I ate here a really long time ago but recently came by for takeout after wanting to come by for awhile. I do remember that I ordered a deep dish pie when I ate here and it was really delicious but definitely could not finish it lol. This time I wanted to try a tavern pie and I decided on the hot girl with caramelized onions and the paprika ranch on the side. Two ladies that were sitting in the front ordered it and they said it was incredible. I brought it home for dinner and promptly it went into the air fryer (not the whole pie but a small portion). It was very big (enough for probably 3, 4 people). The pizza was delicious, lots of toppings (they don't skimp here). I loved the cupped pepperoni, it was so good. The hot honey on top gave it a nice sweet and savory vibe. I loved the jalapenos on it, but beware, they keep the seeds in. Definitely would go back again, maybe to get deep dish again. read more

We were so excited to try the deep-dish pizza that people were talking about. The place always seemed so crowded. We went right before lunch ended so we were seated right away in their outdoor seating. Their indoor seating is a little small. We ordered the Cheese Louise which has a caramelized cheese crust and we added sausage, pepperoni, and spinach. We were disappointed by the lack of flavor and cheese in the pizza. It also took a very long time to come out. The crust was also very tough and made the dish even more greasy which left a very unpleasant feeling. Although they are known for their deep dish, the spotlight was on the thin crust. We ordered the Hot Girl which was delicious and the best thing we had there. Emmett's has been on my radar for a long-time. On Saturday night, I stopped in with three friends, and we were lucky to score seats at the bar. Reservations are highly recommended as this is a small establishment. My partner and I shared an Italian beef sandwich to start. The pickled peppers were spicy, a good sign of things to come. We drizzled on the jus and made only a small mess. I liked this sandwich a lot, and the fries were greasy and delicious. For the main course, a 10" deep dish with soppressata, red onions, and jalapeños. It takes a while to bake but the results can't be disputed. The crust has unbelievable structural integrity, supporting a lot of weight while staying crispy. Our toppings worked perfectly together, and the sauce and cheese brought it all together for a smashing finish. I wish my stomach (and my wallet) could allow me to eat everything on the menu. I suppose next time I'll try one of their gorgeous Chicago dogs. People rave about the flat pies, but I'm gonna need a lot more deep dish before I even consider it. read more

And the green pepper in the patty just made no sense to the burger. This is my first time trying the deep dish pizza, therefore there is no comparison for me to measure whether it was a good deep dish pizza. I could only say that I like the cookie-like crunchy crust. However the topping and cheese just short in flavor. I could only taste the tomato sauce. I would say I love the authentic New York pizza in those hyped pizzerias more than this. We chose the chips with the sandwich, and they come out warm, fresh, and crisp. The pizza prices are in line for the neighborhood, but a little high for NYC. The other prices are in line for NYC. Service is good to very good. We'll go again. TIP Emmets is 11 minutes walk from Toad Hall, a very old school bar with prices lower than usual for the neighborhood. We like that bar for Happy Hour. TIP the Hot Papi features fresh jalapeños. You might find this too hot. A pepperoni and giardiniera combo probably has enough heat for you. TIP the ambience is very basic. Cool spot for Chicago deep dish pizza. In a world of NY style thin crust, this place is a breath of fresh air for a thick crust pizza lover like me. The restaurant is small so I would recommend having a reservation or snagging a seat at the bar. The deep dish takes awhile to bake (30-40mins) so make sure to plan accordingly. My boyfriend and I got the garlic bread and the smallest deep dish pizza which was more than enough food for the both of us. We were able to customize the pie half and half and it came out piping hot and fresh. The pizza was thick, juicy, filled with toppings, and of course came with a glamorous cheese pull which our waiter expertly served so I could film. As someone who wasn't the biggest fan of deep dish before visiting this place, I was pleasantly surprised. I liked this deep dish better than what I've tried in Chicago! We got a 12" cheese Louise (caramelized cheese crust only served before 6pm) with sausage, bacon and caramelized onion and the hot poppy thin crust for three people and it was the perfect amount of food. Would highly recommend both of them! The deep dish crust was the perfect thickness with a little doughiness. The cheese Louise crust is a must get with its perfectly cheesy crunch. The only thing that would have made it better would have been more caramelized onions but it was already pretty tasty. Emmett's is located just south of Houston, its the only Chicago deep dish pizza place that I know of in NYC. It's been a while since I've been here. Honestly, it's probably been at least 4 years. I guess the reason I haven't been here in a while is you have to come with at least 2 people. Chicago deep dish isn't a meal you can go alone or even with just one other person. I made reservations a week in advance and luckily I picked indoor instead of outside. It's hot as hell in New York right now. We started with the arugula salad and a bottle of Riesling. Our waiter gave us some comp fried mozzarella since the wine took a while to chill. The mozzarella was so good! Nicely breaded and the marinara was perfect. The arugula salad was pretty good. It had walnuts and apple slices. A very summer salad. When it came to the pizza, we were trying to figure out if we wanted a medium size (12") or a large pizza (14") to share between the 4 of us and we decided on getting the 14" Gabe Froman which has spinach and is half pepperoni and half sausage. When the pizza came, it was glorious. The waiter served us all a slice each, but I wish the pizza sat a little longer so it didn't spread so much. I started with the pepperoni and it was super cheesy and very saucy. The crust was pretty thick. You definitely have to eat this pizza with a knife and fork. The pizza is just overall very rich. By the time I got to my sausage slice, I was already pretty full. I actually preferred the pepperoni over the sausage. I didn't find the sausage very flavorful, but maybe it's because I was forcing myself to finish the meal which I ended up called it quits half way into my slice. I think for the 4 of us, we could have gotten away with the 12" pie. We were completely stuff after. I'll probably come back again! Interested to try the thin crust. read more

Delicious deep dish pizza. I've been craving real, non-chain, deep dish pizza for years so I'm glad I happened upon Emmett's. The location is great, right near all the MacDougal Street action. The staff was very helpful too. The sauce was perfect, and the consistency was spot on - not casserole-esque, which is what constantly gets done wrong by people making deep dish pies. Deep dish is my favorite style of pizza, so I was excited to give Emmet's a try. When my friend and I arrived, the hostess was able to seat us immediately without a reservation either at the bar or a table on the sidewalk, so we chose the latter. Our server came by quite quickly before we got a chance to look at the menu so we asked if he could come back and he came back about 2 minutes later so we just decided on the spot and ordered a meat lovers 14" pizza. It took quite a while for the pizza (probably 40 minutes) to come out, although I guess that's to be expected for a deep dish. At that point, the bottle of water at our table was empty so the server took it away. Right after he walked away we noticed that we had received a plain pizza instead of a meat lovers, but we didn't see the server again for a while to be able to tell him. Since we were hungry we decided it was better at that point to just start eating the pizza rather than waiting for them to make a meat lovers like we had ordered. Perhaps if the server had confirmed with us what he had written down for our order this wouldn't have happened. When I grabbed the first slice I realized that the pizza wasn't nearly as deep as I had hoped. When we tasted it, we were both pretty disappointed. My friend commented that it reminded him of the taste of Chuck-E-Cheese pizza, which I don't disagree with. When the server came back again we were finally able to ask for more water. We each ate about 2 and a half slices before being pretty full. Overall, it was upsetting that they had messed up our order, the food didn't taste great, and it ended up being pretty pricey ($40 total for just a plain pizza). One of my pet peeves is when restaurants with a Square terminal have minimum preset option of 20% for the tip, which they did here. Definitely not planning to come back. read more

I went back in March (2022) and found the deep dish slightly undercooked but the thin crust perfection, and on my most recent visit (July 2022), the deep dish was perfection but the thin crust was slightly undercooked at the crust but over cooked from the top... but on both visits, everything tasted good, would just love to see that consistency in execution because I know how good they can be! I love their red sauce, and the salads are a decent nod to some healthy foods at the meal :) Good beer and wine selection, friendly service and takes reservations. I used to order once a week. The "Chicago Style" build you own pizza (Spinach, onion, mushroom) is great. But the Uber eats delivery is always a hot mess! The toppings slide off. They seem to carry it on its side(?). Box totally wet, This time we opted for pick up. Box was still wet! (How? We got there early!) and the Caesar Salad was pathetically anemic. For 14 bucks, at least include more lettuce and cheese? After the last delivery order, I called to "complain" and was told No Photo? Can't help you. Called a week later, and was told they don't deliver to my street. I guess Uber Eats does, and they don't! Disappointed. read more

Ahhh been meaning to check this spot out for few years and finally made it! A very tiny joint but homely and solid service. Start with the Greek salad for sharing. Very fresh, thick cut cucumbers and tomatoes with generous chunks of feta, olives, and red onion mixed with a red wine vinegar. No lettuce present. So good! If you're not coming here for the Chicago deep dish experience, not sure why you're here. Fork and knife required. Tons of chunky tomato sauce on top and stringy mozzarella for days! Pretty tasty but sauce could've used more zest. Crust was thick and dry--sort of grainy. I expected a little more buttery grease but there was none at all. Enjoyed the meal but did not really live up to the long awaited hype (drats)! Half sausage (in crumbly ball form) which was very high quality and delicious, but far and few pieces on there. It's an experience if you're not used to pizza with a fork and knife, so worth the journey but not itching to return immediately. The thin crust looked pretty decent. Took one star off as they messed up our drinks order twice but the waiter Waze super nice about it and corrected it quickly for us. I met my friends at the tiny, rustic Emmett's for dinner the other day, and we sat outside in their heated streetery. Our server was friendly and attentive, always making sure to replenish our table's bottle of water. We began by ordering cocktails, and I started with the Cappelletti Spritz, which was more herbaceous and bitter than an Aperol version. Unfortunately, I was not a big fan, so I switched to a glass of the 2021 Pas de Problème Pinot Noir from Languedoc for my second round. The red wine was extremely dry, so I did not find it to be the best pair with my meal, but it was definitely drinkable. From a food perspective, we started by sharing a bowl of their House-Cut Potato Chips, which were a bit greasy, but did their job of giving us a snack while we waited for another friend to arrive. I would not say that I would have ordered them otherwise, though. Then came the highlight of the meal, which was the 14-inch, thin-crust Big Gay Al pizza that I shared with one of my friends, though a third person could definitely have joined us in the challenge to finish it. The extremely thin crust was topped with Italian beef and spicy giardiniera. Essentially, it was the inside of a Chicago-style beef sandwich generously spread out on top of a pizza crust. Wow, was it delicious! The juicy, thinly-sliced meat and pickled vegetables really added an unique and enjoyable flavor to the marinara-covered base layer. The other folks at the table opted for a meaty, deep-dish pie, which they also raved about. In a sea of pizzerias, Emmett's was definitely a hidden gem that offered a variety of unique crusts and toppings. I would definitely recommend giving it a shot! read more

This was a great spot for deep dish pizza. I had the Cheese Louise with mushrooms and jalapenos added. The crust was incredible, crunchy and full of cheesy goodness. There was a pretty heavy amount of toppings, which I love, and the sauce was also flavorful. One 10 inch pizza was probably enough for three meals, so the portion sizes are also enormous. I can't think of any other deep dish pizza spots in New York and I'd be shocked if there were any that do it close to as well as Emmet's. We started with mozzarella sticks and fries. The fries were controversial. I liked them: crispy, thin, browned with some potato skin. Others thought they were "not that good" but did not provide supporting evidence for their argument. The mozzarella sticks were universally acclaimed. Like Tom Hanks or Betty White. They had a nice seasoning on them. They "aren't like other mozzarella sticks". For our pizza we ordered the Hot Papi, which is on their thin crust menu, but got it as a deep dish. It was incredible. This merging of thin crust and deep dish concepts was an inside tip from Mike, who was our server and was outstanding. At one point there was talk of setting up Mike with a member of our table but unfortunately our friend likes "New York guys" and Mike is "too California". I mean, I get it, we aren't Chicago but for a city that has food from 8000 miles away, I think we'd at least have some more national options in the city. Anyway, I am a huge fan of deep dish and have been wanting to go to Emmett's for a while. Finally went this past weekend and it was just like the deep dish in Chicago really. So freaking cheesy and thick. A medium pie can definitely fill three moderate appetites. You chose your pie and toppings making it completely customized which is great. However, the veggie toppings are a bit on the pricey side... It's a small space with few tables but decent bar seating and no outdoor seating. Finally found a spot for Chicago style Italian beef! I always come to this area and walked right past it without even noticing it. Staff was friendly but the food took almost forever to come. It was a chill vibe tho! The Chicago Italian beef sandwich was quite salty even without the jus. It was soft and apparently "dipped" but it seemed like the jus was just poured on top so I had to dip it myself in the extra jus they provided, which unfortunately made it even saltier than it was already. Would come back when I have the same craving tho--maybe go lighter on the salt in the sauce and more carrots in the pickled veggies? read more

As a Chicago native, emmetts definitely made me happy. I follow their instagram page and knew I had to get their beef and pizza. A bunch of friends and I came and enjoyed the wares. We wanted a beef sandwich, a tavern style pizza, and a deep dish. The beef came out first and the sandwich was juicy and savory. 5 stars for that hot giardinera mix. It really hit the spot. The one negative was the squishy roll encasinf the beef. It was desperately missing the satisfying crunch from a crusty roll. Next came the pepperoni and jalapeno pizza which was the perfect dish. It was crispy and spicy while also tangy from the ranch. At the waiters recommendation, we ordered a large deep dish which was wayyy too much food given the above. I really enjoyed the crust which tasted homemade and was loaded with sauce and cheese. There was a bit of a soggy bottom in the middle of the pizza which I'm not sure can be helped. The manager had the audacity to ask us to pay for the pizza and offered 20% off on pizza "because each of us ate a slice". After two rounds of back and forth, they finally removed it from the check. For what it is, it's alright. My brother, who loves Chicago style deep dish pizza, loved it and he would probably give it a 4. I personally tried a slice of it, and had mostly the tavern style pizza instead. In general, the deep dish is ok. The best thing about the place is the fresh smell from the streets before you get in. The pizza itself is something that probably suits some people's tastes. The crust is super salty, the sauce is fine, but not amazing, there's a ton of cheese and a ton of other toppings. It's well constructed enough that unlike many other Chicago deep dish places (even in Chicago) the crust wasn't so doughy and runny it was raw. So overall, its not bad. (The tavern style pizza was ok, the crust was also super salty, but overall lighter on its feet to eat.) If you're looking for Chicago deep dish in NYC, this probably is one of the only options and probably satisfies a craving.
