Having grown up in a middle-class white suburb I'm of course well versed with gangsta rap and had always wanted to come to Fatburger after first being introduced to it via Ice Cube's '93 track "It Was A Good Day." Last Sunday presented a prime hungover opportunity so my friend Cristina and I decided to come down here around three or four in the afternoon. I was looking forward to my burger but the experience was ultimately compromised by a completely unsolicited act of rudeness from the cashier, who misunderstood Cristina's order for a small "deal" with skinny fries and then attempted to make her pay extra for a side order rather than just, I don't know, correct his own mistake. "I didn't hear you say you wanted fries so I'm charging you for them now and I don't like your attitude," was the basic gist, or rather his verbatim reply. I'm here to tell you there was no attitude; we were both confused as hell by this sudden escalation in tone and she had DEFINITELY ordered fries. Luckily another worker, Rosa, took our side and hooked us up with a free burger and the number of the manager (who wasn't on the premises at the time, hmmm) and told us that this kid already had a few strikes against him for behavior like this. That made me consider recent jobs I've had where behavior like that wouldn't result in immediate termination. I couldn't think of any. Anyway the next few minutes were a bit tense, keeping strict eye on our food as it was being prepared to make sure that no salivary projectiles--or worse!--found their way into our burgers. And that burger....well, it was just a burger, just a burger that cost over $10 for all the accoutrements. I was thinking at the time that one could spend a lot less for the same thing at In-N-Out or just a hair more for something ten to twenty times better at Father's Office. my boyfriend and i ate here not long ago. the staff are friendly and the seating areas are clean. however, the prices are steep and the quality of food is several notches below any fast food place. we ordered one vegetarian burger, one cheeseburger, french fries, onion rings, and two soft drinks. the music inside was too loud, so, we sat outside. my boyfriend's cheeseburger was horribly tasteless. i ordered the veggie burger without mustard and with grilled onions. but, it was prepared with mustard and raw onions which i can tolerate if i'm starving. the french fries were greasy. and the onion rings were just as greasy with no onion taste. even salt and ketchup couldn't bring out any flavour of those french fries and onion rings. i have been to this fatburger before. all i could remember from my first visit was how overpriced everything was. this recent visit will convince me not to come back. read more

I cannot tell you how many dry turkey burgers I have had around town. Dry...no taste. Had to use a ton of condiments just to make it taste like something. Anyway, all of their burgers are made to order. You might have to wait a little bit longer than you do at a regular fast food joint but trust me it's so worth it. I love all of the options to put on the burgers. It makes it feel personalized. And of course the burger tastes absolutely delicious. I thought it would be hard to pry me away from my In-n-Out fetish. Like most hamburger lovers from the east coast, In-n-Out holds a mythical place in my burger and fries obsessions. And for the price, I-n-O is still tops. BUT, if you're willing to spend a bit more, the food and beverages at Fat Burger are a cut above. Burger patties are hand-formed. The fries are delish (skinny fries are the best I think) and the shakes, should you choose to have one, are real ice cream shakes, not the processed dairy-like product that most fast food joints sell. Also the lemonade is damn good. (Another plus is that they have a wide variety of soda offerings, including lots of diet options). For those of you who need a short-term ego boost, or just feel like being validated for not doing much: When the cashier hands you your change back, make sure he sees you put some "paper money" in the tip jar. I actually love there food! But I have been going here for years with my son Winston. He is a 3 year old Golden Retriever and he is beyond extremely well behaved. And a few nights ago they kicked me out because I had him with me! My same son who has had food made specially for him while he sits at the table! And the best thing about this place is their amazing soda machine. So I went to Fat Burger for the second time in my life and I have to say it was a truly "fat burger" I ordered the XXL burger and it was massive not to mention delicious I got it with mustard, mayo, ketchup, relish, and avocado and I ordered a cookies n cream shake. All of it was amazing and it was incredibly hard to finish but totally worth it, although if I had 1 complaint I would say that they should offer a larger size of shake because the shake to burger ratio was a little off. Tasty burger for my mouth hole. Things worth mentioning: The beef isn't pre pattied. It hits the grill in a big block of yum yum beef and is shaped by the back of a flipper. This is the one across the street from Astro Burger, right? If so, I have fond memories at this location. Everytime I visit LA, it has to be this specific one. On one trip when Wrestlemania XX was at the Staples, we went here twice. I've had better burgers than this but as far as fast food joints go, this might be the best. Burgers are always good and waaay better than either Las Vegas spots. The one in Orange is ok but not quite as good. No pickles, relish, or mustard for me. Just grill the onions and fuck the egg, I don't know why it's even on the menu - it's one of those unexplained phenomenons like pizza and ranch. There a gazillion of these in SoCal, we need one in San Fran. The one E40 opened is a little far from SF for me to make the trip. Supposedly Pharrell has or is going to open one in VA. HOWEVER, the wait for food was long, my burger came out cold, they forgot my root beer float and everything was bland. What happened?! Fail fail fail. We took a couple bites and gave up.
