Amazing family owned & operated Filipino bake shop led by a mother-daughter duo!!! They've been serving the LBC authentic traditional Filipino dishes since 1993! EVERYTHING here is fantastic!! The staff is always so kind and helpful! They offer so many wonderful varieties of not only baked goods like breads and rolls, pastries, cakes, and desserts, but also warm dishes like lumpia, pancit noodles, calamansi fried chicken and much much more!! Just off the 710 at Willow... Please do yourself a favor and stop by and support this amazing family business!!

There is a reason this place is recommended so often. They are a beast with the reputation to back it up. Friends here in Bakersfield have even heard of this place. Came here and bought a little bit of everything. Service was great and you can tell they keep busy. Favorite things we had here! Their ube tres leches is out of this world. We easily finished that bad boy in less that 5 minutes, it was divine. the Million dollar chocolate cake was nothing to sneeze at either, put some ganache on that cake and you got a Matilda cake. Empanadas were also super good. Love the size and how much meat they had. They do lean a bit on the sweet side. A lot of the bread did. The savory foods here were also good. I really enjoyed their rice and meat dishes. Just really fresh and tasty. The parking lot is small though, so it's best to find parking and come in and out quickly. I also really love that I can get a Buko pie down the street from my house. I love that for me.

I was craving for Filipino pastries and this store makes delicious ensymada. Typical over the counter service so not much to say about this. They do greet you as you walk in which I appreciate. They only have a few tables for dine in customers but I imagine most people do take out. Check out this local favorite!

I visited Gemmae Bake Shop many years ago with my parents. I remember enjoying their Filipino turo-turo lunch. Fast forward to 2025 and Gemmae has become quite popular on social media for their ube treats. I am an ube fan and so definitely made a point to go when I was in the area. Parking was a bit hard because this bake shop is in a fairly small plaza. I got lucky though and found parking in neighborhood street. Stepping in their classic turo-turo offerings are to the right and then to the left is their Filipino bakery offerings. They've got everything from pan de sal to pies. Their ube offerings include ube tres leches, ube tarts, ube cheesecake and ube banana cream pie. The ube banana cream pie looked quite tasty and so I chose to get that. I also got two of their chicken empanadas. The empanadas were $3.30 each and the ube banana cream pie was $4.35 a slice. The chicken empanadas were huge! I was quite surprised. They're deep fried and filled with shredded chicken. I had one for lunch and was quite full and content. I tried the banana cream pie a different day. This banana cream pie had a wonderful graham cracker crust that was topped with ube halaya, ube pastry cream and bananas. The banana flavor was abundant and honestly overpowered the ube. It was still a very good pie though and what I enjoyed the most was the flaky, buttery graham cracker crust. I'd definitely get this pie again; but I do wish the ube flavor would pop out more. Overall, I am happy to visit Gemmae Bake Shop after so many years. I will be back again to try some of their other ube offerings.

Whenever I'm back in Long Beach I like to stop in and grab some snacks. They have a good hot food section and some of the best lumpia you can get in town. Definitely recommend checking them out!

I had to stop by here after getting off Carnival Cruise ship. Service was excellent and quick. Bakery was clean and organized. It was Father's Day and the ube tres leches cake caught my eye. It was wonderful! Wasn't overwhelmingly sweet and it wasn't dry. The ube cookies were ok. I liked the ube white chocolate cookie the best. The chicken adobo was the best pandesal of the bunch. I did not like the longanisa pandesal. It had a lot of fat for my taste. I did not try the food this time. Maybe next time.

Stopped by for an early lunch to satisfy my cravings. The food is fresh and good flavor. The smell of freshly baked goods is so addicting. The service by the Auntie is warm.

I don't like other Oreo Cheesecake because I usually think they're too sweet; however, the Ube Oreo Cheesecake here was my favorite item amongst a few that I tried. I can't wait to go back & try more.

Great Filipino Bakery! It's on the Westside of Long Beach, in the north park of the Watson neighborhood on Willow st. Stopped in to pick up some baked goods. FOOD* Longanisa Pandesal is an amazing choice. We just warmed it up at home and shared one. Delicious!!! Check out the picture Simple fresh ingredients, baked with care. Puto is great here too, comes with the right amount of cheese so you don't have to buy it separately. SERVICE* The girls are super polite that work here. They have a few tables to sit by the hot food section. I've never tried that yet, we just come for the baked goods PARKING* Parking is easy right in front of the bakery We will be back soon

This is the original location. Their baked goods are always fresh, and if it's hot and you need to cool down, get their halo halo, which is soo good. The service is quick and friendly. The cleanliness of the tables and chairs could be improved. Otherwise, we love coming here for pan de sal and yummy Filipino desserts!

Wifey had seen an Instagram post about Gemmae's Filipino pastries, which showed their various ensaymadas, and wanted to visit Gemmae on our recent trip to Los Angeles. Ensaymadas are sweet and savory coiled breads or brioches popular in the Philippines. Besides being a bakery, Gemmae is also a Turo Turo aka point point restaurant where customers can select from a variety of Filipino dishes. 3.5 stars because I thought their pastries and savory breads were delish, but I was disappointed by their Kare Kare dish. When my Life Pahtner told me she wanted to check out Gemmae, I mentioned to her that there used to be a Gemmae Bake Shop in National City, a suburb in San Diego. I read somewhere that Gemmae was a chain of bake shops owned by one lady, but the shops are no longer affiliated and are owned separately. This location can be found in Long Beach and when we visited, we asked one of the employees if they were affiliated with the permanently closed National City location and she said they were not. This Long Beach shop is located within a small strip mall called Willow Plaza. It is located on the corner of Willow Street and Easy Avenue. This plaza is next to Willow Ocean Plaza where you can find Pinay Tess Restaurant. Gemmae is next to Easy Cleaners and Smoke Monkey. There aren't too many parking spaces at this plaza. As you enter the bake shop/Turo Turo restaurant, you're greeted by a display case of cakes and shelves of Filipino pastries. There are three tables/chair settings, distressed laminate flooring, white brick facade wall with potted plants, and large wooden spoons hanging on another wall. The Pinay who served us was friendly and answered our questions respectfully. If you're probably wondering why we would drive all the way to Long Beach to experience Gemmae, it's because Long Beach is the only place where you can purchase the unique ensaymadas they are known for. In the Instagram video my wife watched, it showed ensaymadas with flavors my wife has never seen at other Filipino bakeries we've visited. We both shared their Pandan ensaymada with Ube, which are two flavors that Filipinos are very familiar with. Immediately after I took my first bite, I could tell that the baker takes pride in making quality pastries. This ensaymada was tasty, moist, fresh, the Pandan flavor was pronounced, and they were not stingy with the Ube. We bought one of their Longanisa Pandesal for me to eat later. This morning, I microwaved the longanisa pandesal for my breakfast and I regret not buying more. While my BFF is into sweets, I'm more of a savory connoisseur. That longanisa pandesal was moist, it had plenty of chopped up longanisa, I savored every single bite, and won't make that same mistake of only buying one when we visit again. Gemmae has a hot food line where you can select from a variety of Filipino food entrees. They have the usual suspects, but they only serve sisig on the weekends. What caught my eye right away was their vibrant looking Kare Kare. I ordered a single item combo with white rice and selected Kare Kare. I wanted to try their pancit, but they had run out at 10:30am. Gemmae's Kare Kare was disappointing to me. I was served more fat than beef, so if you decide to order, let the server know that you prefer more beef. Kare Kare has peanut butter as part of the dish, but the peanut butter taste I'm used to was lacking. When I visit again, I want to try their sisig and dinuguan. I'm glad my best friend found the Gemmae Bake Shop Instagram post that featured their pastries and baked goods. Next time, we'll purchase more of their Pandan and Ube ensaymadas and their Longanisa pandesals. I'll pass on their Kare Kare.

Nonna Mercato holds a special place in our hearts. They are like members of the family at this…read morepoint because we are there every week reliably. At least a few times. Nonna has become our go to bakery, our sweet retreat, and one of our favorite local brunch spots. Now, they even have happy hour and, during the summer, dinner (Nonna Summer Nights)! And all of the food is amazing. Seriously, truly legit! We buy bread from there each week. No more "big box store" bread you freeze. They make their bread fresh daily. They only use fresh, locally sourced ingredients with no preservatives. It's nice to look at an ingredient list and not see a paragraph for bread (and be able to pronounce all the names!). And their cupcakes and sweets. Yo, seriously so good. And the thing is, because of the ingredients they use, we don't feel heavy or overly wired after eating cake or cupcakes from them. From other places you can tell they use preservatives, refined sugars, processed ingredients. But with Nonna, you can just taste the difference. We even had them make our special cake for our wedding! We recently tried their dinner (twice!) and it exceeded expectations. Now, mind you, all of their food has always been good but our experience was amazing. Their prix fixe menu was well put together, wine pairings on point, dessert was also delicious. Our favorite was the tiramisu! Also loved the spaghattini and casarecce pastas, and entrecôte di manzo, but everything was great. Their brunch is also great, you really can't go wrong on the menu. And I think we've gone through almost all of it! Finally, (if you've stayed with me this long!) the absolute best thing about Nonna for us is the TEAM. Hands down no question. The food is good, space is a comfortable neighborhood vibe, and all that. But truly the folks here are amazing humans. Always friendly, warm, and welcoming. If the management team is reading this, you all have a great group of people there! We will definitely be back (again and again and again) and you should too!

My qualm about Nonna's is this: Baked goods already purchased cannot be eaten at dining table. So with that said, you're eating Baked Eggs with 2 small slices of bread that is not enough...and they will not let you grab a piece of bread you just bought at their bakery to dip into the egg sauce. WTH is that logic???? Honestly, not cool. And their bread is HELLA EXPENSIVE. If I'm going to buy your expensive bread and pay to sit at your table, WHY CANT I EAT THE BREAD I JUST BOUGHT? Makes no sense!! So now I make my own Baked Eggs and my own bread. I can eat as much as I want. 4/5 for Baked Eggs 1/5 for their bakery policy
