Been to First Watch several times in a Johnson City. Never had lunch there. This time we happened to be in Knoxville and starving for a good lunch but with a different flare from the usual. Found the spot. First watch has a limited lunch menu but we found some items that were awesome. I had a really good tomato basil soup and sandwich while my wife did a sandwich and a salad. So now I have two First Watches to like. Not a bad problem to have. By the way went to the one in Johnson City this morning. Lordy it was a stuffing! This is the perfect brunch spot in Knoxville! Their food is healthier and lighter tasting than alot of brunch places in the south, but it definitely still has tons of flavor. I've gotten takeout from here many times and always had a good experience, but I dined in for the first time this week. After getting our drinks, we sat there for way too long waiting for someone to take our order. I want to blame staffing issues, but the tables around us all seemed to be getting taken care of. Since I was in the restaurant and didn't have to worry about how the food would travel, I got a Benedict. The eggs came out fully cooked through. I felt like a jerk, but I'd waited forever and was looking forward to this, so I sent them back. They came back a second time and were still overcooked, but bc I saw any runny yolk whatsoever and I was hungry, I just dealt with it. But if your entire schtick is breakfast and brunch, shouldn't you really have how to poach an egg down? I left annoyed and bummed out. read more

We were bug fans of The Egg and I and are still disappointed that they closed that location. The First Watch on Kingston Pike is good but much too loud and the waitstaff was less than available. I had to wait 20 minutes to grab a waiter to ask for syrup for my pancake order. My then cold pancakes were good but it was bad service. Can switch any of the bread for gluten free Udi's but doesn't seem like they do true allergy stuff, like switch gloves, etc. The chorizo omelet was really good. Am I missing something about this place? Not a fan of community tables. Why am I paying to sit so close to a stranger that I can hear their conversation over my own? Very, very loud acoustics. This is my second visit to First Watch, first to this location. We used the NoWait app and were able to be seated within five minutes of walking in (on a very busy, very rainy Sunday!). I got the Benedict florentine with potatoes and a side of ham, and my bf got the croque madame. We both enjoyed our meals immensely and were stuffed by the end; my only picky thing was that the tomato on my Benedict was not cored, and the core was kind of woody and hard to chew. But I just cut it out myself, not a big deal. I loved that they didn't wilt the spinach and put plenty of avocado, the eggs were perfectly poached, and the hollandaise wasn't too heavy. I came in with a friend around 12:30 and we were immediately seated. I ordered a morning meditation to begin. The juice is very refreshing and tasty! I then decided to have the croque madame (definitely mispronounced that one). The sandwich is very large and filled with ham. The eggs were well prepared and I would definitely recommend the sandwich to anyone else. I had to take half of my sandwich home. I also had a slice of avocado toast which is a treat but I hate the fact that it's $9. That item should have a lower cost in my opinion. Great place for breakfast/brunch! read more

The food is good and atmosphere is bright and inviting, lots of on-trend reclaimed wood and metal finishes, and the waitstaff very friendly (host staff not as much, they seem distracted and stressed out). As long as the person taking my order is friendly, and my eggs cooked correctly, I'm happy. The eggs were perfect by the way. There are 2 things that hit a nerve with me. 1- Literally everything on the menu is fresh squeezed this, organic that, free-range and hormone free... EXCEPT the coffee creamer. I asked for real cream and was directed back to the little tubs of chemical-laden fake stuff piled in a pyramid on the table. Plus they generate a lot of waste. Kind of at odds with the rest of the menu. PLEASE start offering real cream! 2- In fairness I've only eaten here twice but nothing on the menu that should be spicy is spicy. The food and atmosphere is always great. It's become a really go to place to have brunch for the girls in my family. My one downside is that as good as the coffee is, it's overpriced along with the food. Breakfast food is very cheap to make, however, if I order a breakfast meal + coffee and tip my server my bill will come to 16+ dollars for just me. I think that is so much for brunch. I debate whether to give 2 or 3 stars for my first visit to First Watch. I'll begin with the good: We were seated after a short wait during lunch hour rush. The brioche they use is really stellar and comes in HUGE, thick slices. The pot of coffee they give you for $2.79 seemed like a sweet deal (more on that later). The hostess/team leader was very amenable (not sure her exact role). Now for the not so good: We never got a server. Seriously. After we were seated, we were ignored for about 10 minutes. Finally, the friendly hostess/team leader came over and asked us if we wanted coffee and told us our server would be with us shortly. We got coffee, no water and were told our server was unable to serve us so she'd take our order. Upon finishing our order, I asked if we could get some water. She brought us some a short time later. It was exceptionally busy, but I saw tables that came in after us get food before us. We waited approximately 30 minutes to get our food once we ordered. Our "server" dropped the food without so much as a "hi". We were seated at an incredibly tiny table, and when he presented the food he kind of let it hover awkwardly over the overcrowded table, as if he expected me to take it and figure out where to place it. It was a bit strange. I had moved the pot of creamers to the bench I was sitting on in an effort to free up some table space, but with a pot of coffee, pitcher of water, syrup, ketchup, salt and pepper, two mugs and two water glasses, the table was still filled to the brim. My Croque Madame was pretty tasty. As previously mentioned, the brioche is really good and served in massive slabs on the plate. Half of my sandwich was heavily dressed with Dijonnaise while the other was bare. It was served lukewarm. My fried eggs still had some runny yolk, but they were overcooked. Let's talk about their coffee. Their website states: "At First Watch you always have: Your very own pot of freshly brewed Sunrise Select coffee" I foolishly thought this meant this was complimentary. It's not. In fact, they don't even charge you by the pot. They charge you by the person??? So, our "very own pot of freshly brewed Sunrise Select coffee" was $2.79 per person, or $6.09 with tax. Uhm...that's not really...appealing. The second appearance of our server came while we were eating, and it was to drop off our check. He never told us his name, but our receipt identified him as Craig. It would have been nice to be introduced to you, Craig. Perhaps next time. I'm not ready to write off First Watch, but the experience as a whole was less than endearing. read more

Met my bestie here for brunch. I'd never been but it came highly recommended by her. I was skeptical that the prices on the menu would be far above the quality and taste of the food but I was gladly mistaken. The ingredients were so fresh, and the service from the host and our waitress was phenomenal. We had some ingredient limitations due to medical reasons, but they were incredibly patient and helpful with their suggestions to make our experience perfect. Today is the first time I've eaten at First Watch. It will be my last. The positives are that the location is very beautifully decorated, the seating is reasonably comfortable and the menu looks fresh and healthy. The negatives, sadly, outweigh the positives. I got the pumpkin pancakes with eggs and sausage. 1. How in the world do you cook scrambled eggs that are CRISPY? If you like potatoes sautéed with onions and marinated tomatoes then piled with cheese, bacon, eggs, and avocado then you'll love this! Checked in at 45 minute mark and told it was going to be another 30-45 minutes. Usually not a problem but the walk up in front of us was told 30 minutes. Waited another 30 minutes and app says we're up next. Check with hostess and she can't find our entry even though we checked in earlier. Then told unapologetically that it would be another 45-60 minutes. I'm pretty sure we just got stuck back at the end of the line. at that point we left and went to competitor. We are regulars at the Chattanooga location and have never had this problem. The food is great there and it is a shame that our "no wait" app essentially made us wait over two hours.
