Deckhand Daves is definitely a hidden treasure in Juneau. Dave hand makes the tacos and runs them himself. The atmosphere is great with music playing, people socializing and the tables are covered in photos which draw you in to his life as a fisherman. Saw the high ratings on Yelp, decided to check it out. It appears Yelpers know their fish tacos. Ordered the breaded salmon tacos. They were perfect, I would definitely eat them again...or try one of the other varieties which all looked delicious. I was there in late afternoon, had no wait at all. Being Mexican, my expectations of tacos in Juneau, Alaska were skeptical. Turns out these fish tacos were one the best, if not THE best I have ever had! I had the Taco Sampler of halibut, rock fish, and salmon. Halibut was my favorite. The sauce was delicious and for little street taco sized tortillas, they packed it with fish. No wonder Dave is getting so many great reviews. I look forward to my return visits. read more

Dave runs an absolutely wonderful food truck/boat! I had the blackened rockfish tacos which were superb and very fresh. Don't forget to try the fries - also top notch! He has a great selection of local beers and water and plenty of covered seating with an incredible view of the docks, cruise ships, and channel! Make sure to stop by when you are downtown! I come here for work about every three months and have been struggling to find something truly terrific. The Halibut Tacos fit the bill. I have been on a fish taco spree as of late having just gotten back from Maui and Kauai I have tried just about every Fish Taco I could in the last 10 days. I can be picky with my fish taco. These did not disappoint! The fish is very fresh and it has a light beer batter on it, giving you a nice crisp without feeling greasy. Often times with a breaded fish it can get overcooked and slightly chewy, not these, cooked to perfection. The slaw has a nice tang without overwhelming the dish itself and adds a great brightness in color and flavor to the taco. Spicy sauce. It has a mild heat to it and is just the right amount to add flavor without making your taco a dripping soggy mess. My only critique is I could have used 1 more taco ;) The guys were very friendly read more

Excellent tacos and fries. Great tunes pumping out the speakers to boot. Staff could have been a little less surly, but it's what I've come to expect from the independent northwest spirit. Rockfish tacos were on point, good as if not better than their pricier cousin the Halibut. Potatoes fried in the fish oil makes for awesome flavor and crunch. Outdoor seating right alongside makes this a winner. Don't be fooled by the crowds at king crab shack, this place is LEGIT if you enjoy well priced tasty food. read more

It's tourist season in Juneau, so expect to pay tourist prices. Despite all of that, great service and excellent fish tacos and fish n chips. Everyone was happy and well fed. You can go spicy or mild. While enticing to order salmon tacos (which were really good), we suggest going with the halibut which is excellent. Definitely get the spicy sauce for your tacos too. We met Deckhand Dave himself and he was awesome and from Juneau. Come support this local joint. And if you accidentally spill your beer and try to blame it on your kids, they'll hook you back up. read more

Deckhand Dave's had literally the best taco I've ever had. We ordered the halibut and chips and the halibut tacos. The halibut taco was absolute perfection and the halibut and chips were amazing. In both, the fish was very lightly breaded with a crisp exterior which let the halibut really shine. I can't wait to go back to Juneau to go back here! read more

This place really does deserve the #1 rating in Juneau. I've truly never had fried fish that has ever tasted so good, and the little fireplace in the tent warmed me up during the chilly evening. I think this captures the spirit of alaska to a t, especially with the photos from locals embedded into the tables. If I ever come back to this lovely town, I'm going here first. read more

Tried the sampler, the halibut is definitely the best of the 3. Nice tent seating area with heat lamps. Food comes out quick. The only downside is the small fish portions. Don't expect it to fill you up if you're hungry. read more

Not bad, not bad for Juneau! My boyfriend and I decided to grab a quick bite here for lunch before heading out to the island on our kayak, and boy we were glad we did. My boyfriend ordered the Three Fish Sampler Tacos, which came with the beer battered halibut, blackened rockfish and breaded salmon tacos. I just opted for one beer battered halibut taco since I had a huge breakfast. They gave us an option to have a mild or spicy sauce with our tacos, so we opted for the latter. The tacos were VERY small, and pricey given the size (the most expensive tacos I've had), but wow the fish was very fresh and cooked to perfection. It was super moist, flakey and had very minimal batter- just enough to give you that crunch you need. The only thing I would change in terms of taste was the amount of seasoning/sauce on the tacos. I think it could have used more sauce just to give it more flavour. Overall very well executed tacos, and the best deep fried fish I've had in my life! Seriously all places should have their batter as minimal as possible like this place. The right amount of batter on the fish makes a huge difference in taste, and allows the fresh fish speak for itself. Didn't expect to find good Californian tacos here, but I'm glad I did! read more

We took a trip to Juneau over Memorial Day weekend in May. While wandering around the giftshops my boyfriend and I spotted Deckhand Daves. The tent looked inviting to get out of the wind in, so we purchased one of each fish taco (Salmon, Halibut, and Rockfish) and they were AMAZING!! Wonderful spices and crispiness from the sauce and batter- definitely our best meal while visiting Juneau. read more

This was an exceptional food stop. Extraordinary fish tacos. The fish was fresh and well seasoned. It is a nice stop as you get off or about to board a ship. Pleasant sitting area. Awesome halibut tacos and fries. The tartar sauce is wonderful and will without question be bottled in the next few years. We had a large 15 person group (kids and adults, fish lovers/haters) and the staff was super friendly and helpful. Everyone walked away happy. We even had a corn allergy and they did everything to accommodate us. Pleasant sitting area. A must--Totally recommend!! These guys are just getting started but they have a long runway. Delicious fish tacos! I have eaten every fish taco available to me, and living in San Diego I have tried them all. These were extremely tasty! The fish was fresh and cooked perfectly(I had the trio sampler). The sauce is what makes a fish taco good. It was really good here. My only complaint is they are VERY small tacos(street taco sized) and very expensive($5 each). Glad I tried them! The workers were all very friendly. read more

We give Deck Hand Daves five stars for the food and the service. I had the salmon n chips. Very good and fresh. My husband had the 3 taco sampler which was also outstanding. The best thing was the food was brought out by Dave himself. He took pictures with us, greeted everyone as they came to the stand. He even bused the tables after people left. They offer a variety of quality fish and the freshest ingredients in all of their tacos. I recently had the rockfish tacos for the first time and they were out of this world. It's also a great assurance knowing that the people running the show used to be fishermen, so you know they got the plug on the freshest catches. Stopped by to check it out and was assured I'd be eating the best beer-battered tacos in town. Now, I live in SoCal and have had plenty of fish tacos, so I was a little skeptical. Man, oh man, am I glad I ordered these bad boys! They were some of the best tacos I've had!! The batter was nice and light (I've had plenty that have too thick a batter or are drenched in oil from being fried too long), the slaw was tasty and the chipotle sauce was perfectly spiced. Do yourself a favor and go here. I got the beer battered halibut; my sister ordered the sliders, which were also amazing!! Don't let the fact that Deckhand Dave's is an outdoor trailer restaurant on the cruise ship dock deter you. We had the Halibut fish and chips. The batter was the UNBELIEVABLE. My 3 British friends who ate with me said it was the best fish and chips they ever had. If you are in Juneau, don't miss it. read more
