that was also good, Tracy's , but this was certainly our favorite. Will definitely come by again next time I am in Juneau. read more

We had the spicy blackened rockfish tacos and the 'Trash bear' grizzly style (with pico de Gallo and cilantro) with blackened spicy halibut. Walk from our ship; we order the Trash Bear Dirty Fries with Halibut omg I think we under estimated what to expect, the fish was so fresh on the fries and cooked perfectly, I'm not sure the sauce used but the flavor was delicious. In the same area but located in the back where their drinks were sold we tried their speciality local wine name: Ear Creek Strawberry; and if you like sweet wine like I do you will love this one! I can't quite remember how I discovered Deckhand Dave's, but after seeing all the reviews and awards I had to stop by. Since I was on a cruise and had a shore excursion, I had to order and eat quick before heading out, so I just ordered a halibut taco and salmon taco. The cashier had an attitude when I asked about the wait and even explained why I was asking - because I had to catch an excursion - and she seemed a bit more cheery when I left a tip. Luckily the waitress' personality made up for the cashier's attitude. The waitress was super sweet, asking if I needed anything else and made sure to check my order was correct when dropping off the food. The tacos are pretty small, and for $15 for the two tacos, you definitely don't get that much fish either. I was kind of upset to also see rockfish gone from the menu as past menus and the website menu has that. oh well. The fish for both was definitely fresh as can be and beautifully fried. The salmon was panko coated while the halibut was beer battered. Both had a thin layer of batter, nicely fried, crispy crunchy and the fish was so flaky and moist. Salmon usually dries out too when being fried when not prepped right but this place does it right to not dry it out. Both tacos also get topped with red cabbage slaw, pico de gallo, and a choice of mild or spicy sauce and I chose the spicy. The slaw is delicious too. Crunchy, juicy and flavorful. The sauce is simply a spicy mayo. The tortilla is also soft and warmed well. Overall, I can see and very much appreciate the high reviews and ratings for the fish itself being so fresh, delicious, and nicely prepped and fried. But overall, it's just a well done fish taco. Nothing to make me go crazy or hurry back to. I would still recommend it to others to try at least once, but I don't think I would go back again. read more
