Great place to go when you're hungry. You can fill up two bowls at a time. They put out frozen sliced chicken, beef, lamb and pork. At the end of the row, they also have imitation crab meat and tofu. I like to fill one bowl with meat and the other one with noodles and vegetables. They have a bunch of sauces that you can choose from and recommended combinations of the sauces. After I hand the chef my bowls of raw food, I like to munch on an ice cream cone when I'm waiting in line. They have a soft serve ice cream machine conveniently located right next to the grill. There is also soup and rice available beside the ice cream machine as well. It's all you can eat, and the staff are quite attentive. I went on a weekend so there was barely any people. I remember going on a weekday lunch hour before and the place gets pretty busy. The price is out of date on their website. I believe it's just under 10 dollars for weekday lunch and just under 12 dollars for dinner, weekends and holidays. I'll be coming back again when I feel the need for AYCE. read more

Of all the Mongolian BBQ that I have been to here in the Bay Area, I like this one the most.

I followed the first sauce recipe and my BBQ turned out salty and very dry. Next time ignore the recipes. The egg noodles are chewy but I found them to be ok. This place is new but still gets packed at lunch so going for seconds is not realistic if you are on a time budget. This was an average place for Mongolian BBQ. Not great but not bad. read more

The first thing you notice is the friendliness of the staff...it's such a great and rare thing to see these days. The ingredients selection is also reasonable compared to the price. I usually just get one bowl and fill half with beef and the other half with veggies then add a little bit of the noodles. The sauces is what makes the dish come to life and I always try to experiment. The first few times I went I tried the recommendations that are provided above the sauces but it always came out tasting too bland. So now I make my own sauce combo which usually consists of 2-3 spoonfuls of garlic, chili oil, and most other sauces except for curry. The best thing that adds flavor is definitely the garlic (at least in my opinion). Definitely crowded around lunch time but it just goes to show how good the place really is. For cheap mongolian at $8.50 all-you-can-eat (though I've never seen people go back to the meat/veggie bar for seconds) - this place is 4 stars without a doubt. If you start comparing this place to the other mongolian options (such as the spot on el camino) - the flavor is really lacking. All this means, is you have to put 2x or 3x the sauce you'd put elsewhere. Again, it's not $11- so it's a terrific deal. Not to mention that this place charges $1 for a large soda - which is nearly impossible to find at a sit-down restaurant nowadays. Also, the ambiance is much more open (higher ceilings and brighter with natural outside light) than that hole-in-the-wall place on el camino. If eating in a bright place is important to you, that's another plus of this joint. I've been to this location 5 or 6 times, and usually stop by whenever there isn't a line. read more

I really enjoyed this place. Honestly, this is not one of the best restaurants I have had. But for the value of the money, I have no complaints at all. You can choose lamb (my favourite), beef, pork, shrimp etc. for the meat, and you can choose veggies and sources. I spent hours in this place watching Warrior's game. Sports bars are usually very crowded and difficult to get seats. But this place has a TV with cable, and usually has plenty seats. This place has a hole-in-the-wall vibe, albeit in a bigger than normal sized spot. Nothing fancy inside, it's all business with old looking tables and chairs. Like a typical Mongolian noodle bar (they also have rice btw) , there are several choices of meat to choose from, I usually go for beef and chicken but they also have pork and lamb. The vegetable toppings selection is pretty good as well and I always opt for chopped cabbage, onion, carrots, jalepeños, coriander, and sprouts. The bar gets a little messy with random veggies scattered around and sometimes you'll find something out of place (e.g. a customer might have dropped bits of carrot into the broccoli tray) but the workers will try their best to clean things out when the coast is clear. In the end it's the food that counts and I really love eating here because it's all-you-can-eat and delicious. I recommend grabbing two bowls before you start loading up. What I do is load up the meat in one and cover it with a mountain of noodles. My second bowl is reserved for the veges and I douse over it with the some of the sauces (gobi soy, garlic, chili oil are my choices). They also serve beer which is a plus. DIRTY, NASTY! This place is plain GROSS. Oh god don't go into the men's bathroom, more like a pee covered dungeon. I saw the "cook" wipe his nose, touch all over his face as he was cooking people's food! The food came from a dirty cold buffet table and the grill was dirty as well. At the base of the grill there was rotten food that had been dropped and everyone was kind of slipping around on the greasy floor. I've driven by it for two months and a few weeks ago my wife and I finally decided to give it a try. It's an all you can eat buffet style set up. You walk in and choose between four meats, a few vegetables, noodles and several sauces. They let you fill up your bowl as much as you want but they don't want you to take any of it home. You can pick something up if you like but that's different. After a few tries we've got it down where we're full but not bursting at the seems. The soup that they offer is like an egg flower type. It's not my favorite and I wish they'd offer different ones. The staff is very attentive and my glass is never empty. Lunch is $7.50 while dinner is $9.50. Not bad. I've heard lunchtime can be hectic there so plan ahead. I like that it's so close to the Plaza del Rey, Casa De Amigos and Adobe Wells. I've been coming here with some friends for a long time. They are very consistent in how they run things. It is an all you can eat buffet where you queue up to grab protein and then noodles and toppings. Then you put in a selection of sauces to make your own flavors. After that you wait your turn for them to cook it on a huge stove. In this case you can't really say that it's the cooks fault for under seasoning it because you seasoned it. There are four protein selections; chicken, beef, pork and lamb. Which were all frozen before. There are many vegetables to choose from and all seemed pretty fresh. Tried this for the first time today at lunch and I'll be back. They have raised the prices of lunch to $7.99 but it's still a damn good deal. Load up a bowl with meat, veggies and noddles, ladle on some sauce and they'll cook it up for you. They have a few sauce combination recipes on a small placard about the sauces and the staff will help you with suggestions as well. Food quality is good, and the place is obviously not designed with ambiance in mind. The staff were all friendly and helpful. Got there just after 1pm and three of us were able to breeze through very quickly. Probably not the best place to go for really large groups. The vanilla soft serve in a cone is a nice touch. So of all of all the Mongolian BBQ places I have reviewed, this is my favorite. The staff is friendly and if you enjoyed the staff at the old Mongolian BBQ place in Mt. View that got bought out, you will enjoy going here. The only thing missing here is ready-to-eat buffet that many of these places feature. If you can do without that, you have a strong assortment of vegetables and sauces. At dinner they have lamb as usual, but also serve shrimp just like at Su's. However the prices here are way better than at Su's (and I have yet to get sick here!) Frozen Yougurt as usual as well. Unless you are unlucky you won't have to wait too long in line to get food. Restrooms are clean and you won't feel super crowded like at Su's or the new Mt. View Mongolain place. To the posters that complained about the mixed sauces, it is easily avoidable if people just hold their bowls out toward the food instead of bringing the spoon all the way over the other sauces. If you are of courage or care that much about it, tell the fellow customer how to do it right. =P read more

As we were standing there the cook FLUNG the paddle he cooks with and grease and juices went flying and landed on my sons head, eyes and clothes. IT WAS DONE PURPOSELY. First time at Gobi Mongolian BBQ on Tasman. Very few choices, but ingredients looked good. I used the garlic recipe, pretty tasty. The people are nice and once you finish your plate, right away the waiter asks to take it away. The sauce recipes are for a single bowl so if you go up with two bowls, better double up. read more

You really can't beat $8.75 for their lunch price. Warning though, drinks are separate, so unless you want water, expect to shell out another $1.25 for (refillable) soda or $3 for beer. Now the fun part begins. I suggest you grab 2 bowls, one for meats (pork, chicken, beef) and veggies (carrots, zucchini, corn, broccoli florets, beansprouts, mushrooms, jalapenos, onions, cabbage, celery, green onion, etc) and one bowl for noodles and overflow of ingredients. Then mix your own sauces from their options (note their suggestions as well). Proceed to the cook on duty who cooks all your goodies together. The best part that it's all-you-can-eat so feel free to go back and try new options (however they will charge if you 'waste' plates of food.) Finish your meal with refreshing soft serve ice cream. (I swear my friends come just to eat $8 worth of ice cream.) I really liked how the cook was willing to cook just a stir fry of veggies for my second round. I was too full to eat a whole plate and didn't want to be charge for wasting noodles. I also noticed their dinner menu is about $2 more but offer lamb and shrimp as meat choices. He is just plain rude. This guy brushed me off when I asked for a side of rice, replying "There's too many people right now." WTF is that supposed to mean? Later the same guy rang me up and I tried to use a coupon for a free drink. He gave me all kinds of static about it. He kept repeating, "I don't know how to do it, just pay for it!" It's not my fault he hadn't been trained to accept a digital coupon. His own boss told me to redeem it after the meal, and I did as he instructed. The rude server made no attempt to accommodate me, nor did he make any attempt to call for a better trained server. He simply wanted me to pay for it and go away. As I come back I tell my wife to go the owner stops my wife and tells her they are closed. Might I remind you I also told the chef my wife was on her way but the owner would not let her get another plate. In reality we paid 23$ to be practically kicked out of the restaurant. For the price, this place is great. For under $10 you can have all you can eat Mongolian BBQ, eggs rolls, soup, rice, and ice cream. Their egg rolls are especially crispy and yummy. I ate 3.5 of them. :) The soup was salty and not very good, but the rest of the produce seemed fairly fresh. I like that they have bamboo shoots! Service was also surprisingly quite friendly and efficient.
