Doe Donuts is one of my favorites in Portland. They are completely vegan and offers a rotating selection of donuts every month. The classics include Portland Fog and Tiramisu which you should not miss out on. I actually think they tend to be a slightly oilier than a normal donut, which is why I took off a star. Yes, you'll gonuts for these vegan donuts. I certainly did. And like so many other reviews have said, you can't tell they're vegan at all. But beyond that, they're some of the best donuts I've had altogether - moo-infused or not! Most of the donuts are the traditional raised type which gives them a layered, almost "dense croissant-ness" to them that is incredible. Their seasonal selections change out frequently so there are always new things to try. I started out with four: Blackberry Pistachio, French Toast, Lingonberry Sufganiyot and a Masala Chai Pear Fritter. They have multiple seasonal flavors and then their classics. We get donuts every few months. I am never disappointed with my experience. This donut store is around the corner from the Hollywood theater. There are some 30 minute spots on the same block which helps greatly with accessibility. It is a small space that packs a big punch. Everything from vegan donuts to ice cream is available. We hand picked a half dozen donuts. First was the Portland fog. Not sure what the hype is about with this one. The whipped cream completely overpowers the Earl gray flavor. The tiramisu was originally really tasty but the cinnamon powder on top is so heavy that I aspirated it a few times and had a coughing fit. It was a mini cinnamon challenge of sorts. The doe looks really pleasant with the pink glaze and confetti. Nice fluffy texture. Not too sweet and good balance. French toast was pretty good but a little too sweet. Favorite so far was the classic salted vanilla bean. It was wonderfully sweet and savory with some caramelization on top. You could see some small specks of vanilla imbedded in the donut. Second best donut was the bacon maple old fashioned. The baked, salty coconut shreds on top mimicked bacon perfectly. There was a nice even chocolate coating. The cakey texture complimented the rest of the donut very well. Overall very enjoyable donuts especially for being vegan. Fun seasonal options. Decent pricing. read more

One of my friends recommended checking this place out as her coworker LOOOVED it. Surprised I never heard of this place even from my local friends on my last trip to Portland. But I'm soooo glad I did on this trip! It's located on NE Broadway in Rose City Park. There's only residential street parking around the area. We didn't think it would be busy but there was actually a line outside the door of the shop! We waited about 30 min and luckily, there was shade to wait under. There are also tables outside the shop for customers to enjoy their donuts and ice cream! This cute shop has seasonal every two month flavors. It just happened to be the last day of their seasonal flavors on the day my friends and I went. Barely missed it but wished we were there on day 1 of the new flavors LOL. At first, we thought the shop only sold their seasonal flavors, but they also had their daily flavors! I got four donuts, two dailies and two seasonal: Portland Fog, Tiramisu, Peaches n Cream, and Zucchini Chip. Booooy, were the donuts delicious! All but the zucchini chip had a fluffy, soft texture. It was a donut I've never had before! If I had to describe them, the texture was almost in between bread and cake. Each one of them wasn't uberly sweet either! With the amount of filling they had, not too sweet at all. Just what I liked! My personal favorite is definitely the Portland Fog which was an earl grey tea donut! Definitely could taste the earl grey but wasn't overpowering at all. My second favorite is their Tiramisu. Definitely a nice, strong tiramisu flavor with the cream giving majority of its flavor. Like cakes, the donut was really powdery, so it got all over everyone's clothes (and even inside a friend's bag) LOL. The peaches n cream had a lot of cream inside which was mildly sweet with peaches to give the donut a boost of sweetness. The zucchini chip was actually denser than the other three donuts. Sweet chocolate flavor but the denseness really pulled me away from it compared to the other donuts. A highly recommended shop to check out if you're in town and love donuts! Not your typical overly sweet, dense donuts at all. And the fact that everything is vegan?! Definitely a gem! So, first things first, the idea of this place: five stars. The donuts: four. As vegan donuts go: five! Lovely! But I'm writing this standing outside, on a 34° day (and that's Fahrenheit, kids, which for Portland is ... cold. There are warming shelters open.) Why am I standing outside? Glad you asked. It was just explained to us that there's a four person limit in the lobby -- fine, policies be what they may, but the purpose of this limit? Glad you asked again! Vegan donuts, never tried them until recently at Doe Donuts. Come early for the best selection as I came around 7pm and it was limited but good enough. I was able to try a cereal milk twist, ube, banana split, snickerdoodle, marionberry, blackberry shortcake, and a veggie calzone (not a donut). Someone's eyes were bigger than his stomach. After a few bites of each, my favorite of these was the banana split and I ate most of that one. Perhaps it was the chocolate chips on top that provided an extra crunch and texture. I must say that I was surprised at how much Doe Donuts tasted like real donuts and that Doe Donuts provided unique flavors too. A suggestion would be if Doe Donuts can make an original flavored donut, no frills or thrills, just basic. Doe Donuts also sells vegan ice cream so I opted for a scoop of strawberry balsamic, which tasted pretty good the first half, but later it melted before I finished. Now that I've tried vegan ice cream, I'm good. Street parking only and can be challenging. Only 4 people are allowed at once. Thanks to Somebody Feed Phil, a show on Netflix, I saw this donut shop and hoped I would be able to make it here during my quick visit to Portland. I have never had a vegan donut; I wouldn't even know they were vegan, since the texture and taste is just as delicious than any other donut I've had. I think the flavors are what really makes this place stand out. I selected two seasonal flavors for May 2022 (Pineapple Guava Fritter & Sour Yuzu Green Tea) and one of their classic flavors (Portland Fog). I thought the Portland Fog with an Earl Grey glaze would be my favorite of the three, but turns out the Yuzu Green Tea was unexpectedly the winner for me. I typically don't love sour/tart desserts, but the flavor of the yuzu was so distinct and went well with the green tea. Tip (that may be obvious to most people, but in case you're like me and tend to gobble your food down): I realized I was devouring the donuts way to fast, so then I paused, and changed the way I was eating...I let the glaze of the donut melt on my tongue (instead of chomp, chomp, chomping) and that's when I truly appreciated the unique and different flavors available at Doe Donuts. Downside of not being 24/7 like Voodoo. It's tiny, no seating, but there's some outside in the public area. Service is never amazing but it's always serviceable. We arrived at 2 pm on a Sunday = the moment when even the most productive doughnut shop tends to run out of their most popular items. We fortunately managed to snag the very last Peaches and Cream. While the line was lengthy (about 20 ppl deep), it moved quickly. We waited outside for about 10 minutes total, and it was sunny, so no complaints. Currently they are allowing 4 ppl total in the shop in continued deference to COVID protocols - the wait time is impressive under these circumstances. On to the doughnuts themselves: we eat with our eyes first, and these are gorgeous. The swoops of whipped cream, the artful scattering of toppings, the delicate slices of peaches perched inside the cream donuts. Pretty pretty. Nothing is overly sweet (my beef with some of Doe's Portland peers), and the texture of the raised doughnuts is fantastic - especially for a vegan product that is using none of the classic ingredients for enriching a yeasted dough (butter/dairy, eggs). It's hard to pick a favorite among the massive selection - all of the fruit flavored donuts are stellar imo. The Tiramisu tastes like the actual dessert - I don't know how they accomplish it, but if you adore Tiramisu/coffee-flavored-everything as much as I do, do not miss this. Came back here again to give then an honest try after seeing them featured on "Somebody feed Phil" and I'm rather conflicted. The donuts were by no means bad but they're also not great. They didn't look particularly appealing off the shelf, especially the old-fashioned one, and neither did they taste extraordinarily good. The donuts we got (Guava Fritter and Yuzu Greentea) were cold. They still felt fresh but the temperature was a little off. The dough itself was also on the chewy side, not airy as regular yeasted donuts. The flavors of the fun glazes did come through very well. Tasted the guava and yuzu. I also liked the big chunks of pineapple in the guava one. Prices were decent though for an "artisanal/hipster" donut place. I think this place falls into the if I have to come back I would or if someone bought some I'd eat it but I wouldn't go out of my way to get their donuts regularly. We're also a little unlucky with a staff that really rushed us eventhough it's a weekday and there was barely a line. Would be nice to get to take our time to explore their unique creations. After salivating over their pictures on social media, I was in the neighborhood one day and decided to see whether the taste of the donuts matched the Insta-worthy pictures. To my delight, they did! Well executed, unique flavors is where the strength of their product lies and the ratio felt a little too skewed towards the dough. The staff are super friendly and very helpful. I recommend reviewing their menu and monthly specials ahead of time in order to prepare what you would like to order. I had been meaning to check out Doe Donuts forever and finally was in that part of town. I fell in love and might move in next door - it's so great! It's such a cute little donut shop with all vegan donuts (yay for those of us who are dairy-free!) that are ADORABLE and artisan but also actually taste fantastic. Even better, the people who work here are all SO super nice and friendly. Heads up: currently, masks are required inside, and only 4 customers are allowed inside at a time. It's a small shop. There's a sign letting you know the latest guidelines right outside of the door, so it's no surprise. Donuts and coffee are a happy vibe, so go prepared and keep the vibe going. They have creative flavor combos that actually taste great and aren't just for the theatrics of it all. The tiramisu is delicious. My fam also loved the key lime pie and classic Doe donut. My favorite? The cannoli filled donut, which was a seasonal flavor. SO GOOD! You should know that while these are 100% vegan donuts, they do all contain soy. It's located on a corner on the other side of Sandy Blvd - the door is not right on Sandy Blvd, so go just past NE 41st, take a right and drive around to the other side.
