After the recent remodel the place seems bigger and brighter. Their prices and portions stayed the same, which is appreciated.

We went here for the first time and overall this place is a great place. We came here while taking the sun in and walking with our dog. We got hungry and we stopped by a few places and this place caught our eye. We decided to eat here and the staff were amazing and really friendly. Sarah (hoping that's how you spell it) was our overall server and she was just so amazing and friendly and seemed like she care side her customers fully and completely. The food we were in between, we asked her what she recommended overall and two of the dishes we were deciding between were two of the ones she recommended. The ahi wrap and the mango mahi mahi plate is what we got and were delicious! We had our dog and got a doggie patty which our dog enjoyed so much. Me and my best friend only came for drinks as we ate prior to coming in and I am so happy we stumbled upon Guava Beach! Our bartender was Sara and she was on it! Any drink we inquired about she knew information on it and was able to tell us exactly what to expect. Sara was very informative to what was in the drinks and what we would prefer, which made ordering easier. The bathrooms were very clean and accommodating to our needs. We had a great waiter that took care of all requests and was super nice without being always there. The bartender Mike makes delicious drinks (Mango Tango Margarita / Piña Colada) and the coconut shrimp were great! Not a bad spot while in Mission Beach. We had the entire family order food and it was sporadic on the deliverable. One had a huge portion of breaded Mahi as a sandwich and the wife got Mahi jerky with the dinner portion. The Diablo burger was good, but not amazing. This was our first time here, and we just stopped by for a drink and an appetizer on a Sunday Funday. We tried the Tri-Tip Carne Asada Nachos and they were fabulous. The in house made chips were delicious and very light, but strong enough to scoop up meat, black refried beans, cheese and all the other fixings. This place was less than 2 blocks from our beach house and became our go-to spot for their tasty food, good drinks and fun vibe. The 1st time I came with just the lady friend for lunch one afternoon and got a couple tacos and a few margaritas. The margaritas are huge and only 8.00 for a what they call a "small". The tacos can be ordered a la carte or as a plate with rice and beans. The rice and beans actually have flavor here unlike 99 percent of Tex-Mex places that just use this as plate filler. The carne asada tacos had some actual heat which it should and the avado pork had an almost crab boil flavor to it. All of the tacos came with onions, cilantro and cojita cheese. I came back with my kids and got the same thing while my daughters had bbq wings which were baked then flash fried to perfection. I stuck with tacos and margaritas on all 3 of my visits because it's tacos and margaritas! My husband is a loyal Vikings fan so when his birthday rolled around we came here to celebrate him. It was a Saturday evening around 5 that we went and there was a good amount of people there but it wasn't packed. The restaurant says it is family friendly until 10 PM so I felt comfortable that we were bringing our baby with us but once I got there, I felt like it wasn't family friendly at all. Having a kids menu isn't what makes you family friendly. Most of the tables were all high tops which doesn't work well for kids. There were a couple of normal sized tables and we snagged one of those. The baby couldn't sit up yet for me to put him in a high chair (not sure they would even have one) so we had to bring the stroller. Unfortunately, it is pretty packed in there and there wasn't much room for the stroller so it was in the way a bit of people walking by. This was pretty disappointing and I highly suggest finding somewhere else to eat if your kids are with you. Also, for being the Vikings bar, I thought I would see a bit of decorations with the Vikings. I know it means they are just the bar that features showing the games but I would have never even known they feature the games. I think I saw 4 small things that let me know the Vikings are a game shown there. For food we got mozzarella sticks, I got a burger, and Adam got wings. All of our food was very good. We were impressed with what came out of the kitchen and honestly, the great food saved this review from going lower since they are not kid friendly in my book. Overall, this is a bar with food, not a restaurant to go to with young kids but the food is delicious. I am sure that if it were just Adam and me, then I would have probably given 4 stars. read more

I was walking down the street going towards Belmont Park. I visit San Diego often and have a love for Mission Beach and Pacific Beach, but everyone loves to recommend the popular places that may not be so good. I was so happy to stumble upon this place. It was pretty empty, so I was unsure, but I just really wanted a midday margarita before continuing with my day and activities. Y'all this margarita was so good!! I believe the one I decided on was the Dragons Margarita, which was so yummy. It was tart but sweet, and just salty enough. The waitress was super sweet as well and helped me decide on a drink for my mom, who is a little bit picky with her drinks, and my mom loved what she received (a citrus cosmopolitan). The place was a cute sports bar and it was pretty dark inside, but the windows and doors were open to let tons of light in, so it didn't matter. It took a while but eventually a couple of waitstaff who were not the original waitstaff brought the food, but not the second order of drinks we got. Totally fine. Until we eat all the food. I had a great time at Guava Beach in Mission Beach, San Diego. I did not plan to go there, but was walking by the beach and saw a sign that said that Guava Beach has been voted as the best margaritas. I thought to myself, "I could go for a delicious margarita." And their margaritas were delicious. The original is smooth with that sweet and tangy blend from their own Guava Beach margarita blend. Then I tried their spicy version with muddled serrano peppers and a couple thinly sliced serrano peppers floating in the glass. It wasn't too spicy in my honest opinion. Just a little bit of heat. The only food I had was their tater tots. They were cooked just right with a little bit of crispness to them. As for their service, it was great. Claire was my server and she was very friendly and helpful. She did a wonderful job of checking in on me from time to time. She also helped to get a specific sports game on for me. Claire made my experience at Guava Beach an excellent one. My only knock on Guava Beach is their lack of independent local craft beer. They had Alpine's Duet IPA & Alesmith's .394 pale ale, but not much else from what I could tell. We are in arguably the craft beer capital of the United States. read more

I did really enjoy it but I think the meat and cheese could've been more evenly distributed. We are pretty freakin' obsessed with Guava Beach for happy hour! They have a great guava margarita that is only $5 during HH! The location is awesome, just a short walk to the beach and we always find parking right on the street nearby. The staff is always helpful and quick on their feet. Sooooo, we started on a very good foot with our waiter Heidi, but half way thru the service went down hill. The Reason why I'm giving it 3/5 is that the food was great and the manager tried to compensate for the servers lack of service. Great spot to watch University of Washington athletics. I moved to SD from Seattle on the 1st of Jan, just in time to watch the Rose Bowl game between UW & Ohio State.
