So this is the Gen #2 .. I guess the extension. Pretty crazy cause theres only 2 servers for the whole building so they're pretty much just running around like chickens doing the best they can. The brisket is really thick and not the best, but the original beef belly is really good. They have different flavors of beef belly, but original is the best. They have a variety of things from cooked spicy ribs, to bulgogi fries.. the fries were ok, nothing special, the ribs were good but really huuuuge. It was 7p on a Tuesday and seems like they ran out of stuff and closed down, didnt let anyone enter after. We got seated fairly fast at least but could use some improvements!

What a night! I have been going to different Gen houses and none of them disappoint. Today, we got on the waitlist via Yelp. It seems like there was a glitch and after waiting for half an hour we noticed we never got on their Gen waitlist but only in Help. They genuinely tried to help us and Vanessa ensured we were well taken care off. We got in and enjoyed the delicious bbq. Thank you Vanessa & Team!

Love coming to GEN ! All the meats are delicious and waiters are nice :) They have a great selection of music ambiance.

    the cucumber kimchi he spilled

LOUIS ignored my table for the longest time, forgot our drinks, rice, radish paper, and my kimchi. he dropped food on my friend then walked away he didn't clean up the bowl on the floor. At first i tried to resonate with him but it just got worse. our table wasn't even set up when we got there and we had a reservation. We sent someone to go get him after he disappeared and then they disappeared to, the manager was cool and was the ONLY person to apologize. In all bad experience this time around but good food

What at great place to enjoy and celebrate with love ones cooking our own meats make this a unique experience We were sat within the next 5minutes upon arrival surprisingly cause this places is always super busy the music playing was pumping but not too loud just perfect to have a conversation but still is the vibe. Everyone is so friendly and accommodating the transition between lunch and dinner highly recommended to go for the premium menu we had the most tender skirt steak and premium wagyu amazing flavors accompanied with those great sauce just perfect. Mark was very helpful with all of our needs thanks Mark ! Big shout out to Mario manager to stop by and check on us! We definitely coming back soon!!!

    Do Not Come Here!!!!

I made a reservation through the Yelp app for the Gen Korean BBQ location at **19110 Gridley Rd**. When I arrived, the front desk staff told me I was at the *wrong* location and that I needed to go to the other Gen location at **11472 South St**. They explained that this Gridley location was only for people who had already waited 45+ minutes at the other location. No big deal--we walked over to the South St location. Once there, the hostess told us that they **do not take reservations through Yelp at all**. I then asked what the current wait time was since my party was physically there. She responded by repeatedly saying they only take reservations for parties of **10+ or in person**--which was confusing, because we *were* there in person. When I asked again about the wait time, she simply repeated the same statement without answering the question. At this point, it was clear that someone wasn't being truthful or properly trained, because we were given completely different information at both locations. I love Korean BBQ, but the lack of clear communication and the runaround we experienced made this visit extremely frustrating. Unfortunately, that's why I'm leaving a 1-star review.

Celebrated my husband's Bday at this restaurant last night. We pick the premium per recommendation but we were disappointed Rib eye and Beef tongue are not available we were not told ahead of time the meats were already serve. I do not think that premium should be offered when 2 items in the premium is not available. The rib eye was replace by skirt steak. Disappointing customer

I'd never been there before, so this review is all about first impressions. As we approached, the sign caught my attention: "Under New Ownership." Outside, an employee sat scrolling on his phone. It was a quiet Sunday around 3 PM, and we were the only patrons in sight. Checking Yelp beforehand had been a bit of a letdown, as their menu featured items they no longer offer. No links were available either. We ordered half a pound of pulled pork, half a pound of brisket, and four pieces of cornbread--all priced reasonably. Their tap selection turned out to be decent. The Cali Squeeze Blood Orange was a standout, and they also seemed to carry Firestone Walker products, including 805. The staff were friendly and responsive, which was refreshing. While the brisket had cooled by the time we got home, it was still tender and flavorful--just like the pulled pork. The real surprise? The chimichurri that accompanied the brisket--an unexpected and delightful touch. Overall, I'd rate the experience as average. While it's clear they've got potential, a bit more effort could turn Wholly Smokes into a go-to spot. Leaning in on those small details would really elevate the experience.

I've been avoiding coming to this place since last year when I've read a lot of bad Yelp reviews…read moreabout it - but thought we should give it chance on a less-busy middle-of-the-weekday and arrived about 5pm. It wasn't busy at all - which I was thankful, because in general, if a restaurant is busy, that usually means we don't get good service - SO I was very happy the server came and seated us right away. Our order was taken promptly and was stoked that they had an open bar for sides (buffet-style) to serve myself immediately for the salads, kimchi, sesame oil, seasoning, rice-paper (wolnamssam-yong), radish wrap (Ssam-mu), etc. - because in my experience with other KBBQ restaurants, the servers NEVER come fast enough to refill those sides for you, so I'm super relieved about this place for allowing us full control of that - without my feeling like I have to keep waving down a server. I was also excited to see additional sides offered as part of this very reasonably-priced All-You-Can-Eat! I had Miso-soup, even got Korean Seaweed Roll, Fried-Rice, fruits - Pineapple chunks, Orange slices, Jello (my fave)! They also had Mac-salad, Potato salad, also offered cooked fried chicken, baby clams, crawfish, fried wontons, edamame, eomuk (Korean fish cakes), Japchae (Korean Glass Noodle), etc. Plenty of sides also offered self-serve that you can cook on the grill, like onions, broccoli, mushrooms, etc. I was impressed with their choices at this price point! SO, my recommendation is - give this place a chance - sometimes restaurants do have bad days (as do servers and employees) which can get them a bad Yelp review). Today I appreciated that the servers were helpful and attentive. I LOVED the food: We ordered the Beef Brisket, Marinated Beef Bulgogi, Beef Belly, Pork Belly, Marinated Pork Belly - and yes, ALL included at the same price point (we went for the cheapest menu option) at $24.99 per person - so much value for that low price! Now I'm afraid to post this review because want this place for myself to be my own secret (LOL) - I loved the fact it wasn't crowded for such a huge venue - and we got served right away +++++!

Food: 3/5 Service: 2/5…read moreAmbiance: 3/5 Parking: 3/5 Family friendly: 3/5 Stroller friendly: 4/5 ADA accessible: 4/5 What could improve? Let's start with the good-ish part. Parking was decent on a Wednesday night around 7pm without any lines and we were seated quickly. That's when things weren't as copacetic. Initially we were sat on one burner for 6 people and was exceptionally tight. We asked to split our party to get another burner and was grated with attitude from the make server with a tattoo on his right arm. We asked multiple times to restart our burner because the pilot light kept turning off. According to the waiter, we didn't have enough venting on our grill because of the meat. Second and third time the pilot turned itself off we have to track down a different waiter to restart the light. Service is poor, especially from make server with Polynesian tribal tattoo on right arm. If you don't want to be at work, don't come to work. Next, the buffet line. Great concept: get your own sides. Nothing is labeled, albeit kimchi, fried rice were obvious, but others less so. When we finished the bill came with 18% gratuity included. With this 18% gratuity, I had to track down the waiters/ waitress 3 times to restart our burner, get the you're not worth my time attitude for it. I wanted to like Mr. Lees but with the decent food and subpar service is hard for me to do. I think the saving grace here was my God son pick this place for his graduation dinner. Check it out if you're curious, but for me I'll pass the next time Mr. Lee's pops up in my radar.
