Among the best fried shrimp I've every had. Cooked perfectly, light breading. I'm a yankee, so I would have enjoyed some cocktail sauce, but the shrimp were cooked perfectly. It's telling that I'm writing about the shrimp when steak is the name of their game. It was a nice piece of meat and it was cooked the way most in our group wanted it.... which is to say well done around the edges and medium to medium well in the middle. I'm a rare to medium rare person, so I basically didn't get to eat steak the way I liked it. What the heck is a "Doe's Eat Place", basically a great steak joint serving the meal family style so be ready to SHARE. Our table of six was in the Little Rock area for family stuff and we came hungry and started with an order of Tamales and Fried Shrimp both of which were excellent. The shrimp was lightly battered and a perfect golden brown with tarter and cocktail sauce both served. The main meal is the steaks and are you kidding me the smallest sirloin is 3.5 pounds. This is not the place to go on a date with someone, it is a place to enjoy with a group of people. The prices seem a little high but once you factor in that a 2 pound T-bone is about $40 and also comes with salad, potatoes, French fries and Texas toast and the sides will keep coming unless you tell them to stop it's not a bad deal. The restaurant is a simple place nothing fancy but the service was quick, attentive and always helpful. The steaks we ordered were cooked as asked and had a great char to the outside of them. All of the side items were excellent the toast was perfect to get all the drippings and the French fries were served in small plates and they kept bringing them out so they were always hot and cooked to a perfect golden brown. If your looking for a simple steakhouse and don't want to leave hungry then Doe's Eat Place should be your choice. read more

The atmosphere is dive bar at best, but the food is incredible. 4 people, lots of captain and cokes, 8 oz filet, a 3 pound t-bone, all the trimmings and tamale appetizer for under $200 is unheard of in Florida,,,, if you want to have fun, are comfortable in low key settings and want good food, this is the place to go in little rock. Had to go here, cause it was apparently Bill Clinton's favorite place when he lived in Little Rock. It's cuter than it is tasty, and not just because I'm a vegetarian and was limited to one choice on the lunch menu. My grilled cheese was decent enough, though they used American cheese, and that was disappointing. My spouse eats meat and got their turkey sandwich, which was "okay". She also got their tamales, which after last night's amazing tamales at Izzy's, were profoundly disappointing. If I could give negative stars I would!!! My husband and I went for our 15th wedding anniversary. We just moved to the area and saw it have great reviews on yelp. First of all there is a security guard out front because of the neighborhood. Inside looks like a bad diner... we ordered the t bone because there were all out of the porterhouse. The steak was burned on the bottom but rare on the inside, and had No SEASONING!!! The French fries were dumped on the plate right into the lake of steak grease and of course NO SEASONING!!! On the side were boiled red potatoes with NO SEASONINGS!!! And the toast was greasy with you guessed it NO SEASONINGS!!! And don't get me started on the marianated salad, the lettuce was so wilted and soggy and tasted like it was Marinated in vinegar and garlic.. All of this cost us 70$!!!! I was torn between 3 stars and 4, but the slow service and a touch too much salt on the porterhouse made me decide on 3. First of all, the place is an old-school dive. I don't mean that to be an insult, it's actually kind of cool and unique. There are red-checker table clothes, tons of old pictures on the wall of famous blues and country musicians, as well as politicians. The tamales were excellent, I highly recommend them. The salad I thought was so-so, just iceberg lettuce with a few onions and tomatoes drenched in homemade vinegar dressing of some sort. We ordered a 2.5lb Porterhouse done medium rare to medium (they let you specificy two done-ness levels because the steak is so huge and you share it). I thought it was more medium to medium well, but it still had a nice flavor. The service was friendly, but very slow, including having to wait for drinks, refills, and the bill quite a long time. All in all I'd say the place is worth stopping and deciding for yourself. I wouldn't make it a "must stop" while in Little Rock, but it's also not a bad choice. read more

Good service staff and the food is decent. Fries are homemade and served up in plentiful quantities. Try the tamales, they're tasty. I haven't had their steak by the pound yet though. Seating wraps around to the place next door so there's more room than you see when you first walk in. read more

My second time here with the last being 10 years ago. Nothing has changed. Same great service with no frills ambiance. We split a large steak cooked perfectly with French fries loaded on top. I arrived at the restaurant just after its 5:30 opening. I was a little scared to walk from my car to the entrance since I was by myself. When I got to the door I realized that there was a security guard stationed just outside the front door so there was nothing to worry about. I had my pick of seats, and I chose a table near the front. Throughout my meal, I interacted with many of the friendly staff who were gearing up for a busy evening. I started my meal with the tamales which reminded me of some my grandmother used to make. More of an american version of the Mexican favorite and delicious in their own way. Since the steak is listed by the pound, I knew that any of the available selections would be too much for a single diner. With my server's assistance I selected the T-bone which came with all the fixings to serve a family of 3 or 4. This resulted in a plethora of leftovers which I had packaged to go. I actually considered transporting the deliciously seasoned steak on my next flight! Alternatively I decided to give the leftover steak to the protective guard who walked me to my car. I love this place!!! A restaurant stays in business because of 2 major reasons: FOOD taste excellent & SERVICE is good. Doe's has both. I've been there twice and will continue to go back. There are 4 different types of steaks: Porterhouse, T-Bone, Sirloin, & Ribeye. I remember 3 lbs is the smallest steak for about $35. Definitely enough to feed two normal sized people. Cooked to perfection, juicy and the steak fries are excellent too. The tamales are just okay. The place and decor is not what you expect of a steak house. The tables are lined with red checkered picnic table clothes, should I explain more. It's really smokey too, due to the steak cooking, so, go for dinner not lunch, if you have to go back to work. Very disappointing!! Husband and I ate there many times in the 90's. I was very excited to go back after almost 20 years. I am sorry to say that it was terrible! The 3 pound T-bone that we ordered came out and it was full of fat and tasted like liver. The cause of meat tasting like liver is due to improper slaughter practices. Improper drainage causes the meat to be saturated with hemoglobin/myoglobin. It was disgusting. The place is old and filthy(especially the bathroom). The only reason why I gave it 2 stars is because the tamales and the new potatoes in butter were very good. If you want to overpay for a bit of nostalgia, by all means go there. If you want a serious steak that is aged and cared for properly, go to one of the prime steakhouses that we have in Little Rock and North Little Rock. This is the best steak house I have ever eaten at. Their salad alone, makes the entire visit worthwhile. And their steaks: great, wonderful, magnificent. It isn't fancy dining. The place looks like a dive, yes, and it costs more than most fancy places, yes, and it has little variety on the menu, yes, but they know how to make some of the best meat I've ever had. (I'm not the world's biggest steak eater, but boy this was terrific). Get a big ribeye (whatever they recommend) and share with friends. The fries are especially delicious when they soak up the steak juice. Pass on the tamales, which are made out of a machine. We went here for a work lunch, and it was filled with white men in suits... so I automatically felt a little out of place :-) Our lunch was held in the back room, which as people have said already, is a trek through the greasy kitchen to get to. As my beautiful coworker and I walked through the kitchen we got cat called- really, this is obviously a place for guys. *sigh* There are eclectic posters on the wall which are fun to look at while waiting. I ordered a burger, and shared some tamales with chili for an appetizer. The tamales were small and wrapped in wax paper... tamales should be wrapped in corn husks! Wax paper, seriously. The chili was pretty good. The burger tasted like a burger, and the fries tasted like regular fries. Nothing special. The food came out fast, and our table was cleaned up fast, my cup was never empty. I'd give the service a higher rating than the food.
