So...I remembered for a time in 2023, I went to a Pearlridge Guava Smoked (before it closed down and eventually is now Lassoon) and had their smoked fried rice bowl with an egg on top and man, it was great. However, fast-forward to now, and here we are again...this time at the Kapahulu Guava Smoked. And that time, I went with something completely different. I ordered their mixed plate, which, with tax, rounded out to just over $20, but it was kinda worth the price. The smoked pork was incredibly addictive, and the duck wasn't too bad. If there was a choice I maybe could have done a bit differently, maybe I could have asked it they could do all tossed salad, but...I guess I wanted to at least try and make the most out of this experience. Overall, it's a nice aerial from the bottom with a good look with a great view from atop. I highly would recommend this place for sure if you're wanting a plate lunch that's kinda "out there". A little research on my phone tells me they cold smoke their meats with strawberry guava wood. Which isn't readily available where I live. Let's go try it! Came with a salad and you have your choice of dressing. I took my first bite and I have to say it had a different taste than any of the food I've smoked or purchased smoked. Taste buds were in a bit of confusion lol. Second and third bites it all kicked in. Mild smokiness with actually a bit of sweetness in the smoke flavor. We did wish they offered more than just two scoops of brown rice, but there is an alternative to pay an additional fee for another option. Great service, amazing food, definitely has the right vibe for a BBQ spot. I called in asking about their menu with a bunch of questions, the manager was very helpful as she walked me through how much to order for our large group. She went above and beyond to make sure we even carried it out correctly without dropping our huge party platters. We ordered the party trays with salmon belly, butterfish, galbi x2, chicken and pork. Literally every single person in our party loved it. Not a single bad item. 2 trays was more than enough to feed 10 adults and 3 kids with leftovers for a day or two. Fire! Have been waiting over a year to try this place. Last year when we visited it was unfortunately closed. Loved the smokiness of both pork and chicken sandwiches. It came with a side of mac salad and two scoops of white rice.. total came to around $20. Price point - not too bad considering the huge serving and for Hawaii standards Flavor - both meat were delicious but they could be more flavorful, in my opinion. The "spicy" pork could use more kick as well. The mac salad was actually more delicious than most places. Space - lots of seats and they have an outdoor, balcony area as well where you can see a nice view of the road For a future visit, I wish I upgraded to guava fried rice. I didn't know it only comes with white rice by default, though that rice was actually really good as well. Cozy upstairs spot, spacious dining area with narrow balcony bar seating around 10 overlooking kapahulu st and the park/ view of downtown honolulu. Order at the counter, they brought our plates out for us. I had the smoked pork, my local friend ordered butterfish collars. The texture of the duck was firm and not as oily as regular duck and the pork in the fried rice was fragrant and so well seasoned that I ordered another order before i left.
