This Mexican food restaurant has been in the community for a very long time. I am pretty sure it's a family run and the food is excellent! I would give five stars but when it gets extremely busy, which is most of the time, the servers seem to get a little snappy and can come across as rude. It is very small so it gets a little Overwhelming when that place is packed. Although normally at some point during your dining, one of the family will usually come over and ask you how everything is. They have a full bar but I would stick to margaritas. They don't have a bartender, just servers that make your drinks as you order them. I wish they could move into a bigger establishment that could accommodate the crowd they bring in. read more

Huge portions great service. There is a line wrapped around the corner but the food isn't the greatest Mexican food. They had hugged peppers and onion chunks throughout the enchiladas. Chicken was kinda bland and overcooked in both in the enchilada and taco. Rice was good beans were good. I hate cilantro so my biased opinion is that the salsa had wayyy too much cilantro. Went to El Zarape for the 100th time and the food was absolutely OUTSTANDING the service was also great except that once we were seated it took something like twenty minutes to get service. Another party, seated a few minutes after me and my mother were seated, ordered and got their food before anyone ever came to our table to take our order. We finally asked someone walking by how much longer it might be to place our order and then we finally had our order taken. Literally flys in our food noting our arms neck and legs. Not 1 fly 29-30 they claim the race tracks are brining in the flys. That the owners of the property won't return the phone calls. I came in to have dinner with my family and the girl that went to seat us was very rude. Took a while to give our drink orders but did get our food relatively quickly. I did,however, learn that you don't get drink refills or any attention unless you are a regular. My sister had to find them to get a to-go box, the bathrooms were occupied the whole time and no one ever came out. I was very disappointed in the experience. My husband is in a wheelchair so not much room to maneuver, so I called and explained my situation. In parking lot, don't want to get my husband out of the car until near time and asked if I could put my name down over the phone. Was informed, no I couldn't. I should come in and get on the list. We actually didn't have the opportunity to experience the food at El Zarape. We put in our name and were told there would be a 15 minutes wait. After waiting 20 minutes, my husband noticed that they were seating a couple that put their name on the wait list after us. When he asked the hostess she stated that they texted two people at the same time (why would you do that?) he explained that we never received a text and even showed her his phone. She made no apologies, just excuses. There are too many other restaurants to be treated so rudely. read more

My partner and I have been visiting El Zarape for several years now, introducing a loved one one visit at a time. You can expect to wait, but I promise it's worth it. The customer service is always exceptional. The staff is always smiling and beyond helpful. Their beverages and alcohol cocktails are all unique and thirst quenching. We went to the new one on Katella. Nice big outdoor waiting area and with a waiter taking drink orders which is nice. Once seated, we were on the wall area that separates from the outside grass area where they are waiting for their tables. Flys were all around us the entire dinner. Very annoying. I recommend eating away from that area. It would be nice if they had screens as opposed to nothing separating you from the outdoors. My food was great. I had taco enchilada and chili relleno. Love it. My iced tea had alot of this weird stuff floating all in it. I asked a waitress about it and she looked dumbfounded about it and said the machine must be broke. She never brought me a new one. I had to ask a busboy to bring me a new one. I will go back as I did like the food. Ill sit more inside next time. Give it a try, I think you will like it. Forgot how good this place is!!! Place was buzzin on a Tuesday evening. Friendly staff. Chips were fresh and crispy and the salsa had just the right amount of kick. Food came quickly and was delicious. Asada burrito was bomb! Big & Meaty! Flavor of the Chili Verde tacos was amazing and right up there with some of the best I have ever had. First off, let me say the food is the best here. When the family that owns the restaurant is here, the service is excellent. That said, the last time I was in the service was terrible and the front door was left open for the flies to enjoy my meal. This is a real deal breaker for me and my family. I always saw this place get recommend in different community groups that I was in, but I never thought it would live up to the hype... I was wrong, very wrong. The food and service here were both excellent, and I look forward to coming back to try more of the menu. I came on a Saturday at 3pm, and the restaurant is super tiny, so there was a small wait time. It was definitely worth the wait though. We were seated and greeted with chips and salsa. I was really hungry, so I dug right in, and the salsa had more of a kick to it than I was expecting, but it was still pretty mild overall. The chips were super fresh and the salsa had a nice flavor and was really chunky. I am a fan. I ended up ordering the Zarape nachos, and they were smothered in cheese. I was shocked by how much cheese they put on there, but they tasted so good. This was definitely a smart order on my part because I enjoyed the chips so much. They were covered in beans, the stretchy cheese that I mentioned, more salsa, guacamole, sour cream, and pickled jalapeños. Each chip had more than enough toppings. The serving size was plentiful for sure. You could easily share this as an appetizer, but it was very filling as a meal too. The service was excellent. The waiters and waitresses were quick to bring us more salsa as needed, more water before we even needed it, and they were super kind and hospitable asking if we liked everything or needed anything. The food didn't take too long to come out either. You couldn't have asked for better service. I definitely want to come back to try more of the menu. You can't go wrong with El Zarape! They have great food, and the staff is always friendly. They can be a bit busy sometimes, especially for such a small restaurant, but that just shows how popular they are. The hype is for good reason- their food is delicious. I'm dying to try their enchilada, as the table across from us had one on Saturday night and it looked so good. My partner and I love the Zarape Nacho's though, they have the BEST carnitas!
