Their new ordering process is to order and pay before your order goes in. If you'd like to add a tip, you also have to do this before you're served. If you want to tip after you've been served, as per any normal establishment, you can either leave cash or you don't tip. Once you send your order in, it's closed. So ass backwards. When I explained this to the manager, he missed the point (twice) saying tipping was optional (no sh!t). I had to explain that tipping is a reward for good food and service, not an entitlement. He said "that's the way we're set up". Good to know, what used to be one of my favorite establishments (both the one in Temecula and Murrieta) has now lost my business. Tried this place for the 1st time and they had great service, good ambience, location is a hit, but the two things I enjoy at places to dine are a large meal selection and reasonable pricing. Those are my two only complaints. Grace and Jake were so kind and provided excellent customer service that it's totally worth us trying again, but probably just to meet up with friends outside for drinks. Stopped by here on a Friday evening, randomly. So happy we did. Maria was our server, she was great! So attentive and knowledgeable of the menu. Cocktails were very good. We fell in love with Downtown PUBlic because of the service, the servers are awesome! This is our second visit, still exploring the menu, and so far we leave smiling and satisfied. Noise level is tolerable. You can choose patio dining, too. We enjoyed playing with the online mobile ordering system - it's like a toy for adults, very convenient. There were 3+ servers who came in to ask about our order, and they smiled when they saw us fumbling our independence with their "technology." Less than 10 minutes our orders came out as expected - first out (appetizers), entree, dessert, and continuous check-in from servers to see how we were doing... two very satisfied, happy diners! Wife & I went here last night for dinner & it was great. The atmosphere is nice & relaxing, great vibes. Great seating both inside & out. I had the kobe burger which was delicious & she had shrimp pasta which she said was excellent & some of the best pasta she's ever had! Second visit in two weeks because of the "New Ownership", same old story don't waste your money here. First trip wife my wife ordered a drink the was supposed to have fresh watermelon pieces in it (it didn't). I will say that yesterday the drink did have a couple pieces of watermelon on top of it like it was supposed too. Second trip I ordered their version of a smoked Old Fashioned and requested Woodford, the alcohol didn't even cover the ice cube. There was some discrepancies with the up-charge for the Woodford, depending on what day it is it can be anywhere from $1 to $3.50?. After a tough day at work, I went with two colleagues for much deserved dinner at Public and I ordered their Kobe Wellington Burger. First thing I have to say that the meal was not even close to the pictures they post online with their menu! To be specific, the burger was extremely over cooked. When it comes to the topping it was very difficult to describe what this was; the blob of cheese on top of the burger made it impossible to see if mushrooms and leek were even there! In an attempt to eat something for dinner I decided to push all this toppings aside. Things did not improve as the bottom part of the bun was extremely hard and top part breaking easily, suggesting a very old bread! Next the fries; bunch of those little pieces that are found at the bottom of the fries bag plus overly salted! I am very sad to write a note like this as I like to support local community businesses but I work too hard to pay $23 for a meal that is completely unacceptable. read more

Been coming here for years and the service has gotten worse and worse. Our most recent and last visit we made reservations. When we arrived the hostess said she didn't have our name down so we weren't able to sit outside like our reservation was made for. 20 minutes after our party was seated inside the restaurant kept calling me for my reservation, the one they had just told me they didn't have. Rude staff that don't even know their menu to make recommendations. Drinks can't be altered, waitress said that "not allowed." Waitress was rude and condescending. Such a cute place to check out in Murrieta. Stopped here for lunch and we were seated right away. We decided on outdoor seating outside on a high top since the booths were filled. Our waitress was so nice, brought us water right away took our drink orders. We ordered the lemon vanilla margarita, which is a must! A mimosa and an espresso martini. The espresso martini was made perfect and presented so cute. For lunch we ordered the Barbacoa bowl, the appetizer Mac and cheese and the Greek salad with avocado, and the slice up a whole avocado. Everything was so fresh and flavorful. Portions are huge! So if you are going for lunch or your not super hungry, you could easily split an appetizer, entree and/or salad for two people. It was a little pricey for lunch, but given the size of the portions and flavor, it is well worth it. Would definitely recommend if you live in Murrieta or you are just visiting. I love the food most of the time, very disappointing they don't allow my daughters emotional support dog in the outdoor patio area. The location in old town Temecula didn't have a problem. My daughter has very bad social anxiety so we got her a mini Aussie Shepherd that is only 3 months old and they wouldn't allow us to eat there. Manager had the nerve to say she's not a service dog as she doesn't provide a service. Service dogs are allowed, registered emotional support dogs are not. Shameful First restaurant I've been to with this puppy that hasn't allowed us to eat outside and I go out to eat 4-5 times a week. I'm not from this area but I visited this place on Sunday October 9 2023 this place was empty it was early and it had just opened. The service was mediocre we saw our waitress maybe two times and we had to request extra drinks directly from the bartender. The food was not good we ordered the Kobe burger and it tasted like fish the meat could not have been fresh. My sister ordered the fish special they said the fish was very fishy and did not taste well either. My nieces ordered the Mac n cheese and that was not great either. Another great experience at Downtown Public. We've added it to our Sunday brunch rotation. The service is always good, but we really appreciate Sarah's attention to detail, incredible memory from our prior visits, always makes sure our group is happy and satisfied. I and two co-workers came here for lunch. Overall, not impressed. We ordered two Classic Kobe burgers and an order of wings. The burgers were ordered cooked medium. To me medium cooked burger is a little pink , not bleeding red. Both burgers showed up more on the rare of medium rare side and the bottom bun was soaked in blood. Seriously, for what they charged for the burger, this is not acceptable. The wings were equally un-impressive. The waitress never followed up with us after the food was delivered. I had a great experience here. Me and my husband decided to come for a late lunch. It was windy and relatively cold for a California standard (I'm from Connecticut) but the atmosphere was nice and inviting and they had fire tables to keep you warm. We've been wanting to come support this business for a while since they were being respectful of the Covid shut downs unlike some of the other local businesses. The drink selection was excellent as was the drinks that we ordered. We've lived all over the country and these drinks are on par with typical drinks you find in the trendy places in big cities. The food and service was great too. I like how you can scan to get the menu and I love how eclectic the menu is. We're new to the area but we will for sure be back. read more

Came here tonight and sat outside and it was really nice, except when the food came the flies swarmed us, so we moved inside but the flies were still a nuisance for the whole meal. The food was very good (braised short ribs, pasta arrabbiata, berry salad, and the magic bar for dessert was amazing). When we left we saw the outside door to the kitchen was propped open so that's most likely how the flies are getting inside. That would be like me telling my customers, "Sorry, please order online--I'm too busy." Five meals, all came out at different times over the course of 25 minutes meaning some of us had cold food while waiting for the others. What a fantastic restaurant!!! I was here today with my husband and mother in law and I can't stop talking about this place!!! Lunch was so delicious, I couldn't decide what to get from the extensive menu, I decided on the delicious chicken pot pie that wasn't anything like your ordinary pot pie and my husband and Mother in law got the delicious fish tacos. They loved them. I ordered two yes two mai tais because they were the best I'd ever had. Came here yesterday (Saturday at 4 pm) to have a quick bite and a drink. We went into the restaurant and were completely ignored by the staff. One server looked at us then turned around. No customers inside and there were only a few outside. Decided to go sit at the bar and it was filthy. My wife said nope we are out. If it is slow and the place is dirty something is wrong. I can understand if it was packed. But this was unacceptable. I really wanted to love this place as I usually frequent the Old Town Temecula location as it was closer to our old home. Haven't been to Downtown Public for some time until we saw the sign that it was under new ownership. We have come many times in the last few months and the food is delicious, with a wide variety to choose from. All our servers have been kind and attentive. Great vibe and food in Old Town Murrieta and new things always comings to the menu as well as live music, etc with the new ownership! Give it a try!
