It's hard to find a good fried chicken place in Eastside. We have been to Ezell for a couple of times and the place is OK. Not as good as Popeye or Church chicken, but for eastside, it's not bad. For main dishes, we got the 8 pieces family meal with 2 side dishes. It was way too big for a 3-person family so we always has leftover to go. You can order the 8-piece to be mixed of spicy and original. Fried chicken. Decent but not superb. Basically better than KFC but less than Church's chicken. The skin is crunch and crispy all right, but the inside is not that tender and juicy. It feels like it's been left on the counter for a little while. Still hot but the inside began to get dry. Be careful of the spicy ones. The spiciness seems to accumulate when you eat more. I didn't feel much for the first piece, but the second one gave me quite a kick. Side dish. Cole slaw is creamy and nice, but got mustard in the dressing so it got a little spicy in the after taste. The potato salad got really good texture but the radish made it kind of sour. The baked bean got that nice smoky flavor. The rolls are impressive though, very fluffy and soft, felt like it melt in your mouth. Deep fried orka and gizzard are pretty good. It's all about the skin, thin, crispy and crunch. Service is mixed. They got two managers. The older guys with white hair was friendly and effective. When the waiting line was too long, her offered free rolls to the customers in the line. The other manager, on the other hand, is not that great. One thing to complain is that their staff needs more training. My wife lost her cell phone that weekend. So she called them to see if any staff saw a phone. First call, they told my wife she had to wait for the manager who was in shift when we had our meal there. Later my wife called again. The first one asked my wife to hold, then nobody answer the phone for 5 mins and they hang up on us. Called again, and whoever answered the phone said, "You cannot talk to my supervisor." Seriously? I've heard Ezell's was the best fried chicken around from a buddy of mine, so I had to stop by now that there is a location in Bellevue. I was very excited at the thought of a fried chicken place so close to home. Unfortunately, I can't trust my friends taste anymore. The chicken wasn't bad, but it wasn't the best fried chicken I've ever had. It was pretty mediocre. I've been here twice now and ordered the fried chicken with some sides. The mashed potatoes and gravy were pretty good, but the macaroni and cheese didn't do it for me. Staff seem very nice, although one of the times I was here they mixed up a lot of the orders, so my food took an exceptionally long time to come out. read more

Ezell's is supposed to be legendary. I've been to the original location in the Central District of Seattle a couple of times. Now that one has opened in Bellevue, there are more opportunities to try their chicken. Except the Bellevue location is virtually identical to the one across from Garfield High School; there are no noticeable differences. Put simply, I can't see any reason to go to either location. This chicken simply isn't that great. It's junk food. The skin on their chicken is particularly crispy, but once you get past that, the meat underneath is nothing special. I also hate how they can't get pricing right. I ordered two pieces of chicken and one roll. This came to $6.01. Not only do they not have enough sense to choose a price that doesn't end in $0.01, but it's ridiculously expensive too. Just go to any supermarket where fried chicken isn't overpriced. read more

I really love chicken! So, when I passed by this place, I knew I had to try it out. I tried it on two different occasions and made sure to order different items, to get a true feel for this place. First, the staff is super friendly and are following the necessary COVID-19 precautions. The items I tried were the chicken tenders, spicy and original chicken, fries, coleslaw, and peach cobbler. The chicken tenders and fries were meh, I wouldn't order them again. However, everything else was DELICIOUS!! I am a fan of the spicy chicken, seasoned to perfection. Kudos on the coleslaw, very tasty. I am from the South, so I LIVE for peach cobbler. Especially when it is done RIGHT. The peach cobbler here is a MUST try! Oh, I almost forgot that you get a yeast roll with your order (Bread is LIFE)!! I deducted a star because I wasn't blown away by my initial order. I was ecstatic to find out they opened up so close to home! When I lived in Renton, I loved going to the highlands to get their chicken (before it was Heaven Sent). Now when I crave this, I don't have to travel down the nasty i405 corridor! One thing can be said about all Ezell's locations (i've been to four of them), the Ezell's chicken recipe is consistent in all locations, it always tastes the exact same, and it is really quality food for not asking for my entire wallet. The bellevue location is the largest with the most seating which is great because when that chicken is fresh out of the fryer, it is really at it's best. i'm not saying don't order this take-out, but it is seriously something else to try it when it is really fresh. Got here with my girlfriend right around 6:30, it was fairly busy but the actual line to order was short, it's kind of a weird set up, but a lot of people were standing around waiting right near the door, so it looked a bit like they were actually in line to order. service was great, we managed to snag a table and the food came out to us within 5-10 minutes of ordering. i even forgot to order hot sauce (there's a nominal charge for sauces, hot sauce included) but the gentleman who brought our food went and got me a small container of it without a fuss. I'm from Seattle & was excited that for a visit home they had opened an Ezell's down the street from the hotel. I now live in the South. I've been spoiled by Southern Fried chicken because Ezell's was a huge disappointment after all the hype of it being a Seattle institution & being hyped by co-workers as comparable. The oil not sure if they are trying to go for special dietary but it is not the oil that you would expect to taste on fried chicken. The skin came off all in one piece which was good so that I could eat the chicken itself. The biscuit was good. The corn & potato salad were standard fare & nothing to write home about. Spicy chicken tenders were tastier, but lacked kick - needs more spice! Otherwise, 50/50 is the way to go (spicy / regular fried chicken). The food was delicious and the staff was very accommodating. We ordered a pound of chicken strips, half spicy half regular, as a combo. The portion was very big and everything was tasty and hot. We realized they had only given us spicy (which my friend can't eat due to stomach issues) and told the staff. They took a look and realized their mistake and brought over an additional half pound of regular strips to add to our order, free of charge. They are also nut free. Ordered chicken tenders and a meal that came with sides. I got the Mac and cheese and the beans. Unfortunately both the sides for me tasted off and weird for some reason. Artificial but also lacking in flavor. That carried on to the chicken itself as well. Very mediocre and lacking in flavor. I had to use a lot of ketchup. Surprisingly, the rolls I quite enjoyed. I wanted honey and/or butter but at .35 I decided it wasn't worth it. I got a honey mustard drop but even that was just a packet size of hidden valley. The fried chicken is just wonderful, and a treat to get a couple of times a year, and they go out of their way to impress with you with portions, but this last time, yesterday, they cooked the chicken in oil that was recently used to cook fish. And so the chicken had this VERY strong odor of fish which was unpalatable, strongly so. Please do not do that, keep the fish oil and the chicken oil separate. I get that you're really busy, but this should not happen. It is not one of the things you should ever let slide. Love. Edit: I ordered through Doordash, and this is the closest Ezell's, but it's possible the chicken did not come from this location, the app doesn't tell me with certainty which one it came from. Still, I leave the review so that all Ezell's know not to not do this. Smell is about half of the experience. The spicy fried chicken was very good. I was less enamored with the chicken-tenders, but the batter is slightly crispier than most restaurants. The spicy batter was tasty without being too hot. I liked the Mac & Cheese, but the Mashed Potatoes didn't do anything for me. I think the staff is still getting used to the new place; the ordering process was a little cumbersome, but the food came out fast. The restaurant was nearly empty at 11:15 on a Saturday. I've been to a few locations across the region and find them reasonably chicken consistent. It's nice to have an alternative to Popeye's very corporate and zesty approach and something a bit more down home. Their chicken and the difference in preparation can be a nice change too. I usually get the tenders lunch special and either potatoes or mac n cheese. While their biscuit is more of a dinner roll at least its fresh. It gets pretty busy at lunch with all the tech guys being let out of their cages at the same time. All in all I like Ezell's and would rather be there than the bigoted chicken sandwich place with limp waffle fries. read more

My eight piece chicken contained six pieces. Each piece was a wad of soft, wet breading wrapped around dry, meatless gristle. Imagine a used gym sock with some twigs in the middle. The fried okra was cold, flavorless, and had no texture. Think mushy peas, but with less texture and flavor. I am not a big fan of KFC, but Ezell's is half the food, a third the quality and twice the price. read more

Wow, this was bad. As in, one of the worst meals I've ever ordered bad. Had the 4 piece dark meat combo, half regular and half spicy, roll, mashed potatoes, Cajun fries, and peach cobbler. The chicken was REALLY crispy on the outside, and reasonably juicy inside. The Cajun fries had decent flavor/seasoning, but that's where the positives end. Neither the regular nor the spicy chicken had any flavor whatsoever. Had the faint taste of grease, but other than that, was just bland, bland, bland. Was like they didn't even use salt or basic seasoning at all. The fries weren't crisp, just soft and limp. Potatoes and gravy were watery and also incredibly bland. Rolls were meh, basically out of a package from the store. Cobbler isn't even what I'd describe as a cobbler (crumbly, crispy, buttery), the top was almost like badly done puff pastry and the only flavor you could get was clove, to the point where my tongue was basically numb after two bites. Okay if you haven't tried Ezell's then grab your coat and go NOW. It's my favorite spot to grab fried chicken (or chicken tenders if you're not about all those bones). I don't know what their secret is, but it's not the kind of chicken where you get sick of it after one or two pieces. It's always crispy on the outside and moist on the inside - I can confidently say I've never had a dry piece of chicken from Ezell's . My favorite side is the mashed potatoes and gravy but I always get 'slaw and Mac and cheese as well. The reason? Well, you'll get rolls (which are muffin-shaped) and if you pull the rolls apart and fill them with chicken, 'slaw, Mac and cheese and mashed potatoes/gravy you'll feel like your stomach has died and gone to heaven. Finally tried Ezell's after years of hearing about them, and happened to be in the neighborhood. Liked all the food a lot! Chicken pieces were BIG, crunchy outside and juicy inside. Tried Ezell's for the first time on a recent trip to Washington and ended up having it twice because it was so good. The spicy tenders definitely have a nice kick and the chicken is really flavorful and juicy. We also tried the regular tenders which were good, but spicy is the way to go. As for sides, the bread they offer is equally as delicious! read more

Service is always quick, and I'm always tempted to get fried okra! We like to split the 1/2 pound of tenders with mac & cheese, and mashed potatoes. It's about right for two people. I also ordered a kids chicken tender meal as original but some reason, we got half original and half spicy, with two of the tenders as spicy so my child couldn't eat it. I've been trying to have lower expectations during Covid bc I'm grateful that people are out there working in restaurants and getting exposed to so many people while I can safely WFH, but this was seriously a one star meal for $45.
