Horrible, will not eat here again. They have messed up the two times and I ordered to go from here. The orders were wrong both times with items missing as well. This first time we sucked it up and ate whatever it was they made us, this second time we called to tell them they gave us the wrong order and told us they wanted us to bring the food back. One, it takes 30 minutes for the original order, two I just got off work and last thing I want is to drive back and forth for something so simple they can not get right. This place is GREAT! I went New Year's Eve for the first time ever and am hooked. I was greeted by Sally, perhaps the best waitress I've ever come into contact with. Not only was she super friendly, attentive and helpful but she's mastered the whole "being there without being there, yet being there when needed" thing most servers don't have a clue about. She explained about the little silver bowl, the recipes, the assembly process and choice of rices and noodles as well as the lunch price $8.99 or for $1.99 more unlimited (but with no to-go box option). As I had a coupon for 20% off I figured I'd start slow and mix n match so I could try a little of everything. All the meats were fully stocked with the exception of the marinated steak, which was out the two times I went up. The variety of meats and seafood were impressive: all natural chicken, steaks, marinated white fish, fish, calamari, shrimp/prawns, scallops, marinated steak, regular steak, etc etc. There are two whole areas dedicated to veggies which you will find anything from your basic green/red bell pepper mix to pico de gallo to Mandarin oranges to mushrooms to fresh tomatoes. They truly have it all. At the end you will pick your sauces. They have little sampling spoons so you can try the various sauces. You will get a separate little sauce cup. Just be sure not to throw your used spoon back into the new spoon container *which I saw three people do AFTER I tried the sauces- there's a little disposal can right by the cooks!* The cooks at the round grill will ask you if you want white, brown or fried rice or udon or spiral noodles and give you a number. I stayed up to watch mine cook as I hadn't seen it before.Your server will bring you your personal creation in about five minutes. I'm not sure about the complaints about the food being overcooked- as you can see from both my pictures everything was crisp and fresh just how it ought to be. We live close so we have tried ordering online a few times recently to see if that helps cut down on the wait time, but we still have had to wait about 15-20 minutes at the store. But despite the long wait, I really love the food here. It's all fresh and flavorful, and definitely worth trying if you aren't in a big rush. The service has always been really friendly. I initially wasn't a fan of the process of picking your food and shoving it in a bowl. But after a few visits I got the hang of it. Pack as much food as you can into the bowl! I didn't really understand that the first time and felt like I didn't quite get enough food for the price paid. But if you order online, they service it up for you and they are pretty generous on how much you get, if you want to avoid playing Tetris with your food. I thoroughly enjoy Mongolian Stir-Fry so I will always rate a restaurant well unless the food or establishment is poor. Having said that, the food was solid and the restaurant is clean with friendly staff. My only complaint is the only other time I had been to a Genghis Grill they had an all you could eat option and this place does not. I like the unlimited bowl deal because I like trying different sauce combinations so I wish this place had it because I saw some different sauces. One thing I did like was I got to load the bowl up with meat and vegetables and they add the rice or noodles when they cook it. More bang for your buck! read more

Poor service and food quality. Put together online orders a couple of times, every entree was wrong on every order. I ordered chicken, steak and broccoli for my bowl, and it had one piece of broccoli and three pieces of steak. For a $15 entree. Burnt onions, poorly cut meats, and tortillas that smelled like BO. Really bad BO. It actually looked like they just threw a bunch of ingredients on the grill and scooped them off at random into containers for my orders. Seeing Genghis in San Antonio took me down memory lane! This was my most frequented restaurant in Vegas and while some things were different, a few key features were nonetheless the same. Genghis is normally a great option for times that you want a relatively quick bite of hot freshly prepared food in a casual atmosphere. The ordering process is relatively standard and it roughly goes as follows: First off, when you're seated you're brought their very simple menu of a few appetizers and drinks to choose from. Unlike the vegas location, they do not have self service on the drinks. I tried their strawberry lemonade which had free refills and quite enjoyed it! From the appetizer, the garlic edamame did not disappoint! Then you're presented with three bowl sizes - a small medium or large. I had an enormous appetite when I went and since I know myself to get a lot of veggies which take up room, I opted for the large size with my husband. Then you get up to the food line to make your selection. There are truly A LOT of options to choose from. Don't think that your have room by the time you get to the end. As someone who does not eat traditional meat, pescatarian, I had PLENTY of options - a huge selection of veggies (making this an AWESOME place for vegans and vegetarians as well), fish options which included my favorite, calamari. Unfortunately no scallops were available. If you want shrimp, simply let the guys know at the end and they'll add some to your portion. Then you select your sauce Or as in my case, cocktail or sauces. Finally you head to the final stage where you give your bowl and elect a base for your food. Hubby got whit rice and I got the udon noodles. Because every dish is so highly customizable, the bowls typically taste quite different. Both were delicious, with hubby Rating his a 5*, and mine being a 3.5-4* only because my udon noodles did not seem very fresh. The service was above average with my drinks being refilled very frequently and mostly without wait in between. The food however, this time around took about 30 + minutes to prepare. I've been to this location twice in April and May of 2018, and I really want to give this place 4 stars, however, while the service was very decent (and the servers remarkably polite), the food hasn't been the quickest to come out and it's a hit or miss proposition on what time of day you go. The food line needs to be a bit more cleaner (and more stocked) and the restrooms sometimes lack paper towels. This location doesn't have the same "je ne sais quoi" feel that the location at Huebner Oaks had before it closed, but it's a decent place to get food. I recommend going sometime around 3-4 PM as it's not that busy (and the food is a bit less expensive due to the special). read more

Walked in and said I had placed an order online, everything was smooth from their...front staff was able to assure everything was going to taken of... about five mins, turned out to be 11 but hey that better than 30 + plus. Now the cooks can't get it right. Told them I wanted double steamed rice, the paperwork showed double steam rice. What came out was one steamed rice and one noodle. No sense in making a new bowl and waiting for them to cook it up. No way of knowing what the cook would do to that order. He may add how own special ingredients. Genghis Khan would have thrown down Mid-Asia style if he knew that this restaurant was using his likeness. Today was my 6th & final time to ever visit the "GG". Let me start by saying when they first opened their doors about a year ago, it was pretty decent Mongolian BBQ. The vegetable ingredients were fresh & the meats looked well-trimmed and appetizing. The price was very competitive & the atmosphere was enjoyable. But, since then..... Every-time I have gone to the GG, it has gotten progressively worse.....and more expensive. I thought something must be wrong, maybe I was going on the wrong day or something, but I have come to realize that this place does NOT deserve my $$$ or patronage anymore. It was insulting enough when, each time I would go back, they had added $1.00 to the price of a lunch bowl, but the quality of the food has declined faster than the Mongol Empire put the smack down on the Jin Dynasty! All Asian-Warlord kidding aside, this place is terrible now. Today the meats were barely stocked and if they weren't frozen (no kidding, like just out of the freezer) they had the "No way I am eating that" look to them. The vegetables were either entirely empty or had very little left and the line looked like a pack of wild Mongols had used food instead of weapons to vanquish their opponents. At the end of the line, there was the manager of the store, cooking food with 3 other cooks. Ok, I know, cut the guy some slack, he's helping right? Wrong! Your job as manager is to coordinate efforts so that the restaurant runs properly. In my opinion (and where my opinion goes, so do my dollars), if you are in charge of making sure the place runs, then you need to be making sure EVERYTHING is running, not just the stove. Utterly disappointing visit to the GG and I have given this place more than the allotted number of attempts at getting it right again. At first, I was enchanted by this Genghis. However, now after my last couple visits when in SA seeing my folks, the magic easy healthy dining has lost some appeal. This Genghis is standard. Recently, company wide they changed the whole bowl concept and did away with buying a large one and receiving unlimited trips to get more food. Now, it's small/medium/large bowl sizes with only one trip allotted. The line of food doesn't look exceptionally clean anymore like it used to. The veggies do not appear to be fresh; actually, while going through the line an employee came and put a frozen bag of beans in one of the containers. I had never tried Mongolian BBQ before this, and now I am seriously kicking myself for waiting so long. I used to wait tables, so I really appreciate great customer service. Genghis Grill surpassed my high expectations with flying colors. From the prompt and very friendly greeting by the hostess, to the manager seating us and our waiter having our drinks waiting for us when we got back to the table. He also was attentive without being bothersome (a trait that many wait staff seem to have a problem mastering). The bowls do seem small, but as Joe J. noted, you can really pile them pretty high. The selection of proteins, veggies and starches was extensive and I loved the variety of sauces and spices available to add to your dish. We had our bowls ready within ten minutes and it was tasty. It's not flashy, fancy or upscale, but for the price, quantity and service, this location gets 5 shiny stars. read more

Our experience was awful for a couple of reasons. I visited with my wife, son and daughter. My wife found a hair in my daughter's bowl, and set that bite to the side, asking my daughter to continue eating. However, once she found another, she notified the server. The manager came over and apologized and cooked her a new bowl, which was nice. However, the part that stung the most was when the waitress gave us the check and told us, "We've given you a military discount on your daughter's bowl." I believe that my daughter's $5.99 bowl should have been removed from the bill completely. Second, why would you give a military discount to someone as a response to messing up their dinner? A military discount is for those who serve their country, period. If you don't remove the item from the bill, just say you've discounted the check, not given a discount reserved for those who fight for our freedom. As a side note, I am also in the military. I wasn't asked if I served by my waitress, unlike the people at the tables around us. Our "military" discount would have been applied to our bill, hair in my daughter's bowl or not. read more

Have been to several Genghis Grills before and have always had an exceptional experience. Very disappointed in this visit... It took several minutes for them to acknowledge that we were here and seat us, only a few recipe cards were available, many of the meats listed were not available, a girl was taking all the veggies away before we got to them and it seemed like the chefs were rushing us along. Also, the bathrooms were disgusting, they have not been cleaned in some time. I was very disappointed in this location and do not plan to return. read more

While GG has a nice variety of the typical Mongolian BBQ fixings, they couldn't offset the price with additional broccoli florets or maybe the squid/shrimp. You're limited to a small serving sizing which the automatically fill with standard oriental carbs (rices, noddles, etc) which limits the amount of meat and veggies that you get. Then to follow it up, if you want seconds. You're going to pay additional $2 / bowl. read more

Went in for dinner last night... I'll start from the beginning. We were greeted and told to sit down at the table behind the host stand. It had stuff spilled on it and one of the seats, so we sat at the one next to it. Our server greeted us and took our drink and food orders. My 8 year old did not want to build a bowl like us adults- his only other option was mac & cheese so that's what we ordered for him. For the ingredient bar to fill your bowls, you have to put gloves on before doing so. The meats were running low, chicken was almost gone, it was near impossible to reach the ingredients in the back row so I found myself twisting into some strange positions to get some steak in my bowl. Then to the vegetables... the broccoli was empty, I had to stand there and wait for someone to walk by to ask a guy to refill the broccoli. You then get your cups of sauce, what a sticky mess. The whole ingredient bar was filthy. Nobody was even attempting to walk by and tidy it up or clean it. There was food scattered everywhere. The tongs were sticky and dirty, the glass covering the top was fingerprinted and gross. Then you set your bowl on the counter by the guy who is grilling and he tells you they'll bring it to the table when it's done. Mind you, he's not wearing a mask, nor are any of the other employees working in the back around the food wearing masks. The COVID precautions in this place are obviously not taken seriously. Then after all of that, we go sit back down and our drinks are not even on the table yet. A completely different server comes over and asks if we have been helped and asked for our drink orders again. I reminded this server that my son ordered Mac & cheese and not a bowl. She said she thinks she saw the ticket for it so we should be good. We waited for our bowls for what seemed like FOREVER. Probably a solid 20-30 mins. Side note, the place is not full. But there were several people coming in to get their bowls for take out- I think that slowed the process up. We finally got our bowls but my son's Mac & cheese was still nowhere to be found. The server mentions it to the other server and she calls out to one of the girls walking to the kitchen "throw it in the microwave!" Oh man, it was comical at this point. Then the Mac & cheese came out and it was cold and dry and so much less than cheesy. We asked them to "throw it back in the microwave a little longer". Our food came out and was hot but nothing spectacular. Then you get the bill and it's just like wow. I don't mind paying the money if the experience is worth it but I was so super disappointed in this place. Maybe it's my own fault for having high hopes regardless of the 2.5 star review. My mistake! I won't be choosing the dinner places anytime soon and we won't be going back to Genghis Grill for sure. I hope I don't have COVID after eating here. Absolutely no excuse to why I just received the most horrific experience ever at the 151 location. (Not exaggerated) But literally waited 55 mins for my daughter( 3yrs) and I's meal. Voiced to my concerns 40 mins into waiting and still waited the 15 to receive as they now "rushed it". John (person in charge) came to our table and was in no way apologetic. Didn't care . I voiced I wasn't even hungry because of how upset i was so he grabbed my bowl that I had waited the 55 mins for and walked straight to the back and threw it and got on his phone. For a Saturday night there was 10 or less ppl there eating and more then enough staffing. I do expect a call back about this issue from the GM as this was completely unacceptable service. read more

To begin with when we first showed up we saw that the waitress gave a table the wrong bowl and let them pick at it to see the ingredients, after realizing it wasn't theirs she put it back were she got it and got the right bowl, then she went to the bowl she messed up and gave it to the right table even though it was already picked at by other people! The restaurant was basically empty when we showed up and they told us it was going to be a 15 minute wait. we ended up waiting 30 minutes. When they finally sat us, it was at a table that was empty the entire time. Then when we were getting our food she gave one of our bowls to the wrong table and the table was already telling her that it wasn't theirs but the waitress let them touch it and pick at it anyways. read more

The floors, the counters, everything. The raw food needs a better means of being handled. Some of my co-workers have a favorite concoction of random things they like to mix together. My anal retentive tendencies lead me to follow the little recipe cards. I want to play it safe! As others say, you have only yourself to blame. All of the food looks quite fresh and everything is very nicely laid out. You go through the line and build your meal. Staff then takes your bowl-o-stuff and asks, "Do you want an egg?" because we all know that we don't already have enough calories in that bowl. "Sure, why not?" everyone says. Looking at the starches, only in San Antonio can one go to a Mongolian BBQ place and choose tortillas. Yeah, that's right! Okay, so the food comes back fresh, piping hot, and tasty. Both meals were actually quite good. Beverages: no hot tea. Repeat: no hot tea. What the ___? Okay, so bring me some mango tea. Overall: mixed experience. Food is good. Service is so-so. TL;DR- good food, worst service ever! Tonight I experienced the worst service I have ever received and I am not hard to please. When my fiance and I first walked in we were told to pick any seat we wanted in the front two sections. This was easy to do because there was only ONE clean table. The waitress took our drink order and got us our bowls. Halfway through the bowl prep line we see people with bowls that looked larger than ours (we ordered large) and asked an employee behind the counter if ours were correct. He said we had the medium ones. We told him we were supposed to have large and he walked away. We thought he was going to get the correct bowls so we stepped back as to not hold up the line, but he never returned. We had to ask another employee and he said we DID have the large bowls...great. so now we're at the back of the line and this will delay our food. Okay, no big deal. We get back to the table and still no drinks after 15 minutes. The place wasn't even half full so we were confused. Finally the drinks come. I tried to get the waitress' attention for straws but she never walked by again so I went back to the drink station and got my own. My fork was dirty with white streaks down it, but luckily I use chopsticks so I grabbed my own pair of those as well. My food comes and it looks good. I wait for my fiance's to come but it takes a while. The waitress then delivers his to the wrong table and starts walking away when the other patron notifies her of the error. Our food was good. No complaints there. After his food was delivered our waitress never came back. Drinks went dry. We finished our food and were waiting for our check, but our waitress never came. There was only one other waitress but we could not seem to get her attention. After another 15 minutes of waiting to pay I finally got up and stood next to the server's register area. Both servers still walked past me twice each and didn't even look at me. I finally pulled my credit card out and one of them came to get me my check. Horrible service. read more

I love this franchise. I am a road warrior. I look for places I like to eat and Genghis Grill is always a priority. While driving into San Antonio I scoped out locations close to my hotel. This location was the closest. I was amused by the strong and unapologetic comments of a Ms Kelsey who said the front of the place and bar smelled like beer and throw up. Lol. She is 100% right. In fact, I felt compelled to send her an "at a girl" message thanking her for the specific and undeniable accuracy of her review. As others have said, "the service sucks!" I didn't believe that as most people today are offended by anything. But I WAS WRONG like a DING DONG !!! There was no service or acknowledgment within 10 minutes of my visit so I left this puke smelling joint. Who manages this place and who manages the manger? As soon as we walked in there were leaves everywhere as well as trash. The hostess wasn't friendly at all. We sat down, the seats were dirty, tables were sticky, and trash on the floor. I guess all of them are going to be in the same category as not attractive open raw food buffets that need better UV/bug sterilization lights around their products. It seems like no matter what variety I try, it always comes out the same...great! The Hu Hot on I-10 near DeZavala is far better than GG without a doubt. Better selections, unlimited bowls=unlimited attempts at new creations, far more sauces to choose from, you can fill 2 bowls at once, etc. Genghis is still a great choice and the smells and colors of the interior design awakens your senses and gets you salivating, but I feel limited by the one trip allowed, the small bowl they give you, and he tiny cannisters of meats and veggies to choose from (as opposed to the massive bins provided by Hu Hot. read more

The bacon is a nice touch that I don't remember seeing before and it's awesome to have them assisting you through the line when picking out meats, veggies, and starches. The bowl itself was the best I've had at any of the several locations I've been to (both here and in Houston). The problem arises with the serving; after seating us they hardly came back by. The restaurant filled up over the course of the hour we were there, but I had to get up and go to the bar and get my own drink. The bartender did come out and try to help near the end. Also the bar area had a dirty water smell to it, which was luckily only over there, and it's the first part of the place you walk into.
