Now that I've moved away I am definitely missing my take-out from First Wok. You can order from the line but I always order off the menu for guaranteed freshness. This is one of the only places I can find mu shu and damn that mu shu is fantastic and is a HUGE portion, enough for at least 2 meals. In addition to mu shu I also usually pick up an order of crab rangoons and egg rolls which are both excellent fried, fatty choices. They do deliver but with the food so cheap I can never meet the delivery minimum so I opt to pick-up. You can order and pay online and I've never experienced any issues with their site. I am not the biggest Chinese food aficionado, mostly because I rarely encounter places that make the food to a degree that I like. For what it is (a small, little, hole in a wall) First Wok DOES have some delicious food; I recommend the Chow Mein Noodles; the sweet and sour pork, string bean chicken, and the Mongolian Beef. If you get there when the food is freshly out you are in luck! If not, well they do keep the food in the steaming trays and/or also heated up for you in the microwave. To be honest that is not something that I am bothered by but I understand why others would. Plus there is made-to-order menu in which they make the food for you if that is the case. If you come at the end of the night around closing time they give you HUGE portions and for the price it is worth it; however, if you are thinking about dining-in expect that the restaurant staff will also be having their dinner. Seems as though at the end of the night the staff likes to dine on the left over's of the day out in the dining room. If you want something you will see them get up from their meal and come assist you, which is little uncomfortable and weird. This is a my go to place for a quick takeaway, but that's one of the issues. For the pre-cook table, the dishes are the same (which is fine) but then, there seem to be a lack of veggies (only 2 dishes out of the 20+ dishes there?), and there is still meat in the dish.. This is just a personal opinion As for the order menu, it seems like the price is on the high side if I want to take into account the quality and type of food. So in summary, this can be a place on your list of takeaways, but just maybe pace your visits, else you'll run out of variety... unless you don't mind the repeats. read more

I was at the Safeway right next door after going to the gym nearby and saw First Wok. I immediately thought, "Hey, a Chinese chicken salad sounds yummy." Walking in it's pretty typical and has a takeout type bar to select your items (looks pretty convenient for busy lunches). As I arrived, they were just opening, luckily I didn't have to wait . . . So, I ordered my salad and the cashier woman was pretty nice. After about five minutes - my food was ready! So I headed home and I opened up my salad. It was HUGE and had a TON of chicken. But . . . the noodles seemed soft, the chicken was breaded and VERY DRY, and the sauce was very thick and sickly sweet. I just stopped eating about a 1/4 way in (right now) to write this review because I just didn't want to eat anymore. Quick and friendly service. Large portion. Pricey for quality. Poor food. A cautious 3.5 stars. Went there for dinner and ordered from the express menu. Chicken chow mein, salt and pepper chicken, orange chicken, and garlic chicken. The chow mein was excellent. Very chewy noodles, which I like, and lots of vegetables. The salt and pepper chicken didn't taste like much, but it was easy to add more salt and pepper. The chicken was pretty decent quality, especially for having been sitting around in the trays. The last two chickens, perhaps because they were sitting in sauce, were tough. I wasn't a big fan of the sauces, either. The free soup, sweet and sour, was good. Lots of food, and a really good price. At least two meals can be had for $6-$8. First Wok offered a variety of fish and shrimp dishes such as the salt and pepper fried fish, fish with vegetables, shrimp with broccoli, and shrimp fried rice. I walked into this place last night as we did not feel like cooking. We ordered Hunan Chicken, Chicken with Cashew Nut and Veg. Fried Rice. The food was really delicious, not too oily and the chicken was tender. For the price of food, the chicken I usually very chewy like chewing gum but this place is different. For $20 (with 10% discount coupon) we got three items and the quantity was good enough for eating the food twice. We were really hungry and yet could not finish the food. I am giving this four stars for now and if they continue to provide me with delicious food, I will give them five stars. I started coming here just for take-out lunch (fried rice, chow mein, etc) and the food was always good. I liked that none of the items was greasy and they always gave you big portions. When my wife and I threw our baby shower a few years back, we had them cater and deliver to a park in Sunnyvale for about 100 people. The food turned out great and they even made things off the menu (fried chicken). The owner and everybody there was super easy to deal with. We just had our son's birthday party and had them cater again. Great that they deliver straight to the park. A lot of people remarked how good the food was and asked who catered it. First Wok is exactly what Americanized Chinese food should be: it's tasty, it's cheap, it's greasy, and it's delivered to your door. This is my go to place when I am too tired to bother making food for myself, when I just want to put on my pj's, crawl on the couch, and let someone else do all the work! This past time we had a variety of things: hot and sour soup, potstickers, egg rolls, mu shu pork, and (my favorite) chicken chow mein. The egg rolls were especially good, very crunchy, and if I could only eat one Chinese dish for the rest of my life, it might be their chicken chow mein. wow, went there in person, which immediately brought my previous review into question. as others have noted, its a buffet line (which makes me think questionable quality) and portions are huge. Kind of sketchy strip mall, located next to massage parlor. However, we figured if food was good delivery, it should be better fresh off the grill (or fresh out of the trough as the case may be). The guy was nice at the door. Portions are large. The Soup was very tasty (my favorite of the four things I bought). The Egg Rolls were large, but they were a bit greasy. Since I live right around the corner from this place we are here quite often. The waitress there is very nice even when we order 10+ dishes when we show up. We have ordered a large portion of the menu and gone through the express line and had quite a large number of different dishes from them and not one has ever been bad. Thanks to Yelp, I was able to stumble across the FIRST WOK. Just like everyone else, I had my doubts... but i was starving and wanted to eat something other than Pizza... So I gave them a call, ordered hot and sour soup, black pepper beef, honey walnut chicken, House Special fried rice and some pan fried noodles. The delivery took about 30 minutes. The soup was really good. The noodles ended up a little soggy, but I cant blame them since it was delivered... I'm sure if I ordered this at the Restaurant itself, it'd be delicious! I have avoided a review of this place since I moved here over a year ago. It's absolutely awful. What isn't already 2-3 days old, is cooked beyond an inch of it's life. The several sauces I ordered were scorched (which is difficult when microwaving it), and the soups are sooooooo watery that I thought they gave me water with my meal. I order some party platters for my son's 100th day celebration. The staff were so nice. Two weeks ago, I ordered from them the day before the party and the staff was really pleasant and explain the size of the party platter. However the morning of the party, my daughter started coughing and was feeling under the weather so I had to cancel last minute. I called First Wok about half an hour before the planned party, but they already made everything. They didn't charge me a cancellation fee. The food wasn't that great though, normal chinese food. Cheap for the quantity but nothing great. This is my goto place whenever I want Chinese food. I always order one side and 2 entrees. Their portions are GENEROUS so what I do is ask for a to go box up front and put aside the extra portion I know I am not going to finish which usually ends up roughly 2 more meals for me. It's not a fancy place, and yes, they will re-heat your plate in the microwave, but that is because the chafer station can only keep the food lukewarm, but If you order off the menu though, I guarantee it is hot!. I always order the fish with black bean sauce when it is available and never had any problem so don't worry about the freshness of the food. I also like their flavoring on the dishes because they keep the salties salty and sweets sweet. Come on.... you guys know that some fast-food Chinese place make the all the salty dishes sweet. We had an order delivered. The food was a mess when it arrived. It was an oil bomb all over the boxes. I'd say that they put the greasy, saucy items in the wrong kind of containers to begin with. The food was mostly not good. One of the four dishes was good. Another had a sauce that was not right and the broccoli was overcooked and mushy. I finally found a good, cheap Chinese restaurant after moving to Sunnyvale. I was a little nervous about trying it out, but read the reviews on yelp and thought... why not? we ordered through their website and went to pick it up. The people working were really nice and our food was almost ready. The place was empty, but it was close to 8pm. Food was ready and smelt sooooo good on the drive home. Everything we ordered was delicious: hot and sour soup, appetizer plate (prawns, egg rolls, and spring rolls), chicken chow mein, pork fried rice, and beef and string beans. Went here on lunch with a friend a few days ago. We knew we wouldn't be getting gourmet food or anything, and were totally fine with that. However, after the lady put the food on our plates, we were ABSOLUTELY STUNNED that she USED A MICROWAVE to reheat it! Were their steam trays not working? I don't know. Probably my favorite place ever to go eat. I'm a vegetarian and I love the food. I always get the Eggplant with Szechuan Sauce and Vegetable Chow Mein. The flavoring is perfect and definitely the best eggplant I've eaten. The tofu dishes aren't super good. Still tasty, but the eggplant is good enough that you don't even need to order the tofu. There's enough options for vegetarians (like 8-9 dishes). Good place to go if you've got carnivorous friends and you're vegetarian. Prices are good and the plates are pretty big. The only thing negative thing is it's super greasy. But then the majority of Chinese food is greasy. And it's a bit far, since I'm from San Jose. read more
