Price was insane...but worth it cause the lobster was AMAZING. Never had so much lobster meat in one meal before! However, the chicken was bland and the seafood seems a bit undercooked because it was really hard to chew... Service was friendly and great, kept changing plates for us without asking. EDIT: Went there the day after cause my uncle wanted to try it. Ordered hella things and the price was almost equivalent to the Lobster Combo hahaha. We came here for Mother's Day dinner tonight since we wanted to try somewhere else besides two Chinese restaurants we normally go. We were very disappointed for its service and food. Besides no waiter showed up again after we ordered food and its so-so taste food; the worst thing was the honesty of its business. We ordered a lobster -- charged us for 6.5 lbs but it looked like only 3 lbs) and a crab charged for 3 lbs but looked like maximum about 2 lbs! We also asked for having extra pumpkins (extra charge) but only came with 5 pieces in the whole dish! Not the place it used to be when I first went almost 10 yrs ago. Was invited to join a group for some dim sum and decided to go. They really didn't have many options to choose from and didn't come around very often and when they did, it was the same options from the last time they passed by. My family has been coming here for quite awhile, every since I was in high school. This place gets the job done: decent affordable dim sum, no wait on Sundays at 11am, and very close to home. Although I prefer another nicer and bigger dim sum restaurant just a few min away, this place is smaller and less packed which is why my dad likes coming here. The shu mai is always my favorite here, it was huge when we went yesterday! Very juicy and delicious. It took awhile for the shrimp in noodle roll (idk the name) to come out, that was the only disappointment of our visit. Despite that, we got way too many shu mai, har gaw, chicken feet, dan tat, etc. We also had an order of the ho fun noodles, decent noodles. I had better in Chinatown. No carts of goodness rolling around yet but was seated and provided a menu. Holy crap! I have no idea what the stuff I like is called! A few folks were passing thru with random stuff I also pass.... The guy that sat me, parked me next to some Chinese guy that must have been 90 and he sat there smacking his lips the WHOLE time I was there....please for the love of God stop! I asked my server (or maybe he wasn't) several questions, but alas he either didn't understand or speak English so I always had to wait for a translator. Fun times. Service was slow, place was clean and food was mediocre at best. I did enjoy the spare ribs and the shrimp balls. The four stars is strictly for the food. I think here and Joy Luck Palace are the only two Chinese restaurants that have blown me away. Definitely go with a large group, especially those who like seafood, so you can do family style. Oh, and have the money to blow on geoduck and other seafood dishes. It will be worth it. I promise you! Also, more importantly, bring at least one person who has been here before and knows what to order. I recommend ordering just seafood and that one beef dish with the big ass bone (pictured). They cook their fish and meat perfectly. Despite the beef being well done, it was very tender, moist, and flavorful. Same thing with the fried fish heads (pictured). Lobster is average, but I would skip the noodles entirely. Nothing special. Service is a little better than average for a Chinese restaurant. They offer new plates for almost every entree, and we ordered more than ten dishes. This is my uncle's favorite dim sum place so anytime they want dim sum, this is the place they'll choose. Right when you walk in, you get greeted with the full tanks of lobsters, crab, fish, & shrimp. Some of them suckers are huge! I can only imagine how much one entree could potentially be when charged per pound. Anyways, the ladies that drive the cart everywhere are somewhat friendly. Of course, sometime they are a bit pushy, too, insisting that you "try it". Some are just regular. The staples of dim sum are made well here. If they don't have what you want on their carts, you can request it and the kitchen will make it for you. At times, they aren't that quick with your request though. The most recent experience was when my parents got back from vacation and we wanted to hang out with them. We wanted dim sum, but made sure we got there early. If you're a pro at dim sum dining, you know that you should always come early to get a good table, as well as get fresh food. We got seated right away and I was surprised that it wasn't full. Even after we ate, there was plenty of room left in the restaurant. I remember the first time we dined it, it was hella packed. Maybe people have discovered other places to dine and go there now? I don't know. We don't mind this place b/c it's near our home and conveniently located. The prices are reasonable and the food is good. This place makes average dim sum. It's not incredibly tasty, but not so bad that you can't eat it. Their steamed dumplings aren't great. The skin is too soft and the fillings are very mushy and grainy - unpleasant to eat. Their siu mai are very large and wet, but have some nice flavor. We also got their tofu, sesame balls, fried dumplings, tofu dessert, chicken feet, chinese broccoli, clams and lobster noodles. Their lobster noodles were a little bland and slimy, with not a lot of lobster meat, but the noodles had some good chewy texture. Everything else was pretty average. It wasn't too crowded here on a Sunday afternoon, so perhaps this is a good place to go if you want a quick dim sum fix. read more

The food here is on point. My friends and I decided to eat dim sum on our lunch. Our order includes: shrimp dumpling, sui beef chow fun, seafood fried rice, pineapple/custard bun and steamed pork bun. So we got hoolakabooled here. In a vain search for dim sum for dinner on a Friday night we took a chance, even if just for regular food. We don't speak any form of Chinese or have too much experience above the takeout variety, so the waiter suggested their special fish, which came 2 ways, in soup and steamed. We were hesitant about a whole fish for 2 people and a toddler, but he assured us it would be a good match. We added some beef choy sum for the little one and set to work. THE FISH WAS SO GOOD...and we found out how good when the bill came. After reading some of the other reviews mentioning the fish upsell it makes sense but we were astonished at $110 for 2 people. Yes, I should've asked the price, but just assumed and was ready to pay around $40 for the fish...and it was $32/lb. Well played, Chinese purveyor of seafood. After questioning they said it was a special fish from Korea...I understand that they're a business so I chalked it up to a lesson learned, a great meal, and a funny story. The only reason why I'm giving this restaurant an extra star is because their food is actually fresh & flavorful. Other than that, this place sucks. There is not that much variety and we would have to wait 5 minutes sometimes between each dish we get because they are so slow bringing carts out with more food. Every time we come here, we need to ask over 3 workers for the same thing because either they don't understand or they just don't care. I understand that dim sum is Chinese food, but just because we don't speak Chinese doesn't give them a reason to not serve us properly. This is my parent's favorite spot for a nice dinner and dim sum on Saturday mornings. They have a lot of nice entrees too...I'm fond of their lobster noodles. Nom nom nom nom nom.... The owner's dog is wondering on the front counter with the food. Saw the owner or relative of the owner carried the dog to the kitchen. I really suspect if the person who carried the dog has ever washed her hands before handling the dim sum to the guests. ughhhh... totally gone down hill in a bad way. I came here for lunch recently, and they only had a few of the steaming hot carts with the dim sum loaded onto it. Instead, the waiter guy brings you a paper and pencil. You mark down what items you want and give the waiter the slip. Your items come out one by one or a few at a time. I'm really NOT a fan of these type places simply because the quality dips way down when places do this. You could totally tell that the dim sum was made days ago and was steamed after we ordered it. The problem being, that good dim sum MUST be cooked right after making it. If you let it sit in the fridge, and cook it later, it pretty much sucks. This was apparent with the few dishes we ordered. The shrimp dumplings were mushy, and the delicate white dough skin just fell apart after you lifted it up off the bamboo steamer. The pork and shrimp dumplings had a off color and tough texture to them. Again, an overall terrible mushy texture to these as well. The most offensive offering was the fish/prawn stuffed green bell peppers. Instead of being crisp and green, the peppers were grey-ish green and surprise... MUSHY! Seeing how I'm paying the same amount of money for these glorified dim sum LEFTOVERS, this place is a HUGE ripoff. I'd stay away, and go to a busier dim sum place that cooks everything right after making them. You can try to fool the people with your shortcuts - and you might get away with it. We used to split our dim sum visits between Fu Lam Moon and New Hong Kong Restaurant in Hayward. With New Hong Kong closing down, Fu Lam Moon has become our go-to dim sum place. The food quality here has always been excellent. Their traditional/popular dim sum dishes like har gow, shui mai, bok choy, etc. are as good as anyone else's. The service and the atmosphere is typical of a standard chinese restaurant. It does get very crowded for the dim sum on weekends and if you're not there before 12, be prepared to wait around 30 minutes. read more

**This review is for the BANQUET SERVICE** Fu Lam Moon has been in this area for such a long time. We've eaten here since I was a kid. It's really too bad that today's reception marred my experience of this place. We were looking for a restaurant to celebrate two events in one reception. We came in a couple of weeks ago prior to the event to choose a menu and set the price and details of the event. I worked with Angela and she seemed pleasant. She promised me the back corner of the restaurant which was semi-private. We paid our deposit and that was that. On the day of the event, we were promised a 1:30pm start time, although on our booking date she told me if some of my guests arrived a little earlier it would be okay. She also promised me a couple of tables set up for a dessert table. Some of my guests arrived at 1pm. They were turned away and were told to come back at 1:30pm. Not a problem. I arrived around 1pm to decorate the dessert table and not only were my tables not set up, but Angela told me she moved us to another part of the restaurant and "it was better for you (me)." Okay? We waited awhile to finally get the dessert tables and on top of that, 1:30pm came and went and the tables for my guests weren't ready. My guests were overflowing in their entrance area because they had no place to go and were told they couldn't yet be seated. Meanwhile, I noticed a party of Chinese people all dressed in black arriving after my guests and immediately getting seated in the area my reception had been booked in. They were also being served entrees almost as immediately as they sat down! 2pm rolls around and I'm asking Angela where our food is?? Guests are hungry! She kept saying, "It's coming, it's coming," but I had to check with her AT LEAST THREE times before the first appetizer came out. I also had come to find out the larger Chinese party was there for a funeral. When I asked Angela what happened to the area I booked for the party (and noticed this other party had been seated there instead), she told me she "forgot" that this reservation was made TWO months ago. OKAY... So a) this party made a reservation for a FUNERAL reception TWO MONTHS ago for this exact date (wow, they must really have seen that death coming!), and b) how the heck are you going to FORGET another party booked on the same day, for the same time and in the same area of the restaurant? What kind of business are you running if you can't keep two simple reception reservations straight?? I realized they obviously had given preference to the other group, not only displacing my party, but making my guests wait to be seated AND served, AND beyond the contracted time. I tried asking Angela about this and she shrugged me off and said, "We talk later." Additionally, one of my guests had ordered 6 Tsingtao beers for two tables and they brought out 12 beers EACH for both tables! When he tried to clarify with the server that it was 6 beers for the two tables, he was met with an annoyed groan and basically that they wouldn't take the beer back because they had already opened them all! At the end of the event and when it came time to square up the bill, Angela walked over along with a tall, skinny man who she referred to as her boss. When I again voiced my displeasure with their service and felt that there should be some type of compensation or discount, the tall man barked at me in a brusk manner. What he said was intelligible, but the way he yelled at me was extremely unprofessional! It was almost as though they came over with the bill ready to tag team me and play good cop/bad cop! Angela didn't seem too concerned about my complaints either and simply said, "Next time I give you free dessert when you come for dim sum." She was dismissive and really didn't seem to care AT ALL. Free dessert!? You can keep it. The fact they gave preference to the other group (I won't even go into the fact that they were Chinese and I am not), were seemingly unapologetic about it all, and pretty much dishonest about the whole situation left me highly annoyed and disappointed in this place. It's really unfortunate. I won't be coming back here again, and you can bet I won't ever suggest them to anyone looking to hold a banquet reception here! read more

Sunday Dim Sum Review. Believe this was my first time coming here for dim sum... chances are it will be my last. With two Mayflowers available at my disposal, and at least two other dim sum places in Milpitas, this place would easily rank at the bottom of that list of 5. One Plus. Very little/no wait to get seated (Correlation to previous mentions? Perhaps) Food was average at best. (Nothing that I didn't enjoy eating, but nothing that had me craving seconds). Typical dim sum fare, slower service (less roving carts). Turnip cakes didn't show up at our table (after at least two requests) until we were pretty much done eating. I was hungry when I got home. If you don't want to wait for the other restaurants, and you just need a quick dim sum fix, sure... come on down. But personally, I'd rather wait until I go to Mayflower with the parents and "magically" get seated without getting a number. read more

The ladies still push out the carts full of dim sum goodies. Well, I actually wouldn't come here for the goodies anymore. They have lost their wonderful flavor and the pieces we ordered either seemed extra salty or very bland. Chrysanthemum tea is also a high charge. Thankfully, the manager that walks around checking out the status of patrons and taking away empty baskets noticed my grandmother motioning to one of the ladies pushing the carts. The traffic alone eliminates the places I turn to for Dim Sum in Daly City, Millbrae, San Francisco and Oakland. Eat here at your own risk! I wish I could give zero stars. This place is so dirty and disgusting, I'm having a really hard time understanding the rave reviews. When they can't even be bothered to change out the dirty table linens in between guests.. I really have to question the cleanliness of the entire establishment. Everything is FILTHY. The floor, the walls, the table linens, the vests that the servers wear, the fish tanks up front, the tubes hanging out of the tanks. It's all just gross. I shudder to think of what the kitchen must look like, away from the eyes of their customers. My husband and I gave it an honest try but couldn't last longer than a few plates. Terrible service and sub-par food to go along with their repulsive sanitation standards. A quick search on the Alameda County Dept. of Environmental Health will bring up their most current health inspection results. Fu Lam Moon had 6 out of 11 HIGH RISK violations at their last posted inspection in October of 2013. These are the risks associated with causing food borne disease. Need I say more?! I called in last Thursday to make a reservation for 10 people on Saturday 2/3/2014 at 6:30PM. The lady who I talked to confirmed with me twice about my reservation. And guess what happened on the day of? They lost my reservation! When I told them I made a reservation on Thursday, the hostess said she can't find my name on the loose leaf paper she was holding. I had to show her my call history on my phone that I did indeed call to make a reservation. There were already a bunch of other parties waiting to be seated and it was just chaotic. Another lady came by (I'm assuming the manager) and was saying the loose leaf paper was a complete mess. Great, that's not something I wanted to hear. I spoke with her and she said she'll add me back on the 6:30PM reservation but on the bottom. Fine, we'll wait since it's pack everywhere else. There were about 4 other parties with 6:30PM reservations and they haven't even been seated yet. Oh and it only gets better when the manager's relatives came in with a later reservation got seated first! Are you kidding me?? What's the point of making reservations if you're just going to sit people down that you know. Some of the parties left because they saw what happened. After 1.5 hour wait and still haven't been seated, my boyfriend's father spoke with the manager and said how unacceptable it is for them to keep seating the their relatives or people they know and not seat the people who made reservation. With that, we finally got seated and ordered our food. My parents decided to add a plate of fried rice after we ordered. When they brought us the plate of fried rice....I was stunned. There's 10 people on this table and the fried rice came in a small plate that was the same size as the plate we're eating on. Are you kidding me? How are you going to serve 10 people with that portion? Not to mention service was terrible, we needed to refill our tea and they took the teapot away and never returned it. I had to ask for another pot of tea. Overall it was not the dinner we were expecting. My parents love coming here from time to time because they have a good seafood selection. I thought the dim sum was decent, but I didn't like the fact that my friend's plate was dirty BEFORE we started eating, and mine felt like it was a little bit greasy. Just came back from dinner and it's safe to say I'm never coming back! The service needs major overhauling. I liked the place better when it was dingy and dirty - before they cleaned it up with paint and new furniture. The service then was way better. Walnut Prawn. Bleah! Peking Spare Ribs. Bleah! Salty Fish Fried Rice. Bleah! Nothing to write home about. What pissed me off was that the wait staff was just standing there by our table, hovering and taking to each other. I finally had to ask if there was an issue and all of a sudden, they were like "oh no, nothing!" and walked away. WTH? Don't waste your time (because they obviously don't spend theirs on you). So I did it... I went back for dim sum upon recommendation from a friend to go back and give this place another shot. I came back at about the same time as my first encounter. However this time this was a much different scenario. The place was full and busy. The selection of dim sum items was vast and flowed continuously. Everything tasted great and service was prompt. I still find the fish tanks in the front lobby disturbing. In one of the tanks there was a huge fish floating upside down. There were bubbles forming in the tank which meant that the poor guy was starting to decompose and break down. Not a good sign for all the other fish that were in the tank. I have been to Oakland for dim sum and here countless times and to tell ya the truth I prefer Fu Lam Moon instead of the dimsum places in Oakland. The dim sum is really fantastic and have a very wide variety for a smaller dim sum restaurant! They always have what I want, even on weekdays, which is rare for other places *ahem* Jade Villa. My "Chinese donuts," cheung fan, xiao mai, and other goodies are never served cold like in Oakland and I have never had a bug in my food. I think the service is ok and that is probably b/c I come here w/ my bf who if a fluent Mandarin speaker. I think the only thing that I do not like about this place is the interior. It just looks kinda old and greasy. oh yeah, AVOID weekends! its friggin packed so that must say that its good. The prices are really cheap too for good quality. My bf and I get full off of a total of $15 bucks! *UPDATE* I came here on 12/22/07 and found that they have raised their prices. Each "regular" dish is $2.50. I remember when this place only charged between $1.50-1.75. It wouldn't be a huge deal if maybe they would buy new chopsticks, plates, and the plastic table top (the one that goes over the table cloth). I used to come here long ago when I was very young and inexperience. But now, I will never come back here again because of varies of issues. The food used to be ok when it first open but as time goes by the quality and quanity sink lower and lower, the service was horrible, high level of MSG, and scam. The Scam: My friends and I came here and order "Live steamed shrimps". Usually the server would scoop from the tanks they have out front, but this time he didn't. When the plate came out, the shrimps were soft and smelly as if it either previously frozen or been dead for quite sometime. We ask the server if he can change it for us, and told him that we didn't see him scoop anything out of the tanks. The guy all sudden can't speak English now. A yelper suggested that I go to Asian Pearl or Fu Lam Moon for dim sum. I tried to do AP but it was packed and I was starving so I went to FLM instead and I was so glad. I got in at around 1 pm and was seated right away. The carts took a little while to get around but that's ok. The food was super yummy, I had a total of 10 dishes all 2.20 and two mango puddings to end the meal. The total came to be around 30 bucks. We had pork and shrimp dumplings, shrimp balls, baked and steamed pork buns and some sticky rice, oh yeah- we also had two mango puddings One thing I quickly noticed was that I was the only latin dude in the whole place, everyone was Chinese so I figure this place must be pretty authentic.
