Extremely disappointed in my overall experience today. While my own food was fine, I was upset at the actions of the female manager(?) who was also cooking. There was only one server working during lunch, and he was on his game. He took care of all the tables, was pleasant to us, and was efficiently handling the high volume by himself. Sadly, he was often pulled away from his serving duties by the manager demanding that he charge people extra for their bowls just because they were filled up. I don't mean overflowing or using the little cups to add on. Just the bowl that they paid for. But, because in her apparently subjective opinion, they were "too big". Several times I heard her holler from the grill to "charge them for a side of rice!" Unless there was a policy change that I didn't see posted, I thought the deal was "if you can fit it in THIS bowl, you get it." Did you change that? Is it done by weight now? If so, it's clearly not posted well (because I looked when I left to see if I'd missed it). Her tone was rude and abrasive, and loud enough to be heard well into the tables area. I'm pretty sure I also heard her make derogatory comments about particular guests (I'm almost certain the words "f****** whale" were used; even if this were about an employee instead, that's entirely inappropriate!). This was behind closed doors, but obviously they aren't soundproof! Clearly, this poor server then had to deal with upset customers, which had nothing to do with anything he did. I oversaw him handle this situation professionally, assisting the customers to the fullest extent of his ability, since it was really out of his hands. Numerous people asked for a manager's or corporate number. I hope they use them! Even if that is a new policy, her attitude and communication with her "coworker" was entirely unprofessional and actually detracted from my experience. I hope other tables noticed what was happening and tipped him accordingly, as he was clearly doing a great job staying cool under fire, while clearly taking all the bullets for this so-called-manager, who was obviously unwilling to address these customer issues herself. Overall, we love this place and I really hope someone does some serious coaching/retraining with her.... Or finds a replacement. read more

HORRIBLE service. We waited an hour for our food only to be told our order was "stollen" and had to be re-prepared. We asked 3 employees how long it would be for our order to be ready and got extremely unprofessional and rude replies essentially boiling down to "I don't know". When finally getting our order after being there over an hour, we asked to speak to the manager about a refund to which we were told "the manager has left, I can't help you with a refund but you got your food". I have never had an experience being treated with such little professionalism and customer service. If this is how the employees treat their customers, this location should not be open. read more

I enjoy the concept and food,but quality is a little inconsistent. My kids love this place which is unusual,because the oldest is such a finicky eater. Everything almost always looks fresh and they offer a variety of meat,vegetables,fruits,seasonings,and sauces to accommodate just about any palette. Service is average ,just enough to keep you from complaining. Prices are good. On my last visit they were out of Stella Artois. I'm curious if the $2 bottle special had something to do with that? Still a great place to get a good tasting bowl of noddles or rice. read more

Anyone that says something negative about this place must be either extremely picky or high maintenance. I come here regularly and I have not ONE bad thing to say. Elvin is usually my waiter. Worst experience here dining in - not only did we not get our drinks until a half hour in, 45 min after that we got our bowls. One of our bowls' food was all burnt and our other bowl was made with the wrong sides. When I told our waitress, they took my bowl and starting picking out the food they were going to cook with the correct sides. Didn't offer another option for my husband. No one apologized. Plus our waitress went outside, smoked, came back inside with no sanitizing her hands. I noticed the bus boy using the same rag to wipe off the tables from ppl who had just left. Today, 09/30/2022, I had the worse experience I have ever had at this Genghis Grill. Usually the experience is pleasant but this afternoon the manager there was absolutely unprofessional. Before I came there, I was bragging to my brother and my neighbor's son about this Genghis Grill. I decided to bring them plus my son there for lunch. Our waitress was great but as we start getting our bowls together the manager (I don't know her name but she wears glasses) decided to approach us with an attitude. I didn't say anything back to her because I wasn't trying to be confrontational. I let it go and continue making my bowl. At this time there is no more shrimp left. My brother asked her did they have anymore shrimp. She then walked in the back and came back out told him they didn't have no more shrimp in the building. After my brother fixed his bowl and walked away there was a guy (white male) that was one person behind my brother that then asked her for shrimp. She got another worker to go to the back and bring out shrimp for him. Yes me and my family is black and yes there clearly was a difference in the way she talked to us and treated us. I am not the person that try try to bring race into a situation but even when another customer talks about how she treated us, it's a problem. I don't understand where the attitude came from and why would she lie to my brother and say they don't have shrimp in the building when she knew they did. For my brother and neighbor first time going, they had a bad experience and it honestly pissed me off because I get there all time. My husband and I came in here for dinner on a weekday and we were 1 of 3 tables in the restaurant. Our server was basically the only one working, besides the guy cooking, while four other employees just stood around. I dont like to see stuff stuff like this, there should be a manager running the floor. Anywho, that is the reason for the one star. Our waitress was great, she brought our drinks and bowls out quickly. I absolutely love the veggies and meats you can put in the bowls! The regular sized bowls are plwnty to get full off of and you can get two different types of protein. I like the cabbage and brown rice. I'm pretty pissed at the ordering system. Not only do I have to create an account to order online, but I have to pay online and half of anything I want to order isn't even served till after four (yet it's still an option on the menu ) and when it glitches and I call to place an order, they say they can't take an order over the phone! When you walk in, it takes 30+ min to be greeted and the customer service is shitty. My husband and I have tried to eat here 6 times now and only once successfully! Pretty good spot considering the sticky floors and undercooked steamed rice. Our waitress warned us that the steamed rice is cooked early in the day so by night it gets pretty hard. They did however give us noodles at no charge to make up for the rice. read more

I had the most surprising and amazing experience here. Thx to my bro! We have a similar concept in Cali that we LOVE, this was a whole other level. There are so many selections...it gets you both excited and frustrated - I just wanted to eat...it all, but couldn't decide where to start. Then, the quality of the finished product was unbelievable, creating a "party in my tummy" to quote my daughter. Finally, you could not ask for better service - I would give them six stars if I could. They were friendly and attentive to every need...we had 4 kids, one with food allergy considerations. And the Manager, an energetic young lady was the epitome of leadership by example. She was everywhere, doing small and large, to keep it moving smoothly...and it was! I was devastated that these are peppered across half the US...just not the Cali half. :-( read more

Went here with my mom today. I love Genghis grill but the experience wasn't where I wanted it to be. It took a while for our server to get over to us even though we could see him (and he could see us) talking to another employee for a bit. When he did come over, he was nice but once we got our drinks, he went back to talking to the other employee. It took a while to get refills too. But the food here, as always, was amazing. Fair warning to anyone who has never been to one of these places: too many options might kill your food. Don't try to front load it with too much protein. The food was ok but the service was slow. Also their new system where you fill out cards is confusing. It took about 10 minutes to get our food after giving to to the cooks. They burnt my sons food so he had to remake his bowl and they said they would put a rush on it, they didn't. All of these problems and they didn't even offer to comp any part of dinner. Food is the same at all the Genghis grills you will go to. I wouldn't write a review on a chain restaurant, but the was service at this one is really bad. I'm pretty sure that the manager doesn't care about the quality of service, because he was sitting behind the bar talking up a storm to our waitress while the host waited our table. Food was terrible!! Took forever and the quality was horrible. Two out of three of us got create your own bowl and despite not being busy at all it took 20 minutes to get our food. The third person ordered a pre-selected bowl off their menu and when it came looking nothing like what the menu said (missing ingredients) the waiter said "those are new and we don't know what we are doing". Absolutely "HORRIBLE" place! Took the misses here on a Sunday, and constantly complained about the burnt residue from the grill being on our food. We eventually were told by the manager that the grill usually gets cleaned on Monday's and that we just chose the wrong day to come. Genghis Grill is very good. Have not had a bad meal at the McKinney location. I tend to try the different combos from the cards. Enjoy their pot stickers. The only issue I have is the service is hit or miss. Sometimes its spot on - no waiting for food or refill of drinks. Than other times very slow. read more

Not the best service at this location. We were seated in an area and the server was no where to be found. The man who seated us took over for our MIA waitress. My wife asked the server to wipe down our table since there was still evidence of previous diners. The food was good- some meat selections were a little low, but nothing we normally pick. Food arrived with a reasonable amount of wait time. Our server checked on us once after receiving our food and then disappeared for around 10 minutes. We both had empty glasses and set them on the edge of the table. I finally resorted to asking another waiter for refills. When we asked for boxes, our waiter did not offer any dessert options and instead plopped our check on the table. Even with discounts or promotions I doubt we will return to this location- it was a disappointing stop on our date night. read more

I've never been to a Genghis grill before and was ready to leave within the first 2 minutes. This restaurant is banged up pretty bad, booth seats are ripped to where large areas of stuffing are showing, tables were dirty, wooden seats and tables were chipped and shabby. Decor consists of barren walls with signs advertising Genghis grill. I really wanted to leave when I saw how run down the place was, but we had a gift card. The server was friendly, and the food (teriyaki with pineapple) was ok. The place smelled of a commercial spray cleaner. I think it would have been a much better experience if the place wasn't so shabby looking. read more

My husband and I came to eat here after being disappointed and led astray by other Asian restaurants closing so early. We walked in a little apprehensive because it was the end of the night and they had started to close and put all the food away. The manager asked us if it was here or to go and we told him 4 here. He put a big smile on his face and said no problem, sit down. The waitress the cook and the rest of the staff were very gracious and did not rush us and we had a great meal. Okay. So the hubs and I tried this place for the first time today and lemme tell you, we were quite disappointed! The food overall was tasty, but the restaurant as a whole was dirty. The food is served in plastic bowls that are old and less than desirable. The tables and chairs were sticky and the wall decor covered in dust. The food prep area was unkempt and the little stainless bowls for the sauce were ALL encrusted with old sauce. Once we pointed this out however, all the bowls were taken back to the kitchen. The cooks were polite, but the floor around the grill was disgusting. There was plenty of food and sauce on the floor and was in desperate need of a good mopping. Sorry to say that we won't be back because the concept is a good one, but clearly lacking in execution at this location! read more
