I'd been mourning the loss of Giorgio's, at 53rd and 9th, when I recently walked past Galaxy, and noticed the menu on display looked very much like Giorgio's. Sure enough, many of the staff here used to work at G's, and the menu is almost exactly the same (perhaps with a bit of inflation here or there). Words cannot express my happiness, as G's had been my regular breakfast place. Speaking of which, the breakfast specials, available until 11, are a great bargain, including in their prices not only coffee but a small glass of fresh-squeezed juice. My favorite is the Western omelette, which I ask for with pepper jack or feta (extra, but who cares?). Love the just-right squishy home fries, too. Also, try the milkshakes; I'm kind of addicted to the Health Shake. read more

This is a great neighborhood joint. The service is fast and nice. They usually always have a table to seat you and the food is good. This is our go-to when we don't know what to eat - the menu reminds me a bit of Schitt's Creek's Cafe Tropical with all of the options lol. Galaxy has become one of my go-to's during this crisis and I'm thankful they've remained open - diner cuisine is the epitome of comfort food, and this comfort food is tasty as hell. Stick with the classics and you can't go wrong - highlights for me include the chicken salad (any format), Caesar salad (try it with salmon), chicken francese, and of course the burger. This is my first review I've ever written, however, I had to leave one! I just ordered the traditional roast turkey with white turkey gravy and it was awful. Simply tasteless! I mean I don't understand how a restaurant can sell this type of food! Unfortunately, I ordered it for delivery so I couldn't do much about it. I already paid for it. The turkey was watery, the gravy with zero flavor and the green beans again tasteless. I have no idea how a place like this can stay in business if they serve this type of food. Is this a 5 star gourmet restaurant? Nope, not by a long shot. Is it a 5 star diner? Absolutely, yes! We were visiting NYC and were looking for lunch as we continued our sightseeing for the day. We walked up and down the street, and for some reason, this place intrigued us. We took and chance and went in, and am I ever glad we did! It's loud, crowded, noisy, full of hustle and bustle. They serve an incredible amount of people, and they do it well. We were seated promptly, and our server was at our table right away. I settled on the Galaxy burger, and, indeed, it was a damn fine burger. the first were great, too. Breakfast specials are reliably good and reasonably priced. Most of the staff are friendly. On the weekends it gets super busy and they might be short staffed like most places are right now because of Covid. Kind staff who are very quick to get you to order and move on. Nothing wrong with that, The omelette was extremely large. Even though it says only 3 eggs, it seriously looked like 5 eggs. I wish that I can give this place zero stars. I went there to pick up an order and was treated unprofessionally from the waitress who thinks she's Mrs. Galaxy. The waitress was horrible she refused to serve us. She was very nasty does not belong there. Even the manager was like scared to deal with her. She's the Asian waitress who works in the evenings do not deal with her. Personally, she needs to learn how to treat everyone fairly and equally. She needs to get another job. Okay so here's my review of the Galaxy diner in Hell's kitchen located on the northwest corner of 46th Street and 9th avenue. I have not been here since perhaps the late '80s and the food was delicious back then service was quick and courteous I'm glad to see that these guys are still around and while the food cost more now the food was delicious and service was fast and courteous. As you can see I had a very large breakfast Murray's omelette which has Nova Scotia salmon, red onion, pancetta and cherry tomato. And it comes with home fried potatoes and a toasted bagel. I also ordered a side of sausage because I remember them being fat and juicy and they still are. While the menu says orange juice and coffee are included, they are not. I did not mind paying for them because I'm not poor nor am I cheap with myself when it comes to my own pleasure. And I have lots of fun this morning a nice French couple and their daughter sat next to me and the mother and father were having corn flakes and fruit for breakfast which I thought was kind of weird them being from France I thought they would be eating croissants are having coffee. Their daughter had a big stack of pancakes and fruit which I thought was pretty cool too. When my food came the father looked over and said under his breath, il doit avoir faim. I then turned to him and responded,oui j'ai très faim. You should have seen the look on his face and we started chatting turns out they live in Paris and he teaches English. So we started speaking English from that point on. I told him about Hell's kitchen and where to go to see the good stuff in New York City like the Central Park zoo the carousel the art museums and I even told him he should go see the Statue of Liberty while they are here. It turns out this is their second vacation to New York City and they had already seen the Statue of Liberty the first time. After they left four lovely lady sat down and they too were from France. I did not strike up a conversation with them although I heard them speak English. I was almost finished with my meal and wanted to go home. This diner is at the end of my road and I am a regular here for weekend breakfast or weekday lunches sometimes. The staff are always friendly and the food is nearly always good. I like the Amarando wrap with eggs, tomato and feta for example or the Wisconsin Omelette with sausage, onions, mushrooms and cheddar. I have to say the dishes are a little variable depending on who cooked them so the omelette won't always look the same, sometimes folded with cheese inside and sometimes cheese melted over it instead etc. this place is pretty affordable too, the omelette is $10.95 with potatoes and toast included. The wrap is about $8 or $11 if I add ham or bacon. I often have the friend chicken with mash and a soup starter for about $18. I like the atmosphere there and I am delighted for them they survived the pandemic to be packed out again. read more

Its a greasy spoon. Don't kid yourself. My 9 year old (when I told her the place had "crappy" reviews), said she thought it was delicious. So, if you take your reviews from kids, you'll be happy. They wanted a quick breakfast for dinner kind of meal. So we went here before a before, and they had breakfast for dinner. Ah, nothing like paying $6.50 for two slices of french toast. Or nearly $4 for a bagel with cream cheese. I tried to have a buffalo chicken wrap. The problem? No buffalo sauce to speak of, and the chicken seemed reheated in a microwave. The curly fries were good and hot. My dinner companion had a french dip sandwich that was ok, at best. The dip, though, had a burnt maple syrup taste - and not necessarily in a good way. I suppose if you just want breakfast, there are worst places. But given how there are so many other places nearby, just find something else. You can do better. read more

On saturday we came here mid-morning and was able to get a table immediately outside. Our table was horrible, and slanted severely towards one side. I kept spilling my water. Slightly delayed waiter service in general, but hey, we were in no rush. I got farm fresh eggs and corned beef hash/toast and my fiance got the California omelet. His omelet had avocado in it, but I swear it was just green colored synethetics! The whole thing tasted mehh... I don't know a lot about New York food, but for me this place was just average. The service was average. The waiter wasn't really friendly at all, but he wasn't rude either, and only came to take our order and bring the check. The food was average, too. The fries reminded me of McDonald's fries, or just about any fries anywhere else in the world. My entree was so unmemorable that I couldn't remember what I'd gotten the next day. I seem to remember the menu having very limited vegetarian options, though, so I probably got a grilled cheese or something similar. The atmosphere was also average. They seemed to be trying to make it interesting with the ceiling mural, but it just looked tacky. I also tried the make-your-own-juice thing, and wound up with something that was more the consistency of a smoothie - maybe they misunderstood and thought I was asking for a smoothie? Either way, it tasted just like the smoothies I make at home in my own blender. Nothing to brag about. Overall, it wasn't bad. I wouldn't say "stay away!" or anything like that. But I'm guessing you could probably do better in the area. It would probably seem a lot better if it was two in the morning and nothing else was open, but we went in the middle of the day. If you are looking for a solid meal outside of the Times Square craziness, I recommend checking out Galaxy Diner. It has a huge menu, tasty food and clean bathrooms. We stopped here for breakfast and the diner was only about 1/3 full. I ordered the lox and bagel and my husband ordered an omelet. Coffee was hot and fresh. We had our food in front of us in less than 10 minutes. My husband's plate was filled with hash browns and a huge omelet. The sausage was in big pieces and there was lots of cheese. My bagel was toasted, came with a huge square of cream cheese, plenty of smoked salmon, some red onions, tomato slices, capers and lots of lettuce (which was a little random). We have just arrived in NYC, checked in and we were delirious due to lack of sleep and starving. It was so frikkin cold that morning as we were walking around Hell's Kitchen looking for a breakfast spot. We ended up settling here because well it was freezing to be wandering around, we were hangry, it looked like there were a lot of people here and my friends wanted more food options compared to other places nearby. By the time I checked Yelp, it was too late as we were already seated and warm. Food was okay but definitely did not satisfy my craving. We stopped here since we were staying nearby, but it wasn't time to check in. We had potato skins, cheese fries and the smoothie that was non-dairy. The smoothie was great, and the fried potato products were crispy and tasty, though I think perhaps the fry oil sil be changed soon. After walking for hours in the cold with Christmas day crowds, we returned before going home. We had a farmer omelet and the one with avocado, both with home fries. The omelets were thin and hot-cooked well done as requested and we ate every bite. The veggies were cooked into the egg, not put in as a filling. Service was great. While walking around the area, trying to find a casual place for a semi-quick lunch, we spotted the Galaxy Dinner. A few other places we'd looked at had "pending" health inspection signs, but the Galaxy had an A and was pretty packed with native NYers (rather than tourists), so we took that as a sign. (For those wondering how we knew the difference between natives & tourists - my parents are natives and I used to live there. There's just a different vibe. I know it sounds silly). Moving on. It was a gorgeous day, so we were able to sit on their teeny patio outside (which was difficult getting into and out of, but otherwise, was delightful). My mom and I went for salads - which were HUGE - and the guys went for burgers. Too bad we realized after we ate that Five Napkin Burger was literally across the street. We probably would have gone there. The salads were good, but the burgers were NOT half-pounders like advertised. The curly fries were tasty. Overall, this is a typical NY diner. Nothing to write home about, but not bad. Would I eat here again? Sure - but there are so many other places in NYC that it wouldn't be my first choice. And definitely not for a burger! The menu is HUGE. I find that when a menu is huge with such diverse options, it means nothing is going to be amazing - because nothing is a specialty. This restaurant deserves 3 stars because of the service. When I arrived yesterday afternoon, I was greeted with a smile and was seated promptly while I waited for my friend to arrive. The server came over to ask if I wanted to order anything while I waited. When we ordered our food, the food came out quickly and the waiter was attentive to our needs. We definitely had a good experience with the service and they seem like they have a system that works well. In terms of the food and the pricing... the menu is a little overpriced for it to be a diner... for the price of our food we could have went to a nicer restaurant in the area and have gotten a better meal. I ordered the belgium waffle, I believe its #7 on their brunch specials and the waffle was okay. As expected in a diner, the portion size is huge and I could only eat half of the waffle. Overall, the waffle was nothing special. Came with a bowl of fruit and the fruit tasted fresh and was nice and chilled. I was also able to get a mimosa with my brunch order and although it was not the best mimosa I've had, it was a fun item to include with my meal. In summary, Galaxy is your typical diner. Its open 24 hours a day with decent food. Not a memorable dining experience but good service and okay food. Would visit again if I happened to be out late in the area and have a sudden case of the munchies. Overall, it was a good experience but its not a place that I likely return to anytime soon. read more

Found this place (not found in my search) on our way to another place (that was). The latter did not open until 10 and their loss was our gain. This was a perfect place for breakfast. My son and I had the Lumberjack Breakfast which included hash browns, crispy bacon, French toast with challah bread and eggs. My wife had the Luna Wrap and also looked delicious.
