A few pointers: it gets really hot inside, you will smell like bbq smoke when you leave, and depending on the time they will make you walk to the other location. We came here recently to celebrate Father's Day. We onky waited less than 5 mins for a table. We waited for a very long time before the server came to take our orders. The poor guy had too many tables to serve. It took a very long time before we got our orders and water. The side dishes were not good especially the kimchi. It didn't look fresh. We asked for a pair of scissor to cut the pork belly and they said they have none. How about one knife...none either.....how about plastic knife?....nope. The table next us told us to ask the manager and that was how we got one. The beef brisket was not edible at all. We cannot even chew it. The food here really gone down the hill. Staff are definitely more unfriendly on this side. Gone 3 times now and same experience each time. The last time I went my tables lights were out and the grill caught on fire twice, the 1st was extremely bad and had to leave our seats because of the smoke and fire and staff threw a towel over it, which caught on fire too. On top of that the drinks were out and the server barely stopped at our table. No discount for almost burning my eyebrows off either so DEFINITELY DO NOT recommend. So this is the Gen #2 .. I guess the extension. Pretty crazy cause theres only 2 servers for the whole building so they're pretty much just running around like chickens doing the best they can. The brisket is really thick and not the best, but the original beef belly is really good. They have different flavors of beef belly, but original is the best. They have a variety of things from cooked spicy ribs, to bulgogi fries.. the fries were ok, nothing special, the ribs were good but really huuuuge. It was 7p on a Tuesday and seems like they ran out of stuff and closed down, didnt let anyone enter after. We got seated fairly fast at least but could use some improvements! read more

It seems like there was a glitch and after waiting for half an hour we noticed we never got on their Gen waitlist but only in Help. Worst experience ever -- where do I even start? From the moment we arrived, the experience was disappointing. The air conditioning wasn't working, making it extremely uncomfortable, and to make things worse, our food took forever to arrive. When we tried to get help, the attitude from the staff made the situation even more frustrating. The biggest issue came when we received the bill. My daughter is 10 years old, and the menu clearly stated that children ages 5-10 are charged half price during the 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM hours. However, they still charged her full price and the manager insisted the menu information was wrong. This felt like a complete bait-and-switch situation. Between the poor service, uncomfortable conditions, long wait times, and being charged incorrectly, this was one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. This place has gone downhill over the years. The food is still pretty good and I would say good quality, but the service is just absolutely terrible. We had to wait a really long time to get our re-orders of beef brisket. It seemed like the waiters were just too busy for everybody. Visit was on 5/29. I've always loved the food here, but what really set this visit apart was the exceptional customer service. The manager personally came to our table to make sure everything was going well and that we were enjoying our meal. That level of attention and care is so hard to find nowadays and was truly appreciated. The food was delicious as always, but the outstanding service made the experience even better. I don't usually leave reviews to bring down a score, but Gen in Cerritos is far beyond sanitary for dining. I stopped by the main hub, as I was told I had to check in on the main side before dining on their "overflow dining" area. I asked to use the restroom, at which 2 employees were using the restroom with their aprons on, literally tucked to the side of the urinals. 1 of the employees just "rinsed" their hands with no hand-soap and then ran the excess water through his hair before opening the door to return to table side service. As I tried to catch up to get a name, another associate (female) was on the side of the bar by the column, on her phone with gloves on, another health code violation. When I was checking out at the "overflow dining" side, Marco (server) walked into the restroom, pushed his waist apron to the side and began using the urinal. I asked if that was hygienic, he rolled his eyes and walked out without washing his hands. He was bussing the table across from my party and he resumed his shift as if he never used the restroom. I wonder if this restaurant requires CA ServSafes as majority of their FOH staff was in violation of food handling and safety protocols. I will not be returning and highly recommend you all keep a close eye on your staff as they don't even know how to handle side dishes without dipping their fingers in the plates. Enjoy! read more

I love Gen's and we always go to the one in Torrance, the service there was fast and they serve everything quick. Until we went to this location in Cerritos. They have 2 locations, walking distance from each other. We went to the first location and got redirected to the 2nd one, no consideration of us having a baby.. Got seated and it took them a long ASS time to get our orders and they made us felt like you have to BEG for them to give your meats and side. I understand it was a Sunday but damn I work all week and wanna reward myself for something I love to eat and they fucked up mine and my family's time, it's not a lot of money yes.. but get your service right or close your shit down. read more

I made a reservation through the Yelp app for the Gen Korean BBQ location at **19110 Gridley Rd**. When I arrived, the front desk staff told me I was at the *wrong* location and that I needed to go to the other Gen location at **11472 South St**. They explained that this Gridley location was only for people who had already waited 45+ minutes at the other location. No big deal--we walked over to the South St location. Once there, the hostess told us that they **do not take reservations through Yelp at all**. I then asked what the current wait time was since my party was physically there. She responded by repeatedly saying they only take reservations for parties of **10+ or in person**--which was confusing, because we *were* there in person. When I asked again about the wait time, she simply repeated the same statement without answering the question. At this point, it was clear that someone wasn't being truthful or properly trained, because we were given completely different information at both locations. I love Korean BBQ, but the lack of clear communication and the runaround we experienced made this visit extremely frustrating. Unfortunately, that's why I'm leaving a 1-star review. read more

You actually order off of the menu, cook your own meat on the grill, and the selection is huge. Not only are there various meat options, but in addition to your standard Korean banchan side dishes you can order soup/stews, other main dishes and also desserts. All included. We did try an add on ice cream macaron which was delicious as well. I've frequented many Korean restaurants and the quality is in line with a traditional restaurant except you are not paying the premium for each individual dish. Let me point out the good thing about this place. Waiters are working their butt off from table to table. The meat quality was good. Everytime we order MEAT, it came in a good time. The reason why I gave this place 2 stars, they are overly booked with little staff. They have another Gen that's in the same plaza. We were in the que for 1 hr. When we checked in after receiving a text that our table is ready, we go to the front of the main Gen, and they tell you which Gen to go to. We've placed our orders including appetizers in the beginning. As I mentioned earlier, the meats came in a timely manner. Unlike the appetizers, I've requested 4x with 3 different people and had to repeat what we ordered each time. We only recieved 2 items from the 6. We were so fed up for waiting (more than 2 hours), there was no point of asking. When the check came in, I was upset and was told that there was only 1 person working in the back and they have back orders. Either A, cut the price and say, ALL YOU CAN MEAT ONLY or B, hire more staff to help in the back and C, don't advertise what's in the menu when you can't even fulfilled what is requested. I feel bad for the servers having to deal with the complaints from other guest. It's not their fault, it's management! Listen to your employees and give them a raise for having to run the floors. I really wanted to like this place, but the service completely ruined the experience. Our waiter was juggling about eight tables at once, and it showed -- he kept forgetting things, never brought a single refill, and it took forever just to get basic requests acknowledged. I tried ordering a couple of their specialty drinks, and after waiting ages, he finally came back at the end just to say they didn't have them. I also wanted to buy one of the beef jerky bags they advertise. He told me this location didn't carry them and that only the main location did. After eating, I walked to the main location... and they didn't have it either. So that excuse wasn't even true. There's a lot of hype around this place, but honestly, there are way better Korean BBQ spots out there with much better service. Maybe the main location is different and I should've waited, but I'd avoid this one unless you're okay with mediocre service and long waits. read more

The manager Jonathan was disrespectful, telling us to wait outside that other people need to be standing where we were, when we had just went in to see if there was an update on the wait, mind you we were off in the corner. He was on his phone more than half the time and honestly looked completely lost the other half. The waiter didn't show up until it was brought up to the hostess attention that no one had checked on us. When he finally did show up he rarely followed up and checked in on us. The only positive out this was the runner Carlos, showed great professionallism and excellent customer service even asking if he could improve the experience in anyway.
