Felt like I was in a small cafe in Mykonos. Got the lamb special within 5 minutes of ordering. The potatoes were amazing, salad was good but the lamb was dry. Disappointing because it was $17! Had a wonderful dining experience at George's and I had a chance to meet George (the owner)! The service was great, NIcky and Aaron did a great job of introducing me to their menu. Thanks to Nicky I had a chance to try the "rack of lamb" which was outstanding and paired well with stuffed salmon that I ordered. In addition, I had the opportunity to try authentic Greek beer "Hillas"...I was told that outside of George's it can only be purchased in Greece. It's been more than a year since I went here but I still remember our server's name, Francisco. The service was THAT good. In fact, this might have been the most pleasant dining experience that I've had in CA thanks to him. Great food recommendations and wine service (he let us sample as many as we wanted!). Our recent visit was one of our best. Excellent service not only from our server but from the bus staff as well. Our drinks were never empty. Had the lamb and beff gyro, both were cooked perfectly. I love coming here for the hummus. I love their hummus so much! It's a little citrusy and the consistency is perfectly creamy which is just how I like it. Another great dish is the mediterranean kale salad. Love the dressing and the feta cheese crumbles. I also just tried their greek chicken sandwich which was delicious as well! The kalamata olive spread is a nice touch and I usually hate olives. I think George's is a great place to go to if you want tasty food and big portions. It is not cheap, but it's worth it for the amount of food you get and the taste. It's hard to be disappointed here! read more

First time at this establishment. I had the big traditional salad with the lamb chops and it was delicious. My boyfriend had the fillet minion kabob and chicken kabob with the veggies and rice and was very happy with it. Now the down side after 4 refills of coke that my boyfriend had we finally had a chance to see a fly was chilling inside of his glass on top of the ice! Disgusting!!!! I did kind of see something before his second refill but dismissed it thinking it was a piece of his food. Oh how wrong I was. We got the soda discounted and offered a desert. Nice. I've been to two of George's locations and this one is the best. My best friend brought me here a few years ago and I fell in love with the food, the atmosphere, the mimosas, and Kyle. Kyle is the fabulous waiter who just happens to look like a Greek god. It really is a coincidence that I only show up on the days that he works. If the owners are reading this, Kyle deserves whatever perks you offer. He's great. He never leaves us stranded, he's very helpful with menu selection, his courtesy is off the chain and again.....he is absolutely beautiful. Anyway, I digress. George's Greek Cafe in Belmont Shore is a wonderful family experience. If you're going without the family, check out their happy hour and $5 mimosas. I have to admit that I never make it to the bar for happy hour because the wait service is outstanding. The drinks are never watered down. The food is great and has to be experienced for yourselves. I suggest the Spanikopita, Hallumi, Lamb Chops, or Greek Salad with Grilled Chicken. Everything is great and the portions are huge, so bring a friend or two, or the family. I have been coming here for years, I'm not much on writing reviews but I had to this time. This is my most favorite Greek restaurant. I have to say besides the outstanding food the service was outstanding and polite. Most of the time you get good food and mediocre service this is not the case. They treat you like family, even give you a hard time just like family does, kind of makes you feel right at home. The staff was friendly and inviting from the get-go. We went seated promptly even though we were a few minutes early for our reservation . After getting some drinks we started with the appetizer sampler platter which included calamari (very tender), feta stuffed falafel, stuffed grape leaves, spinach stuffed phylo, tzantziki, hummus, pita and a tomato based sauce. Everything was tasty and satisfying. For our entrees we got a gyro plate and a roasted lamb plate. The meat was tender and well seasoned. Rice was OK and the salad was wonderful. A good sized serving of steamed vegetables completed the meal. A large party nearby ordered a number of flaming cheeses which were served with great enthusiasm! We passed on wine and dessert, so no comments on those options. All in all a satisfying meal in a warm, welcoming establishment. read more

OPAH!!! I did not like Greek food until trying George's Greek Cafe. It is so tender and flavorful. We love the flaming pan of cheese with the dripping oil and olives. Went for dinner on a Monday night about 8pm. Was seated immediately and the service staff immediately greeted us and made sure we had drinks and apps within the first 5 minutes. The best lamb ever in my life. It was so tender and melted with all of its tasty flavor in mouth. Oh, lets start from the beginning. Three hungry girls including me were walking in 2nd ave looking for food. We stopped by Greek Cafe and checked out the menu and price. Not expensive! We got in and had a good spot to see both inside and outside. Such an alive area;) They were very helpful and nice with the menu; we ordered FIREY Saganaki appetizer (so much fun with fire), lamb chop and shrimp salad. Went to George's last night with 4 co-workers. I made a reservation and our table was ready and waiting when we arrived. Our server was fantastic and the food was excellent. A belly dancer arrived and I was shocked to see good ole George keeping up with her on the dance floor. I only had one problem with the place. The belly dancing music was VERY loud and we were right under a speaker. A woman came by and just said, "It's going to be on for another 30 minutes and I can't turn it down." I am scared I am going to become a George's Junkie! I went to George's for the first time this past Tuesday and from the time I walked in I was in love. I also liked that they had a huge Yelpers Welcome sign outside of the restaurant ( that lets me know they are confident about the quality the provide). I called Rip ( son of George) over from the bar ( I am really friendly and rowdy from time to time) to ask him to recommend something for me since I had never been there. He said I should get the Goat Slovaky ( I hope I spelled that right) and is was so dang good! At the end of our meal he gave me his card and asked that I report back on how I felt about my meal ( I got it to go). When I did he invited me to come back and I will be there for lunch today! I haven't had the best experience here, and although I don't like most of their food, I had to give them 3 stars because of their lamb chops. Being Greek, I can tell you if you want authentic Greek food, go somewhere else. If you want some Americanized dishes that resemble Greek food, come here. The constant shouting of 'Opa' and tableside preparation of the saganaki (cheese) appetizers will tip any Greek off that there will be a lack of authenticity. But then again, as a non-Greek, you may actually be looking for that experience. The ONLY thing I can recommend here that is even remotely authentic is the lamb chops, it is the only dish that keeps me coming back here. Substitute the bland side of rice for a side of Greek style fries and a Greek side salad and you have yourself a delicious meal. Don't bother trying anything else, not worth it and over-priced. Some of the dishes, like the pastitsio and mousaka tasted like they were even, dare-I-say, frozen. Don't forget to order some Hillas or Mythos Greek beer to wash down your meal. read more
