The French toast was made with thin cheap bread with resulted with it being soggy. The breakfast burrito was all potatoes including some weird purple pieces even though the potatoes weren't purple. I like Dodobird but they go crazy with the up charges and don't give you any warnings... During our last experience at Dodobird, they charged me once for a soda water with free refills (like every other restaurant does) and there was no up charge to sub fries for broccolini on the steak frites. This time around, they literally charged me every time I ordered a refill on soda water with no warning at all and charged $7 to sub broccolini. We would have just appreciated a warning on the no free refills or the significant up charges. There needs to be consistency with what you charge guests. Not to mention there was also a 3% restaurant service fee. We left with a bad taste in our mouth. read more

First off this was a blind pick after arriving in Scottsdale. Pulling up to this place in a strip mall both me and my wife were a little hesitant. But as soon as we opened the door, we were very pleasantly surprised. It had a great vibe just walking through the door. Medium low lit, music pumping(but not too loud), beautiful decors throughout. We were seated ordered a couple of the specialty drinks. Both were delicious and beautiful. Our server, I wish I remembered her name was out of this world. Very friendly and knowledgeable, she just fit into the environment . We proceeded forward with wings(which wing Wednesday 6 for $4), bulgogi bao buns, and steak frites. All were fantastic. The only criticism is that though the bao buns were delicious, they did not fully check on the contents and each of the three had a big piece of gristle mixed among the meat. Either way we're only on day two of our 6 day trip and we've already considered making a second appearance here. So far the best place we've ate at(and we're already at half a dozen spots). Upon hearing rave reviews from my family about this place I chose to have my birthday dinner here last night. It was a miss for me, and here is why... Ordered a soda - it was a can. A $4 can of soda. How does a restaurant with a full bar only have canned soda? Took advantage of it being wing Wednesday - we had a party of 8, 7 out of 8 ordered wings. None of the wings arrived at the same time. 2 people were done eating by the time the others received their food. I HATE that. Our server brought out the butter cake for my birthday - super sweet of her and it was delicious. I wanted to try the tomahawk but can't justify spending $100 for a steak and having to listen to people playing basketball in the game portion of the restaurant. We sat at the bar and it was a fun vibe with a good size crowd in the afternoon. The place has a solid feel and the dirty martini was fantastic! We then had the cauliflower kfc and I am definitely a carnivore but it was really good and my wife loved it. I had the adult happy meal with wagyu smash burger and it was phenomenal! While we decided where we wanted to go instead, the floor manager came outside and told us she would get a table ready for us in 20-25 minutes if we wanted to get some drinks and wait in the game area. She clearly wanted our business and was willing to accommodate us to do so, which was above and beyond. We ordered drinks, and like she said, had us seated within the timeframe. We were able to order appetizers and entrees quickly and the food was great! I personally got the wagyu American burger which was delicious. I also was able to try the tuna bites and dumplings which were very tasty. The tuna bites I preferred over the dumplings. The service the whole time was phenomenal from the manager accommodating us to get seated as soon as possible, to the servers who took our orders and delivered our food. This place has been on my list and finally got around to trying it on NYE. We had a reservation and were immediately seated. It's in a strip mall, so away from the craziness of Old Town Scottsdale BUT as soon as you walk in, it's still giving great vibes. Dined here tonight and I'm blown away by the experience. The steak and frites and craft cocktail was absolutely fantastic, but the hospitality is what truly stands out. When I arrived, I was immediately treated with enthusiasm. After being seated, I was surprised to find my table marked with a birthday card and a drink coupon. For starters, I heard about this $20 steak frites on insta gram and thought wow, What a great deal! I was sorely mistaken. My steak originally came out cold, and for the first time ever I tried to send it back, little did I know that was a bad idea. They just put my steak back on the grill and over cooked it. The server noticed I was unhappy and asked if I wanted them too cook another one completely and i didnt want to be that guy but I agreed. I ordered it medium rare and the second steak (3rd time I was served) was severely undercooked and filled with fat. I would like to say my girlfriend's burger was truly amazing and worth going back for but I wouldn't recommend a steak. Most of the reviews that are bad are about the steak and how it only has fat and barely any meat. The server was also very sweet and apologetic about it but not much she can do, the GM that by the was gave me a totally half hearted walk by apology is the one I actually blame for the whole ordeal. He was not professional and basically ignored me and the table next to me that also sent there steak back for the same reason. All in all unless you're looking for a good burger in a dimly lit cathedral vibe I wouldn't come here. Just go to rt Sullivans! I've visited Dodo Bird Kitchen and Cocktails three times now, and I genuinely love the aesthetic and the overall vibe of this place, it's fantastic and deserves all the praise. Unfortunately, I have to flag a significant issue: this restaurant definitely struggles with kitchen consistency. Visit 1 (5 Stars!): My first experience was absolutely phenomenal. We ordered the Dumplings, the impressive Tomahawk for Two, and the sides were the simple greens salad, charred broccolini, almost forgot to mention the chimichurri sauce (accompanies the steak), and the fresh cut fries (y'all know how I feel about fresh cut fries). Everything was absolutely delicious! This meal truly set a high bar. Visits 2 and 3 (Major Dip): My next two visits were a letdown. On the second trip, I tried the Nashville Chicken Sandwich. It was not my cup of tea; it lacked the expected Nashville flavor and just tasted like a generic, non-Nashville sandwich. Worse, the fries were noticeably undercooked. On the third visit, I ordered the wings, and the flavor issue persisted, there was no real taste to the wings or the accompanying sauce. And shockingly, I had to send the fries back again because they were undercooked, just like the time before. The Verdict: Dodo Bird has tremendous potential because the ambiance is top-notch and the kitchen has proven it can produce incredible food (hello, Tomahawk!). However, repeating the same quality issues across different dishes and failing on a simple side like fries twice suggests a real problem with execution standards. Delicious! A must stop! Highly recommend. The drinks are fantastic and very unique. While the food is so yummy. I heard their burgers are phenomenal (I will get that next time). This time I got the tomahawk steak...so good and comes with two special sauces. I used both! It's also paired with greens and fries. They are known for their butter cake....wow, makes my mouth water. Had a perfect crust on the bottom. Topped with ice cream and whipped cream. The service was extremely upbeat and answered any question I had. The ambiance is shocking, as it's in a little plaza but once you go inside you're transformed to a cute restaurant that's aesthetically pleasing! It's got roomie tables that's half a booth and half normal seating. The bar was very specious and offer side seating. Two of my friends had the fried chicken and they said it was amazing and they would come back just for that. They did agree on the other small plates that it was not that good. I usually love dodo bird, I stopped in today for bite to eat when I was running errands around the end of happy hour because I live on cusp of old town and and south Scottsdale. I've lived in this neighborhood for near 13 years. The ambience was great, quiet and chill like usual. I sat on the bar and asked the bartender if they took Apple Pay he said yes , that answered my question. He handed me a food menu without handing me a drink menu , which was fine because I ordered an ice tea. When he came back I ordered Parmesan truffle fries he immediately asked if I wanted them to go which seemed weird because I just ordered an ice tea which had not come yet, I said no I wanted them for here. My fries came and someone walked over with my iced tea. Which was weird because I didn't get a water immediately either. He asked if I was ok more times than usual, I finished my fries and my iced tea and he asked if I wanted anything else. I said I wanted another iced tea which he replied would be another five dollars so I got another water relaxed for minute and then got my check. The whole experience seemed a little rushed and rude. I definitely didn't look disheveled and I wanted something to eat before I went over to cvs and walked home. The fries were good and so was the iced tea. I had been wanting to try this place since it opened, and finally got down there. We didn't have reservations, so we ended up sitting at the bar, which is fine. There were several large (8+) parties--and I do mean parties. One table had party favors, another had a birthday crown and sash wearer. I really love the color scheme with lots of velvet and lots of green. There are dodo birds painted in the wall and a cool "nest" lighting fixtures with birds and eggs in it. Love the funky tv-head mural! There are some games in one room, and a wall of frames down the hallway. I am not a fan of the plant panel that all restaurants seem to have these days, but I like the rest. Son ordered a beer and I ordered an iced tea. There was no tea made, and I was told it would take about five minutes. We ordered the all American Burger and the Chilequiles, planning to share half and half. The burger was good--nothing spectacular, but good. It had cheese and pickles and two patties. I asked for a side of ranch dressing, and it was really good ranch dressing. The Chilequiles, however, were fantastic!!! I never got my iced tea. The bartender said she would check on it, but by that time I was done eating. All in all, I liked Dodo Bird. Saw this place on Instagram and knew we had to come soon to check it out, and it did not disappoint! My husband and I came for dinner and it was a really cool modern chic vibe with so many dodo bird decorations, just like its namesake. I will say that the menu isn't crazy vast, this is more of a cocktail/pre-game place but does have good burgers, chicken sandwiches and a few more options to quench your hunger. We had the chili dumplings as appetizers - they were decent, I mean I've definitely had better ones. But they were a good option for a snack. The star of the show was definitely the Nashville Hot Chicken Sammy - I legit looked this up before I came and knew this was what I wanted. And it was AMAZING! Absolutely loved it. The chicken was a really large piece, super crispy and delicious. If I had one thing I'd improve, it would be to add more coleslaw. I'm not sure if I just happened to get less in mine (I saw the table next to us someone had ordered it and they had more coleslaw than me) or what. Another thing that I'd improve was the service - though our server was very friendly and nice, it took a very long time for us to get our order taken, and the server only came by once after a very long time to see if we needed anything. Yes it was busy but we actually spotted our server just sitting down and chatting with the bartender a few times. We actually had to flag a couple of other servers twice before ours came. So I do think that could be improved. I definitely recommend making a reservation before coming, and I'll definitely be back for some drinks and more chicken sandwiches! read more

Ended the night here at Dodo's last Tuesday night after hopping around from 3 other places. It was an hour before closing so there were some people at the bar still. Chatted with some familiar faces and met new ones. By the time we arrived here, I was already full so I only ordered the Expresso Not Expresso Martini. I did have a couple of bites of someone's All-American Smashburger and a few waffles fries. The burger was simple but delicious and flavorful! I wish I wasn't so full at the time so that I could get my own burger. I definitely want to try each burger on the menu, especially the Wellington Burger. The waffle fries were crispy and cooked perfectly. The Expresso Martini was good! I've had it both with and without Baileys. I prefer it with Baileys. They added salt on top last time too and that paired well with the drink. I've been in a few times before already in the past. Was also in about 2.5 weeks ago with a few friends and they loved their drinks as well. Met a few bartenders, the manager and cooks. They were all friendly! The place has a nice vibe that definitely adds value to this plaza. It is the nicest looking place you'll find in the plaza. Located in an unassuming strip mall, this restaurant is super cute and trendy. When you walk in there is a lively ambiance with good music, cute furniture and even a basketball hoop. Went here on Sunday for reverse happy house and got 2 espresso martinis which were delicious. Not super sweat which I really liked. I also got the crispy tuna from the happy hour menu. Also delicious. The chicken sandwich was moist and I would order it again! The side of fries pictured however was $9 for less than 10 fries. I took off a star because on my bill I was charged 1 happy hour espresso martini and 1 full price and a single small side of ranch was $2. I had an awesome time here the other night. They have an incredible happy hour menu and the decor is beautiful, bright and colorful with lots of greenery. There is also lots of parking available in this plaza which is SOOO CONVENIENT!!!!!! They also have a few free games and darts (which is not free). I decided to try the espresso martini and frozen margarita. They were both good. For food I ordered the mac and cheese and Chicago sausage. The portions they served here for happy hour were very generous, and I didn't end up ordering an entree since everything else was so filling. This place was horrible We came here because of a review... big mistake. There are FAR better spots to get a burger. Fries with cheese and bacon? Fires limp. They have games but it's very limited and they were almost always being used. Play when you can! Seating area isn't huge, but it's sure aesthetically pleasing. I didn't realize they only do brunch until 3 on weekends, there was barely anything I could order. I ordered a chicken Caesar that was incredibly underwhelming, the dressing looked more like a vinaigrette. Chicken tasted good but there wasn't much of it for it being a $16 salad. I really wanted to love this place. The decor is stunning, the food was truly delicious, and the overall vibe is spot-on. The DJ at Sunday brunch was a bit loud for my taste but that wasn't a deal breaker. On food and atmosphere alone, this would've been an easy 5 stars. Unfortunately, the service was such a letdown that it overshadowed everything else. I recognized the name of our server right away because I'd read several glowing reviews that mentioned her by name. Maybe we caught her on an off day, but the experience we had just didn't match what others described. She wasn't warm or engaging - no smile, no effort to connect - and service was painfully slow, despite the restaurant being fairly empty when we first arrived (more crowded by the time we left). We ordered a coffee along with our brunch, but it never came. When our food finally arrived (brought by someone else), we had to ask again about it. Two people were behind the bar the whole time, chatting with each other, seemingly unaware we were waiting for a coffee. When our server eventually brought a cup with a lid, there was no apology. I lifted the lid to find out that the cup was completely empty. How that went unnoticed (both based on the weight of an empty cup vs a full one, and the fact that a cup full of coffee would be warm, not cold) is beyond me. She didn't return for a while, but another lady saw us trying to get her attention and helped us. She may have been a manager, and she was very friendly and pleasant. By then we were almost done eating and were going to forego the coffee, but she did comp it and immediately brought us a coffee (which, just like the food, was delicious). Unfortunately, the service issues didn't end there. When the check came (again, no smile), it had an extra brunch dish added in error. Our server corrected it when asked, but again, no apology. It's a real shame, because this is the kind of place I'd love to return to. The food and atmosphere are wonderful. But with service this disappointing, it's hard to justify coming back. read more
