This place is pretty close to my house, and is a standby for my boyfriend and I. It's got the biggest selection of Japanese beers I've seen on one menu, as well as a kickass range of other beers. I've tried some pretty unique beers here, like a Saison brewed with carob, a sour blackberry beer, or a lager brewed with miso. One fab thing about Far Bar is that they have live jazz on Sunday nights with no cover! This is one of those things that "shouldn't be shared" because it might start to attract a lot of people, but hey, it's already publicized, so come check it out! Also, Sundays doubly rock because it's happy hour all day so there are food and drink specials. The food prices are already reasonable, which rocks. For example, I tired a delicious and simple Thai veggie curry bowl over rice, which had lots of delicious fresh veggies and nicely cooked rice, and it was only $6 or 7. The servers are always friendly, if a little busy, and it's great to sit outdoors under the strings of lights next to a fiery heat lamp on a cold night. Nice little hidden alley restaurant/bar. I came here with my girls during happy hour on a Tuesday. I really liked their view and the decorations outside. It must look more romantic at night time. AMAZING PLACE! It's the tiniest little alley way in Little Tokyo...so easy to miss, truly a hidden gem. Great beer, amazing ambiance, delicious food and decent service. For $8 I wish the fried chicken pieces came with a dipping sauce or something to offset the heavy dry seasoning that they put on the chicken. It was missing just a little something. -Braise port tacos: 3 mini street tacos with braised tender pork, served with a slaw and a side of (spicy) pickled jalopenos. This was good, and for $7 a very good deal. They were skimpy on the meat filling and eat taco was consistently in flavor and amount. My friend order the Far Bar burger and said it was pretty tasty. Came to Far Bar with some friends and everything was either below average or just average. Only thing I really enjoyed was the atmosphere (outside with lights) and the beer (I forgot which brew but I asked for something like a blue moon). The sushi menu was pretty small (maybe 7 or 8 options?) and lacked creativity. The worst part of the experience was the service. Our server was rude and kept rushing us to make decisions. We asked him to split the bill and he kept saying he would "try". You can't have average food and bad service. Pick a struggle. Cause the atmosphere is relaxing, they need servers who are friendly to make the entire experience comforting. That would make me less annoyed about the food. read more

For someone who's always at Little Tokyo, I've always missed the Far Bar experience - sure, the establishment's easy-to-miss alleyway entrance sure looks enticing from a distance but being a light drinker, I've never had an earlier inclination to go. We were seated in the outdoor area underneath some ambiance enhancing hanging lightbulbs (of course), with a big outdoor screen that was playing some episode of NCIS or something likw it. Being the perpetual lightweight, I shared a Far Bar Mule ($9) which was quite good and definitely tasted as its description on the menu was - a concoction of lime, vodka, and ginger. Our server was attentive and the mood of the area was relaxing and I had a good time catching up. I think these were good because they weren't soggy or anything and the wasabi mayo was great! But it just doesn't seem like anything special that we can't just make at home type deal. Loco roll: our server recommended this to us. It was a fried roll and in all honestly, none of the sushi or rolls said OMG I WANT IT! It's like super Americanized sushi rolls.
