If you want to taste the Sea, this is where you'll find most of the dishes overly salty. This isnt worth the Hype and for people to compare this to DTF - no way. The simple ingredient that goes with xlb wasn't even offered as they don't have ginger here. This is the first place I've had xlb that didnt offer ginger slices. Most of the dishes are salty nothing to praise about. Place is very small, its more of a self serve / buffet style. Get your own drinks, ice cream, napkins. There was only 1 server running the place and she was everywhere. If you're a party of 2, its easier to get a table as party of 3 or 4 is considered a large table which there isn't much in there. read more

Came at around 2:30 pm on a Sunday and was able to be sat immediately as a party of 2! There's only one server for the ~9 tables inside, so don't expect the fastest service, but I still think it's a good deal for the price. I was able to find street parking easily, and I enjoyed the pork xlb and truffle xlb. String beans with garlic were good. I liked the chicken spicy wontons (a bit on the sweeter side). I'd probably skip on the noodles since they're kind of all the same except for the sauce they're marinated in, and I've had much better cucumbers. I think people who had complaints need to adjust their expectations for a $35 weekend AYCE deal; I'd still recommend for hungry families / couples on a budget. The service was great. Our server was nice and great with suggestions and I could see the chef from our table. It's a bit deep into San Marino and if you come too close to 2, they turn you away because they close between lunch and dinner service. Yes, it's a very small shop with only one waitress and they add 15% gratuity to all bills in advance. The bill was $132 ($112 food + tax + $20 tip). The one server for the entire restaurant was very efficient & very friendly. She made recommendations. Our favorite was the xiao long baos (dumpling with soup). We ordered the cold green beans with garlic, chili cucumber salad, Dan Dan noodles with fried pork, beef steamed dumplings, chili chicken dumplings, shrimp fried rice, 2 egg rolls, 2 bowls of hot and sour soup, 1 bowl of the egg drop soup with seaweed, 1 chocolate bao for dessert, ice cream in 4 flavors, 2 bottles of water, & 2 Cokes. The green onion pancake & custard tarts were not available. We did not order the dim sum items like steamed pork buns, shrimp har gow, or shou mai pork dumplings. The restaurant is small, clean, plain, with indoor (9 small tables) & outdoor patio seating, & has 1 clean unisex restroom. You eat with plastic utensils, wooden chopsticks, & small dessert size paper plates. The downside is that you cannot take home any leftovers. They are trashed. So, to avoid wasting food, it's better if you first order small samples of all entrees that interest you. You can then always reorder your favorite dishes in multiple quantities. Soft opening for a delicious dumpling bar in San Marino. The chef hailed from a 30 year old dumpling house in Taiwan. He came out and engaged with the customer. Really wanted to know our feedbacks. The manager and the staff were all so attentive and sweet. The food was awesome and i can definitely say the XLB rivals the best of them, including din tai fong. They made the skin all in-house, so you definitely taste the chewy-ness. The meat inside is soft and juicy. We also tried the dan dan noodle - has pork katsu on top with a mix of the meatsauce and peanut sauce. It is perfect balance of sweet and savory. With cucumber and beansprout, this dish is appreciably light and not at all heavy W/ oil/salt. The noodle again is well textured. The most delightful part of this meal is actually the side of pickled chili-oil cabbage. This little detail to the meal actually pulls the dishes together (like the ginger slices for the XLB).
