I have to say I was absolutely impressed with the flavors and quality. We have been coming here many years for the buffet but thought we would try the takeout during the shelter in place. As always the Sweet n Sour Pork was very good. Solid, authentic Cantonese styled Chinese food. This is coming from someone who's eaten at many "authentic" Chinese restaurants, including those in Hong Kong. It's not the cleanest place (though it is clean for a Chinese restaurant), making it even more authentic. :) I've never ordered the "Panda Express" style meals at the food line, but they look decent. If you have time, I highly recommend ordering from the kitchen instead, it's cooked up fresh in generous portions. I have had some misses here and there, but the meals are usually pretty solid. One of our favorites is their Hong Kong style pan fried noodles, they are incredibly delicious! Keep in mind, this is not Americanized Chinese food (like Panda Express or P.F. Changs, both of which I love), so set your expectations accordingly! read more

I came in at 12:40 on a Friday and ordered the 3 item combo to eat at the restaurant. I came here because of the Yelp reviews but I didn't have time to read through the actual reviews so I was caught off guard that this is a buffet-style restaurant (food already cooked and sitting in a steamer). It's like Panda Express. After getting my 3 items, the server put my plate in the microwave to heat up the food. Shocking!!! Chow mein (thick noodles): The noodles were too chewy and pretty plain (fried with onions, carrots and cabbage). Mongolian beef: Meat had a funny texture as if they used too much meat tenderizer. The onions and sauce tasted good though. House garlic chicken: Diced pieces of chicken were lightly battered, deep fried and smothered in a slightly sweet and tangy sauce. I liked the sauce but the chicken was a tad dry. Hot and sour soup: probably the best item I tried here. It was hot (temperature and spicy) and just the right amount of sour. It had little bits of tofu, bamboo sprouts, green onion and egg. I will be fair and review this place as compared to other restaurants in this price-range. My meal was $7.45 ($8.10 with tax). Even after leaving a tip, I gotta say this place is very inexpensive and you get a lot of food. However, the food didn't stand out. I can get better food at Panda Express or Lee's Kitchen for similar prices. I won't be back. read more

This little place is DELICIOUS! Awesome Hot and Sour soup ! I honestly have not had a bad dish here.

The food here has been good and the menu is quite affordable. My only qualm was when two orders were delivered in containers with huge holes punctured in, according to them to let out steam and prevent the food from soggy. On a normal day this would have been okay but not during a pandemic. The restaurant offered to replace one of two orders, I ended up going through the delivery service to get a refund. They hung up twice when I called back as instructed the next day to place the order. YMMV but no issues with their food. I will not be ordering in the future based on customer service. read more

I'm sad to report they're using salad shrimp now for the Honey Walnut PRAWNS. What a disappointment??!! Not so long ago the prawns were wonderful and took two bites each to devour. I couldn't even find the shrimp in my last order except for a few chewy, stringy, nuggets that had a hit of shrimp smell. On top of that, our order was 30+ minutes past the delivery time. Which equates to cold food. I can use my microwave on fried rice and noodles but nothing makes up for the shitty Walnut Prawns. Guess I'm on to another spot... won't be coming back. read more

I've ordered twice from the restaurant. The first experience was edible and okay for fast Chinese food. The second order made me sick. I'll discuss the second order in this review. It seems this restaurant seems to use a ton of MSG in certain dishes. I had ordered enough food to last for leftovers for another day. However, each time I ate the food, I always began getting a migraine. This is the sign of a problematic ingredient like MSG (and lots of it). I ordered for delivery. My first item, Orange Peel Chicken. This dish was a mess from start to finish. The chicken was battered and fried and placed into a very runny orange colored sticky sweet sauce. Unfortunately, the restaurant put this dish into a flat clam shell container that spilled all over everything during delivery. In order to extract the food (which was so hot I could barely hold onto it), that sticky sauce got all over everything. Such a mess. As for the dish itself, the chicken was bland and the sauce was just sweet, but didn't taste at all of oranges (or really anything). There was also not a single orange peel in sight. The second item, Beef with Fun noodles. This dish also placed into a flat clam shell container and tasted okay. It wasn't a mess, but the noodles all stuck together making a huge clumpy mess. There was very little sauce and there were about 5-6 pieces of broccoli in the with it. Overall, the beef was okay, but the noodles were mostly a big clumpy mess. It was also fairly salty. The third item, Chicken Corn soup. This soup was fair and may have been the item with heavy MSG, though all dishes might all have had it. This soup is basically Egg Drop soup with chicken and corn. Probably the best tasting of the dishes I ordered. But, it's not exactly what I think of for Chicken Corn soup. The fourth item, Sauteed Green Beans. This is a standard sort of green bean dish sauteed in soy sauce. I've had this dish before and it wasn't any better or worse than those I've previously had. I had ordered it to make sure I got at least some kind of vegetable. This was packaged in a white folded close top Chinese food container. This is how messy dishes should be packaged. The final item was House Fried Rice with BBQ Pork. Again packaged in a folded white paper container, this is pretty much a standard fried rice in terms of flavor. However, the cook was a bit stingy with the pork, egg and other ingredients. Most restaurants load the fried rice up with stuff. Not so much here. It was pretty sparse containing mostly rice. I usually never have problems with a tiny bit of MSG, but this restaurant seemed to overload the dishes with it. I won't be ordering from this restaurant again. read more

Picked up a quick lunch before my doc's appt nearby. A small hole in the wall where Safeway is located. Average decor with nothing outanding as far as ambiance. Food is precooked and in steam trays. I assume you can order things off of the menu, too. Seems weird to have chairs lined up in front of the steam trays of food, like it was a counter to eat from. Came around 2 pm. A good amount of food is still were in their steam trays, some were starting to look dried out like the beef in Mongolian beef and beef with broccoli and the fried rice, so I can safely assume that there is not a high turnover of food. I got the chow mein, garlic chicken, and salt and pepper fried fish for the lunch special - 2 items plus rice or noodles for under $12. Flavor is mediocre, just tasted like plain noodles, missing the salt and pepper on the fish and it was dry. The garlic chicken tasted like sweet and sour, plus they used white meat, so the chicken was dry. If the chef could kick it up a notch and season their dishes more, they could have more foot traffic going in. It was empty except for one couple who were dining in. The person serving was nice and cordial, and the place did look clean from what I saw. read more

I don't know why anyone wouldn't want to eat here. They don't use MSG and everything I have tried has always been on point. I started my job close to this area a couple of years ago and for some reason, was misguided that the food isn't good. However, I changed all of their minds when I brought them all back some chow fun and they all gobbled it down. When asked where I got it from and I told them, well, it caught them all by surprise. Now ALL my coworkers come here for Chinese food. The portions are huge and the price is very reasonable. Matter of fact, I had lunch here today and was even able to save half of it for dinner. Don't judge, but I always get Kung Pao Chicken :P Hey, I love chicken and this has always been my go to dish! Long story short. After reading the reviews on yelp, I decided to stop here after work to grab dinner. I arrived a little after 9pm and was a little disappointed the buffet counter was already cleared out . The lady working there was draining the water and wiping it down. =( The lady greeted me with a smile and seeing the confusion in my face told me I could still order. So I asked the lady for recommendations. She suggested Mongolian Beef ($7.95) and Sesame Chicken ($8.50). I was starving so I ordered both! The servings were very generous, should last me an additional 2-3 meals easy. The Mongolian beef had more sauce then I was accustomed to but it was very tasty and spicy. The slices of beef were tender and were a nice medium thickness. The Sesame Chicken looked appetizing and smelled garlicky but it was inconsistent. There were a few pieces of chicken that tasted like over-fried jerky and there were a few big slices that were moist and tender. The sauce was also very sweet and oily. Overall I was very satisfied with the food and portion size. I will definitely come back but before 9pm. If you're looking for above-average Chinese food at a great value this is your best bet. read more

Left work very late last night and didn't feel like cooking. I was about to go to Safeway when I saw that this place had opened. But there is simply no other Chinese food around the area save PF Chang's (not Chinese) and Wok On! a mile down the way and Fu Lam Mum on Castro. You can order things off the menu or go with the pre-made a la Panda Express style. In a hurry, this is what I did. For under $7 you can get 3 items which includes either chow mein or chicken fried rice or veggie fried rice as one of the items. I ordered salted fish and mongolian beef. They really heap it on here. You knowt hose squarish styrofoam boxes? It's completely filled, like you'd expect at a Hawaiian place and definitely not at a Chinese place. It also includes a bowl (approx 1/2 cup) of either egg drop or hot and sour soup. Verdict, the food was actually good. Better than any other fast food Chinese place and pretty close to Fu Lam Mum in my opinion. And this was for the pre-made stuff. The hot and sour soup has rekindled my taste for it. I could seriously eat oil drums of the stuff in college. Not the absolutel best Chinese food, but it's better than most and you get an incredible amount of it. I happened upon First Wok on my travels . They have a steam table where you can get combination plates fairly cheap . I was craving Honey Walnut Prawns and Combination Chow Mein . So I ordered that. Place is pretty clean . My food came out in 10 minutes I was impressed with the Honey Walnut Prawns cooked very nicely and was very Yummy. The Chow Mein was on the average side . Not a bad deal for Americanized Chinese Food. They take Credit Cards with a $5 minimum. read more

They serve large portions which is good if you like taking home leftovers. They also have a buffet area where one can pick what they want to eat. Very few veggie options. They had chow mein and hunan tofu. Tofu wasn't terrible, but nothing special; it was almost sweet though and lacked an authentic hunan flavor I expected. The noodles were stale and eating them left me feeling like I was trying to chew rubber. I just love this place. We always order (or get the food there) on Friday night. Tehe food is really good and very tasty. They have this soup HOT AND SOUR that is the best that I've tried. I always (or mostly) order the sauteed fish filet - combination of vegetables and pieces of fish filet; fried fish filet - very crispy and not so oily and shrimp fried rice. Also, sometimes I order mongolian beef or mongolian chicken and those are incredible good as well. I'd recommend this place, for sure! Good portion of food! The owners are very nice, friendly and polite. I think it's mom, dad and their kid. They are really good people! But, if you order for delivery, make sure you have a good....a GOOD tip for the driver (asian old man) because if you give him just 10% he starts saying he needs more, because he needs to pay for the gas and blablabla. :) read more
