Short wait to be seated on a Sunday morning but it took twice as long for our order to be taken and even longer for the food to come out. The restaurant was fairly busy but not slammed and left the table wondering why there was such a delay. When the food finally arrived everyone was very satisfied and pretty much forgot about the wait. Service was friendly and more consistent once all the plates were dropped off. Food was solid and enjoyable but nothing really special, but to be fair imho, it's really hard to impress with breakfast foods. I enjoyed my chicken fried steak, the chili verde omelette looked good but the house potatoes were probably the best thing everyone had. Having waited as long as we did, might have been roughly the same at Pete's with their long lines. So Ventura has a plethora breakfast brunch places. Pretty much everywhere you go there is always a wait for breakfast on sat or sun. I knew passing by golden egg I wouldn't have to wait for a ridiculous amount of time just to get breakfast. Came here on a Sunday. I have one word to sum up my dining experience here and that is "HOMEMADE" The place feels very homely and great patio seating. I had the chilaquiles which taste like a Hispanic grandma made it. Like no frills home comfort food. My girlfriend had the Ventura omelette, nice fresh eggs and tomatoes and olives accompanied with hash browns. Coffee was hot good and always refilled constantly. The best kept breakfast/lunch secret in Midtown. Some of the tastiest Mexican breakfast dishes you'll find anywhere, and the baked goods are killer. Service is excellent (we hadn't been in for about a year, and the waitress still remembered what we ordered from our last visit!) Great place for breakfast. Although it's thundering and lightening outside, and we can't enjoy the patio seating, the quaintness and friendliness of this place makes up for it! After driving past Allison's, Pete's, & Cafe Nouveau, and seeing all of the long lines, we settled on here. So glad we did. Got street parking right out front and was promptly seated (I think it was fate). I ordered the Belgian waffle w/egg whites, bacon & a side of fruit. Boyfriend ordered the house made special, Chilaquiles w/chorizo. Boyfriend said the Chilaquiles was, literally, the BEST he's ever had (and coming from Santa Paula, he knows his Mexican food). He also really enjoyed the waffle, which we think had malt in the batter. Also, they have true Vermont maple syrup, which is epic. Eggs, bacon and fruit was all good & standard. So I normally don't give such a low rating on food places but holy moly this was the worst place I've ever been. First we get there and it takes about 15 mins for us to get our drinks. Then they forget to put a lemon in my water that I asked for. Then we order our food and I get the granola pancakes that were okay but my husband got the chilaquiles . Not only were his chips soggy we had a tie in our food. It was so bad . If you can see the picture. Then I had a sausage patty come out and It was all burnt and tasted like crap so we had them remake it to find out it wasn't cooked. The spinach mushroom quiche was delicious & fluffy accompanied by the home potatoes that had a nice crunch with a hint of rosemary. Their clam chowder is tasty with a good amount of clams & potatoes with just the right amount of soup that's not too thick. Definitely will order that again. A wonderful surprise is the fish sandwich with a nice thick slice of ahi tuna cooked to perfection & still juicy (not dry). This charming cafe is right next to the famous Pete's, but my advice is to skip the long wait and visit this cafe! My husband and I enjoyed the rich, smooth coffee along with the homemade huge, fluffy biscuit and corned beef hash (they also make banana bread; next trip!). The service was prompt and pleasant, we noted that there seemed to be "regulars" coming in after we were seated, which is always a great sign. They were all greeted warmly by the host staff. At home with Covid and oh my gosh this was the best and most comforting meal I have had in a long time. Had it delivered on DoorDash. I got the chorizo skillet with over easy eggs and flour tortillas. The chorizo is extremely high quality. I seriously wonder where they get it from, because it tastes like the freshly mixed chorizo that a well known little market in Santa Paula used to make in the old days. It's a nice location, but we won't be back. We've been twice because I believe in second chances. The first time was on Sunday and the second time on Saturday (and I believe the owners were there on Saturday. The owners are very nice, but the waitress was not. Service was especially bad when the owners were not there. For example, we were served food with no silverware at all (had to steal off another table), and no coffee refills at all at 1 pm when there were only 2 other groups around. I docked a star for this. The food was good, the coffee and tea was average. We enjoyed the omlette and Santa fe scrambles. They put a lot of stuff inside their omlettes so it's full of bacon, avacodo or whatever which is just how I like it. However, the sides were...something else. They do give you a lot (potatos and toast with any egg dish). The banana bread arrived with large portions of uncooked dough raw dough. It simply wasn't cooked (or even checked!) which is unacceptable to me. It was really telling that the kitchen served raw dough and partially cooked bread to customers. I docked a star for this because raw dough is unedible due to salmonella risks from the eggs. The view on the outside deck is nice and it's by tons of consignment and thrift stores. However, the exterior of the building is a bit run down with peeling paint on the deck. Also: parking is available in the back. Street parking is extremely limited so this is a nice perk. read more

This place not only has charm it has great eats! I had one of the 3 daily quiches, turkey sausage, mushrooms and spinach. It was a big as a slice of deep dish pie! So fluffy fresh and flavorful. Gotta start with this - I was hella jealous of my friend's veggie benedict sitting across from me during our brunch. I sure hope I'm in the area again someday to order it myself! I got a typical diner breakfast plate - blueberry pancakes with a side of sausage patty and two eggs over easy. Super cute little place in an early-20th-century home painted a sunny yellow with a little parking lot in the back. We came for a weekday breakfast and there was plenty of room to sit and to park. Boy were we happy when we found this place. My husband and I were in Ventura for the weekend and found this place on Yelp. We walked in and were greeted immediately by friendly faces. We were seated immediately and brought our mimosas. The place is really cute. It kind of resembles an old house with very cute decor. We ate inside but there was seating on the front 'porch' looking area and on the side as well. They had great, different specials. My husband got the Santa Fe scramble and I got the artichoke benedict which is served on onion rings. Very different, but very good. My husband loved his food as well. The staff was very friendly and the restaurant is in a cute former home. It's small and quaint, but also offers outdoor seating. We had the veggie Benedict which was enough to share between two so that we didn't have leftovers. To get our meat fixed we added a side of bacon.
