Very enjoyable dinner. Frozen margaritas are a bit generic but pleasant in that way. Chips and salsa are incredibly good: love the blended roasted/fresh salsa. Pozole was a Bit more watery than desired but still pleasant. Carne asada platter is generous, with good char on the thin cuts of Loin flap meat, and refried beans are creamy and rich. Carnitas burrito is big and luscious although I'm not sure what the deal is with the watery green sauce (not like a Chile verde or salsa verde) with floating bits of cheese. Another 5 star review for my favorite restaurant in town. Whenever I don't feel like cooking (which is more often than not these days LOL), this place is my go to. My ex used to order the pork shank so now that's one of my favs to get- plus there's always leftovers because they give you so much food! And it tastes just as good, if not better the next day. Also the cheesecake- best kept secret in LB. it's is to die for. The service here is spectacular- they are consistent, kind, and efficient. Been coming here for years and they will always have my business! I need to try their new taqueria, Kikke's next door... looks sooo tasty! I'm in the mood for something spicy. Been coming here for years and the food is consistently good. For this visit however, the service was a bit slow, thus the reason for the 4 stars. However, their Chicken Veracruz is still delicious and I love that you don't have to have it with rice and beans. I'm partial to their sautéed spinach as an alternative and their rice is always perfect. It's always challenging as a vegetarian to have a combo hard shell taco plate made to order with black beans I side and they did not bat a lash at the request. Incredible black bean hard shell taco, cheese enchilada, with r&b on the side. A wine based yummy margarita and he ordered carne asada tacos. The salsa and chips are perfect with a big deep bowl of homemade salsa and perfectly thin chips. The servers continued to notice things you only notice if you yourself have taken pride in top notch service, like low salsa, water, and checking in when you don't have a mouth full of food. I've been coming to Enrique's (including the other location that closed down) for at least 10+ years and I've never experienced the food quality like this . The pozole which I've getting forever was horrible , literally the worst pozole I've ever tasted . It tasted like water - no flavor . I'm so saddened because the pozole was the best here . I don't know if this was because of cost cutting but if so you can tell. My hubby asked how I was still eating it but I don't like wasting food. The burrito we had was good but very little red sauce , the burritos used to be swarming in red sauce . Hopefully if we come back maybe it was just a bad day for their food. read more

Kenji, one of the waiters at my Country Club, recommended the pierna de cerdo - pork shank. I had to try it. However, I also saw that a number of my Yelpies had been here before me. Enriques is on PCH & Loynes in LBC in the same mall as previously reviewed Picarelli's. In addition to the pork shank ($19.50 | creamy tomatillo sauce, off the menu), Enrique's also offers authentic Mexican cuisine like carne en su jugo (Guadalajara). I like places that offer both Americanized and authentic dishes to cater to their client's palates. The pork shank was nothing short of spectacular. It was super tender, and the savory pork contrasted well against the tartness of the tomatillo. The portion was enough for two people with my appetite. Werd, don't eat the chips and salsa beforehand. Save room for the real deal: 5 Stars. Regarding the ambiance, its a long skinny place. I'm pretty sure I didn't see a bar. Nonetheless, it was clean: 4 Stars. Kenji was also my waiter here and his service was excellent. He gave me a habañero sauce to drizzle on the meat just to give it a little kick: 5 Stars. I'm giving this restaurant 5 stars, because it's 5 stars for what it's supposed to be. The salsa is to die for! The refried beans are wonderful. The combinations are flavorful, very tasty, and they give you gigantic portions. The To-Go service is impeccable, sit down inside the restaurant is very good. Cute little restaurant in a nondescript strip mall, but they pack a wallop compared to the bigger Americanized Mexican food franchises. (8/9/2021) It's been a while since we've gone here, perhaps pre-pandemic. Probably 2019 BC (Before Covid, as I'd call it). Wish Yelp allowed 3.5. Fairly decent and have no major complaints about this establishment. Food-wise I could almost rate it a 4 for authentic Mexican food. **Carnitas combo-hubby ordered it, his usual, he loves carnitas & he says it's "pretty darn good". I tried the meat it's well seasoned & oh so tender, along w/ black beans-also flavorful & the Spanish rice is fluffy & delicious, a small serving of guacamole added a rich accompaniment to his platter. **Chicken burrito-for myself & since I'm only eating the chicken, I requested the rest of the ingredients to be on the side. It arrived w/o the sides so perhaps Sandy, our waitress forgot so I just asked for it's sauce on the side. The meat was tender, given that it's breast meat, I was impressed that it was moist & arrived piping hot, tasty. Gave the tortilla to hubby & he definitely appreciated it. Chips & salsa-complementary, wished the chips were at least warm like Acapulco's. The salsa tasted fresh. I especially appreciate that the dishes arrive on hot platters. We went here over the weekend. For one, the lady at the entrance was very considerate and helpful when getting us a table as well as wiping down the high chair for our baby. Our server came with chips and salsa. I could have just sat and ate those all day long ! The salsa was so delicious. The server was attentive, friendly and patient with us. We ordered two combination plates. I got a cheese quesadilla and 2 potato tequitos. My husband got the chicken breast with avocado and flour tortillas. There was not a single item we were disappointed with. I would keep going back again and again for such amazing and authentic food. To top that all off, they seemed to have their own locals there which shows that this establishment has loyal customers ! I know we will be back when we're in the area. read more

Both my friend and I each ordered their tamales combo after a day at the beach. We both were quite hungry and weren't sure if this would be filling enough but boy were we wrong. After eating this, I felt quite satiated and there was even leftovers. They gave us complimentary salsa with tortilla chips for takeout too. I can't believe there's chunks of fresh tomatoes in the salsa! Wow! And the menu is filled with authentic Mexican foods. I highly recommend either the grilled fish tacos, carne asada or steak. Excellent dining experience. I was very pleased with the authentic taste of the food. The service was also very good and commendable. I had the Chili Colorado burrito and man was it tasty. The beef was so moist and tender with a mild kick to it. It was a very large portion to that I couldn't finish it. My wife enjoyed the steak fajitas that were cooked perfectly and with quality meat and vegetables. Our friend had the Paella and that was incredible. Piping hot and full of flavor I think I will try that on my next visit. This is out of the way for me but it's in a nice part of Long Beach and the food was definitely worth a return trip and this will be a regular spot for my wife and I. Before entering Enrique's you'll see many awards from years past about them being voted the Best Mexican Restaurant, but nothing recent. The booths are a bit worn out and the inside is dated. My bf and I really enjoyed the music they were playing over the speaker, and the salsa was delicious. We started with the Queso Fundido con Chorizo. It was a large portion and I was a fan of the chunks of chorizo. I went with the Shredded Beef Burrito. It was gigantic and lasted me 3 small meals. The beef was good but the other burrito components didn't have much flavor. My bf ordered the Chicken Veracruz which claims to be marinated charbroiled chicken topped with salsa, avocado, and melted cheese. The chicken had no flavor and neither of us really enjoyed this dish. Overall we felt that everything could use more flavor, but the salsa and Queso Fundido were a hit. read more
