What can I say, I love Fred's! I have been eating there for a while now. It always feels friendly and welcoming. I wish I could remember everyone's name, but the mother/daughter team there ALWAYS makes sure you are taken care of, the order is right and you leave with a smile. The food is wonderful and a delightful change from the chewy cheesesteaks you get everywhere else. If you go during lunch rush, expect a wait. Be smart, call ahead. I used this place yesterday for the lunch for my monthly meeting at work. I had never had them before, but I heard great things, and I also looked up reviews online. When I called to place my order, I spoke with Marcus, who was pleasant and efficient. He even went the extra step to get the names of each person to put on their sandwiches. I requested they be ready at a specific time. Upon arrival, they were packed! Marcus maintained that jovial attitude, which shows me he cares about his job. The sandwiches were ready only a few minutes late of my expected time, but I understood why! Everyone enjoyed their sandwich immensely! If I could give it lower than 1 star I would. The food was mediocre at best. When I called in my order the lady that answered the phone was very rude and has zero customer service skills. When I came in to pick up my food she continued to give me a bad attitude and when I did not tip her she rolled her eyes and stormed into the back. Fred needs to fire her and get someone that knows how to deal with customers. The entire vibe of the restaurant would increase. read more

Fantastic cheesesteak sandwiches!! Kudos to Jose for his excellent work at the grill, and to "Chevy" for her warm courtesy. I'm not from PA so I don't "know" what is considered authentic, but dang, these were tasty! Ordered four sandwiches to go--and changed the order twice--so though I cannot comment on the overall dining experience, I CAN say the employees were friendly even in the face of a waffling customer. I've been eating cheese steaks all my life born and raised in Philly. When I came to Texas 15 years ago Fred's was the closest thing to a good cheese steak on inwood rd. since then he started per say franchising big misteak LOL unless Fred is running it. I've got sick at one location and very unsatisfied at another. the meat was chopped so much it had no flavor and was very dry. Fred is a great guy but the locations that he does not oversee are not good. Sorry most people in Texas don't know any better so I guess they might survive on those customers. read more

Fred is a Philadelphia fan and his Cheese Steaks are really well done. I have eaten them in a couple of his locations one in Richardson and the one in Carrollton and both locations hold to the tradition. Great Menu and really good sandwiches read more

Adair's is a hole in the wall. The Elbow Room is a hole in the wall. Fred's is a restaurant with a simple ambiance with two clean bathrooms, no writing on the walls or booths, with friendly employees and fellow patrons. read more

We don't come here for the ambiance but for their delicious Philly Cheesesteaks - meets expectations every time. With the exception of one visit, the food is always ready quickly. Wouldn't waste the calories on their mozzarella sticks - nothing special (tasted like it came straight from the box). read more

I got the spicy mozzarella sticks and a #15 with lettuce- so good!!! We ordered it to go and next time I will ask for extra wrapping or an extra bag (perhaps a plastic bag???). When I got home, the bag had drained through the wrapping and the bag all over my dress and stained it. Totally worth it though. So good. I can't wait to go back! Food is very good. Service is lacking. Not the place to go at lunch if you're in a hurry. Called in an order to go with limited lunch time and told 5-10 minutes when I asked how long. There is no separate line for called-in orders like most places so you wait in line with all the undecided folks. So I waited to pay/pick-up for 10 minutes only to find out "they don't drop your philly toothpicks in to cook until they know you're there." So I wasted another 7 minutes waiting. Needless to say I went way over my alloted albeit short lunch. One would think they'd tell you this on the phone (let us know when you arrive) instead of wasting your time. read more

This place hits the spot when you're craving a cheesesteak sandwich. This place serves up some of the better cheesesteaks I've had. The sandwich wasn't greasy at all and packed with meat and fillings. The fries (crab and sweet) were really good as well! I was a little confused that the sweet potato fries had cinnamon sugar on it but we still polished it off! My family was the only one there for a few minutes so the man working there turned on a kids movie for my girls which was really sweet of him! We'll be back! read more

I've been eating here for years. They have an incredible cheese steak sandwich. It's juicy and wonderful. Their fried pickles are also worth trying. The place is kind of small and poorly decorated, but I don't go for the view. If you want to try this place at lunch, don't go at noon. Show up at 11:15 or 11:30 at the latest, otherwise plan to wait a while. read more

My husband and I moved from the suburbs of Philly three years ago and missed real cheesesteaks...until we found Fred's! Being a Philly native I have been looking all over Texas for a decent cheese steak. None of this mushrooms and peppers crap they do down here. From the moment you walk into Freds it's totally 'Philly', the smell, the wait staff, even the Utz potato chips. It was a comforting feeling for me. Went in this weekend for a few cheesesteaks. I can really say that Fred's never disappoints. My usual is the mushroom cheesesteak but I've tried a few others on the menu. My son loves their shorty burger and fries. I've tried the Plano, Carrollton and Allen location. Fred was in the kitchen this last visit too. read more

Since I have Celiac, I can't have gluten, so I haven't been able to eat sandwiches in forever...this place had gluten free bread and wraps! My grandparents lived on 8th and Passyunk so i grew up two blocks from Pats & Genos. This joint in the heart of Texas is as close to philly as you can get. Amarosa rolls and Dr. j on the wall. Highly recommend if you want a piece of real philly. read more

None of these other wing joints can compare to Fred's. The wings are so well seasoned, you can skip the sauce; in fact, sauce defiles them.

Not my first time at this location and the "steaks" here are okay. What I don't appreciate is the nickel and diming they practice here. A cheesesteak comes with cheese, if I ask for Provolone why is it a $1.25 upcharge? Small issue? Yeah! But this is how 2 sandwiches, 2 puny orders of fries and one bottle of soda becomes a lunch over $26. Actual amount of this "upgraded" cheese experience was a mystery as I barely saw any of it when I opened the bun. And it wasn't like there was much meat to obscure it. This is by far the best philly cheesesteak I have had. That begin said I am not from up north so I can only compare it to local cheesesteak places and by far this is the best I have ever had. One word of warning is it tends to get crowded around lunch time we thought that we might not get a table but one opened up for us. Next time we will take an earlier lunch. On a whim I swung into this place about 7 years ago since I'm always on the lookout for a good Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich; These will spoil you - all other Philly's from other restaurants will pale in comparison. The fries are the perfect size (thin-cut) and crispiness. Be sure to add Fred's Sauce to your sandwich. My kids like it made with Ranch dressing - go figure. If I had one complaint it would be the consistency of the sandwiches. Sometimes they don't have enough meat and you can close the bun all the way so it looks like you're eating a plain roll. You can ask for more meat but it'll take awhile since they cook to order. My solution - always order the double meat and if it's too much just rake some off. Better too much than too little.
