Not sure what happened to this place. We used to come here a lot and the food was always delicious, service was quite alright. Now, the whole restaurant was filled with smoke from the grill - never happened before. The servers are terrible (sweet nice people but grossly incompetent). The cocktails were way too sweet - turned out no bar tender on staff. Dynamite shrimp appetizer came out without any dynamite sauce. And last but not least - the bowls came out burnt, bitter and plain inedible. The grill had obviously not been properly cleaned. read more

Update****it's back to crappy service, disjointed managing and the distinct feeling that you've been forgotten. We come here about once every three to four months just to see if they've fixed the problem. The hilarious thing is that each time we come it's a brand new process: You get the bowl up front. Nope, you get it from the server. Nope, now you get it from another server who is up front. You don't need a name card for your order. Wait...now they give you one at the table you fill out. Wait again....now the server has them and only they can fill them out. Can I get cheese for the tortillas? Yes. Then no. Then maybe. Last visit said no. See what I mean? If you are changing food and processes every three months, no one will come here, which is pretty evident. They took away shrimp for like three years. They said there was a shortage (eye roll). Now scallops are gone. They had no eggs because of a egg shortage which, for the life of me, I can't find anywhere. I give up. Do like we did and just go elsewhere. I know I know. I said I'd never come back here but when you're craving Genghis and you don't want to drive all the way to Plano you come here. I have to tell you guys things are looking great at the McKinney location they got new management and new servers and new cooks. We were seated promptly and our drink orders were taken and the process in which you make your bowl was pretty much the same as the Plano location that we frequent. I was also happy to see that not only was shrimp back on the line but so was eggs. Our service was top-notch from Erin. We casually mentioned that we hadn't been back in a long time due to them doing away with several great items like cheese and butter for the tortillas and she went all the way in the back of the store and scrounged up both of those things for us just out of pure niceness. We found the bowls cooked much better this time instead of being burnt they were cooked perfectly so that the seafood wasn't rubbery. Portion sizes were ample and we were checked on quite a bit. How long this lasts I don't know but as long as it does I will frequent this location again and I will highly recommend it to others read more

The sign said Lo mein noodles, but in reality they were thicker like Udon noodles, a little disappointing. Wish I knew that I could have gotten cabbage instead of noodles. Needed another ramekin of sauce. My vegetables were crunchy and had great flavor with the Dragon sauce. Happy I put pineapples in my mix, it added juice & sweetness. C: Food was properly cooked. Vegetables had the perfect amount of crunch. Needed another ramekin of sauce. Overall, the concept is cool. I would attempt another location due to service. This was our first trip to any Genghis Grill. We weren't sure what to expect. The way things were explained (or not explained) left us to figure things out for ourselves. Thank goodness for signs or we would have been lost! It's a do-it yourself type of experience. It's pretty neat they allow a tasting station for the sauces, love that concept. When asking the cooks questions about the "2 sides" we got smart answers in return, along with unexplained items/sides/ingredients not listed. The bowl sizes have also changed, they are much smaller now. The old kids bowl is now their regular sized bowl. Wife had what seemed to be spoiled veggies. First time we've been to this location and we waited to be seated. We were given our drinks then sat at the table for another ten minutes. Nobody wore masks. The server told us twice she was going to help us then walked away and she stroked my husbands back while she walked across. The only person wearing a mask was the bartender. Do not go here- horrible service and health standards. Before us- a whole table walked because this location didn't have margaritas and they have only been open two hours. The best Mongolian style food around. They have plenty of fresh ingredients to choose from and it is always made the way you want. Genghis is always striving for good service as well. There have been some staff in the past who didn't seem to really care about you or the restaurant, but Dani the new manager and her staff have changed all of that. And they have a new way of preparing the food so your bowl comes out to you much faster!! However, there are some issues with the store itself. Some of the tables have become uneven and there is a TV hanging on the wall that has a very bad picture. One of the worst issues is when the sun sets around dinner time. There is a sun shade over one of the windows, but one of them is broken and has been for some time. Some of the booths need to recovered as well. If they fixed these things I would have given it 5 stars. read more

I went to this McKinney location with my daughter and son-in-law for lunch, and we each chose the medium bowl. My daughter and I, being calamari fans, both chose calamari as part of our bowl. When Our food was cooked and served to our table, I took several bites of my bowl and the taste was fine; however, after several bites, I bit into a piece of calamari that must have been spoiled, as the taste was extremely offensive. I immediately told my daughter and we both started picking out the calamari pieces from our bowls and put them onto a napkin so that we wouldn't run into any more "bad" pieces. About an hour later, upon returning home, I became ill and experienced mild symptoms of food poisoning. I called the manager on duty that afternoon and he didn't seem very concerned. Perhaps the new calamari is being poured on top of old calamari, or the temperature of the calamari is not being kept cold enough, but this certainly warrants having someone from a corporate level look into the matter and ensure that these are not contributing factors. I am very unhappy with the lack of concern by the manager on duty, and am hesitant to try this location again unless I can be sure that these problems are addressed. As a Realtor, I visit this location often with coworkers as well as family, and I am very disappointed to have experienced this issue. read more

This location is cleaner than the Plano location and you get the same great food and service you'd come to expect from a Genghis Grill. I will never be going to this place again. I literally was the first person in line to order my food and the host went to the white people an ask them what they would like. I understand your overwhelmed about your job but hospitality and customer service was very important part of your job as well. This place was a joke! Staff seemed confused as though it was their first day. My group was not acknowledged when we walked into the place(only 5 other people in the place), had to hunt down someone for ordering. Finally got an opportunity to order, No bowls available! Once the group made it to the food prep counter, they were short some of the meats, vegetables, spices and sauces. If you have ever been here, these things make up recipes so now we had to wing it! Once the cook got our trays for cooking, things seemed to move forward. But wait, they lost my ticket so they didn't know if I wanted rice or cabbage sixes with my meat mix. Only 5 people in the place already eating, but my waiter couldn't remember I wanted cabbage. Keep in mind the guy wrote it down before we started making our plates and they prepare a ticket. Food was delayed because of this misfortune with the ticket. Review of the food: had better tasting meals elsewhere! Our group of three will not be going back! For the poor amount of food and respective overpriced bill go elsewhere. I believe Wendy's was across the street. Better priced and more filling. Honestly can't wait to come back here. You pick the size of your bowl then add any and all ingredients you want! From meat to veggie down to the seasoning and sauce. Pass it down and they will cook it up. The only down fall I can see for some-- is if you seasone your meat wrong or too much too little sauce. I got an email for a free regular bowl... these reviews scared me a bit but I took the chance. Been a few years since I've been to Genghis... they offer 3 different size bowls. Small, regular, large. The waiter said I could upgrade to the large and only had to pay the difference... Score! (I wanted leftovers) Very disappointed in their protein selection... how do you not have any shrimp?!?! But you have a huge helping of FAKE CRAB. I understand shrimp has become very expensive recently... but if you can offer scallops... I think you can offer shrimp. Also chili paste wasn't offered along with the other sauce. I like combining chili sauce with the dragon to make it more spicy. The veggie selection was fine and appeared very plentiful when we came for dinner. The sweetened mango tea is very good overall I like their selection of flavored lemonades and teas. I'd come back probably but I still don't understand why they don't offer shrimp. read more

I haven't been to Genghis Grill in at least 4 years. The 2 locations that are closest to my house permanently closed , so we drove to the next closest location which was McKinney. There was 4 in our party. Two in our party ordered bowls that were on the menu and the other 2 ordered "create your own" bowls. We also ordered an appetizer. While we were in the line choosing our create your own bowls. A gentleman came in behind us in line selecting items for a to go order, somehow he managed to get all of his orders and leave and we were still sitting waiting on our food. We were there at the restaurant at least 10 minutes before him. Then they finally brought out the 2 create a bowls. Then the 3rd bowl came out and finally the last bowl about 5 minutes later. We had to wait to eat until the last bowl came out because we didn't want to be rude. We got our appetizer last and it was cold. Overall, service was slow and food was just OK. Mike was our server. He was not friendly. He never apologized for wait. He cut me off while I was trying to remind my husband about telling them not to add 2 items to a bowl. I don't like that they have unwrapped straws for drinks. I would rather get it myself if that's all the straws they have. The bathroom was nasty and stinky. We will not be back. read more

Haven't been to Genghis grill in at least 10 years. Service wasn't great and then they brought one of our bowls and it was burnt. It smelled burnt when they set it down but I tried it anyway and yup! It was burnt. My husband's bowl sat on the counter for at least 5 minutes. When they brought it to the table finally, it was missing 2 ingredients that he put in his bowl. When we brought it to the servers attention he asked if we just wanted him to throw it on top or cook it. We told them nevermind bc mine was burnt and we were just going to go somewhere else. They still charged us $3.00 for a coke that had a 1 sip drank out of it. NEVER AGAIN!! read more

My boys love coming here. First you select the size of your bowl. Then you pick your meat, sauce, seasoning, and vegetables. Now, they stir fry it right before you. I am medium on Genghis Grill. I never leave disappointed but I also don't leave excited that GG is the place I went to eat. The advantage is definitely that you get to pick exactly what you want in your bowl and how much of it. The disadvantage is that I am not a chef and certain things and mixtures that I think might go well together, don't go great together. This Genghis has GREATLY improved since our last visit. The store was generally clean and neat. The tables and seats were clean as far as we could tell. The servers were attentive and mostly personable. The only downside that we still notice is the overwhelming smell of the meat station. It has a strong odor of fish, but I assume this is because they offer more fish products than in the past. I like fish but I don't want to smell it throughout the restaurant. I have no solution for this so I don't "count off" for this in the review. The stations are well stocked and clean (we were the first customers of the day, so I would expect this). I understand why they offer to build your bowl for you, but I think it's silly except maybe for children or the elderly and then this should be a courtesy. I do like that there is more variety of starches with the different size bowls. Don't forget about the electronic device things on the tables with games, etc. that are great for keeping the kids (and adults) entertained while you wait for your bowl. We had Matt as our waiter. He's a young guy and he's mostly efficient and very attentive. Glad we got him as our server! We did a survey online after our previous visit voicing our issues with the last visit and we got a response email very quickly. We can also see the vast improvement since our last visit. This location need attention!! Nobody wear gloves or hairnet, you can see their fingers touching your food. Tables are not clean. I usually eat at other Genghis grill locations and they are all good except for this one. Unfortunately this is the closest one to my job. And if you sign up for their Kahn's club you get a free bowl on your birthday! ***For my bowl I usually put brown rice, shrimp, chicken, sausage, tofu, bell peppers, some tangerines, water chestnuts, carrots and a 2-3 eggs (I think that's it) and then flavor it with the teriyaki sauce. Waited 30 min for my food manager comes out tells me what's going on and I said my food has never got to me and asked and I just said forget about it. as soon I said that Food came.
