First of all, I am going to hype any thriving business of color, specifically a black owned business. Field Trip is the epitome of a field trip, the theme "rice is culture" is proven in their meals. Short menu with literally all of mY favorite meals who would have known! The establishment was cute with art on the walls, clean kitchen and bathroom, ONE OF THE BEST throwback playlist anyone can ask for from destiny's child to Ms. independent. Let's get to the food. I had the Seafood Gumbo and the crab jackets. My friends had the BBQ Brisket Bowl and the pink lemonade. My seafood gumbo with red rice was so damn good, it reminded me of my dads cooking. Everything, was immaculate, seasoned to perfection, in these cute bowls. I literally ate every bit of my food. This is the first restaurant I have been to in a long time and did not have to worry about cleanliness, if the food was going to be good, and if the hosts were going to be rude or not. Brilliant healthy spot in a neighborhood where that doesn't seem to be the norm. Finally, a cool fast casual restaurant that has food good enough to match its trendy setup. I got the crispy chicken bowl. The rice was really flavorful and hot, as were the vegetables and the chicken. I wish there was more sauce on it, the chicken felt a bit on the dry side. Overall, it was really tasty and cheap, and all of the food felt very fresh, which can't be said about a lot of harlem hot spots. I hope it remains a neighborhood staple. read more

Great little spot in Harlem. The crab pockets are one of the best things I've ever had. They were so good! The shrimp bowl was tasty with a good level of spice but I found the coconut sticky rice to be too heavy with the green curry sauce. This might be better with just jasmine rice. This exceeded my expectations. The crispy chicken bowl with absolutely delicious, filling and a good portion. I left extremely stuffed because I refused to stop eating, though I definitely could have had leftovers. I recommend coming here for the hospitality and good food. Balance. Perfect balance between healthy and indulgent. Last night was second time. I had the salmon bowl first time around and last night fell in love with the crispy fish. One of the most flawless experiences I've had. From the moment I walked in, Kiera made me feel at home. She was incredibly attentive and a terrific listener. Buyer beware. Another example of a once-good restaurant that is now not worth a passing glance. The food in general has been very good, but the "large" size has been cut in half! I understand shrinkflation has impacted restaurants a lot, but that's pretty drastic. Call me if ingredients also has noticeably gone down. read more

By pure happenstance, I found myself at the Rockefeller Center yesterday and stumbled upon FIELD TRIP. What an unparalleled delight that turned out to be. To start - the staff are warm and welcoming. That alone enhances the overall experience. Then came the meal. I chose the fish plate. The explosion of tastes (plural) on my palate were far more than I anticipated. The flavors, while blended, were individually apparent from the fish to the Brussels sprouts to the red onion. DELICIOUS is an understatement. Should I find myself in the center again, I'll look no further than FIELD TRIP to serve up another delightful dish. Happens to be that I am composing a new and innovative guide book to New York City for my company Vuitton Travel and Timeless Journeys TV. It's over! My love affair with this restaurant is about done...Friday, the 13th--I should have known better! I just spent $38.07 for 2 totally dry, pasty-not saucy (overcooked) shrimp bowls and 1 bbq brisket bowl. The meat & shrimp were tough to chew. Nothing like it used to be...Smaller portions, no flavor, dry, maybe because of the totally new staff cooking it, but I'm very disappointed! I might try them 1 more time, but first I'll peek in the window to see if the regular workers are there. *The new workers were friendly & courteous, they just can't cook these particular dishes. read more

To say we had a wonderful dining experience is an UNDERSTATEMENT. A friend and I sat and grabbed two bowls (beef brisket and crispy chicken) with a side of the spicy plantains, and the guys were beyond kind and thought in chatting with us their recommendations and gave us a history of the restaurant and why each bowl or dish was unique. I read about this restaurant and was very happy to find out it was just across the street from the location where I was to meet my walking tour. I didn't have a lot of time but ordered the Fried Chicken Bowl (it's Southern Food). You order at the counter (dine-in or take-out), service was very quick. Very tasty, just the right amount of season and Bar-b-que sauce dressing. The Chef, JJ, was being interviewed a few tables from where I sat so I got to hear about his philosophy of farm to table, local. I was invited to try their restaurant as a yelp event and at a convenient location since I live an avenue away. I really love this place because the ingredients are fresh and it's a different take on veggie/meat bowls. I ordered the braised beef with vegetables. The dish came in with a hefty portion of meat and veggies. For the price point, it's a deal. My meal came with a side and I ordered the crab pockets, which the filling came in steaming hot, so let it cool off before getting a bite. I paired my meal with half tea and half dragon lemonade. I'm glad I split the drink as an Arnold Palmer because the drink was too sweet. I spoke to the staff and they are going to have soup bowls for the winter, which I'm excited for. After buying chef JJ Johnson's James Beard Award winning cookbook, "Between Harlem and Heaven" my husband and I wanted to try his cuisine. We shared 2 bowls: black rice with salmon and Carolina Gold rice with crispy chicken. Enjoyed both! One had piri piri sauce and another had barbecue sauce. Both delicious . Like the addition of veggies in the bowl. The sake in a box was better than expected but we skipped the straw and poured it into a glass. Overall it was healthy and delicious. read more

We got the crispy chicken bowl, the quinoa bao buns and the sweet plantains to share as well as a pineapple jarritos [ the beverage was his choice...don't judge ;) ]. The food was quick and the lady at the counter was pleasant, knowledgeable and kind. I wish it wasn't COVID times so we could sit inside and enjoy our meal...but hey, who doesn't. Regardless, we picked up the food which was neatly packaged in small paper containers and packaged utensils and walked over to Morningside Park where we enjoyed the delicious mouthfuls. The crispy chicken rice bowl was scrumptious with collard greens, a sweet potato as well as blistered shishito pepper which was to die for. The plantains were a bit oily for my taste, but good. There are a variety of textures in the rice bowl that play on the palate which heightened our enjoyment of this meal. This is more of a rating for the service and the greasy crab balls. I want into field trip for the 1st time today. To me 1st experiences are everything. So today was not a great 1. It started off fine when I walk in The ladies preparing the food both said hello welcome to field trip. The gentleman over there were help you when you're ready or if you have any questions. I checked out the menu for a minute or so. I waited for about 4 minutes until the person at the register Attempted to take my order. The woman that was cooking the food had to tell him I was ready to place my order. He came over and said nothing begin fumbling around with the register I attempted to place my order then realized that he was not ready so I apologized. He said that he was ready go ahead. He took my order and all 3 of them began to prepare my food since there was no one in the restaurant except for chef J. J. himself. I did not want to make a scene about that because to me it really Was not a big deal at the time period when the food was ready it seemed like he forgot to place one of my crab balls in the bag he went over picked it up out of the fryer and tossed it in the back. After packing my bag he put it on the Counter and literally pushed it towards me. Im not sure y but the food he prepared the crab balls were very very oily. The other foods were good.
