I was confused as a few items were "not available" at the moment, which limited the options we had. We waited about 20mins on a Saturday (party of 2) which I didn't think was too bad, be warned though, I did notice bigger parties had a significantly longer wait time. It's true, it's not Din Tai Fung status, it's more like it's knockoff sister, but for the price it wasn't as terrible as others made it out to be. It's a bit deep into San Marino and if you come too close to 2, they turn you away because they close between lunch and dinner service. Yes, it's a very small shop with only one waitress and they add 15% gratuity to all bills in advance. Would order again: -Black Truffle XLB: Its a marketing ploy, it's a stronger shiitake fragrance but doesn't really have black truffle. But the shiitake flavor is better than the overly sweet XLB. -Fried rice with pork chop: Laced with yummy goodness, I could eat this all day. -Garlic green beans: plenty of garlic flavor but still missing the it factor Tried but meh: -XLB: sweeter than the norm. -Lamb boiled dumpling: Very small and bland -Cucumber salad: just chopped cucumber with chili oil. The Shanghai style scallion pancake was my favorite, crisp outside and thicker, doughy inside. The Dan Dan noodles were flavorful and came with minced pork and fried chicken or pork, were indecisive so they gave us both and they were both really good, not overbattered and perfectly fried. The service was great. Our server was nice and great with suggestions and I could see the chef from our table. When I walked in, it did smell like cleaning supplies, but to be fair it was empty on a weeknight so not too much was cooking at the time, so to speak. The XLB was tasty. Honestly all the dumplings were delicious. We also had the cucumbers and green beans and they both crispy and seasoned well. I loved the ice cream by the door so I can serve myself on my way out. Did the AYCE w/ a friend yesterday and we really enjoyed it. Get there early as the place is small and it's currently too cold to sit outside (although they do have a couple of tables out there). I half expected for the dumplings to taste frozen but they didn't. Everything was fresh and delicious. Another reviewer mentioned the cucumbers were "old and wrinkly" - they absolutely were not. They use Persian style cucumbers whose skin has that kind of texture. The dish itself was really crunchy and fresh (as was their Woodear Mushroom dish!). There was only one server (who was also the interim manager) taking care of the whole place but he did it like a boss despite every table being filled and a line outside. Took care of everyone in a very timely manner (turnaround was quick!), and still managed to ask every table several times how they were doing and if they needed anything. He plopped down some extra napkins on the table just as I was thinking about asking for more- Homie was on top of it! Also, the custard buns for dessert were ACE! Super soft and cloud-like bao bun with an extra creamy, warm, thick vanilla custard inside. AYCE is $30/pp and we paid $43/pp total with tax, hot tea, and tip. I went at 11:45 AM on a weekday. They do get very crowded for lunch, even on weekdays, and there will almost certainly be a wait. The restaurant is very small compact so be aware they have very limited amount of seating. The service was OK, it was just one server on her own to wait on everyone during the lunch rush so she was definitely busy and overwhelmed and other than dropping food off, did not interact with us. The food for the most part was all decent/good. Best items to me were the lamb dumplings, and the green beans. Weakest item was the Parmesan garlic noodles with prawns, they were so dry. Also note that the only thing on the table when we sat down with soy sauce, so you have to flag down the server if you want chili oil, or even vinegar and ginger for the XLB. My husband, 2 grandchildren, & I ate at the Dumpling Bar on Wednesday, 1/7/26. The AYCE buffet cost for 1 Adult was $30 on weekdays. The cost for 1 child was $16. The bill was $132 ($112 food + tax + $20 tip). The one server for the entire restaurant was very efficient & very friendly. She made recommendations. Our favorite was the xiao long baos (dumpling with soup). We ordered the cold green beans with garlic, chili cucumber salad, Dan Dan noodles with fried pork, beef steamed dumplings, chili chicken dumplings, shrimp fried rice, 2 egg rolls, 2 bowls of hot and sour soup, 1 bowl of the egg drop soup with seaweed, 1 chocolate bao for dessert, ice cream in 4 flavors, 2 bottles of water, & 2 Cokes. The green onion pancake & custard tarts were not available. We did not order the dim sum items like steamed pork buns, shrimp har gow, or shou mai pork dumplings. The restaurant is small, clean, plain, with indoor (9 small tables) & outdoor patio seating, & has 1 clean unisex restroom. You eat with plastic utensils, wooden chopsticks, & small dessert size paper plates. The downside is that you cannot take home any leftovers. They are trashed. So, to avoid wasting food, it's better if you first order small samples of all entrees that interest you. You can then always reorder your favorite dishes in multiple quantities. Street metered parking for 2 hours is available on Huntington Drive. Be careful when you back your car out into the traffic. read more

I was asked to wait "3-5 minutes" 10 minutes later I was handed a bag with one order. "I asked, where is the rest" the guy returned from the kitchen with another bag and said "here this is all of your order" got home to find 1/2 the order missing- tried calling to notify them - no answer after 4 different calls. - the half of the order I got was decent, not great. I had the AYCE. After reading all of the rave reviews, I was expecting to go to a place where they made their items in house from scratch. I thought they were a place where I could go to get freshly made dumplings, baos, etc. Unfortunately, this place is not. Now, I'm not saying it's a bad thing. It all depends on what you are looking for. Are you looking for quantity over quality? Or quality over quantity? For $30 weekday or $ 33 weekend, this place, as other posters have said, can satisfy the quantity debate. Strangely, this place offers only beef and chicken but no pork based dumplings and baos. I did try the pork cutlet which is offered by itself and on several noodle dishes. The cutlet was definitely not raw, dredged, and fried ...freshly made. It was one of those that were premade somewhere else and frozen. Then, refried for this order, and yes, it was dry, as in school cafeteria dry. The meat centers in all of the other items I ordered had the beef or chicken taste, but the texture was off. They weren't tender and tasty like when your wife, mom, auntie, grandmother, whoever made it fresh. They had the density and paste like texture of the fish paste meat balls you find at the Asian supermarket which indicated to me that they weren't made there with quality products, just fillers. A lot of these dishes are served in a broth and/or sauce which hides the meat texture and adds flavor which can make the item acceptable. We had two noodle dishes which used the same packaged noodles. So, come if you want the quantity. Ambiance was nice, and service was ok. One server for the entire room which was half full at 1220 on a wed afternoon when I arrived. I did have the beef noodle soup where the big chunks of beef were tender, tasty, and had just the right amount of fat. Yummy We live in the SGV where recently on just about every street corner and on every block, there are new restaurants that serve hand pulled noodle soup dishes and/or freshly made won ton, xiao loong bao, or dumplings. The cucumbers in the starter were old and wrinkled, and the dumplings themselves tasted like lower-quality frozen ones rather than fresh. We also got charged $30 for AYCE even though it was advertised as $25, and they added a 15% "delivery charge" to our dine-in bill, which made no sense. By the time everything was added up, it came out to about $45 per person. At that price, there are much better non-AYCE dumpling places that offer higher quality food. Waited over an hour for some average food. We were 6th in line when we arrived for dinner, just before 5p on a Sunday. The 5 in front were just couples or trios, so they got their (indoor) seats relatively fast. Waitress told us it would be 30 mins, but that slowly turned into an hour and 20 minutes. Don't let the posts on the Gram or the cheeky concept of AYCE feed your mind and sway you to come on over and wait in line for just average food and service. There's plenty of dumpling spots and Asian food in general nearby that will definitely hit the spot. Did I mention that they give you paper plates for your servings? Yea, the small ones that you use for cake or desserts. And the soup spoon was plastic and flimsy just like a spork. Don't believe the IG hype! Check Yelp! before you lose an hour + of your time. We were lied to when they told us they were out of regular dumplings (only an hour after opening what?) only for the neighboring table to get their own order of dumplings even though they arrived shortly after us. Food: Braised Beef Noodles - Was plated nicely and the beef texture is ok, but it had some of the most disgustingly overpowering sweetest broth I've ever had the displeasure of eating. If you wanted to claim this as Shanghai style noodles, that would be a stretch too. Katsu Pasta - The katsu was nice, crispy, moist, and plentiful. The noodles were just plain bland and oily. Unfortunately, the katsu was also bland as well. XLB - Meaty and juicy, but the flavor was nothing to praise. Unfortunately, our table was completely out of chili oil too. Poor preparation despite them having time to refill condiments before opening. Looking back on this meal, I feel like this place exists to take advantage of ignorant people who are willing to pay high prices for less than mediocre food. So happy to have local XLB! When I first walked up, I was worried that I would have a long wait, but luckily it was for the brunch next door. Perfection! So happy to be able to walk in and get service right away- what a pleasant surprise! Lots of parking along the street, which I love.
