My husband and I love Dodo Bird! We have been here almost 10 times and it's always a vibe! You wouldn't think the inside is as cute as it is from the outside but I promise you it's great! I like coming here around dinner time - the lights and the ambiance are just perfect. They recently switched out their menu but still had their hot chicken sandwich which is one of my favorites! SO good and not too spicy but has lots of flavor. Get it with a side of ranch if you like that. Drinks are always yummy and crafted to perfection. I love that Dodo is fancier but not so fancy that you can't come casual. The darts and games in the back are always a good time. They are always out of our favorites on the menu, especially when having deals, (oysters). We went for brunch last Sunday and while sitting at our table eating our meal a homeless man approached us table side and asked for money and then proceeded to ask guest by the door as well. This was hands-down the worst food experience I've had in Scottsdale in over a decade. Cons: Food 1. The appetizer arrived cold and had to be sent back. 2. The main dish was equally disappointing: the fries were cold, and the burger was a sad excuse for a sandwich--hardly anything on it besides the patty. 3. The so-called "sausage appetizer" turned out to be just a sausage patty slapped on a piece of toast. 4. The background noise--basketballs constantly bouncing--made it hard to relax. 5. Our friends were also dissatisfied. Their "wings" came with barely any sides--just two sad little pieces of celery and carrots. 6. The seating arrangement was chaotic. A table of four was split into two awkwardly close tables. We ended up uncomfortably close to strangers, the first of whom were practically breathing down our necks until they moved, and the second couple was also complaining about their food. Pros: Great drinks, service was great. The hiring of staff was good but the food was not even on the baseline of what is in the Scottsdale for restaurants. Which is odd because my expectations were at least for the food to look like the food from from the photos on IG and Yelp. And if you're wondering why I put cons first, it's because I paid close to $200 still for this meal, this is not a review of the drinks or service but of the food. It comes with fries, we had a baby with us which was hard to accommodate but they gave us seating at their couches to accommodate as best they could so that was a great service point! And the ambiance was super chill and vibey we would definitely come again! Not to mention the owner came out and spoke to us making us feel welcomed and learning it was a local restaurant! I started with Cauliflower KFC which has a light crispy batter, drizzled with buffalo and blue cheese dressing topped with shaved carrots and celery and it was the best I've had. I stole some of the shishito peppers from my husband's plate and was blown away by the flavors- I wasn't expecting soy sauce and bonito flakes but it added umami and really worked. It changed my mind about shishito peppers. I had a Nashville hot chicken sandwich, and the quality of meat was excellent. This is not bloated, brined and pounded flat chicken; it's meaty and juicy. The waffle fries were soft on the inside, crispy on the outside. For dessert, we had the fried ice cream, and it was not like Chi-chi's for those who remember Light flaky batter, with berries. The food has balance, so do the drinks. My favorite was the Carf, which came with a dried pineapple slice and candied ginger. Scottsdale Moms Club was really light and refreshing, and Matcha Made in Heaven was unique with lemongrass and cucumber balancing it perfectly for sipping. We played some games, the shuffle board-esque game was fun and I hadn't seen it before. The service was great, it did not seem like a restaurant that had just opened. What an experience- I've lived within a mile of the place for years. Came in shortly after they launched- absolutely gorgeous! They did an excellent job with the aesthetics. The manager, Jayme- very hands on, personable, very helpful. Steaks were perfect, and the recommendation to get the sweet potato fries- YES. Best I've ever had. I came to dodo bird today to check out Wing Wednesday and Jenny was the bartender and she is great. I ordered one of each of the flavors which was six wings each for each one of the flavors. The drink specials were good because they were unhappy hour and the wings came out amazing. I also learned they have a Monday night New York steak and fries for $20 which is a pretty good deal. All the food that came out of the kitchen that I saw looked really good and smelled amazing. Wednesday 50 cent wings at dodo bird are my new thing. The buffalo double fried wing is delicious. Sweet potato fries, delicious. The fried cauliflower, delicious! Inside is so fun. They have tv's to watch sports but also have basketball, connect 4 and some shuffleboard thing so I can beat my boyfriend in some games and eat good.
