Wonderful, Mother's Day weekend meal here! A warm, rustic vibe, with tables, booths, a widescreen TV in the bar, and enclosed front patio. As a first time diner, I appreciated the warm greeting from our Maître d'. Our server, Anna, was equally warm. Fritto Misto - Calamari, shrimp, marinara - for the starter was cooked in a delicate batter and was one of our better fried calamari experiences. Next, we had the H.O.M. Salad - their version of an Italian Chop Salad. I subbed romaine for the spring salad mix and it was delicious. I had the Funghi pizza - mushrooms, prosciutto, truffle oil - which was, by far, some of the best pizza in the SFV -- thin, foldable and packed with flavor! My husband had the chicken farm which he liked. Drinks were good. H.O.M. Cake for dessert was a nice way to end the evening. A bit dry for my taste but my husband enjoyed it! So disppointing. ah, where do I start? The Space: Rather nice outdoor seating with covered or open patio with heaters that make a difference, decent table, yet since it is a street facing, you are basically watching the sidewalk, which is fine...Just that no one thought to move the trashcan sitting right across our table. Just not the best thing to think of when eating, different smells and such. Not hard to move it out the way. Maybe work it out with other neigbors, but, it needs to move. Inside looks lovely. I think we are on year 6, and man...while this place was rather the buzz years back, I have to update the food... Dishes: Sorry to say, but 5 out of the 6 dishes just flat out failed. We had the saltiest Gnochi, the sweetest ravioli with a sweet cream sauce AND reduced balsamic...that sauce is bad....ruined some decent raviolis. The Ceasar salad...How do you mess that up? Well, bad dressing and less attention to the details in ingredients, thats how, and they did indeed mess that up. Fusilli was OK. Not a lot to this to mess up and it survived. The Fritto Misto, for an Italian place was battered like the beer pub down the street, but the 2 pieces of chunky shrimp did taste good and 1 decent piece of calamari. The amount of oily breading on these is way grossly too much. What happen to "dust it on"?, Italian, Greek, and any European ocean side will hardly cake on any batter. There are 3-4 nice pieces and the rest are rather small weak calamari. Not too bad, but the batter is bad. Sauce was pretty much pizza sauce, not bad, but nothing to remember. Didnt have much of flavor, was Ok with the lemon. Good selection of drinks, which is a plus, Nice glasses of wine went well. SERVICE: (Or lack there of!) We got water, and drinks, and then got our starters in, but after the starters came, she was gone and never to return....As it felt. The starters were done, the glasses were empty, and tic toc...no order. Once a service brings starters, you want to be back pretty quick to check on the table, see if they need anything, and if they can place the main orders. Our table never got checked on regardless of the water pouring assistants who were flagged down. We finished and waited. Finally she did show up, we put orders in, and as expected we waited. Honestly, this night broke the back. Have no reason to return. I say this as $250 for a casual dinner is not something you can do just OK or less in. Only 1 dish had any meat in it, and that too was less than half eaten. In fact, all the dishes except the Fusilli were left with more than half their food. Not one peep of interest of why from the waiters. Just rushed cleared and its NEXT! read more

Our Airbnb owner recommended this place and so we checked it out. Great atmosphere and it's a little loud when the place is packed and it was packed when we ate here for the first time. They have simple menu selection and we loved what we ordered for starter: toast with like a caprese ingredients for topping with balsamic vinaigrette, we also ordered the egg plant with cheese starter and beet salad...all were great choices and were all delicious. I then ordered the salmon belly with pasta and tomatoes & olives...it was tasty. My wife ordered the lasagna and it was okay...I would prefer the Laguna to come in like a nice-slice of cake serving and not all mushed up. I would like to come back to try other items...definitely loved the starters and our entrees, we were not very impressed. We ordered tiramisu but u fortunately was out and dinner service had just started...bummed out that we didn't get to try their tiramisu on the menu and so we tried their cheese cake and cannoli...both were good. Just fantastic food and vibe. Little spot off Ventura with a nice bar. Staff was excellent and made sure I was taken care of. I went with the penne Genovese and tha panne with ricotta basil dip I think. The bread was perfectly fluffy and well complemented with the dip. The Genovese was delightful, I was hoping to have some to bring home but i deleted the whole plate. The pasta was good (I've had better vodka pastas) and the pizzas were good but a little soggy and the crust was droopy. I would have liked my pizza a little more crispy especially it being a thin crust pizza. Overall it was a good place and I would definitely come back. This is an amazing Italian Eatery. We went for my birthday and we were not disappointed. From the moment we sat down until we left, everything was spot on and delicious. This lovely restaurant probably was the closest in terms of food when I was in Naples, Italy. Our new benchmark? Absolutely an easy YES!!! Normally, I write in a very descriptive way but this time I am speechless! It's more than a party in my mouth but if it's something heavenly then what more else can I say? I'm not going to lie, I drive past H.O.M Italian Eatery every day and never stopped to check it out. I'm glad I finally did. From the moment I walked in, the place had a really nice, inviting energy. The owner personally sat me down, took my order, and shared the story behind the restaurant and his background growing up in the industry. That level of hospitality stood out right away. Customer service was easily 10/10. The food was solid. The baby gnocchi was really good, and the bread with butter and honey, chef's kiss. Definitely a spot worth checking out. I stopped by for Dinner with an old friend and had an overall good experience. This restaurant is in a nice location and is aesthetically pleasing. I had a reservation and was seated instantly which is always a plus. Our server was also attentive and pleasant. Instantly, the first thing you'll notice are the fresh flavors. My friend & I ordered a flatbread as an appetizer and it was delicious. It was not on the menu, our server mentioned it was a special item. All I remember is it had eggplant in it which I don't normally go for but this one was amazing. The eggplant and cheese were perfectly seasoned and the bread was light in the middle with a crunchy exterior. If I am not mistaken, the dough also tasted like it could have been sourdough, but I did not confirm those details (sorry). The tomato sauce tasted extremely fresh, it was very light and tomato forward. My main was the Tagliatelle Ragu and my friend ordered the Linguine Pesto. The sausage in the Ragu was very tasty, the pasta was cooked al dente and the dish was good, but I wasn't crazy about it. It was too tomato forward imo. My friend enjoyed her dish and said the pistachio's added a very interesting texture and taste to her dish. Overall, it was a good experience. We've been to this restaurant twice before and had wonderful experiences, which makes it all the more disappointing that tonight's visit fell short. From the start, the service felt off. It took about 14 minutes after being seated before our server greeted us and took our drink and food orders. As a former server myself, I pay attention to timing, so I actually set a timer. From the moment we ordered, it was 32 minutes before our food arrived -- and this was for a party of just two. And we were not informed when we ordered our food that food was backed up or that one of our orders would take at least 30 minutes for whatever reason. At the 23-minute mark, our server came by to say it would be "five more minutes," but it turned out to be nine more. In the meantime, our waters were never refilled and we weren't asked if we'd like more wine. The busser did greet us right away with water (which I appreciated), and another busser came by later to check if our server had stopped in, which says a lot. Our server eventually sent out some bread since the wait was so long, but basic service like drink refills was still overlooked. When our food finally arrived -- veal shank for my husband and spaghetti with meatballs for me -- it was 7:45 p.m. my husband liked his meal and as for me, the meatballs were not as warm as they were previously when I ordered this dish. The server didn't check back on us until around 8:05. At that point, dessert should have been a highlight (I love their cannoli and tiramisu), but I honestly couldn't bring myself to risk another 20-30 minutes waiting. Overall, the food was fine, but the service was mediocre and disappointing. If a server is too busy, guests shouldn't be sat in their section. When you're paying for a nice dinner, at a highly rated restaurant and not cheap, good service is just as important as good food, and tonight it simply wasn't there. I truly hope this was just an off night, because we've had excellent meals here before. But given tonight's experience, I left disappointed and hesitant to come back anytime soon. read more

After a long day of walking around in downtown Hollywood and City Walk in 94° heat, we were ready to get off our feet and cool down with some good food. So I get out my phone and look to Yelpers for help in finding a good Italian restaurant near my hotel. Ya'll came through and directed me to HOM. The street was in a business district. Pulling up we see a modest one story building painted white with seating outside along the sidewalk with pretty white lights overhead. The tables were full of happy faces eating and talking-a good sign. Entering the restaurant we approach the host and I look around. It's so welcoming and beautiful. Pretty booths with high backs filled with people talking, low lighting, beautiful brick wall with their logo and expansive seating at the L shaped bar. The host asks if we are walk ins or have a reservation and we say walk ins. He kindly asked if we wouldn't mind sitting at the bar because he didn't have any seats available. We happily agreed-we were hungry and happy to be accommodated. The seats were comfortable and we were immediately offered water and a menu. Looking at the menu I noticed lots of yummy items but it wasn't your typical menu. Each category was it's own category. I was looking at the lasagna and asked if it came with anything like a salad or breadsticks. Kevin, our bartender/Host explained to us that normally people start with some bread or salad then order the entree, they take their tine I said so the lasagna is a square of lasagna and that's it? He said yes. He paused briefly and said he's going bring us some fresh bread and olive oil with ricotta and basil. We ordered some drinks-I got the whisky sour, hubby got a slow gin fizz and our daughter got some Blush. Drinks were made very well and the bread was hot and delicious. Kevin was so fun to talk to, he clearly loves his job. He explained that it's a family run business that takes their food seriously. They use only fresh ingredients and cook everything from scratch. I got the lasagne, hubby got the chicken Parmesan and our daughter ordered the gnocchi. We all loved the food. It was fresh, nothing was over salted. I looked around the restaurant and people were happy and eating and conversing. I was so full so I didn't order any dessert but I bet the Tiramisu was to die for. Next time we come to visit our kiddo I'm going to get some. If you like fresh food made with love and great service then go to HOM. You won't be disappointed. read more

Plenty of inside and limited outdoor seating. They take reservations which makes it easy to dine without long waits. Service 3.5: Family-owned restaurant with friendly and helpful staff. Table service however can be a little slow and inconsistent and tapers off towards the end of the meal. Food 3: The offerings sound good and look good, but taste is about average and not memorable. Drinks 3: Full bar, beer, wine and soft drinks. The cocktails look nice and feature creative ingredients but taste average. The cocktails are also on the smaller side for the price. The last word 3.5: The friendly and personable owners/family and the venue raise the overall score quite a bit. Hope they can improve their table service and their food/drink offerings a bit.
