Old-school American-style Chinese. Feels like stepping into the past, except for the flat-screens in the bar. Had the giant Scorpion Bowl, which is essentially a kiddie pool filled with a fruity version of a Long Island Ice Tea. Comes with really long straws - super sweet and fun. Ordered the Pu Pu platter. The best items on the tray were the eggrolls and the spare ribs, but it comes in a lazy susan/hibachi plate that's a kick. Kung Pao tofu was quite good, so was the Crispy Duckling (1/2). They give you crispy egg noodles with sweet and sour sauce and spicy mustard when you sit down. I find that charming. The wait staff was attentive and friendly. I love Fu's palace. In college, we used to do Rush events there. Most recently, my wife threw me a "surprise" 35th birthday there. The staff has been so accommodating for every event. Not only that, the drink prices for the bar tab are very reasonable. I highly recommend Fu's for a big event if that kind of venue is your style. The food is good too. It's pretty standard Chinese restaurant fare, but they do a lot of the stuff homemade. If you walk in there between lunch and dinner, you'll usually see someone at a table filling the potstickers, which are awesome. I'm a fan of their General Tso's and the Honey Walnut Shrimp. This is not some fancy schmancy asian fusion restaurant, if that's what you're looking for. This is just good grub Chinese food. read more

This place is so cute! I absolutely loved their food and their service. They have all your classic favorites and more. I got the combination dinner it comes with so much food for $11.95. It came with a soup, rice, your choice of entree and a fried egg roll. My fiancé got a cup of hot and sour soup and chicken chow mein. As appetizers we got steamed pork wontons and crab ragoons. Open late & up the street from the hotel, stopped in at this corner spot. I'm assuming it was the owner sitting up front that greeted us. She was nice. Asked if we were here for take out or to dine in & said someone would fix a table for us. Boasted at how the prices here are good, for lots of food & everything is made fresh. Seated quickly. Waitress brought us water and hot tea, a pleasant surprise. We got our food in less than 5 minutes, so I'm not so sure it was made "fresh". Especially the egg fu young, which normally is. Ordered the combination plate w/ chicken lo mein, which came with fried rice & egg roll & egg drop soup for starters. Wow! Lots of food for sure! The fried rice was really good, I'd probably order that as my dish. Egg roll & chicken lo mein were good too. My mom ordered the egg fu young, which is something she regularly orders from other places & this one just wasn't the greatest. It had an overpowering spice that I couldn't tell what it was & it was drowned in the gravy sauce. And, I just got off the phone with the owner because I noticed that she overcharged me $13, and placed an order that I made with her personally over the phone, she instead put it through GRUB HUB so she could make extra money! For your Old School Chinese food fix, Fu's Palace is the spot. It's in my 'hood, so I enjoy its convenience...although I typically order delivery from them. My favorite thing, while very simple, is their vegetable noodle soup. This item brings up my childhood as it was what was ordered whenever I got sick and it would nurse me back to health. I have ordered from Fu's every time I've been sick at home and they are prompt and always friendly. Always nice when you're under the weather and can't venture out or have th energy to make something. Lo mein? Check. Kung pao chicken? Check. Mongolian Beef? Check. Egg foo young? Check! Fu's Curry Shrimp for life! This is another funky old Chinese joint on Pico that looks like it stepped off of a Disneyland back lot. The inside's not much to look at, but if you're in the mood for some cheap Americanized Chinese food, this usually hits the spot. The menu has just about every basic you can imagine and if they don't have it, you can ask and they'll usually whip it up for you. My favorite thing about King FU delivery is you can order online and the system they use calculates as you add items and allows you to select how hot you like everything (mild, medium, spicy) and include special instructions (like, very, very, very light on the oil, please) that they miraculously just about always follow. Like the curry shrimp. I like to order it super light oil with some brown rice and it makes for a naughty food night that doesn't cost me a week's calories... or salary. Eater beware. They may not use much MSG but the food is full of secret wind sauce. If you're new to sleeping together, this one's a don't if you catch my drift. read more

As I was driving on Pico, I noticed that there were a fair number of Chinese restaurants. But, it's not the type of restaurants you will find in Monterey Park or Alhambra. It is full of Chinese American restaurants. You know, restaurants that serve Chop Suey, Almond Chicken, Egg Fu Young, and Tangerine Beef. All of which, I have not had until today. Until a few weeks ago, I have always turned my nose up towards "Chinese American" food. My parents have brained washed me to think that Chinese American food was bad food. But, after reading the Fortune Cookie Chronicles: Adventures in the World of Chinese Food for my book club, I have learned that it is just a different type of Chinese food. It is not authentic Chinese and definitely not American - it is Chinese American. Now, I have a whole new appreciation for Chinese American Restaurants and their work staff. I even enjoyed my lunch and book club at Fu's Palace, a Chinese American restaurant. It was the perfect place for our book club meeting. The food was decent, cheap and plentiful! The wait staff and management were nice. TMy favorite was the Egg Fu Young. I might have to come back for more and try the General's Tso Chicken, but shh don't tell the parentals. I do believe this was the best Chinese food I've ever had - and it was delivery! Everything was fresh, all of the vegetables were cooked perfectly (usually they're limp and overcooked) and even the wantons in the wanton soup were fresh! The food was so hot when it arrived (in under 45 minutes) that I had to wait for it to cool down. THIS NEVER HAPPENS with delivery! I was so impressed I called the restaurant to compliment them. I came for the sizzling rice soup. Apparently, it's not found in every Chinese restaurant. So, a quick Yelp search later, Fu's Palace I found. As someone else said, it's Americanized Chinese food, But, I like that. I don't like to see my dinner hanging from a hook in the window.
