Food is always good...if you can get it. Phone has never been answered, at least for me (called at least 15 times over 4 different order attempts). They advertise that they close the kitchen at 1:30 but have closed it much earlier w/o warning or prior food order, which you can't make by phone, and only other option seems to be in store. Hoping the business/logistics side can get figured out to make this a 5* every time. If not, just plan to come early and wait for your order to be cooked, the food will be good! read more

Man, LET ME TELL YOU! Sooooooo delicious, and I mean, WOW! Boomerang of food is posted. I got catfish and loaded grits bowl w/ turkey sausage. It comes with veggies, normally, but I skipped them! Cute little place, cool people, good food. I had wings and kale salad, and the kid had chicken and waffles. Nothing wrong with anything, but I felt let down for some reason. Maybe because, while delicious, kale salad is a heavy food and overtakes the meal. I'd go back and try something else. If you sit outside, the tables are in a steep sidewalk, so you either lean forward or twist sideways, or feel like you're falling backwards. There are bees. I can't say enough good things about this place!! The food will have you in a state of joy for days. The flavors are bold and delicious with incredible seasoning. The loaded grits is just like when I went to the south. I didn't think it was even possible to find food like this in the PNW. There is also personality to this place, that captivates you. Down to earth people with out of this world food. If I could give it 10 stars I would. This is a mom n pop shop, so all the people complaining about petty things like bad lettuce or a slip up in an order need to be an adult and speak up and correct their order instead of running to yelp. This place is great! Not really on MY beaten path (and you really have to look for it if you are not familiar to the area) but if it were in my area I would eat here 3 times a week. Small little place but nice and clean, and service is good. We all had the wings and I ordered them naked (not me- the wings) with the sauce on the side. 1 lb was a generous portion for lunch, onion rings were perfect, mac and cheese was great, the fries...well they were ok. This place is a hidden gem in this neighborhood and can't wait to go back and try their pork chop sandwich. read more

Omg not only does Drae's Lake Route have yummy chicken but they now serve brunch with some seriously delicious Montana potatoes which is probably described more as a "pile". You have yummilicious home twice cooked potatoes mixed with ground meat of your choice (sausage/bacon my favorite) sautéed with carmelized onions and peppers, Sprinkled with cheese and seasoned to perfection!!!! All so good! Much better than Nate's waffle in seattle. Breaded wings is perfect and not as salty as Nate's. Strawberry banana nutella waffle was just alright, i wish the waffle is crispier. My husband likes his blueberry bacon waffle. Seasoned wings with mango habanero, sweetchili and bbq. My fav was the breaded habanero. But then again i usually love spicy. Popped into this neighborhood joint this morning for breakfast. Warm, welcoming atmosphere, and we got the last, open table. They may have been short-staffed because it took over a half-hour before our food was brought out, but it was a pleasant place to spend time so it wasn't a big deal. I had the chicken and waffle, and it was delish. My girlfriend was thrilled to see grits on the menu, and she tucked those away in record time. We'll be back! read more

WOW! We were looking for the best chicken wings in Seattle and made the drive over to Rainier Beach. The place is a little tough to find but well worth the search. The service was amazing (thanks, Drae!) and they labeled all of our boxes so we knew what was inside - super helpful for a big order. Our fave sauces were the sweet chili, mango and bbq. I have to say the the wings are very good (which doesn't happen much in Seattle) they can come with or without breaking but you definitely want to try the buffalo sauce. Also try the kale salad it's very good with a creamy sauce. Don't expect a quick experience, good food takes time. Googled 'food near me' and ended up here. Ordered chicken waffle sliders and sweet potato fries. They also have philly cheesesteak sandwiches, maybe next time. Love at first bite. The fried chicken was delicious and transported me back to Screendoor in Portland, the waffle was sweet and light, the sweet potato fries were good. What I would change, no greens on the slider, doesn't need it, maybe add a little sweet and spicy to the sweet potato fries. This place and the folks who run it are amazing. It's the opposite of so many Seattle places, where there's too much fuss/hipster bs and not enough food. This is a family owned, I believe Louisiana rooted place where all the food is so tasty, seasoned and cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious. I had the loaded grits bowl and couldn't finish it, it was so much food and so tasty and good. My partner had the pork chop plate and was dying of happiness. The owner and her daughter are incredible and we got invited to try a delicious piece of lemon 7 UP cake at checkout, which is hands down one of the best pieces of pastry I've put in my mouth. Had the brilliant idea of ordering takeout so I could go to the nearby park and enjoy a little picnic in the sun. That being said, ordering waffles for takeout isn't a smart idea since it gets soggy pretty quickly, especially when stuffed with some juicy fried chicken and topped with maple aioli. It only took about 5 mins to get to the park but that was all the waffle needed to lose any crispiness there might have been - but that one's on me. The sliders tasted great otherwise; chicken strips were cooked to perfection and the spices were just right. I am not a huge fan of kale simply because most places I've tried it at don't really get it right. I remember the first time I tried a kale salad that was simply amazing and since then, most places have sadly been a let down. However, I was pleasantly surprised with the kale salad here and actually quite enjoyed it. Can't even count on one hand other places that I would recommend a kale salad, so that speaks volumes for this one. Of course, that's all relative to my humble opinions and taste buds. Also ordered the philly cheesesteak and wings with the honey sweet chili sauce. The philly was pretty good and didn't disappoint. Maybe a little bit on the saltier side but the roll was soft and soaked up the flavors well. The salt & pepper fries actually stayed pretty crispy and were also tasty. I didn't particularly enjoy the honey sweet chili wings and might have fared better choosing a different sauce - they have about six to choose from. Overall, a good spot to stop at if you're cruising around the southern end of Lake Washington or if you simply find yourself in the area. I wanted to check out the local spot for breakfast and it did not disappoint! I had the Catfish and grits with scrambled eggs and toast and it was great! The catfish was cooked to perfection. Now, not everyone can make grits. It's usually one of the hardest things for a restaurant to master but man these grits were sooooooo good! They nailed it! This place is amazing. I love the girl that works the front counter during the weekends (the only time we've gone), she's very attentive and good at her job. The waffles are soft on the inside, crisp on the outside. $5 for a plain, or $6 for something a little more involved. The chicken is crispy outside, moist inside--fries--the same thing. I keep meaning to explore more of their offerings, and I intend to... Seriously, this place is really good. And their Christmas decorations look so nice with the existing wood interior. read more

I used to come here when it was Lake Route Cafe many years ago. It's easy to miss if you're not from the area, but once you find it, you will not regret it! It has been awhile since I've been to a true family run business. Upon walking in, I was greeted by a young girl (10yrs-12yrs) who was so kind and professional. The menu has many many options that may make you just order a couple of times to sample. In the end I chose the chicken and waffle sandwich which was very delightful. The waffle was fluffy with a slight crispy with each bright, and the chicken was juicy with just the right crunch. The flavor was out of this world. read more
