I discovered Dough last year on my first trip to New York and it continued to be my favorite morning stop when I went back this June. I've tried several of their doughnuts but my personal favorite would probably be Hibiscus. It is covered in a sweet fruit flavored icing with a small piece of edible dried hibiscus on top. They can be a bit pricey for a single doughnut but they're pretty big and I really only needed one for my breakfast. I'd definitely recommend trying them when in New York, but just don't expect the employees to be super bubbly about your doughnut craving at eight in the morning. Just order and enjoy! read more

Yum, best yeast doughnut I've had in a while. Tried the hibiscus doughnut, lots of flavor. Perfectly fluffy and doughy and not too chewy. My past go to for artisanal yeast doughnuts was Dough Loco, but theirs are a bit chewier, and I'd have to say Dough's are better. Dough doughnuts use to be one of my favorite doughnuts in NYC. For some reason they changed the original recipe! The doughnuts use to be soft and pillowy, now they are strange and dense and heavy. I have no idea why they would change. Just to make sure it wasn't a 1 time thing, I've tried their doughnuts 2 more times since I believe they changed and it was the same! Oh. My. God. This place is literally the best donut shop I have ever been to. The donuts are huge and not at all what I thought they'd cost. For the amount of donut you're getting, it's super cheap. The little donut bites are amazing as well. The shop itself is really nice and aesthetically pleasing. Staff is also very nice and helpful with describing the flavors. After a little Muji shopping (there's one on the same block), you should definitely stop in here for a donut (or two..). read more

This place doesn't need another review. It's good. It's damn good. It's not the cheapest baker's dozen for $6 in a pink box type of donut, but that's fine. They have the lightest texture, and I love that Dough isn't afraid to not drown the dough in sugar, which gives it that slightly fried flavor to it. Dough is an apt name for these beefy donuts nearly the size of a compact car's tires. They're not only large in circumference, but pretty thick as well. This gives a nice fluffy inside to the donut with a slight crisp to the outside. The flavors are good, but not as crazy or wild as you might find at other donut places, and definitely with less fruit. The chocolate with chunks of real chocolate was quite tasty. To my surprise I ran into Dough. OMG! I was sooooo happy. A smile started on the inside and made its way to my face. I first encountered Dough at the Brooklyn Flea. They had a small cart stand and a long line. I ordered a plain glazed donut. Bliss!!! I still remember it to this day. I don't often leave negative reviews.... but don't waste your time coming here if you love donuts. We tried two and both were extremely dry and boring. I usually have to ask someone to force me to stop eating all the donuts when we order a dozen at other shops... but I couldn't even finish one because it was soooo dry. Not the best doughnuts I've had in NYC but they're close and worth going out of your way to try. There was a bit of a line when I went but it moved pretty quickly, I'd imagine the line would be even longer during peak hours. Tried the famous hibiscus doughnut, wasn't all too happy with it. It's a taste that takes some getting used to, a weird sweet-tangy kick. The other doughnuts were amazing though and they're all huge so go hungry. I've been eyeing Dough since their famous doughnuts first appeared on my Instagram feed over a year ago. During my most recent trip to New York, I knew I had to stop in and finally try them. I ordered the dulce de leche, which is a yeast doughnut that is covered with a dulce de leche glaze and topped with almonds. It was recommended to me by the worker behind the counter, and I was initially hesitant because I was worried it would be too sweet. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it wasn't. The almonds added a nice crunchy texture to each bite. I also split an order of the glazed doughnut holes (4) with a friend, and I think I liked these even better than the actual doughnuts! You can't go wrong with a classic, and Dough definitely had the best glazed doughnuts I've ever had. They have a whole host of other flavors that I'm also interested in trying out in the future, including hibiscus and pear. read more

I tried one blood orange flavored donut and the glazing was really tasty. donut itself was pretty plain Jane - maybe even slightly below average. in no way is this any kind of health food and it's actually something I would rarely eat. WARNING: do not, repeat DO NOT go to Dough on an empty stomach first thing in the morning. You will exit the building with far more doughnuts than you intended. And you won't really be sure how the heck it happened! At about 7AM on a weekday the shop didn't have a line but there was food porn galore- a person already tearing into their doughnut as they left, incredible smells and trays full of FRESH doughnuts all perfect and mouthwatering. I ended up getting so many flavors to try, I couldn't quite believe myself, lol. Notable highlights: Nutella- puffy, not overly sugary even with 2 kinds (cinnamon and powdered). They could have used a tad more filling but overall YUMMY! Boston cream- I wish they sold tubs of their pastry cream because I could have eaten it with a spoon! The chocolate was very rich, I doubt I could eat more than one! Coconut: very nice and light. The toasted coconut was just right, not too much, not too little. I went to Dough on their opening day and grabbed a hibiscus doughnut, I was excited to try it as I had heard so much about it. On the walk back to my office I realized that I had had a Dough doughnut before, they sold them at Lark on Church Ave in Brooklyn. I had a lemon poppy and didn't care for it very much, it wasn't a bad doughnut but I'm not a huge citrus fan and the lemon flavor was quite strong. I must say the hibiscus was much much more to my liking. The doughnut was quite large and had a nice egg flavor. What a surprise it was to find Dough hidden on 19th street after a Bed Bath and Beyond session. This Manhattan outpost is double the size of the original spot, with a communal table off to the side for seating. This location also takes cards (!!!). I had a lemon poppy seed and it was up to code--fresh, sugary, delish. There was a steady stream of tourists coming in and out, so don't expect a laid back coffee shop vibe. I really wanted to like the donuts here, but they just can't live up to Doughnut Plant. The matcha, for example, had no matcha flavor whatsoever. Disappointing. The salted caramel seems more like chocolate with specks of salt. Didn't taste any caramel and didn't look like caramel brown at all. The donut itself is not the nice yeast-y texture. Instead it was pretty dry. The only good thing was that the fruit donuts (lemon poppy and passionfruit) actually have strong fruit flavors. The staff could also be a little nicer. I know they are packed and busy a lot but they don't have to be that dismissive. Oh well, it really doesn't matter though.
