The staff frequently passes through the dance floor with mops for all the spilled drinks. 2 bars- one when you walk in (less crowded) and one in the back on the dance floor. Bathrooms were fine & they had an outdooor smoking area that was like a courtyard so you didn't need to get "re-IDed". Visited during covid with a friend. We were temperature checked and seated right away. Staff all wore mask and tables were socially distanced. I felt safe and the ambiance was very good. We ordered typical dishes, shrimp with rice and skirt steak with mashed potatoes. Did not think you can get simple plates wrong, but indeed they did. The food lacked seasoning, the steak was rubbery, rice was bland and plain (no beans nothing to accompany the dry missing flavor taste of my dish). We spoke to the waiter and he apologized. They offered to make it up with a round of drinks. Drinks were very good and very very well made. This is a nice place to come for the ambiance and music. My husband and I walked in here randomly on a Friday and were readily seated and were happy with the drinks and the atmosphere. The service was also good but the food is awful. We sampled a bunch of appetizers, all of which were bland and most of which seemed to be previously frozen and flash fried. The food was soulless, one note and not worth the prices they are charging. We shared an entree of churrasco that was tough despite ordering it rare, the rice and black beans were bland as were the tostones we ordered on the side. The cocktails were the highlight but also priced very high for the size they give you (16 bucks for an oz of rum in a mojito, and I know it's announce bc they forgot to put the rum in my drink and just bought me a shot). REVIEW I wanted to let you know how the private event I booked to celebrate my husband's 50th birthday on Saturday, January 13 2024, from 7-10pm went. I was concerned & unhappy with the service we received and my guests were extremely dissatisfied with the service they received as well. The first thing we noticed was that every smoke detector upstairs was beeping, meaning the batteries must be replaced. Considering it is a very cramped room, should there have been an incident, it could have ended catastrophically. Our servers were two elderly women who clearly did not know what was expected of them, what was included in our package and how to be a bartender & waitress prior to that night. When I booked the event, we agreed to have a Cash Bar, and was informed there is a bar in the room. This bar, unfortunately, was not equipped for even serving soda. Apparently, the cash bar was the one downstairs, requiring guests to go downstairs and buy a drink each time they wanted one. Some guests didn't even bother coming back up after a while because of the inconvenience. Each table was set with water glasses, but there was no water in them. The water was only brought after multiple guests asked for it. If you asked for water, they went downstairs and came back with a single cup of water. There were a few two-liter bottles of soda behind the bar that the servers had used when we first came in to get drinks for everyone. After that point, a few guests resigned to going behind the bar to serve themselves a glass of soda as needed. One of the servers commented on how we couldn't go back there, but they were almost never actually in the room to get us our drinks. In My opinion 1 person should have always been at the bar while the other went downstairs or taken turns going to get drinks since it wasn't equipped to serve drinks. Although if they were fully prepared to deal with 28 guests they shouldn't have had to go anywhere at least to serve Water & Soda. Each table should've had a pitcher of water, Sprite & Coke since it was included in the package. Around 7:30pm the appetizer arrived along with some small plates, but there was no silverware on the table. When requested, it took upward of 10 minutes to get forks and additional napkins. Immediately the servers disappeared again, leaving us to serve ourselves drinks once more. About 30 minutes later, the ladies returned to take our dinner orders, but the guests were never provided with menu options. Every dinner party I've ever attended at a restaurant Menus were provided & printed with the guest of honor's name, date and what they were serving so they were aware of what they could ask for and what was not included. For example, one of the servers asked me to tell the guests that the beers were $7 each if they wanted one. The orders were scribbled down on pieces of paper haphazardly, not on an actual order book with no indication of which table the food was for or who ordered each entrée or how they wanted their steak cooked. About 1 hour later, plates began slowly arriving at our tables. One server was bringing food in, 2 plates at a time, walking around the room calling out the name of the dish, with no mask on spitting all over the food as they yelled out who ordered what dish. Since many guests were mingling, not everyone noticed who the plates belonged to, and other guests began going through asking everyone what they ordered to find their respective home for the meal. It was very unorganized & very unprofessional. I expected at least to have 1 person in charge to be there to make sure things run smoothly and answer any concerns we might have had. But you nor anyone else came to check on the service we were receiving. When there were 5 guests left without their plates (or so we thought it was only 5) is when we learned they had run out of steak and were unable to provide them with the Churrasco they had ordered. It took the entire duration of when the meals were being prepared, and all plates were brought upstairs before they asked these 5 guests to choose another option. I could not believe it. As everyone around them attempted to eat their inedible meals, minutes going by and quickly approaching 10pm, my niece noticed her father had not received a plate of food either. She approached one of the servers, advising her that he had not received his food and she stated that if he wasn't asked to order something else then it must be coming. She never once went to confirm this information despite walking away. The other server returned about 10 minutes after that, still without the replacement meals, so she approached her as well. She mentioned that he had not received a meal but since he too had ordered churrasco, it was assumed he needed a replacement, but no one had taken his order. The response from the server was "He's not getting it, we're out of churrasco.". That was apparent, so when my niece clarified that she was aware and that he had not been asked what read more

This was my first & last time I'll dine at the new location. Although the decor was beautiful, the entrees that were available were less than desirable. We started with the coconut shrimp, which were extremely crunchy and honestly the second best part of our meal. The first were the sangrias. I ordered the whole red snapper. It was seasoned well however was so small, hardly any fish to enjoy. My friend was told they were out of salmon, yet had chilean sea bass, only to learn 10 minutes later they didn't have the sea bass either. He decided on the chicken which was was dry. The bill came and we were told we were given a discount due to not having the original entrees. We then realized the bill was simply adjusted to the actual cost of the chicken entree. The absolute worst birthday dinner I have ever had. I have to start out with a list and detail every issue: 1) I want to start out by saying that Don Coqui in White Plains does not have the full dinner menu that they portray to have online. They now have an extremely limited dinner menu with about 5 or maybe 6 dinner options. The sole reason why I wanted to have my birthday dinner at Don Coqui white plains was for their red snapper that I indulged in a year ago at their Astoria location which is now permanently closed. It was such a bummer that my partner and I travelled all the way on the metro north to find out they have such a limited menu. 2) Because of their extremely limited menu, I reluctantly chose the oxtails. Flavor was ok, however the cuts of meat were awful and were not properly cleaned, so much more fat than meat in a greasy sauce. Whoever buys their meat either doesn't care or doesn't know how to do so, it was a waste of money. 3) They no longer offer glasses of water. You have to buy bottled water for $3. When we asked our waitress for water, she said, and I quote "We don't serve tap water due to Covid". WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN?!?! My jaw dropped and I was speechless, it's not her fault because she does whatever the manager/or owner says. However, that is NOT how Covid spreads!!! You're going to tell me that the restaurant is afraid to either spread covid or catch covid because of the reusable cups, or whatever and you're forcing customers to overpay for what most places give out for free because I'm sure the owner needs to overcompensate due to the pandemic and they do so by charging $3 for bottled Poland spring water. Whatever the reason, pure IGNORANCE and that's how false information spreads. What about the water used for cooking, what about the water used for ice that we had in our drinks, are they all supposed to contain/possibly spread covid? Or is it about washing the reusable dinnerware - thinking about it makes head my hurt. 4) Speaking of the waitress, ours had an awful, dull attitude without a smile. There were only 3 parties for dinner the entire time we were there which was just under two hours, so she wasn't swamped. My partner and I were also the second party to come in and the first party that was there weren't complete and there were only maybe 3 people at the time out of maybe 10 when we arrived. She had glasses with reddish/purplish hair. She didn't give us a name or anything so unfortunately I cant call her out on this review. She took forever to clean our table, didn't ask us if wanted refills for our cocktails or anything. The only reason she was tipped was because now the restaurant includes her gratuity into the total for a party of two. And underneath you have the option to add additional tip - yea right. 5) When making reservations online, it asks what's the occasion, and of course I wrote my birthday and to please make it special. Whether a short singing of happy birthday, sparkler candle on dessert - whatever! They did absolutely nothing to accommodate the special day of a paying customer. 6) Music was trash!! There weren't a lot of customers, almost a ghost town, however most of the customers were young and the restaurant was playing old Latino hits, some bachata but nothing to keep the small crowd entertained. How do they not "read" the room? Wouldn't you want the customers to be lively and stay longer to indulge more? Guess not! We are NEVER, EVER returning. I planned a 50th Dinner Party and a night at the Club at Don Coqui. The booking and reservation process was great! The hostess I spoke with about 2 weeks prior to the night discussed the menu offerings, services and instructions for arriving the day of. We decided to do an open menu for the guests and opted to bring our own cake to dinner (which they stored and served for us, which was nice). We had a party of 12 people and I explicitly communicated that to the hostess I booked both the dinner with and the VIP club area. We arrived 15 minutes prior to our reservation time and everyone went to the bar to grab a drink as we waited for our table to be ready. We were seated about 10 minutes after our time. Upon being seated, it was pretty clear that the food service was going to take FOREVER because it took our waiter about 20 minutes to get to our table and even greet us. Drinks: Our table ordered a large amount mixed cocktails and liquor; When everyone at the table received their cocktails, we all quickly realized that they all tasted like juice and mixers, and were missing the key ingredient: Alcohol. When we brought it to the attention of our server, he tried explain to us that they were correctly made, but brought us different drinks to replace them. This was the first of many poorly made drinks that night, but the restaurant manager and server tried to compensate for the mistakes by bringing the table a round of shots. Food: the food was average Hispanic food, at best. The prices were typical for a nice sit down restaurant but I was unhappy with the quality. In particular, I got the surf and turf and it was drenched in some thick butter sauce that almost made the food inedible. The Club: we also stayed for the Club and I placed an order for Bottle Service for 800 dollars for 3 bottles and mixers. I ordered blue label, grey goose and champagne. When the girl arrived, she brought me some no name vodka because they said they ran out of grey goose. We all tried the $2 frozen passion fruit margaritas, pretty good but too sweet for me. All meals came with a small salad which was only ok, felt like a toss in. Where do I begin. The best thing that I can say about our overall experience was the maître d' who greeted us upon arriving whose name is Maria. We tried ordering two things off of the appetizer menu and the waitress told us those things were not available. After we had changed our appetizer order and our waitress came back, we then went to order our entrées. And again, she said I'm sorry, multiple entrées are not available. Why did she not say this to us immediately upon being seated? Rather than getting excited over what we wanted to eat and then being let down. This was horrible customer service. We then thought we would each have a little cup of espresso before leaving. The waitress said " Oh, we don't do that. Coffee or tea." They had no coffee! No coffee! This is a Puerto Rican restaurant! How is that even possible!?!? And no tea. Then we get the check and they have a surcharge fee for paying with a credit card. This is not a mom and pop bodega that needs to charge for using a credit card under a certain amount. The bill for the three of us, and ( we did not even have alcohol, we drank water) was $200 with tip included which they added automatically. This was our first outing since the beginning of the pandemic taking my husbands father out for a nice meal, that we had all been looking forward to for a very long time. I used to really like DC but something has changed. Maybe because they've expanded there's been a lack of quality maintenance. It's still a fun place to be but the food has been lacking in most of the locations I've visited. This location in White Plains probably has the best tasting food out of the DCs in which I've dined. The downside of this particular location is that it's never been as live as the others. I've eaten here, maybe three times and each time it has been busy in the dining room but no energetic ambience as with the New Rochelle location and unfortunately, THAT location has food I'd rather not eat. The last time I came to the White Plains location was for my girlfriend's parent's anniversary dinner. It was a nice set up and a fixed menu but I was very irritated to have gotten home and discovered that my leftovers which were a lot because I hardly ate my entrée, were completely mixed up with someone else's food. I ordered a steak and I ended up with fish. The sad part is that there were only about ten or eleven of us and we asked for containers at different times. Basically $30 down the drain. I went here for a girls night, and it was one of the worst meals and overall experiences I have ever had. I had calamari as an appetizer and seafood paella. The rice had no flavor and it was undercooked so it was crunchy. Everything was dry with no taste and most of the seafood in the paella, all of the shells were empty. We had a pitcher of Mojitos that tasted like sprite with some sort of artificial flavoring, and some tiny little flakes of mint thrown on top. As I left the dinner table the only thing I could think of was I should've eaten dinner before I came. The whole meal was inedible. Then we went tothe back to go dancing. That was fun because I was with a group of people, but they have hookah going on all over the dance area and bar so at any time there could be smoke blown in your face. Then all I really wanted was some water and the back bar provided the 8 oz Poland spring bottles for $6.00! I went to the front bar and asked for a glass of water and the lady gave me a lovely huge glass. Had she not, I would've gone to the manager as after paying $100 for a meal I could not even eat, and being forced to pay $5 to check my coat as they don't allow coats in the dance area, charging me $6 for a bottle of water is where I drew the line. Honestly the food here is not great at all. Basic Spanish food, cooked with the basic ingredients and most dishes are not tastful at all. Brunch here can be cheap because it includes unlimited mimosas for 2 hours and the place is nice, but if you want to actually enjoy a good meal find another brunch spot. Shocked by the low reviews---This place is one of kind. I mean when have you ever gone to a restaurant and they served you a pork shoulder that was falling off the bone? Think I'm kidding, check the pics. Let me start from the beginning. Our group came for my aunt's birthday, we made a reservation of course and we were seated right away. We got the personalized party menu ($45/pp)- menu had "Happy Birthday Tamara" and a list of entree options. Before the waiter even tells us his name, he comes with a a huge and I'm talking HUGE platter of food: fried shrimp, calamari, chicken skewers, chorizo skewers, fried pork chucks and fried chicken chunks. As I'm staring at this monstrosity of food that just arrived another man arrives with a platter of tostones topped with cod and beef, a plate of oysters and a plate of sausage and yuca, then the waiter introduces himself. In all honesty, I don't even remember his name because I was mesmerized by the food. Now if that's not a warm welcome to a restaurant, I don't know what is. We ordered dinner, we drank, we talked, blah blah blah but then the entrees arrived, as if we had any place to put anymore food. Shockingly, he puts three pork shoulders down in front of the three women that ordered roasted pork. I have never seen so much food on a table when I wasn't at a buffet in my entire life--and I know how to eat, mmkay. I had the snapper which was good but I kept looking at that pork shoulder. I consoled myself but thinking, "Hey, I am the driver. I need room in the waist line to navigate the car properly. I can't pull the undo the top button routine." Needless to say, it took two, that's right, two to-go containers per person to package up that dinner. They gave us dessert too but at that point, I didn't even want to see anymore food. The place was PACKED, like clearly the recession never hit this restaurant. What I really liked is instead of hurrying us out of the restaurant so they could seat someone else, they offered for us to go to the lounge. So you don't have to leave, lets slide this party down where you can be more comfortable kinda thing-- I like this. While I liked the sentiment, we declined because we were stuffed so no need of us looking like a group of tella tubbies posted up in a lounge. The place was good. Absolutely delicious. Came here last night with a party of 6. We were offered a special pre-fix menu $45 pp - family style app platter (3 plates of food -- seriously enough for 10 ppl), entree and family style dessert (again enough to feed 10 ppl). Everyone had the skirt steak which came with potatoes salad and a side as our entrees - mine was delicious. The desserts came out on 2 plates as well. I've never tried flan or dulce de leche before and tried them last night. OMG i could have eaten 3 of each they it were so good. The server also brought us 6 glasses of eggnog on the house. It was very very strong so I literally took a sip but I thought it was very nice of them. With tax/gratuity the bill came to $535 = $179 per couple. Not bad IMHO. The $19.95 Sunday brunch was an amazing deal! The food was fantastic and the sangria and mimosas that are included are so good! Our waiter was a gem and made sure our party of 11 had plenty of drinks. Loved everything that I tried from the rice and beans to the paella, the salads, the French toast, fresh fruit, cheese cakes, pork, sausage, deviled eggs, guacamole, fresh cheeses with tomatoes, and more! I don't know how they can offer so much delicious food and drinks for $19.95 plus tax and tip, but I wish I lived closer. I'd be there a lot! Parking on the street wasn't hard to find on a Sunday and you don't have to put money in the meters on Sundays so that's good to know. They also have their own lot where you can park for $7 before 6pm or $10 after 6. I would love to go back for brunch! We got there at 12 when brunch starts and it was perfect, not crowded at all and when more people came later, there was still plenty of room for everyone to be seated comfortably.
