Visited back in Oct 2025 when ayce was still $25, now it is $30 pp on weekdays and $33 on weekends but they added ice cream and cheesecake to the ayce menu. For ayce, it is basically the entire reg menu except alcohol, minus the prawn appetizer and pork shrimp dumplings (which might have been sold out). My favs: - xlb pork soup dumplings because it is a steal! I think the quality was better at the beginning of the meal. Near the end or near their closing time, it was less flavorful but still good. Their xlb has a slightly thicker skin than some of the other restaurants but idc cuz I like carbs and the thickness did not take away from the flavor. - shrimp fried rice "wHy ThE RiCE?" you might wonder. but if u have been to any xlb restaurants before... you know it's required for them to have a really good stir fry carb item, be it noodle or rice or rice cakes. So this was a good inquisitive scientific choice to see if that standard holds up. It does. - garlic green beans were tender and slightly charred Honorable mentions: - creamy garlic parmesan shrimp japanese pasta: This item sounded really unique to pass up and was quite good. It's more of a stir fry dry noodle than creamy pasta. Nothing too experimental as the cheese was just sprinkled on top of the noodles (which kinda looked ramen-y) and did not overpower the taste. - boiled lamb and green onion dumplings: I am a lover and this dumpling does taste like lamb without the musky gaminess that people usually complain about lamb, I think. - chocolate bao: Delicious. A great dessert to finish off AND I would say the chocolate quality inside is above average compared to other soup dumplings places that offer similar choco desserts. Things that were okie: - shaomai: Tastes fine. Very standard. - steamed beef dumplings: Has a thinner skin than the boiled dumplings. Does taste like beef and meat was lean. But I'm not sure if I enjoy beef dumplings in general Maybe if I get the pan fried one next time... Slight misses: - cucumber salad: Not spicy, which isn't a deal breaker, but the cucumber was marinated beforehand so it tasted more pickled and quite sour. - woodear mushroom: Similar issue with the cucumber. My third time here, and I now have all my favorites down! Chicken wontons with spicy sauce is not that spicy and the dumpling skin has the perfect bounce to it. Xiao long bao is a tad sweeter than Din Tai Fung, and is a must-try! Shrimp fried rice (put some chicken wontons sauce with this) Beef noodle soup temperature can be hotter so just tell them if you like it piping hot like I do. Beef potstickers are tasty too and the extra crispy dumpling skin on the bottom are best enjoyed right in the restaurant to maintain the crispiness. Neighborhood gem! Ahhh if you're a dumpling lover, you NEED to visit Dumpling Bar! They offer an AYCE and à la carte menu (psssst go for the ayce). It's honestly a steal compared to how much dumplings cost at other places. I recommend you get here early because the queue stacks up quick! The all you can eat menu also includes an ice cream bar, desserts, water, and soda. My faves are the cucumber salad, pork xlb, wagyu potstickers, and ofc the chicken wontons in chili sauce. Try them! Since so many foodie influencers have been raving about Dumpling Bar, including one sitting right across from us filming his video (ahem, Mike the Munch, we see you!) We decided we had to check it out for ourselves. We usually prefer supporting smaller local spots like Mama Lu's or Prince Dumplings over big chains like DTF, but unfortunately, our experience at DB didn't live up to the hype. Most of the dishes were quite bland, and some of the baos even seemed to be steamed from frozen. Something the influencers don't mention about the weekday AYCE deal is that you can only order two items per person at a time. The four of us started with eight items, then added five more once we were almost done. Out of everything we tried, the only dish that had any real seasoning was the bok choy. The green beans lacked garlic flavor, the char siu and custard baos tasted frozen, and both the spicy wontons and cucumbers oddly had the same flavor profile. The XLBs were underwhelming, and the pork cutlet on the dan dan noodles was a nugget, nothing like the large, crispy one featured in Mike's video. To top it off, we noticed that while the influencer was able to pack up the many leftover items, we weren't allowed to take home our two remaining dumplings. Like many of the reviews I received terrible service. Came on a week night and restaurant had one empty table left for four people. I had a party of 2 so I guess they wanted to leave it open for a bigger party. Server asked me to put my name on a list and I wait just outside. A couple parties leave and as she is cleaning up the tables a wave of new customers start walking in. To my surprise they were seated right away...I ask the server right away if she was going to call me when my table was ready because I clearly got here before these other customers. She lies and says she called my name but I know for a fact she didnt even bother to look at this list she had me sign up on as I was waiting right outside the glass window. Food was alright pretty decent for $30 ayce the best item was the wagyu potstickers. We ordered a chocolate bun that took 30 mins to arrive. We tried to pay and leave since it was taking too long but the server ended up slamming it on our table. I will not be returning unless they find more staff and more training. read more

This review was for my visit on Friday evening, Oct. 31. My friend and I arrived at around 6:30pm, and we noticed that the interior is small and quiet. It's not obvious on their menu, but through social media I saw the $25/person AYCE option (as of the Oct. 31 date), which was why my friend and I came. My friend and I tried a lot of dishes, and here are our thoughts: Boiled Dumpling - tastes like the normal standard dumpling you'd expect. Nothing wrong at all. Potsticker - I like the flavor of this one, but wished it was a more crispy. Spicy Chicken Wonton - Wonton tasted good, but I wasn't a fan of the sauce. It was slightly vinegary, very very mildly spicy, and mostly sweet. My friend (who cannot tolerate spicy) was surprisingly able to eat it and have no issues with the spice at all. Har Gow - The dumpling wrapper is thinner than my preference (I like thicker), but overall a solid shrimp dumpling. Dan Dan Noodle w/ Pork Cutlet - Would not recommend. The Pork Cutlet was super thin and greasy, which made it hard to eat. The noodles were perfectly cooked, but I wasn't a fan of the sauce; it was a bit too runny. Shao Mai - This one tasted good and was a solid dumpling. Xiao Long Bao - The dumpling skin is just a tad thicker than what I'm used to, but overall I liked it. The soup was also delicious. Shrimp Fried Rice - The fried rice itself was very peppery, in fact that was basically all I was tasting. The shrimp itself had a nice caramelization flavor, but was overcooked/rubbery. Lamb Dumpling - Light on the lamb flavor, which is good since lamb can get overpowering sometimes. Garlic Green Beans - I would love to rate this dish higher for the flavor alone, but my friend and I were confused why it was served cold. Definitely would have tasted so much better if it was served warm. Overall, all the dishes were average for my experience. Nothing in particular blew me away. Parking: street parking. There are some slanted street parking in front of the store The AYCE occurs only during the weekday. Last call is at 1:20 for lunch. There aren't that many seats so come early. It is very spacious and they can accommodate parties of 5 or more but may require a wait. It takes a while for the food to come out so I suggest ordering enough. The xiao long bao was hand made and juicy. It came in a set of 6. You have to ask for the vinegar and chilli oil. It seems that it is made to order so it takes a while for it to come out. 5/5 The potstickers are very vinegary. There is only person handling the food, tables and seating so it sat in the kitchen and was soggy when we got it. It is very juicy so it can squirt. It was nice that the skin was not too thick. 4/5 The chicken wonton was not that spicy. It was more soy sauce vinegar with a hint of chilli oil. I wouldn't get it again. 3/5 The cucumber was very fresh. It is cut and chili oil is poured on top. The amount of cucumbers seems to vary. 4/5 The dan dan noodles had no peanut flavor. She's superwoman to still get us refills on waters and explain popular menu dishes with everything going on. I think they need to invest in more staff and not burn her out... We decided to visit Dumpling Bar after having passed it several times before and it coming up on social media as a "hot new dumpling spot in LA" (it's in San Marino). It may look closed since the restaurant name isn't lit up, but it is open to 8 PM except for Tuesdays. The interior is clean and minimal. There is comfortable enough space for parties up to 6-8 people, in my opinion. The menu is only in English, but the server speaks Mandarin. We decided to sample a variety of dishes: Cucumbers $6.99- This was disappointing. It was the laziest way to serve this dish, which is very easy to make. They served thick, round slices of cucumbers and dabs of chili oil instead of smaller, bite slices, and it lacked substantial garlic and oil sauce. Anyone can make this dish at home, much better than this. Scallion Pancakes $7.99- This was quite good, with a crunch in every bite and rich in flavor, though a bit salty. Creamy Garlic Parm Prawn Japanese Pasta $17.99- What creaminess? It's a tasty enough dish, but no creamy sauce is to be found, and the prawns are under-seasoned and overcooked. Xiao Long Bao $9.99- This was the best dish here, but they only serve six dumplings. The verdict? Sorry, don't listen to the media hype. It's pricier, with smaller servings, and less quality and authenticity than many other restaurants. Found this little gem online and decided to give it a try. DUMPLING BAR was hidden behind another restaurant with big red umbrellas. A small quiet, clean shop in San Marino. Service was prompt and we were seated quickly. Got the spicy cucumber to start and the scallion pancakes. I like the crisp crunch of the spicy cucumbers, but it was lacking on the flavor and spice. The scallion pancake was on the thicker side, but so flavorful! There was a beefy flavor which leads me to think it was fried in beef tallow. Charsiu bao was to thick on the dough, but the filling was good. XLB were juicy and delicious and the siumai texture and taste was on point! Really wanted to love this place, as I heard it was the same style and management as China Max in San Diego. Unfortunately, my experience left me extremely disappointed, and I think I'd just stick to China Max if I'm ever craving AYCE dim sum. Our party of 5 came around 6 pm. There was a short waitlist, and we waited outside for around 15 minutes to be seated. Seating for large parties seems to be pretty limited, so keep that in mind. You get to order 3 dishes per person and a 90 minute time limit. Our first order canoe promptly, though it was missing our order of chicken wonton. Everything was standard, with the truffle XLB and cucumber salad standing out. My problem arose from how long it took for our server to come check in on us and ask for our second order. I don't entirely blame him, as he was the only person serving, food running, and bussing (something for management to keep in mind next time). However, this is a small place, and one can easily see whether or not a table needs assistance or a check in. There were multiple parties that he approached before us that had already ordered before AND after us, while we were still waiting around for him to ask us to order again. It was around 20 minutes before I decided to stand up and personally ask him to come to our table so we could order again. If this was a regular sit down restaurant, a wait is fine, but in this AYCE format where you are time limited, then it matters. In the end, we just decided to place one more round, so in total two, feeling like we did not make the most of the AYCE deal. Highly disappointed in this experience here, as I was assuming that it would be similar to China Max. Menu is almost identical, but service is severely lacking. Come at your own patience. read more

I stopped by this retaurant one day when I was passing by and needed a snack. I was not goint straight home and did not want to eat in since I had errands to do. So I just opted to pick up a snack. I got the hnd rolled egg rolls which had a more natural shape and was loosely rolled. I enjoyed the filling very much and it seemed to have a small amount of meat for flavoring as well as a dipping sauce. It was a bit on the oily side, but I can't complain about that ordering a deep fried dish. They had my favorite roasted chili olil sauce, which I always enjoy on the side. I look forward to going back to try more of the menu, including the dumpling. The ambiance of the restaurant is very nice with retro modern furniture and calming colors. Sad to say today's visit was kind of disappointing, would I still come back sure, but will I crave this place like I did before probably not. The food now has so much MSG, it's like salt overload in your mouth, went home and was thirsty throughout the night. Everything isn't as good as it used to be. Is it still worth the price sure. The cucumber salad this time lacked the flavor it used to have, the shrimp fried rice, still flavorful but also drenched in MSG, compared to before they don't give you as much shrimp with the fried rice anymore. Avoid this place. We walked in and simply asked if we could sit in a particular seat. The employee who greeted us was incredibly rude, dismissive, and completely unwelcoming. From the moment we walked in, his attitude made us feel like we were an inconvenience rather than customers. The entire vibe immediately felt uncomfortable and negative. I had a great experience at Dumpling Bar. All of the food was excellent and everything we ordered came out fresh and flavorful. One thing I really liked is that you can order as many dishes as you want at once, which makes it easy to share and try a variety of items with your group. The only drawback was the wait time. We were told the wait would be about two hours on a Sunday. My party of three arrived around 5 pm and the restaurant was completely packed. In the end, we waited about an hour and a half for a table. While the wait was long, it was understandable given how busy they were, and the food definitely made it worth it. Overall, great food and a lively atmosphere. I really wanted to like this place, as it could have been a good spot for XLB and other similar DTF foods, but I was ultimately disappointed. I walked in at 6:50pm after work and the server initially tried to refuse us, saying it was already last call. We were shocked as the dinner hour had basically just started. She only let us sit because we chose a la carte instead of the AYCE option. It wasn't just us, either; we saw a couple of other parties being turned away as early as 7:10pm. Regarding the food, we ordered the spicy oil chicken wonton and the Dan Dan noodle with the fried pork cutlet. If you judge these by the standards of authentic spicy oil wontons or Dan Dan noodles, they were far from it. However, if you just asked me if the food was tasty, it was actually good--just not what the names suggested. The biggest issue was the quality. We saw dishes being served to other tables that looked like pre-bought freezer food, specifically the buns and dumplings. We even overheard the table next to us complaining that two different dishes were still cold in the middle after being served. They did offer complimentary ice cream and cheesecake, but the cheesecake was clearly those same frozen, pre-bought types. When asked verbally, the server actually confirmed that the cheesecake was just pre-bought. It seems like everything is just pre-bought and heated up in the restaurant. Also, be careful with your bill. They automatically add a 15% service charge without stating it anywhere on the menu or letting you know verbally. With 6 of us, we practically tried every item on the menu, including the desserts. First of all, we went at 11 am when they first opened and they told us that they did not have the braised beef soup noodle, which was a big disappointment!!! After a couple different noodles and a few steamed/fried dumplings and dim sums, everything seemed to taste the same! The wagyu beef in the dumpling was a little dry! So was the pork in the shao mai! The cucumber salad was not up to par as I expected; this was one dish they could have made ahead of time so the flavor would soaked in, but this was just sauce poured over freshly cut cucumber pieces, which was not very tasty! A friend mentioned this place to me so we decided to make it a group outing and try it. Dumpling Bar was such a great deal for AYCE dumplings (as well as other menu items). Dumpling Bar is located along Huntington Dr., and is located between the Mari Vees and Chapresso. Parking could be difficult as there is street parking along Huntington Dr., but best safe bet might be parking in the neighborhoods down Roanoke Rd or San Marino Ave (but definitely check you're able to street park along those streets). We lucked out and got a spot right in front of the shop. The space itself is very small so it's not great for large groups...we had a group of 10 which luckily when we went it wasn't too busy and we took up two tables. There are tables on the left and right sides but each table comfortably would seat around 4-5 people. There is also one gender neutral single use restroom in the back corner. The menu is very simple, with a variety of dumplings, limited dim sum items, and noodles. Drink (including canned sodas and bottle waters) are all inclusive if your party decides to do the AYCE route, with desserts included. The only thing that costs extra at the time we went was the scallion pancake and beer. Service is excellent, there were two ladies taking orders and also serving the entire room and they were absolutely amazing. I feel like with the small space, it works so that the staff can adequately serve everyone in an adequate way. They were friendly and fast, the kitchen pumps out the dishes in what I thought was quick. Everything is made to order so they come out fresh and steaming, the only thing served cold that we had were the garlic green beans, which by the way, were amazing. Simple side dish but crisp bite and seasoned perfectly. Xiaolong Baos were juicy and flavorful. The beef and chicken dumplings were also juicy and filling. I added chili crisp to almost every bite it was delicious. We wanted to try the pork cutlet without the fried rice or noodles as we were super full and weren't able to eat more carbs, and they gave us just the cutlets which were lightly breaded but seasoned so well too with a slight sweetness in the pork. Dessert is self serve ice cream and some dessert buns and cheesecake slice on the menu. Price wise. I think it's so worth the AYCE as opposed to the a la carte menu because 2-4 items total to what we paid per person. Because we had a large group, there was an auto gratuity added of 18%. But per person it was about $42. I think we went at a good time as it wasn't too busy but the space fills up as it is small like I mentioned. So definitely best to go right when they open up at 11am. Came here for the first time. Food is piping hot and very well prepared. We came on a Thursday night and the restaurant was not very crowded, so the service of food was prompt. Not that it matters, but individual portions were very generous. This is not the sort of AYCE experience where you sit hungry for 30 minutes between orders. Favorite dishes were the XLB and the har gao. This is one of the few places where the XLB are more than extra moist pork dumplings. Was a huge fan. All you can drink soda included. Even if it was a la carte, I'd want to come back. Server said they switched ownership recently, and it shows. Tons of street parking, which was a nice plus. read more

I didn't even get to sit down or try the food. I visited on a Friday during lunch time. Who knew everyone else was off that day or was on their lunch break? It was super busy outside and in the restaurant, so I assumed everyone was waiting to get a seat. I was also willing to wait but when we came in, before I could say anything, the employee rushed toward me, waving me away, shouting "we're closed!", in front of a fully packed restaurant. The restaurant is clearly not closed since it was 11:47 am when I arrived. She was so rude, whoever she was. It was an embarrassing experience as we walked out, with an entire restaurant full of customers staring at us. I won't be coming back. The polite thing to do would have to give us an estimated wait time right? Or am I asking for too much? read more

Nice mom and pop shop but it was a bit rough eating here in the heat because there was zero AC. No spicy food eaten but I was sweating profusely and so was the staff from being inside. Hopefully that's just a temporary thing because it'll be rough eating here in the summer. Anyways, onto the food. It met standard but admittedly it didn't blow me away, hence the 4 stars. Scallion oil cake was nice and chewy while retaining the layers. The xiaolongbao dumplings met expectation as well with a good ratio of meat to soup inside. Finally, their special chilled noodles weren't what I expected but it did the job for a hot day. I wished it was a little colder but it was basically buckwheat noodles with a hint of miso in the broth I think and some beef and shrimp. read more
