Dewey's pizza is probably the most delicious pizza I've had in the St. Louis metro this far. The wait wasn't terribly long at 5pm. They have a good selection of specialty pizzas. I got the Don Corleone and my friend got the Socrates Revenge. Socrates Revenge is a very unique pizza experience if you like olive oil, feta, and green olives. Went here tonight, and realized I had forgotten how AMAZING the pizza at Dewey's is. I need to go here more often. I agree that it is possibly the best pizza it St. Louis, with the possible exception being La PIzza. When you add in the nicer atmosphere (La Pizza is like a shack), solid beer list, and great salads, Dewey's is unbeatable. All their pizzas have a light, crispy and delicious crust. You can watch them hand toss the dough as you walk in. The sauces (tomato or garlic/oil) are flavorful and applied in just the right amount. The cheese is classic Mozzarella, although I recommend upgrading to fresh Mozzarella if you are into that. The topping choices are endless and include some interesting gourmet options. All the pre-set offerings I have sampled are delicious. The Meatball is my favorite. One secret: The CALZONE. Pretty good sized, and deal at ~$8, and includes 3 toppings. Chicken, Bacon and Fresh Mozzarella is a great option. Service is fast and friendly. My only complaint is that this place gets very crowded very early (popular with families), so be prepared to wait, especially on weekends. Well worth the wait however. For me Pizza wise - Woohoo! Just knowing it is a Provel- Free-Zone is worth the trip alone. But one can not judge pizza alone by it's cheese. The crust, sauce, and toppings are all Woohoo as well. If you are short on glassware at home- Dewey's gives you one of their glasses for dining with them on your birthday. Or, you could come to my house and pick up a few. Long live Dewey's!! read more

When Deweys first came to the STL area several years ago (Don't be fooled it is a semi-national chain) the wife and I tried it and HATED it! Looking back on our horrible experience it may have been because the majority of the employees that worked at Dewey's were in fact close friends of ours and I suspect they weren't exactly concerned with taking pride in their work. So, I'm not exactly sure why the wife and I decided to give Dewey's a second chance but we did. First thing we noticed was a long line and after standing in it for 10 minutes we got hip to the fact that you needed to "round the corner" to give the hostess your name to be put on the waiting list, live and learn. We waited an acceptable amount of time that was made all the more fun by watching the throngs on children make faces at the poor kitchen staff and the pretentious young couples complaining about their landscapers inability to cut the lawn in the same pattern as the grass at Busch stadium. This brings me to my second observation... This place is kid central!!!! For a split second we though we stumbled into a Chuckie E. Cheese with all the kids running amok. The breeding grid is strong in K-wood! We were seated and and we looked over the menu, to many foo foo pizza toppings for my liking. I am a toppings purist and I stick to pepperoni and mushroom 98% of the time..this time would be no different. My wife on the other hand isn't like me and decided on some crazy combo with pineapple and other toppings that anyone in their right mind would not order on a pizza. I was really hankering for a micro-brew lager and could not find one on their menu. I don't blame Deweys for this, I blame the craft brewers that take the easy way out by not brewing a decent lager. I am not going to go to in-depth about the Pizza, only that it came out quickly and everything about it was really tasty! I came here to update my review only to find I had never written a review. What?? I like pizza. Everyone who knows me knows this. I wear my love for pizza on my sleeve as well as my butt, thighs, etc. That's hardcore pizza love, people. I have always really liked Deweys. We have never had a bad experience there. We used to always get the Green Lantern and I would swear by it. It's a really good pie. However, I think it has become almost too flavorful? You can tell I am getting old when I stop eating a certain kind of pizza because it's 'too rich'. (However, I am still drinking beer with my pizza, not coffee, so I am not elderly yet. Plus, I went to Dewey's and not Ruby Tuesday and I also still call it Ruby Tuesday not The Ruby Tuesdays but I digress...) So, yes, the Green Lantern. This last time we went, I wanted to try something new. I am sort of weird when it comes to pizza; I have a hard time ordering one that doesn't have red sauce. I always felt like pizza had to have red sauce in order to be pizza. To not have red sauce feels pretty commie to me. I learned something Saturday. Pizza does not have to have red sauce in order to be pizza. And it can even be DELICOUS. Turns out, this is one instance where the communists have it right. Case in point: the Socrates Revenge made with olive oil, minced garlic, mozzarella, Fontina, spinach, black olives, green olives, feta cheese, tomatoes and red onions. Oh my god. My favorite pizza EVER. IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!! Best crust. Best sauce. Best cheese. Best ranch to dip crusts in. Best salads - love the house, but the Harvest seasonal is AH-MA-ZING, even better! Service is ALWAYS good. There have been about 2 times when there was a small mistake on my order, and both I got gift cards to return because they were so apologetic. It wasn't a big deal - nothing could keep me away!! Parking and wait times can be a bit iffy on weekends. I usually go to the Webster location, but this is the one where I started my relationship with Dewey's. The slightly higher prices and waits and anything else all goes by the wayside, because this is the best pizza ever. read more

Dewey's is great for lunch or dinner. The Ellisville Dewey's is my home base, but I went to the Kirkwood Dewey's for lunch today and found them exactly the same. I have tried what feels like everything on the Dewey's menu, so I feel like I could go on and on about all the good choices. Tips on Dewey's for first-timers: -Pizzas are 11" 13" or 17" and can be split half and half. You can sub out one topping for another (say, minus the green peppers and add bacon on the Billy Goat. Hint hint. Try it you'll thank me). The 11" is good for two people, and the 17" is actually more pizza than two elevens and is cheaper. Deal! -Salads are "side" or "regular" and the regular can easily be split between two (they bring you extra plates). -Pizzas are red sauce or white sauce, white being olive oil, minced garlic, mozzarella, and fontina cheeses. Both rock. -They do wine and beer, rotating through a few seasonals. From what I can tell they have Rogue Dead Guy Ale and Guinness on tap year round. The Kung Fu Girl Riesling is delish. -Everything is crazy fresh. This is not pizza hut toppings. Best of the best: -Candied Walnut and Grape Salad: field greens, candied walnuts, red grapes, gorgonzola, and citrus basil vinaigrette. To die for. I challenge you to find a better salad combination! -House Salad: field greens, craisins, pine nuts, goat cheese and creamy balsamic vinaigrette. The Shaved Duck does almost the exact same salad for their house. -Strawberry Macadamia Nut (Summer) and Harvest (Fall), which has figs AND boursin cheese AND applewood smoked bacon (yeah they did that) are both killer. -Green Lantern: red sauce, mozzarella cheese, mushrooms, goat cheese, artichokes, and pesto. The best pizza I have EVER had. -The Caprice, Southwest BBQ, Billy Goat, and Socrates Revenge are my other favorites. They do "team service" so you're certain to have ten people clamoring to refill your drinks. The final word is you really can't go wrong with anything (except the Greek salad, which is yuck) so head on over. read more

I've had Dewey's before and loved their pizza. But this past visit I was underwhelmed. We ordered a 17" togo. I arrived before the pie was ready. So I waited a few minutes until it was finished. Kids everywhere. I'm sure that those that have young ones love this spot. The children get to watch the pies being made and tossed into the air. But for the love of God, please parents, have some courtesy for the other patrons and the wait staff. I felt like I was in a playland. To the food... my pie wasn't all the hot... and I received it straight from the kitchen. I knew something was up when the bottom of the box wasn't hot. Then we got home and it seemed cool. Typically I would not go to a pizza joint that didn't offer gluten free pizza. My Mom/child playgroup got together to have lunch at the Indian restaurant across the street but once we all arrived (6 moms and 6 infants) we discovered it didn't have enough highchairs for all of us. So we skipped across the street to Dewey's Pizza, who had ample highchairs for all the Littles. Two things stick out in my mind about my experience. Point 1 - I was able to have a really good salad. It was the House salad with pine nuts, cranberries, gorgonzola and I added grilled chicken. The server knew all about gluten allergies as well as those in the kitchen. I was very impressed, this being a regular pizza joint. Point 2 - The waitress let me know that if I were to come back and brought my own gluten-free pre-made crust they were more than willing to put their toppings on it and heat it in the oven! I may just have to try that, some of their pizza combos looked really good. read more

I generally like Dewey's pizza. Even though this was my first visit to this location it most certainly wasn't my first experience with their product. I went with the boss. He is generally interested in food that I would characterize as being on the 'bland' end of the spectrum. I decided to just go with whatever he ordered for my half as well and wound up with the meatball pizza. The flavors were pretty good but a bit on delicate side although I did like the quartered meatballs quite a bit. Overall, it was pretty good...especially with a few hearty shakes of the red pepper flakes and parmesean adorning each piece. I especially like the slight sweetness on the edge of their crust. It is like a happy ending to each piece. Not surprising for a Dewey's location but the service was great! They were so attentive that I even forgave one of the wife's cardinal sins - the signed check grab before we left. I just wish I could bottle whatever they have for a training program and douse other restaurants with their magic elixir. read more

Met a friend here last night and ate DP for the first time. Very crowded but a beautiful interior. Pizza and ingredients made/shipped in fresh daily, so there aren't even storage freezers in the place! Pizza was excellent NY style. We got the Bronx Bomber (I think it was Bronx... anyway only pie with 'Bomber' in the name) and it was quite good! Servers were attentive and never had to wait long for a refill. So why didn't it make the High Five? A little pricier than I'm used to for a 13" pie and, while everyone was very friendly, there is definitely the air of 'keep rotating fresh meat for the seats' from the staff and I did feel a bit rushed. Simply the best Pizza in St. Louis, imho. Not the Imo's kind either. Their crust is "traditional", neither Chicago thick nor St. Louis thin, most similar to New York style. They prepare them right in front of the waiting area, so you know there is no monkey business in the kichen,and if you have kids it can keep them entertained during your wait for a table. If you go at usual dinner hours, be prepared for at least 45 minutes wait time. My favorite is the meatball pizza. They have all kinds of specialty pizzas based on 2 (or 3?) sauces which can be spiced differently depending upon the style of pizza. For instance, the aforementioned meatball pizza adds basil. They are also happy to go 1/2 and 1/2, on 1 pie for instance 1/2 meatball 1/2 BBQ chicken. A tip for 2 if you want a salad, instead of ordering 2 small salads, order 1 regular and 2 plates. The regular size is more than enough for 2, perhaps even just right as a pre-pizza appetizer for 3. Another tip, don't go there if you don't want pizza, their other menu choices are limited at best. They do serve beer, wine, and some mixed drinks but I would not call it a full bar. Overall, prices are California Pizza Kitchen like...high for Pizza but not high for a meal. Service is great, they employ a team serving system. If anyone walks by your table and sees you low on a drink, or with some extra plates, or whatever you can expect them to stop and take care of you. Somehow, they manage to do this without being too intrusive. Bravo! There is a location in U City as well, we've been to both and they were equally pleasing and almost identical in layout, food, and service. 5 stars for Pizza (which is not the same as 5 stars for all restaurants) read more

Best pizza in St. Louis! This is our go-to pizza place. Our favorites are the meatball (wih extra meatballs) and the Dr. Dre pizza (ranch sauce, bacon, jalapeños, tomatoes, onions and some other delicious stuff). They have that really watery ranch that you love to dip everything in. I have also had their calzones, which are also scrumptious. The salads are fresh and they have wonderful selections. They have great seasonal salads, our favorite is the harvest fig but I had the blueberry almond last night and it was really good. Our favorite on the regular menu is the bacon ranch. The staff has always been wonderful. When getting carry out last night, a staff member walked out to the car with my husband (about a block away) without him even asking. She quickly turned around and left before my husband could tip her. The only drawbacks are that they are so good and popular, you will always have at least a little wait to be seated. Also, I wish they had more app type choices on their menu, I would totally spend an extra $10-12 a meal to eat more of their delicious offerings. Dewey's is a must-try in St. Louis! read more

This place. Whoa. Great f*cking pizza and great selection for meat and non-meat lovers. Went in for a going away lunch deal for a co-worker, and I was pleasantly surprised. I only wish it were closer to the home front. The food was great - the pizzas....I couldn't begin to decide which ones to try. They have one that is solely for mushroom lovers - believe it has 3-4 different types of shrooms on it. Whoa! The Edgar Allen Poe was amazing. They also have clever names for their pizzas, which is a good time in itself. In addition - the salads are pretty darn amazing as well. Great beer selection on tap. Great service and atmosphere. Quick for carry out - unfortunately no delivery, but we can't have it all now can we? If in or around Kirkwood and looking for something simple yet delicious - pop in and give Dewey's a shot. I really hate to leave this review, but I just think it's important to share. I WANTED to like this restaurant. I drive through DT Kirkwood a lot, and each time I drive through I think, "I gotta try Deweys..." Fast forward. We go in and the place smells GREAT! All kinds of aromatic scents in the air. The pizzas on the tables being enjoyed by various groups looked AWESOME! So I ordered the Socrates and stepped over to watch the big "Pizza Making Show" behind me. If you've been to Deweys, you know what I mean, but for those who don't... At Dewey's there's a big window where you can look in and watch the guys making your pizza. That's where the problem started. Some guys were wearing NO gloves. Others were wearing just one glove. That would NOT have been a problem because I know that not all cooks wear gloves. Except at one point, one the guys scratched his nose...and then went back to making the pizza. Same hands. Nose goo. On the pizza. So gross... Another issue, I watched as one guy CONSTANTLY wiped his hands on his butt. Really? Isn't what what towels are for? Another guy, couldn't seem to keep his hands out of his hair. Then he would go back to making the pizza. I know someone will counter with, "Well they probably do it at Pizza Place A, and Pizza Place B. You just don't see it. Besides, the oven will burn off the nose goo." Well, you know what, I can't speak to "probably." But I can speak to what I saw DEFINITELY at Dewey's. If it doesn't bother you, then you may be good there. I did try the pizza since I saw that nothing particularly gross had occurred during the making of it. And the taste of the pizza was fair. Been here about 4 times for lunch. I've had the peppercorn ranch salad and the Greek salad. Prefer the former. Others at the table have had the Caesar and the House salads and enjoyed. We usually, with a table of 4, split two pizzas, 17" size. My half has been: Bronx Bomber: red sauce, mozzarella, pepperoni, sausage, onions, mushrooms, green pepper, black olives Edgar Allen Poe: olive oil, mozzarella-fontina, mushrooms, roasted garlic, kalamata olives, goat cheese, fresh tomatoes, parsley Socrates Revenge: olive oil, minced garlic, mozzarella-fontina, black olives, spinach, green olives, feta, red onions, tomatoes Other halves have been: Killer Vegetable: red sauce, mozzarella, mushrooms, onions,black olives, green peppers, fresh tomatos, parsley Made-up for our vegetarian friend. All pizzas have been readily enjoyed and devoured. Sometimes I can eat just one piece of pizza, after the salad (small). But leftovers are always welcomed! And we've always been well-hydrated. I met my parents here for lunch. It's pretty small inside and gets crowded, which might explain why they were so eager to take our plates when we were barely done eating... but I'm sure it's also due to being extremely efficient because they kept refilling my Dad's rootbeer everytime it got kindof low. Like... almost 4 times... I'm glad he finally said "no thank you!" as that's a crapload of pop for a 45 minute lunch. So- there was a guy there- seemed like a manager but walked around seeing if people needed anything. His service was out of this world great. He deserves 5 stars. The restaurant was very clean. The salads were very good. I enjoyed the Peppercorn ranch. Nothing extraordinary, but the dressing and bacon pieces were very good. My mom ADORED the harvest salad. She couldn't get over how great the dressing was and how creamy the cheese was. But as for the pizza (which is why I'm giving it 3 stars) - it was okay. I had the caprice, which is white sauce, white cheese, garlic, tomato. It just tasted kindof bland to me. I added some parmesean because the tomatoes made it kindof watery- and with the addition of salt, it was better. But still- for the amount that people love Deweys pizza (and this being the 2nd time I've tried it), I'm a bit sad to not get the hype... Perhaps I just need to try another pizza. FYI- My mom had a veggie pizza and added salt to hers, but didn't seem impressed. Dewey's is an out of town chain that feels like a local establishment. Of course, if it was local, it would probably have Provel cheese, wouldn't it? (they don't.) Quality seems to be a focus with Dewey's pizza. We've only been once, but it was evident that all the ingredients were very fresh and the crust was just about perfect. From a recipe standpoint, I guess this pizza is pretty standard, but from an execution standpoint, they've really got it goin on here. Dewey's has two other locations (at least) - one in U City and one in Webster Groves. I've only been by the other two, but they both look like cool spots, definitely in some of my favorite neighborhoods, so props to the real estate guy. read more

Dewey's pizza is personal to people STL, especially residents of Kirkwood and Glendale (where two of their locations are). I personally feel hat if you are a local, I am curious why you are looking on yelp at these reviews?? I don't know, I guess if you haven't been you could look at these reviews...to each his own... Anyway, be prepared to wait for a little while as the restaurant cannot hold everyone who wants to eat out at Dewey's all at once, but while you wait you can watch the chefs make pizza. The atmosphere is nice rustic, cozy, and industrial all at the same time. On one side of the restaurant is the kitchen, the other side windows overlooking Kirkwood Road. You can walk from here to anywhere in downtown Kirkwood. Servers are always very kind and have a lot of knowledge of the menu. Overall a local favorite that can be enjoyed by anyone (no matter where you are from!) read more

It's true.....Dewey's is amazing, but it wasn't always. So my first encounter with Dewey's left a not so good taste in my mouth. So we went on a friday night....(bad idea)....everybody and their mama was there so they told us it would be a 45 min wait! Derrick and I decided to order our pizza to go....(another bad idea)...and just eat it at home. We ordered two pizzas and two harvest salads. We zoomed home and our pizza was already cold. I knew that the sole reason it was bad was because we ordered it to go. Fast forward to today....Tuesday night to be exact.....we had to wait 20 min...but boy oh boy was the pizza dynamite. Dewey's is, in my honest opinion, the best pizza in the St. Louis metro area. The boyfriend and I have been working through the pizza purveyors in the area. We stopped into Dewey's in Kirkwood last weekend. We split a salad (the ranch salad) and a meatball pizza. Both were excellent and we got a large enough pizza so we would have left overs. The crust was New York style (a favorite) and was crusty and perfectly cooked. They used just the right amount of sauce and cheese, not too much so that it's falling off the crust, but not too dry. The meatballs were delicious and there were plenty of them on every slice. It was so good, we enjoyed it for lunch an dinner the next day without getting tired of it. read more

Great salad! Dewey's doesn't make the typical greek salad. It's got this awesome red pepper sauce on it instead of salad dressing. They also use premium kalamata olives and lots of fresh roasted garlic. Their pizzas were pretty decent too! There was one that is basically a buffalo chicken wing bar food with blue cheese and celery meal (but all sliced-up thin so that you can eat them on a pizza). I haven't tried a salad like it, so I'd easily return again just for that. read more

I read some reviews of Dewey's and was excited to try it out. Went in during lunch while the place was relatively busy. The service was great! Waitress was attentive, and stayed on top of drink refills. Menu is pretty extensive with a bunch of interesting choices for pizza toppings (pine nuts, anyone?) As for my meal though, I would best describe it as "meh". Quality wise, it tasted alright. It just felt like a very average pizza for what I paid (around $17 before tip). I ordered mine with one of the premium toppings, meatballs, and barely got any on the pizza. I was also kind of sad they only offered one style of crust, and no provel cheese option. This place runs like a well oiled machine. Jon and I walked in last night at around 7:45 for dinner. We were told there would be a 10-20 minute wait (we were fine with that), and literally 10 minutes later, we were seated at a table and our drink orders had been taken. To start, we ordered a Peppercorn Ranch salad to share. YUM! The lettuce was cold and crisp, the bacon was cooked perfectly and generously crumbled all over the salad, and it was tossed in just the right amount of dressing. For dinner, we shared a 17 inch pizza. I decided to order just cheese on my half (boring, I know), and Jon got Jalapeno peppers, pineapple, and bacon on his half. I wanted plain cheese to see how the backbone of the pizza tastes, and it was great! Now I know that I can add as many topping as I want the next time we venture into Kirkwood. Our server was super nice and very attentive! Our drinks never ran dry and our salad plates were cleared in plenty of time for our pizza to be delivered to the table. For a large salad, a 17 inch pizza, and a Diet Coke, the entire total was only $28.00. That's a bargain if you ask me. We'll definitely be back! read more

I wish I hadn't waited so long to dine at Deweys because I had such a great experience. Decor- Modern without being overdone. Inviting place with plenty of room for large and small groups. Booths on the side and tables in the middle. Big window which looks in on the kitchen so you can watch the pizza being created if you are waiting. They also do quite a bit of carryout business so watch yourself it you are standing by the hosting area. Boxes are flying in and out. Food: My date and I failed to agree but thankfully were told Dewey's can make any pizza a half n' half. We ordered a large seasonal (sorry I've forgotten what it was) and the Dr. Dre minus the red onion. Sampled both and the pizza was fresh tasting and cooked perfectly. I like a high ratio of cheese/toppings to sauce so my pizza was perfect. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful. She didn't flinch at the substitutions and made sure we knew what was seasonal and on special. I will be back. read more

Now I never really hang out in downtown Kirkwood because I have never really had a reason to go there for anything, a couple of days ago though, I did find myself there. I was meeting up with some friends out there for lunch since that was the closest thing to being in the middle that we could agree on; we went to Dewey's Pizza. So I've been to the other Dewey's Pizza over in University City. Both are great places, but they have somewhat of a difference in atmosphere from one another. The Kirkwood Dewey's seems to have a mixture of a family restaurant element mixed in with it. I guess that would be appropriate because, it is geared towards families and such. Dewey's might be small, but the place is packed with flair and attitude. The pizza, no question is delicious. The Kirkwood Locations is most def teeny tiny and on a Friday night the 30 minute wait time is WELL worth the wait. We opted for one pizza (medium) and we even got crazy with a half and half. Half Billy Goat and half Southwest BBQ Chicken. It was out of this word! SW BQQ Chicken was tender slices of white meat chicken charred nicely and place on top of a pizza with corn, black beans a little Monterrey jack cheese and tangy/sweet BBQ sauce. Billy Goat, a "white sauce" which is garlic and olive oil joined goat cheese and peppers for a tasty finish. At the end we splurged on some super awesome carrot cake!!! go for it! read more
