The area where this little coffee shop is located is surrounded by other coffee shops, but this one just has a little more to offer. It's right in the middle of Hollywood, so you can enjoy people watching, while you sip your coffee or espresso. The baristas are friendly and make their lattes the right way, so the foam stays on the top. I was pleasantly surprised by this little place. The food that both my daughter and I ordered was excellent. The coffee of the day was very flavorful. It was quite crowded but the service was efficient. The customers were mainly millenials and it was too loud to do any kind of computer work. I didn't like the way they called out your name and what you ordered when the food was ready. Came here to take a break from driving around LA before watching a a show at UCB on Sunset. We lucked out and were able to get street parking. However, I can see parking being difficult in the area as with most of LA. Coffee was really good here. I had the Mexican mocha and it wasn't too bitter or sweet. It was very smooth. My fiancé had one of the cold pressed juices (the berry flavored) and it was amazing and refreshing. Unfortunately, the cold pressed juice was a lot more expensive than the coffee (between $6-7 if I remembered correctly), but I think I've seen other juice companies charge that much, so I guess there is a demand. They offer food at Groundwork as well, but we didn't get a chance to try any since we had just eaten. The ambiance is typical hipster coffee shop with exposed brick and this one has a communal long wooden table to sit at as well as bar like seating along the wall. Overall, this seems like a decent place to get some work done and and for the quality of coffee the prices are reasonable. Only cons would be the parking and juice prices, but I'm sure that won't keep us from coming back again. read more

We lived nearby and got our coffees there every morning. Coffee is truly amazing! Also they make their own cashew milk and it's delicious. Coffee gets 5 stars. Banana bread is great too and gets in the same category as coffee. Now can't say the same about avocado toast. Reading all these good reviews makes us wonder if ours was made by a trainee. Horrible cold eggs swimming in pools of sweet chili sauce and nothing in the plate tasted fresh but rather as if it was sitting in a fridge for a while. Avocado toast makes this review a 3 star instead of 5. It was hands down our worst breakfast experience in LA. read more

I love food and coffee and trying new places. The healthier the better. Though the staff was awesome and I enjoyed the ambiance, I wouldn't go back. Good people can only carry a business so far. Maybe it was an off day. The coffee was okay. I ordered poached eggs which come atop avocado (the way I make them at home) and a side salad. It took 20 minutes. Good thing I was really into what I was reading and not ravenous. The dressing for the salad was delicious but scarce. I understand they were going for a drizzle, but this was sad. One of my poached eggs was cooked through with a firm crumbling yolk and cold and the other was undercooked with clear and milky white and warm. Overall I would say there is an execution problem. It felt like they were cutting corners in purchasing (coffee) and food prep. read more

I love this place. It's in an awesome location and the coffee is much better than Starbucks. I came here about a year ago and the customer service was awful and employees seemed lazy. I then returned a few months ago and it was a whole new place. They must have switched management. I hate places that make you serve your own coffee... I stopped by this place to get some coffee today . I wanted to grab a macchiato, but girl at the cash desk started asking me if I want it "Starbucks style". Don't know what that means but I asked if they have something similar to flat white , she suggested me to take a latte as it supposed to be something similar. standing in line for my drink I saw another guy , who just picked up his drink, tasted it and looked at his cup like somethings wrong. I asked how is it - he said really bad, and that he had same drink here before and it tasted much better. Maybe they changed something, but my drink was the biggest disappointment of the day . I didn't expect that coffee can taste that bad . Seriously waste of time and waste of money . I have no desire to come back to the place . 2 stars only . cause interior is nice . Best coffee in Los Angeles, don't go to Starbucks if you are ever near a groundwork location

Groundworks is a great place to take a Sunday and make it great. 9 out of 10 times, you'll find me there laptopping with my extra-large hot chocolate taking full advantage of the free wi-fi. It's one of my favorite spots in the city to people watch - filmmakers debating the latest and greatest they saw at the Arc Light, screenwriters intensely typing away, general Hollywood-ers coming in from the Farmers Market across the street for a sip and a place it sit. The staff is so friendly and the crowd is the right mix of ultra-hip from Amoeba to the down-to-earth girl/guy nextdoor. It's my perfect idea of a lazy afternoon. read more

My husband and I had breakfast here this morning as this place was close to our Airbnb room and had good reviews. The place is cute and has this funky feel that people here in LA seek. Awesome atmosphere! This place serves the BEST iced chai latte I have ever tasted.

The guys executed my iced soy latte with whipped cream squashed down under a flat lid (I hate dome lids) flawlessly & without giving me a weird look. Always makes me happy when baristas don't mind taking picky-ass orders. :) I only wish they offered more food. But I plan to borrow their internet sometime in the near future b/c it seems like a nice atmosphere to do so. read more

i kinda feel like i need to try a cappuccino before i write this review, but i do enjoy groundwork. the coffee itself is good, but i'm a little disappointed that they keep it in pump (air) pots. i feel that most of the time i've gotten a cup, its just not hot enough. now i'm not one who thinks coffee should be kept on a burner, cause it shouldn't, but i've never been a fan of how quickly coffee cools down in those pots. that said, i still appreciate what they're doing and am sure to return. and of course they have location going for them, especially on sundays, being so close to the hollywood farmers market, its a great stop before you head in to get your fruits and veggies! read more

Girls that work here are super cutesy & very friendly. I tried the most delicious made iced chai latte the flavor is still in my mouth mmm. Skip the Vietnamese iced coffee was funky not in a good way & stick to pho places to get that from now on. The iced soy latte was also delicious perfect everytime mmm! 4 stars for the AMAZING lattes (i'm kinda picky when it comes to lattes) i always get a small vanilla latte with whole milk and two shots, and they nail it. Minus one star for shotty service. If you order food, you kind of have to stay close and make sure someone else doesn't accidentally take it because they don't say a name or a number and they don't check or try to remember if the person grabbing the food is the person that ordered it. Twice when I wasn't looking I came over to check on my food and they said "woops, i think that other girl took the food." They were nice enough about it though. read more

I'm a fan mainly of Groundwork's beans. I love their coffee, even more so because it's well priced, organic, fairly traded, and local. Ask for the bean card when you go: if you buy nine pounds, the tenth is free. As for hanging out at Groundwork, I try to avoid it because the music tends to be so loud that I can't get any work done. The atmosphere is nice, though, and the staff is great. read more

Work kept me in the area so I did try their lunch soup and 1/2 sandwich deal. Good food, generous portions. I returned the next day for breakfast again, and then the following day, but was foiled by a shooting for some TV show. Barista acted extremely irritated towards fellow customer who hadn't received his Mocha; I got a single instead of a double espresso, and the new double espresso was slammed on the bar, making some of the coffee literally fly out of the cup.
