I got the chorizo omlette with toast and potatoes, I like rosemary and their potatoes are yummy if you like that kind of stuff. Got a side of bacon which was decent, not over cooked and not soggy and an orange juice (it's fresh!). My girlfriend noted how fresh the fruit is and that it's difficult to find a place where they serve good fresh fruit.. Nice little location, but could be hard to find the parking lot the first time here, it is in the back between the buildings. Reasonable, friendly and uniquely home style place. Definitely on my list of breakfast places in Ventura, hopefully we can sit outside next time when the weather is nicer but inside is nice and cozy. Outdoor seating during good weather and COVID was an ideal spot for brunch. The portions are minimal and the coffee too. Had to pretty much request e v e r y darn little. They give you a variety of teas to choose from and some what speedy service. The food was okay, a bit bland, but it's the same reason why there is salt and pepper on the table. This was my boyfriend and I's first time here and we were excited because it has good reviews and have seen lines for this place. But our time here was a disappointment. We got seated and we didn't even have menus for the first 5 minutes. Sure not a huge deal. We ordered our drinks and got them. It took a while for our food order to get taken, they came to take our order but then before they did they walked away for a couple minutes? That was confusing. They finally took it and it took almost an hour for our food to come out. It was a sandwich and a burger... and when it came it just looked sad. Also, while we were waiting for it we needed refills and no one came for at least 15 minutes that we ended up drinking the melted ice from the drink. We finally saw them and asked for a refill. Overall, there was little to no server checking up on us. And just the experience felt a little unwelcoming. I understand if a place is smashed and busy as hell but that was not the case here. At most three tables came in at the same time and there were no new ones for the majority of our time there. Won't be coming here again. read more

Went here this morning after stopping at Singing Sun (a fab new cafe) for coffee. We usually go up the street for breakfast but we wanted to try something new. So glad we did! I treated my parents to breakfast here this morning with my husband and sister. My parents are local and come here on the few occasions that they eat out because it is a mellow, quiet, good sized little cafe and the outdoor seating is plentiful. We ate on the patio which is covered, a great gift for my beach sunburn and kept us cool. We parked on the street in 2 hour free parking, but they have a small back parking lot with different signs for different spots. Read where you're allowed to park, but it's free and handicap friendly. Service was friendly and fast, we bought 5 sides of Banana Bread which comes warm, house made, and pretty tasty. I added a bit of butter and it was lovely as a brunch appetizer. The menu is vegetarian and vegan friendly and is pretty large for a cafe. I got the Veggie Egg Benedict with crispy hashbrowns and a pretty tasty orange juice. It's not a huge portion, but just enough to satisfy without wasting any. Coffee and water refills were fast and often. Just a nice little place to kick back munching and chatting. Will return for sure. read more

Living in Ventura since the early 70's and never going to the Golden Egg Cafe is such a shame. We went this morning and was so impressed with everything from first walking in to the cleanest and most welcoming vibe we can remember having. Even the condiments were all facing forward that put a smile on our faces. The breakfast was one of the best we've had in a long time. Both of our choices has flavor that explodes in your mouth. My wife had the chilaquiles and I had the chorizo scrambled. We had the best of both of these today! Jen took excellent care of us and even after being there for a while she still was excited and informative of the menu and our choices. Great place for a relaxing breakfast. All of the staff were terrific. Service top notch, refills for excellent coffee and they made sure we had cream if wanted. This is from my husband, they serve with real maple syrup. He had a waffle sans the powdered sugar. I ordered the french toast. We ordered a side of bacon to split, nice and crispy. Our food was served hot important to me so I certainly appreciated it. It's just nice to know it wasn't sitting under a heat lamp. Love this place and will be back. I think if anything, our waitress made this experience much better due to her bubbly personality. The food portions seemed small for what we paid. Food was average. Chicken fried steak was actually good. Not over salted like at other locations and hashbrowns were tasty. The omelette we ordered was overcooked and it took away from the overall taste. Our group also ordered chicken and waffles, the chicken again was overcooked and a little hard. I was not a fan of the oil used and I don't think I'll go back if in the area. On every foodie's Adventure there comes a trip when it's just destined to fail no matter what you do.... We came in and got seated on the covered patio. We ordered the biscuits and gravy and we each ordered eggs Benedict breaking my own rule to try the hollindaise before ordering lesson re learned. The biscuits and gravy was good but the gravy was a bit sour like it was a couple of days old but it wasn't bad. When the Eggs Bene came out it was a disaster before it got to the table. the hollindaise was over cooked from the get go. Cooking tip: when you make hollindaise you stir the yolks to warm them to the the butter temp and not cook them which causes the lumps of over cooked yolk you can see in my pictures not to mention there was no flavor. Next the eggs were poached into hard boiled eggs ...no buano. When the waitress came back we questioned the sauces consistency and she said oh that's normal,its like that sometimes... my wife said um no its not. Needless to say we sent them back and ordered bacon and eggs over easy with sour dough toast. The eggs came out over med and the toast was the end crust or heal and they put the butter on the outside of the heal WTF! What restaurant serves the heal of the bread.... The bacon was good. We wont be back here again its no wonder we got in right away. read more

Y'all about hole in the wall, it seems that this restaurant is operating what used to be an old residential. You have the choice of either sitting indoor or outdoor. Heads up, the chairs in the front/side patio are super flimsy- one small tap might spill your drinks. The food is pretty tasty- definitely ya get your bang for your buck. They have HOMEMADE banana bread and cinnamon rolls- a must try. The food portions are pretty adequate to the price. You can taste the freshness. Best thing about this place is they offer Mimosas at $3.95 a glass and they are worth every cent! Consider myself a returning customer! read more
