Haven't been to Far Bar in ages! Wonderful experience. My friends and I sat outside...it was a perfect evening with cozy ambiance, attentive service, and delicious food. I was most impressed with the staff's teamwork. Our group interacted with a number of staff throughout the night. Staff helped each other to take care of their customers. I have never been to Far Bar and after what they did to my friend I never plan on stepping foot in this establishment. My friend had booked this place for his wedding rehearsal dinner over five months ago, and now just two weeks before the dinner the manager told him they had cancelled their reservation for a bigger party. Not only that, but the manager went about this cancellation by ignoring all of my friend's emails for over a week. I understand times are tough and businesses have to make money, but the lack of integrity and communication really shows what this bar thinks of their customers. I refuse to give a dime to a place with such scummy business practices. I hope you do the same! read more

Friend had a rehearsal dinner booked here for months. Two weeks before, the owner gets cagey on him, avoiding contact despite repeated attempts at outreach. Then management abruptly tries to move our party to their other patio--the one we pointedly hadn't booked--and why? Because they got a bigger party, and I guess that makes our long-standing reservation null and void. Businesses have to make ends meet, but screw any place whose management is so lacking in character as to not honor an agreement and not even be upfront about it. I used to frequent Far Bar, and I was so happy my friend had chosen it for his rehearsal dinner. But after this, they're not getting another dollar out of me, and they shouldn't get your money, either. Go somewhere the management will actually respect you. read more

Definitely recommend you sit outside if you go here. There's a secret entrance way through a small alley where it brings you to the outdoor seating. It's between two brick wall buildings and they have a screen that plays various videos throughout the night. Really pretty! Great place to go at night since they're open pretty late. If you come here I would recommend you come for only drinks. The food is reasonably priced but not worth it. Sushi is subpar and the Thai curry was honestly really boring. It is AX weekend and the entire Little Tokyo village are packed. All restaurants are neither sold out or have a mile long waiting list. Then, miracle happened. We saw this pair of cool looking couple walked into this not so obvious back alley entrance. We were curious, so we followed. What we got is this cool back alley bar restaurants with strings of light hang across the top. What a scene. Keeping story short, The price is decent for little tokyo. I have frequented FarBar since pre-pandemic. The service and food has steadily declined over the years, but tonight takes the cake! My husband and I ordered an appetizer and an entree each. The appetizer arrived and my husband got his entree (a salad), but my food (fish tacos) never came. The server never checked on us to make sure we had what we needed and the place was EMPTY. We finally chased him down to ask about my meal and that's when he told us they were out of fish. Poor service and poor food. The last time I was here I ordered the ramen and it tasted like tomato soup. I won't be coming back anymore. read more

In the past couple of months I've gone in twice around 5 o'clock for a drink and some bat food. Each time I sat almost directly in the middle of the front bar at the counter. 15 MINUTES in a bar with maybe 9 patrons, while the bartender is talking with another employee and making 1 drink. Every other patron looks over at me and mouths...."WTF?" until I leave. Ii have been here dozens of times, I love this place, and I am a patient man. I've been meaning to try this place for ages now and finally met up with a friend here for happy hour. First I will say that parking is not the easiest. If you can find a meter, they go until 8pm but I ended up paying almost $14 in parking. Meters are only two hours at a time so you have to go and refill the meter, you're probably better off finding a lot if you get there around 4 or 5ish. Anyhoo, the bar was pretty cool and I got a seat right at the front. While I waited for my friend, I ordered a moscow mule which was from the draft which was interesting. Also got some edamame to snack on while waiting. My friend arrived and we ordered a few appetizers on the happy hour menu - spicy tuna, the ming's wings, the wasabi fries and the crispy chicken dumplings. All were delicious, but my favs were the wings, the fries and the spicy tuna, which we got two orders of. Overall this is a cool spot to hang out, have a drink and some yummy food. read more

This place is underrated yo!!! My animation class and I decided to have our end of the year hurrah here, and it did not disappoint. There is an indoor bar/seating area as well as an adorable backyard bungalow-esque outdoor area. The latter literally feels like a secret clubhouse, with beautiful string lights illuminating the area. We couldn't believe it was even real. The menu is populated with a huge variety of options from different cuisines, ranging from ramen/udon to tacos to mac n cheese to curry to sushi rolls. Best part about the Far Bar is the alley way seating which feels like you're entering a secret, underground world! Like a quieter NYC?? The alley is always in the shade, and it feels intimate so good for a casual happy hour or a not stuffy date. The food is not memorable but that also means it was not disappointing (just come with no expectations!). Wanted to try this popular ramen place in Little Tokyo, unfortunately I didn't feel like waiting for at least 30 minutes, so I continued walking a few shops down and caught my eye on this attractive Japanese girl with bleached blonde short hair chatting with, who I presumed to be, her boyfriend. Took me a few minutes to force myself a few steps from standing idle on the sidewalk and through the door. Eating at new places by myself is what I already do, but going to a bar? That required some courage to muster up. An entirely new experience. Once inside, it was quiet, with at least six other people. Well, it was a Sunday. I sat down at the bar (the corner closest to said girl, unfortunately I had my back to her. Wow. Lame. Try again later.) Asked the bartender for their Happy Hour menu. The bartender said it'll be available until 7PM. So I had 40 minutes to enjoy myself. First drink I ordered was a French Martini. $7. I haven't eaten anything so I ordered an appetizer, their Wasabi Fries. I was expecting the portions to be small, but boy was I wrong. It was a decent size for a $6 item. And on top of that, the wasabi sauce drizzled on them kept me from devouring the whole basket right then and there. Giving me ample time to enjoy my drink, and order some more. For my second cocktail choice, I had a cosmo. I guess I like fruity drinks. And lastly, right before Happy Hour ended, I ordered their draft Sapporo and a sake shot. Both were $3 each. The bartender said they didn't have Sapporo on draft at the time, so he gave me a bottle instead. No worries. I asked for my check right on the dot (7 P.M.). "Keep the change," I said. Then chilled around with my drinks and the last remaining morsels of fries. I left a quarter past seven, when new customers started arriving. I guess I was early to the night life. I was late to Happy Hour, can you believe that?! Lucky me, my sisters kicked off the evening and became fast friends with our server before my arrival. I was welcomed with a big smile and a menu. It was clearly past that time but our server graciously said she'll honor the HH pricing on food and drinks for me. Sweet! Happy Hour: Tuesday-Friday (3-7) and Sunday-Monday (3-Closing) I had a MOSCOW MULE and though it wasn't served in a tin cup, I couldn't be more happier with how good it tastes. No skimping on the alcohol plus for $6, there's really nothing to complain. A couple more of these babies and I was definitely in a happy place. For drinking food, I got their WASABI FRIES for only $3.50. Fries are thin cut and crispy, maybe frozen from a bag, but I don't care because the wasabi dipping sauce was genius. They should certainly work on the portion size of the dip because halfway through the fries, we wiped it clean. MING'S WINGS ($5) on the other hand had a sweet and savory marinade which was delicious down to the bone. Being happy on a Friday at an hour of happiness in our own little booth, it's hard to whine about anything except, the pace of things could really be quicker in terms of our food and drinks getting to our table. Before heading over to the Hello Kitty Museum, my Yelp buddies Chris C, E.K, Kenzie K and I decided to head over to Far Bar to grab a drink and some food. Located in Little Tokyo, Far Bar can be found near a secret little alley. Inside the bar, it was good vibes and chill, making it the perfect ambiance to have a drink and unwind. I was impressed with the huge selection of alcohol. They served draft beers, bottled beers, sake, cocktail and Japanese imports. The only thing missing was Rumchata. The don't serve this here, but they practically had everything else. We sat at the bar and ordered a Long island iced tea and Hanger one vodka. Our bartender had a fun outgoing personality. Not only did she provide us with great service, but she also knew how to make one perfectly strong Long Island and maybe one of the best I've ever had. After placing our food order 15 minutes before, we received our shrimp tempura roll, hamburger and french fries. Actually to my surprise, the food was pretty good. To kick off the 4th of July, 3-Day weekend, I want to share a cool place in Little Tokyo. The Far Bar is a bit far away from the action of DTLA, but it is no less fun. FB is located on 1st street in Little Tokyo, a couple of doors down from Daikokuya. This place is an anomaly for the area. There weren't any Japanese patrons @ 5 pm on a Thu evening, and the menu is more gastropub vs Azn fusion. We drank Hitachino Red Rice IPA, brewed w/ red rice from ancient times ($9). FB has a ton of Japanese bottled beer, beers on tap, and craft cocktails. The beer was excellent. It was a nice contrast to a white or dark, and it went well w/ the snack we had: 5 Stars. The wings were also very good: $4 HH. They had a nice kick to them, they were meaty and the chicken was moist. The only downside is the regular price of $9 for 5 wings. Natalie was a great bartender. She helped us select the right beer after she asked us what we normally drink. Natalie was friendly, attentive and seemed to enjoy her job: 4 Stars. The bar is very cool, and there is a long table behind the bar and a mezzanine area for private events: 4 Stars. I definitely want to return to the Far Bar. However, this is a good place to start the night, because you can't walk to a lot a places in the heart of DTLA from here. Nonetheless, my friend says it is a good place to be incognito w/ a sancha (mistress), because you prolly won't see anyone you know, and there is a hotel across the street. Thanks to Harry M. for guiding me here after our hearty meal of ramen. Those whiskey selection was unbelievable! Loved it so much, I had to try some Japanese whiskey while I was at it. I ordered Yamazaki single malt neat, 12 years, which be comparable with Johnny Walker Black. It has the smokey taste, but not too smokey, which I like. The Far Bar was pretty hidden if you asked me. I had to follow Harry to make sure I was going the right way. On our way to the bar, I see that there's seats outside and bar seats, course we went for the bar seats because that's where the good service for drinks comes in! :) The whiskey selection was overwhelming but I loved it. If you are sitting at the bar, make sure to ask them for the whiskey menu so you don't have to squint your eyes trying to read the board. It's a blended drink, with sprinkles, oreos, whipped cream, and a whole oreo on top. GAHHHHH!! It's like a dessert in a drink. I tried another drink. A Gorilla Banana something. That was good too. But if I had to choose between the two, I'd go with the Oreo one! The bartenders here are super cool. Interesting setup because it's a somewhat narrow/long alley but has a good amount of tables and chairs, as well as a live band in the front playing music. It gave a nice romantic feel at night. :) We shared the ahi poke in taro taco shells with avocado, the teriyaki burger sliders with mango salsa, the loco roll, and the far bar roll (spicy!! It has jalapenos on top). Everything was either just okay or pretty tasty but nothing really stood out for me. I think alot of the dishes SOUNDED a lot better than they actually tasted. My favorite dish out of the ones we tried was the far bar roll because I'm a big fan of spicy rolls! They also have a long list of cocktails with cute names! I had the frozen melon which was pretty good. If you're a girl who likes girly fruity cocktails, you will love their list! Our waitress was really friendly and charming! It's outdoors and super cute, especially at night when it's lit by all the twinkling lights strung above the tables and the movie projections. They have happy hour from 3-7pm! We tried most of their HH food items - the far bar burger, wasabi fries, tacos, wings, and sliders. They were all tasty! The wasabi fries were simply fries drizzled with light wasabi aioli - tasty, but could've used more of the sauce. The deep-fried wings were super crispy and just a little hot, but they were good! I tried the Zombie drink, which is only good if you like a strong drink as it has 3 rums mixed in it. Their cocktails aren't on the happy hour menu, but well drinks and some beers and wine.
