Lets start with the welcoming and friendly service to the homemade and freshly made salsa ‍. I had 2 rounds of the salsa alone; its soooo good. I ordered the strimp chimichangas & let me tell you ... the cook put his foot in it. I never had a chimi so good in my life. Im on vacation but if I lived down here, I will probably visit this place every other day. The strimp tacos was also bomb. The strimp are cooked to prefection. So kind of an unfair review but still important. The poeple seemed nice in the restaurant but after sitting down and looking at the 2 page menu we decided to get up and leave. My favorite part about Mexican food is not having to pay big America prices but El charro in VB has sadly no bargains or deals. It seemed that each item on the menu was about $13 or more and the queso that is a must was about $8. Just comparing the prices to other local Mexican food places will tell you El charro is most definitely charging the tourist prices, even on off season to the locals! I'm sure the food is good but after a review of their menu you will realize they are trying to scam. Also after looking at other reviews they will include a tip on the final bill regardless of service. Good luck El Charro! Maybe a lunch menu could help? read more

Not very authentic Mexican food. From the salsa to the chimichangas, neither had any taste. I had never had a chimichanga that wasn't fried. The margarita had little if any tequila. Must be a little too far North of the southern border. read more

If you're in the mood for Mexican Food, this is by far the best place in town. Great prices and the food and drinks are PERFECTION. I cannot recommend the tacos al pastor enough. The coconut margarita was spot on; the perfect balance of coconut and tequila. Very friendly staff, comfortable tables, a nice bar, and plenty of options. I was a little apprehensive after reading some of the previous reviews but after going, I honestly have no idea what they are talking about. The service was great, and the food was even better. There was no 10% service fee like a few of the previous reviews mentioned. We got the enchiladas supreme and burrito al pastor. Both were exceptional. The enchilada sauce looked and tasted homemade. Really really good. I definitely recommend this place and don't understand the current rating. read more

We came in as a party of 3 and noticed the place looked a little shoddy. It's next to a motel (?) and the windows face a swimming pool so you can see people swimming. When the server wrote our orders down, he already seemed a bit flustered. I ordered the El Charro Steak which was advertised to be an 11 oz. New York Strip steak. Shortly after, he had to come back and ask me if it was the El Charro Steak or chicken. I confirmed it was the steak and he went on his way. We also ordered 3 Carnitas Tacos. Another server came to drop off the food and gave me the Charros Burrito and 3 Carne Asada tacos. We corrected him, he said okay, and took the burrito away. A few seconds later that same server came back and argued that we ordered the burrito and again we had to correct him. Smh. 10 minutes later, our server returns with the actual El Charro steak. The thing is not 11 oz. The size of it was about 6 oz. and definitely not a New York Strip Steak. The meat was cheap y'all. We also had to tell him that the tacos were still wrong. He looked confused and took the Carne Asada tacos back. About 5 minutes later he came back with the Carnitas Tacos. The aftertaste after the initial bite was awful. This entire trip was full of mistakes. The worst part was when the check came. THEY CHARGE 15% ADDITIONAL GRATUITY AFTER $50. The entire place is a scam. Do not come here. This food is horrible and the service is below par. Please save your time and money. "El Charro" is a blight upon Virginia Beach. read more

We live in the neighborhood behind the restaurant and we frequent here about once every two weeks. The food is always on the point and the drinks are super delicious. They also give you complimentary chips and salsa and the salsa is so refreshing. Some of our favorite things to order are the mixed fajitas because they're a perfect shareable for the whole table while we wait for our main meals. The shrimp cocktail is a tasty light fair, the tomato sauce it sits in is masterfully made and has a great blend of flavors and as a bonus you get great sized shrimp and I was happy that they filled the cup up with shrimp and didn't skimp like most places will with seafood. The burrito California was amazing and smothered in cheese sauce which just blew it away with flavor. There birria tacos were pretty good considering we're on the east coast. Almost as good as the ones I had in Houston! I highly recommend stopping by here we've been all hours of the day and the food is always on point. Our favorite place is to sit at the bar and watch them make drinks and it has a nice atmosphere at night with the music. Staff is always friendly! read more
